When you first see the pop up redirecting you from what you're trying to do, you think this is going to get annoying and might lose your original page, but it doesn't! You click, go through the verification steps (not too many) then once you're done you land back on your original page to execute on your first purpose: finishing your claim! It's fast and easy, go ahead and verify yourself :)

I contacted ID.me on behalf of my son regarding a ID check requested on his 2021 return. He is an OTR truck driver, so very difficult for him to handle these matters. I have POA on his behalf, but I could not do some of the ID.me requirements without his input. I did what I could then called the 800 number. A call back was offered which I took. In about 30 minutes I received the call back. Agent Diaz not only helped us get my son's identity verified, but checked on the status of the return in question, gave us a status of the OIC that's in process and took the steps necessary for future contact to come to me without involving my son. Very profitable phone call. I was wary of dealing directly with the IRS, but this was very satisfying!
