The company exhibits a mixed reputation, with notable strengths in customer satisfaction when it comes to specific contractors and service providers, who are often praised for professionalism and quality work. However, significant concerns arise regarding the lead generation service, with numerous customers expressing frustration over poor-quality leads, lack of refunds for invalid contacts, and overwhelming solicitations. Many reviews indicate a decline in service quality following the merger with Angie's List, leading to a perception of the company as unreliable. Overall, while individual service experiences can be positive, systemic issues with lead handling and customer support remain prevalent.

Trying to get a simple electrical job done through Home Advisor was an absolute nightmare that lasted over a month. I agreed to their "Fixed Price" contract, which was not fixed at all. After three weeks and two appointments, Home Advisor revealed that I had been given wrong information by their Call Center personnel; i. E., the Fixed Price contract did not include parts, just the service call to my home. In fact, nowhere in their Fixed Price Terms of Agreement does it say the customer has to supply the parts.
Every contact to Home Advisor routes to the Philippines, where the employees at the call center are working from home. They do not have the authority to complete the booking and tell you who will be the contractor, nor do they have the authority to have a manager come on the line or even call you back... and most of the time they do not have access to your online account. They are incompetent and there is never any resolution to an issue. Again, this was the worst experience of my life. I was a paying member of Angie's List for more than 15 years and the merge with Home Advisor has put the company in the toilet.
The first contractor did not show up because the person who booked the job wrote the wrong address on the ticket. When I tired to call Angie's List/Home Advisor to ask the contractor's name and number, I again got the Philippines, who told me I could not call the contractor because my phone number was not in their system...(remember, I am a "paying member" for over 15 years and they have called me tens of times over the years). So the job was rescheduled for the next week. The second contractor who came was not a certified electrician, did not speak English very well, and did not bring the parts to do the job. He asked me where the parts were. When I called Home Advisor (Philippines), they now told me I had to supply all the parts. I asked them..."How do I know what parts to buy?"
This is really is a crazy way to do business. All in all I spoke with more than 30 people at Home Advisor and asked that I be routed back to the U.S. to speak to someone in Customer Service..."no can do" they said. I've asked for a Manager from the U.S. to call me more than 20 times: No one ever called. One person in the Philippines called me, but she was not a manager. Since I take copious notes, I told her (Joy) I had spoken to her 3x before. Over a one-month period, I spent more than 35 hours on the phone with Home Advisor (Philippines). The end result was I hired someone myself to do the job that took 90 minutes and cost me less than Home Advisor was going to charge me. I resigned my 15-year membership with Angie's List/Home Advisor and had to petition to get back the money they charged to my credit card, even though the job was never begun and they were not supposed to charge my card until the job was complete. Again, a horrific experience.
I think this is the second or third time I have used this app. The professionals that are on it reply quickly and do a great job.
Family business. Excellent superb service at a very reasonable price. Very personable and knowledgeable technician. They'll never sell you something you don't need.
Started with friendly and continuous communication. Very professional and organized. Ended with complete removal of all items in a quick and efficient manner.
Locksmith where he the tech had to chip out the latches and it was not easy. I am novice handy man and i did sum of the work where as he finished the work.
Used this service before and continue to get great results
I only had two actual jobs done through Home Advisor but both were completed satisfactorily at the time.
Great experience little pricey but a job well done
The old, pre-Angi HomeAdvisor was great. Their roster of professionals was always the best and the website was fast and easy to use.
In fact, we went to HomeAdvisor to get away FROM Angi's List which we had had nothing but bad experiences with.
Now Angi owns them and the quality is noticeably degraded.
Disappointed, to say the least!
If I could give a zero star review, I would. They require 24 hours notice for you to change the appointment, but they have no problems cancelling on you less than two hours before the appointment. It is all about them, their convenience. I have to take a day off work and lost income, that is not their problem. It is only their problem if you have a something unexpected come up, but you have to give them 24 hours notice. They are just more important than you. You pay if you cancel, they just get to reschedule less than two hours before the appointment. (I hesitate now to call it an appointment. They just consider it a possible time they may hold you accountable to if they have nothing better to do than the job you have for them. The treated me like I was only an necessary evil that they have to get money from. Otherwise they would not deal with me. If you have years to get a job done and want to show up and get no showed, they may be fine. I suspect they will show up when they have nothing better to do. I obviously cannot comment on the quality of the work done, because it hasn't been done.
Did not get as many bidders as we had hoped. Only 3 out of 5 actually bid on the project
Before starting a large project, I always check with HomeAdvisor for expected costs and to provide me with options on contractors in my area. I feel as though HomeAdvisor does a good job of vetting the contractors before I have contact with them.
Requested a quote to have our gutters cleaned on our 1.5 story house. HomeAdvisor screens qualified companies to perform work. Received several calls and compared prices and was able to successfully have my gutters cleaned in less than a week. Would recommend using HomeAdvisor again!
I needed some damaged furniture removed and the company called me almost immediately.
Difficult job.
Many drains to clear out in backyard to front yard.
Súper helpful. Ivan and team worked with me to clear out my stuff at a price I could afford. They are efficient, courteous, on time, and get the work done.
I recently had my bathroom redone by Eddie Mac's Home Improvement, LLC. It was completely gutted down to the studs and the floor fixed due to a leak. It was then totally transformed. New plumbing, electrical wiring and all new fixtures. Eddie added a few little extras to the tile work and even scraped and repainted my floor grate to blend with the floor tiles. He texted me often to keep me updated with the progress, often including pictures. He answered any questions or concerns I had and never made me feel like I was bothering him. It came out beautifully and I am quite pleased. I would definitely use his company again.
Great service. Finished under budget. Cleaned up work area. Would highly recommend Kevin Jackson for any work that needs done.
Answer: We had a similar experience when first trying Home advisor out. They kept taking money out of our account arbitrarily. I finally had to file stop payment forms at my bank. Then they threatened us with extra fees unless we "settled" our account. We have strict DTPA laws (deceptive trade practice act) in our state. I advised we complain to our Attorney General about this. I think home advisor should be banned in our state because of this fraud.
Answer: I didn't, they have been blowing my phone up for 6 month's now and now they act like thier desperate for me to sign with them. I have absolutely no want or will i ever sign with them after i have heard what thier doing to contractors who have a contract with them. I just signed with a family owned reality company and even they told me not to sign and even when i tell home advisor i don't want thier business they ignore my request and still call and now they act like thier a home owner requesting painting but once i get to asking where they live or information all of a sudden I'm being told to do a background check and i sign up for free! But i have to pay a percentage of my leads or size of job something of that nature where i pay them for a no guarantee of work as i see it. I can't trust handing money to a company that's being deceitful in a phone call off the rip! Just be careful i don't hear good thing's about them all over now.
Answer: Fake leads, sends email, text & calls between 20-30/day and charges for each. Even if Contractor doesn't open Or answer any calls! Will rip off contractors about $800/day until they catch it and no refunds! Do Not Use HomeAdvisor!
Answer: I don't know about the house cleaners but, I do not trust the company based on my own recent experience.
Answer: You don't know you have to call home advisor and wait on the phone for an hr until they pick up
