I chose a 3 star hotel in the Baltimore inner harbor area. What I got was a hotel that was in the middle of the worst neighborhood I had ever seen both in person or on TV. There were homeless sleeping on the steps, in the parking lot, and in tents right next to the building. It was the worst possible situation and the 5 families we were with were all put in a dangerous situation.
When I called and asked Hotwire to please move us to another property, they dismissed the seriousness of the situation and then denied my claim. I asked to speak with a supervisor and moments later was hung up on.
I then contacted holiday inn and they said that they cannot help us because Hotwire already denied our claim. We then all got back in the car and drove home.
I emailed Hotwire customer service today and their dismissive careless attitude continued. All along hiding behind their fine print instead of doing the right thing.
I was a 12 year loyal customer of Hotwire but after dealing with these people over this situation, all I can say is... DO NOT USE HOTWIRE EVER! They have no problem putting you and/or your loved ones in danger! Terrible company all around.
I have been very happy with the price of the hotels I been booking. Hotwire adds a fee on top of the sales tax and has it all in one on your bill. You might just think that it is hotel tax, but it is twice as much as it should be. My identity was just stolen today and the local news reported yesterday that booking with hotwire is the culprit. I have only used my charge with them for the last three weeks booking hotels every weekend.
I booked a vehicle rental for specific dates I needed it. Gave me a decent rate, still not cheap but OK. I reviewed my itinerary prior to payment and all information was correct so I paid. I received my email confirmation and the computer had changed my dates. I called customer service, twice. Both reps were reading off of a script making it abundantly clear that hotwire does this OFTEN. They offered to cancel the booking but ONLY if I rescheduled for the correct dates. When they quoted me the correct dates the price went up by over $350! So they would either keep my unused $400, or charge me an additional $350 for me to actually receive the service I signed up for in the first place. Hotwire is a piece of $#! T! I am still in the process of filing a scam claim with Paypal… wish me luck.
I was burned by Hotwire this evening... Using their Android ( a work in progress), I attempted to book a hotel through Hotwire. The app said that the booking did not go through, but said that I wouldn't be charged and to try it again. I tried it again and the app said that the hotel was no longer available. I tried three more times and each time the app failed before I could get to the booking page. I gave up and called my wife, asking her to book a room further down the road using Hotwire on her computer. She successfully booked a hotel for me. When I arrived at the new hotel, I logged on to my email using my laptop. I found an email confirming the first hotel. I now had been charged for two rooms for the same evening. The Hotwire supervisor said that I would be charged for both rooms and that I should have seen the booking confirmation on my email even though the app said that the booking had failed. My Android phone is set to only sync on demand to save data fees.
Hotwire made a profit on both rooms, even the one that I didn't use.
I recently booked a Savannah Hotel on Hotwire. The site said I would be getting a midtown hotel at 45% off. After arriving I realized I was given a Southside Hotel. Hotwire had charged me $61 per night. The hotel was only 2-star and their nightly rate (posted on the door) was $50 per night. I decided to finish my vacation and contact Hotwire. They said since I waited more than 48-hours they couldn't help me. Very disappointed.
My most recent experience using HOTWIRE was THE WORST experience I've ever had in booking a hotel reservation!
Despite the fact that we got a re-confirmation from HOTWIRE for this reservation a week before we traveled, when we arrived at the hotel, the hotel did NOT have a reservation for us. After some searching, the clerk found a reservation that had been submitted by HOTWIRE for us for the same date NEXT YEAR, which didn't match the confirmation we received. Despite this error, the clerk was able to find a room for us... BUT, when he tried to change the erroneous HOTWIRE reservation, he found that the payment card that HOTWIRE used had expired... after 3 calls to the HOTWIRE Help Desk (which is VERY DIFFICULT to reach after midnight!), the HOTWIRE agent finally faxed a new reservation with a valid charge card, and we were able to get to our room after more than 1-1/2 hours of trying to rectify the multiple errors in the original HOTWIRE reservation. Then, when we wrote the HOTWIRE Customer Service the next day, they sent us a form e-mail saying only that "[We] regret your HOTWIRE experience was anything less than exceptional."
