Rented a car with Hot Rate, Airline canceled and changed flight which gave us the option to cancel or accept the new change, due to business plans the new times did not work so we canceled the flights. The policy to refund or credit if airlines cancel are false. In todays climate I would not suggest ANY HOT RATE purchases and looking at other reviews I would stay away completely from Hot Wire.

They are professional con artists they will
Make you pay for 5 star hotels and will then book you into a 3 start hotel and won't give you back your money. Rude customer service beware of their tricks

Had a credit with an expiry date on it from a canceled trip due to covid. Decided to book a romantic stay at Emerald Lake Lodge in British Columbia. The day before our stay, received a reminder email of our booking and a reminded of everything we needed to check in. Drove 6 hours (thankfully it wasnt a dar away trip like across the country) to the lodge to find out they been closed for over a week due to a power outage. Since I booked through hotwire, they were notified and were suppose to notify me about the outage and refund me my money. Never heard a word from hotwire. Thankfully the CRMR owns multiple properties and offered us a refund on their end or a booking at another property in Banff or Lake Louise. CRMR took great care of us but hotwire failed to notify us and really screwed plans up, wasting time and money for us. Will never use them again for booking

I really don't post reviews unless the experience is stellar or exceptionally poor. The Hotwire customer service is outright terrible. I made a trip a month back and used their platform to book a trip. I don't know what had happened and apparently they had booked me at two different hotels. They had not even sent a booking confirmation for the other hotel that I had supposedly booked for. After talking to more than one representative they said they could not reimburse the same day booking as it had been marked as a no show. I think if they had sent a confirmation receipt of the booking it would have been very helpful. So frustrated with their customer service and makes me not want to use their services again.

After 4 hours chatting, because no one would answer the phone, I finally was promised a refund. I was passed from representative to representative, having to re-explain my situation each time. Even after speaking Tina manager, I still could not get resolution. Hotwire is worse than a medical insurance company. They say they will work with flight cancellations, but do not trust them. I will never use them again. Not worth the discount.

Crooks!

Hotwire stole money from me by overcharging on a hotel booking, then would only offer a Hotwire credit instead of returning my funds. They also add taxes and fees to the charges, but after booking they state that there are further taxes to be paid at hotel!
Dishonest, unscrupulous, placing the customer as a sucker. AVOID Hotwire!

I booked a room for 3 ADULTS@ $89/night and was assigned a KING SIZE BED, even though I chose "Hotel Chooses Bed Type". The Hotwire site did NOT give me an option to choose the bed type, unless I SPECIFICALLY selected a King, which I did NOT since there will be THREE of us in the room. Also, the price to actually select a King bed was $1 more per night, at $90. I was billed $267 ($89 x 3), NOT $270 ($90 x 3), so the error was obviously in their system. When I called the customer support line, I was continually told that it was my mistake, not theirs - "Our system shows you selected a King bed". I don't understand why it's so difficult to do simple math. Obviously if I had actually selected a King room, which I did not, I would have been charged $270 as the base charge for a King room before taxes, etc., not $267 for the "Hotel Chooses Bed Type" room (see attached screen shots). After multiple calls and conversations, including escalating the call to a "supervisor" (which basically just regurgitated the same thing I had been told previously), they were unable to assist me with changing the room type with the hotel. The best they could do was "ask the hotel to make a note on my room that I wanted to request a rollaway bed", which I specially stated was NOT an option since I am familiar with the room sizes at the Golden Nugget. Hotwire offered to refund my purchase, BUT would also charge me a $40 CANCELLATION FEE to do this (with the remainder being a Hotwire credit, not actually refunded to me), which would also mean that I would have to rebook and most likely get the same result. I am extremely disappointed that this is the "best" they could do to help me. This will be the LAST time I ever use Hotwire and will definitely be sure to share my experience with friends & family as well when they are considering booking a trip. Although they may have great pricing, their website is flawed, at least in this instance, and their customer service is extremely poor when it comes to resolving issues such as this. I would rather spend more just to make sure my family and I get the type of room we need.

