I needed to get my tax documents in order to fill out the expat statement form 8854 and to access the irs site was impossible for me from the united kingdom until my kid in the States hooked me up with id.me you are gonna need actual paper copies of one utility bill that is within the last 90 days... also an up to date passport and your social security card. If you have those 3 your good to go.

I needed to log on to my IRS account and found I had to use the ID.me product to gain access to my account. Typical information was required, but the driver's license # and pictures of both the front & back of the driver's license, then my own selfie shot were required. The program asked for access through a URL for all pictures. Very different security feature. Felt a bit invasive having to allow the ID.me program access to my phone camera to comply with the program requirements.