This experience was TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE! We did our part by blindly selecting a hotel category and paying immediately, but HOTWIRE failed to deliver on their end of the agreement (it was only due to our persistence and the patient diligence of the hotel clerk that we were not stranded), nor did they even offer an apology for their multiple errors. Based on this experience, we are UNLIKELY to ever use HOTWIRE again.
I've used hotwire a handful of times to book last minute hotel stays; all have been great, but I once came across a problem when I pulled up to a hotel and was informed there is ONLY valet parking. There was no mention of this when I was booking and I ended up spending nearly 30 a day to park, PLUS I of course had to tip because lets face it, not tipping is horrible. I have had flawless stays any other time I have booked through them, but this peeved me.
Hotwire - BEWARE!
We booked the Montvale in Spokane through Hotwire. (Nothing against the Montvale.) However, using Hotwire was a mistake because it was advertised that we were getting a $203/night room at a 56% savings. When we called the hotel, they said we were getting a standard $129/night room. It took a half hour on the phone speaking to different levels of authority at Hotwire to finally be told that they would not do anything about it and that there was no refund. Period! This was a "bait & switch," and calculated mis-advertising. We will never use Hotwire again.
Hotwire excels in one specific area: below-market "mystery" hotels which offer exceedingly low rates for those consumers who are willing to take a gamble. If you are flexible on the name brand and the exact location and amenities, what you get in return is a bargain which may well be worth the unknowns.
I booked a hotel in Miami and was not told at the time of the booking that I could expect to hear construction noise during the morning and afternoon hours. When I complained to Hotwire I was told I would be given a future small credit but no credit on this current booking and until I was actually in the hotel and dealing with the noise would they even discuss this issue further. This is after the hotel already warned me that I could expect to encounter noise during my stay. William the supervisor at Hotwire was uncompromising on this. Buyer beware that when you book with Hotwire you have no idea what you're getting until you've actually used the services that you're paying for. The service you've paid for may give you advance warning only after calling them but don't expect Hotwire to give you this info and don't expect Hotwire to accommodate you in a satisfactory way if you are unsatisfied. What they should have done is issued a refund and let me choose another hotel. They insisted they only guarantee a "comfortable" and clean room. To them, a room blasting with construction noise is still a "comfortable" room. This is the last place you want to make your travel plans.
I paid more money just to have a hot tub as I booked myself and teamates into a hotel. The hot tub/pool was not even built yet in our half built hotel and hotwire stated they could not help me because it was a renovation. Absolutely ridiculous. Because I booked though hotwire the hotel would not help me either stating if I booked directly with them they would have told me. Unrefundable limbo. Getting mocked on the phone was at least a human response but the lack of care I paid close to $100 extra for this amenity is angering. Will never use this service again, according to what I was told a hotel room could have a missing wall that is "under renovation" and there is nothing I can do about it. Absolute joke.
Wow... Billed me over and over again without ever actually placing my booking. After trying to book a great deal (5 star hotel for AUD$130/night in Vancouver!) I was told that there was an issue with the details I'd entered - try again. After trying again and again with no luck, I found out that every time I tried to submit it I was being billed. Call center was of little help - gave me a phone number overseas and that's all. Looking forward to having to argue thousands of dollars in charges as well as overlimit fees. What a deal! Still don't have a hotel to stay at.
The room I booked through Hotwire was $73.00 with taxes and fees the total was $86.23. They have a "low price guarantee", but when I found 3 identical bookings for less they had a loop hole for all of them. Then I found one that I was certain met all their requirements for $66.60 with taxes and fees the total was $71.90. Their so called "guarantee" is smoke and mirrors. Their big discount of $73.00 was $1.00 less than what the hotel charges if you walk in off the street. I do not know what they pay the hotel but even if they paid $74.00 and the taxes, the room still cost me almost $7.00 more than it would if I had checked in myself. They will not save you money, find an honest web site where they will not rip you off and always check the room price by contacting the hotel/motel itself before booking with anyone.