Web site would not work I called the number waited an hour and then the guy told me try again tomorrow he could not list me on a flight and hung up, I emailed customer support they dont do email anymore so I am done

I tried to cancel a car for a trip I was taking to see my father. He called to say that he may have COVID and for me not to come. I called and the rep wanted my father's name to cancel my reservation. I told her that this information is private and they shouldn't need his name to cancel a reservation that I made. She actually told me that they don't require personal info due to COVID anymore - hello but my dad's name is personal. I will never go to Hotwire again.

Will never use Hotwire again. They don't care about their customers it shows and go luck when your reservation goes wrong and it will. 100% I've had a night of hell and a ruined vacation because of Hotwire. They don't care.

Worss app. Call customer service to cancel my booking for a hotel and they said they cannot cancel my booking so they gave me some foreing number for me to call and it was not even a good number. I can"t even cancel thru the app.

Beware of Hotwire

This is a fraud business, they post good deals then they the website automatically change the location of pick up and drop off right after payments. Afterward, they take money and refuse to change or refund the money back. Then they charge more double the the advertised prices or take the the whole payment without using service
They are time waster, not respectful,

I had the worst experience I have ever had renting a car. I made a reservation for car rental thru Hotwire, they selected Dollar Rent a Car. I arrived at Dollar's Houston Hobby Airport counter on Friday at 7 pm (within 1 hour of the reservation), there was a sign instructing to go straight to the shuttle, I waited for the shuttle for more than half an hour while seeing shuttles from every other rental company pass in front of me. I decided to call Dollar and they said that the office was closed (at an airport location on a Friday at 7 PM!) and they couldn't do anything because the reservation was made thru Hotwire. I contacted Hotwire and they provided ZERO assistance. After renting a car from a different rental company (and getting late to my appointment) I have contacted Hotwire several times because the rental was pre-paid, I have explained to them that they didn't provide a warning while the reservation was made, they (both Hotwire and Dollar) didn't contact me before closing the office even though I had a reservation, they didn't provide assistance or solutions afterward and are refusing to issue a refund based on policies which is basically stealing money. On top of this, they provide no options to speak or chat with a supervisor. I warned them that I will proceed to reject the bank transaction, write a Nasty review, avoid using Hotwire ever again and make it one of my goals in my life to let everyone I can what happened. Their response is that the respect my decision. I am very impressed with the Quality of Customer Service!

We booked a car rental through Hot Wire in the thick of the pandemic and had to cancel for credit due to travel restrictions. Went to rebook, and they didn't apply our credit. Charged us in full, again. THEN they wouldn't let us cancel our new reservation. Called twice, spoke with several different staff and they were rude, unapologetic, and completely unhelpful. Will be filing a complaint with BBB.

Worst car rentals

Their customer service is outrageously poor. Their agents don't know their own policies. If you can manage to get a supervisor on the phone they'll offer to cancel your reservation and nothing else. If you actually attempt to get help with any issue they'll hang up on you.

Rented a car from HW to be picked up in Chicago. 2 days before pick up date, called HW to see if we can cancel it. We were told by the representative to call Hertz and cancel it ( no mention that it was final sale). If they would have mentioned that it was a final sale, we would have kept the reservation and use it while in Chicago. We ended up renting a car for few days in Chicago from Enterprise and paid separately. What a waste. They lost our business forever and ever. Poor customer service.

I'm not going to be long; but I booked a Hertz car through Hotwire and when I showed up on my booking date, there was no car available. I ended up booking through Dollar car rental and it cost me about $300 more. I requested Hotwire to pay the difference and they refused. Only offering me a $25 voucher. Do not do business with Hotwire or Expedia.

Confirmed Reservation Wasn't

Horrible service! We had a reserved hotel in Paso Robles for $231.94 a night. Upon arrival at 9:30 PM we were told that the hotel is sold out and they did not receive our reservation from Hotwire. We spent the next hour and a half trying to reach someone from Hotwire (the phone number was directing us to Expedia). Finally, a person somewhere in the Philippines said that we can go to a Motel 6 that was 20 miles away, this was a horrible 2 star Motel 6 where we were charged $205 per night by Hotwire even though it was advertised at $60. Hotwire gave us a $27 credit and they felt like they were doing us a great favor. We are NEVER using Hotwire again!
