Stay away!
September 25, 2009

Stay away! They fraudulently represent the location of the hotels they deal with. The price was not lower than I could have found had I known the true location of the hotel. When I called them - they could care less and will not correct the problem. Not worth the risk.

Hotwire violated own ranking policy and rated a hotel a 3 star based on the hotel ranking of itself. Priceline, Yahoo, Expedia all ranked lower than a 3. Policy is to take an average, but when most rankings are 2s and the highest is 3, the average cannot be 3.

Customer service after 45 minutes told me that they had cancelled the reservation, but 3 days later the credit card had not been refunded. A second call resulted in an admission that the reservation had been cancelled, but that they would have to refer it for research before refunding money from a cancellation.

I understand the no refund policy, which is fine as long as the quality of hotel is what is advertized. This is a bait and switch scam. The chain itself is listed by Hotwire as an example of a typical 2 star property. Although not all chain hotels earn the same rating, this is clearly not a 3 star in terms of facilities, safety and location which was only on the fringe of the advertized area.

Owned by expedia and have cheaper prices - If you are looking on expedia and find a hotel, but you want it cheaper, then just check out this site. You can pretty much figure out what "random" hotel you will be assigned by looking to see what is available on expedia. It is usually about 10% less than what you see on expedia. The star rankings are not the same, so that is not the best way to figure it out. By looking at what amenities are offered, that is the best way to figure out what hotel you are getting from hotwire. The worst part about hotwire is that you are given no choice on if you get 2 double beds or one king bed. But you can always ask nicely when you get to the hotel.