Horrible customer service. Guess you get what you pay for. They would have to have a 75% discount for me to use them again.
I booked a hotel yesterday for one week. Hotwire charged me right after the order and then I got charged again by the hotel because hotwire wasn't supposed to charge me. Not only that but the hotel is under construction and there's not even breakfast until they are done remodeling. Ridiculous! Now hotwire won't give me a refund.
Hotwire has the worst customer service I have ever seen. I made a hotel reservation and used my debit card instead of my credit card. When I discovered my error a few hours later, I called to see if they would void the transaction and charge the other card. No. No. No. No. And then a 5th no via email. I do not recommend Hotwire. Not at all. Their "customer service reps" follow a script when speaking to you or emailing you and they will not deviate from that script. It's very frustrating to deal with them.
The worst customer service. They blatantly lie about your discounts and then won't do anything about it. Better Business Bureau where are you? They are scamming people!
I bought a stay through hotwire.com website - Itinerary *******643 and checked in at the hotel today and for my surprise, this is not what I had purchased from your website. I was deceived by you!
• This Hotel Del Sol has 2 stars, while I bought a 3 star hotel from hotwire.com website.
• The Hotel Del Sol is not located in the District of Union Square – which is where I bought it –, but in the Marina District.
• The references room images that were shown in the hotwire.com website during my purchase are completely different from what I found at the Hotel Del Sol. They have nothing to do with these rooms.
• I researched the price of this hotel on booking.com site and the price is almost half the price I paid for hotwire.com website.
• The price I paid for Hotel Del Sol to hotwire.com website is almost the price of the Hilton Hotel in San Francisco.
Anyway, I feel cheated by hotwire.com website and I want to repaired.
PS.: I would like to make it clear that this is not a complaint about the Hotel Del Sol, but about the hotwire.com website's informations' integrity.
I have used hotwire for about 3 years and typically have had a pretty good experience (avg discount of around 25-30%). However my most recent experience has been horrible.
In October I looked for a hotel in Washington DC. The Hotwire website said the hotel in question was 5 star and comparable rate of $699/night so the Hotwire rate was 75% off!
After reviewing some other websites I was convinced that this was a high end hotel room in a premier 5 star hotel so I booked for $168 night. After being notified of the hotel name I realized this is the same hotel I stayed in 6 mths ago (Also purchased via hotwire) when it was rated 3.5 stars. I then checked the hotel website and found that for the dates in question the rate was $169.50. So my 75% savings were in fact less than 1% and the hotel is not even close to a 5 star location.
I repeatedly explained all of these details to hotwire and they said "sorry, you booked it and we can't issue any refunds."
I'll never use their service again
NEVER AGAIN WILL HOT WIRE GET A CENT OF MY MONEY! Here's why... I found a much better place to book vacations through a company called wake up now. I get at least 66% off on vacations up to 95%. Plus hot wire had several "service" and hidden fees that I was unaware of and wasn't told up front. The customer service over the phone was nasty and rude, like I had done something to the woman. Smh never again though!
Answer: In my case it was only when I convinced a Hotwire customer service representative that I needed to speak to her supervisor that I got any "service."
Answer: Phone the hotel to confirm your booking at the rate you paid. Make sure you get the name of the person you talk to and maybe have him send you an E Mail confirmation.
Answer: They can't. For me it's $1400 (more characters to post answer)
Answer: Pay for it then you'll know. Don't book through these people. Read the reviews. I'm still upset with myself for paying lots more than I could have gotten it directly from the Hotel itself. There is no customer service.
Answer: No. I didn't see Richards Hotel on the list. Having said that I've never been to Richard's Hotel it could be great. They just don't show it as one of them. Be kind to yourself read the reviews and stay away
Answer: Never share your credit card info... they double bill you
