Several weeks with missing ingredients. Order completely screwed up one too many times. Missing one whole meal in this last box. Cancelling service all together. Very incompetent.
Well, Ive been with HomeChef for about 6 months or so now. I love the recipes, and I can tell that they use quality ingredients, however, I consistently receive meat that has browned, rotted, or leaked, and vegetables that have gone bad. Every time I notify them, they do give a $10 credit (on a $20 meal), however, its just happening too often, and Im afraid Im going to have to discontinue the service. A loss for me, because I really enjoy the menu and the concept along with the convenience of their service. I will try again in a year, after theyve been in business a bit longer and hopefully improve before they lose too many customers / revenues.
I either have missing produce or potatoes that are black inside, zucchini and beans that are frozen and even a bruised and moldy tomato.
We haven't had a bad meal yet, with everything from steak to vegetarian meals. As far as price goes, I urge people to add up the tIme spent shopping for groceries, hauling them home, putting them away, and then making time for cooking.
How much is your time worth? How much do you value more free time?
Plus, there's no waste, no weird, yucky, and unrecognizable food hiding in the bottom of the vegetable drawer or stuck in a container in the back of the fridge. Home chef works for our budget and our lifestyle.
So, I have to take just a minute to rave about our menu delivery service, Home Chef. The food is so good, inventive, and healthy, and I get SO excited every Friday waiting for the box to arrive and the new menu choices to be posted. It's wonderful to be back in the kitchen, cooking from scratch every night, and we really enjoy the food. It is such a weird, cool feeling to walk into the grocery store and not need a single thing for dinner. We just get our cat food and milk and done - our grocery bill has actually gone down since we started the service, and we waste almost no food now! Seriously, I freaking LOVE it, and I can't recommend it highly enough for anyone who's curious or on the fence about subscribing.
I tried this service once and was not happy to see that my box arrived leaking some kind of fluid. I let it go and cooked the food, which was tasty enough. Following this, I had a mix up with my account and was sent a delivery the day before Thanksgiving while I was out of town. While I should have been more careful to make sure that I didn't get this delivery, there was a complication with my account which explained why this happened. When I reached out to them about it, they couldn't see my side of the issue at all and simply referred to it as "user error." A smart business would try to keep me as a happy customer for future profits, but this company doesn't operate this way. My experience with Blue Apron has been much more positive and I will stick with them.
I am surprised to see all the good reviews for Home Chef. I signed up about two months ago, but have not been happy with my experience. The first two orders had damaged produce freezer burned from the ice packs they were packed in. Twice I reached out to the company regarding the damaged food I was receiving. They never responded to either correspondence. During the sign up process, Home Chef has the client fill out a profile that indicates types of meals preferred. I am a low carb eater and indicated that on my profile. Unfortunately, I did not realize the order would automatically be sent if I did not go in and select a meal. They sent me an order and it was full of carbs... risotto... doesn't get much worse than that for a low carb eater. At that point, I decided I needed to take a break and skipped all the meals I could. I forgot to follow up and cancel the account. Today, I came home to find two more high carb meals on my step. Just got on line to cancel my account and come to realize they have already processed another delivery for next week. I finally saw the Pause button on the Account page and have indefinitely paused my account, and followed up with a request to Customer Service to cancel the account. I find it frustrating that I can't cancel my service and account online. Goodbye Home Chef and good riddance! Your customer service is sorely lacking!
I am a vegetarian and was not able to see the options before signing up. Once I saw the options I tried to cancel my subscription so I am being held to the first order. I do not really want to eat a cauliflower pita or canned artichokes or spinach egg muffins for dinner. Home Chef should allow you access to the options before you sign up or let you cancel so you do not waste your time and money.
Blue Appron and Hello Fresh are way better, and have better customer service. Home chef food was wilted not fresh and even had mold on it!
I have tried almost all of them and I can say without any hesitation that HomeChef is the very best service available. Once I found HomeChef I cancelled our other service (there were 6 different ones over the past year). Reason being because of the amazing flavors of every singe item that is in the meal and the ease of the recipes. Plus, there is much less prep than the other services. I have been with them about 5 months now and have not had one repeat. The entree is always amazing as are the side dishes. Vegetables are so extraordinary that even the pickiest eater will devour them. I absolutely detest brussel sprouts, but have ate both side dishes that included them. The quality of meat and vegetable are the type of quality available to restaurants, not what we can buy in a typical grocery store. The meat melts in your mouth, even fish taste freshly caught. The sauces you prepare are to die for and only something you are use to in a fine dining restaurant experience. I feel like a professional chef, with all the tips and tricks I've learned. You get a nice notebook on your first order so you can keep the beautiful step by step directions on a beautifully photographed 8X10 glossy paper. I have a gorgeous cookbook with all our favorite recipes (which has been all but 5 so far) in this notebook. I have no idea what it would cost to purchase this type of recipe book of 5 star recipes, and they just keep coming! I can never really tell you how much we love this and while I am picky, my Husband may be the pickiest person I know and we both look forward to every single meal! We have not tired of it yet, and after a few months of the others, we did. Thee are only two of us at home now and this service is so reasonable that I am saving over $50 a week on groceries and eating better than we ever have before. It is the best decision I have ever made to switch to this service, it is a no brainer and I recommend HomeChef without any hesitation!
Small portions, really weird favor profiles, just overall not good. Oh, and the ingredients were pretty low par. Such a bummer.
Home Chef is a blast! & the food is amazing!
1st we tried Blue Apron & we were having fun making the meals, they don't spend much $ on the food they send you... Lots of celery roots, ground beef and sunny side up eggs! It got pretty stupid! Then we found out that Home Chef sends steak every week & you can pick your meals from 10 choices for the same price! This week they sent us steak, veal, shrimp & chicken brst... last week they sent us steak, ribs, salmon & pork!
I'm just in love w Home Chef! The food is always amazing and the time & money they are saving us is irreplaceable:)
For Valentines Day we are getting Filet & over the holidays they sent out cheese cakes & appetizer trays. Stuffed mushrooms & bruschetta. Our friends loved it! For $4 they also offer fresh fruit smoothies and fresh fruit bowls:)
No more refrigerator and cupboards filled with expiring ingredients... they send you exactly what you need. No more wondering up and down grocery store aisles looking for items, no more over paying for ingredients!
We were spending a lot of $ at restaurants and not enjoying food this good...
Plus it's been lots of fun having my husband cook w me. This service has given us a good winter hobby to do together:)
If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask me... I obviously love talking about Home Chef!
Answer: You can NEVER cancel. Once you sign up, you can always "pause" your account and -- based on some reviews here -- the company seems to occasionally ignore your request and ships (and charges you) anyway. Based on my experience with their non-existent customer service, this is not the kind of company you want to give your credit card # to, as they appear to be unethical, and they are reluctant to honor their satisfaction guaranty.
Answer: You should be fine.
Answer: I've had the same problem and been unable to get HomeChef to respond.
