HomeAdvisor (Powered by Angi) Reviews Summary

The company exhibits a mixed reputation, with notable strengths in customer satisfaction when it comes to specific contractors and service providers, who are often praised for professionalism and quality work. However, significant concerns arise regarding the lead generation service, with numerous customers expressing frustration over poor-quality leads, lack of refunds for invalid contacts, and overwhelming solicitations. Many reviews indicate a decline in service quality following the merger with Angie's List, leading to a perception of the company as unreliable. Overall, while individual service experiences can be positive, systemic issues with lead handling and customer support remain prevalent.

All they did was charge you for bogus leads that they send and you had seconds to get to it before it is gone and they still charge your credit card for answering to it which no one never answer the phone leads or get back to you. Also when you cancelled out the service they will hijack your company name and add they own number to your company name so all the calls goes to them. What a sham and rip off company. It all a marketing game. To attract contractors to join and then billed their cards. Few contractors had success by working for cheap prices i would avoid all these marketing companies that advertise for homeowners to call them

Home advisor is a joke just wasted 290$ for the membership, and they refused to refund me. Be careful do not sign up with them. They will charge you the lead fee 24$ for fake leads. They send the same job lead to 3 different contractors and they charge each contractor 24$ and only one may get the job. They lied to me from first day and never told me that will be charged for every lead even if costumer never answers the phone or the job never gets booked. Personally received 10 leads and none of them turned into a service call. They do not care about the contractors.

As a plumbing Contractor I set monthly budget at $300($30/day) month to try it out. HomeAdvisor charged me $800 for one day! The few leads I went on were not real. One was a gas line quote where they had 4 contractors show which is always a waste of time. After calling back the "customer" never decided. Why? Because there was no customer or project! HomeAdvisor set that up and charged 4 contractors. When you call about the monthly $ limit, it's only after they explain this impossible system of being charged 5 different ways and the $ limit is only 1 way and the others compound on top of it with no $ limits.

I have honestly had no issue with HomeAdvisor as far as purchasing the leads from them. I probably would not be in business had it not been for HomeAdvisor because I don't feel like looking for people to do work on their house I'd rather people come to me needing work done. If you're a contractor and you're not getting the jobs that's because you need to work on your communication because I never have that problem. As a customer going on HomeAdvisor I would advise you to check the reviews out before you hire a contractor. And when a contractor comes to your house look for the professionalism and how he presents himself. A 50 year old guy still working with his hands and not running a company means he is not that organized and although he's probably really good at what he does you're probably not going to get the quality of work you're thinking of and also keep in mind that if you're expecting to pay a dollar for a project you're going to get a dollars worth of quality.

As an enrolled Professional, Homeadvisor blatantly disregarded my "Spending Target" totaling $1,436.97 in the six weeks AFTER setting my Spending Target to $100 per month. On making contact, HA affirmed my understanding of the spend target, but claimed certain types of leads are exempt from the spending target per Terms and Conditions. The terms are very clear and state nothing about spend target exceptions. HomeAdvisor is blatantly robbing Professionals. Please learn from my mistake and avoid HomeAdvisor.

We were a new business looking for customers, they'd said they'd help...
They sure help drainer my bank account, even when I canceled our membership for over charging again and again.
Even after canceling with them 3 months later 456 was taken from my account without my knowledge.

Don't trust them.

I had to call for a reimbursement. Well 2. Because they were denies. The first one the guy spoke Spanish. I do not speak spanish or other employees. There is no way we can run the appointment to give a price. We would not know what he is looking, we could not answer his questions, he could not answer our questions. The leads cost us $32.75 Home Avisor said they would credit me back $30.00 I figured fine I was busy and it was only $2.75 But after thinking about it they should have dine a full credit. If they do this throughout the day to 500 business's they profited $1375. 00
I received another lead that was denied. The guy did a garage floor for his customer. He messed it up. It was unlevel and needed to be re-done. He was paying for it. The problem is I told Home Advisor he is NOT the home owner. We give warranties and have a legal contract for the homeowner to sign. Home Advisor said they would reimburse me $15.00 I told them that was unacceptable. The lead cost $28.57 Home Advisor said well we could not get a hold of him, no one else sent this in for reimbursement. I told them well maybe they could not reach him like you could not. Them the lady said it is considered a lead because he is paying for the job. I told her we signed up to get leads from Homeowners NOT sub-contractors. My boss then got on the phone and said so what your telling me is you would rather loose our business over $28.57? She said she could not do anything and he asked to speak to someone that could make a business decision since she was not authorized to. She then said she would do a one time credit. If this happens again they are losing our business. They are on thin ice with us. We have another business we use to use them for and stopped bc the quality of leads went down and they did not reimburse you back fairly. Ever since they combined with Angie's List THEY WENT DOWN. I use to love them and got other business's to sign up with them bc they were great to deal with. NOT the same anymore. Save your money and spend it elsewhere. STAY AWAY FROM HOME ADVISOR & ANGIES LIST... Thay just want your money and don't care about the lead quality.

Scam
April 12, 2019

The companies are mostly of no quality. We trusted a company on home adviser to do our basement and they have no clue what they are doing! We're probably going to have to pay even more to fix this mess. 3700 down the drain. Don't trust home advisor

Terrible, complete scam for contractors and professionals. They force your leads on while turned off, constant dead leads, cost per lead is ridiculously overpriced. Not a good company to work with.

I have tried home advisor three times as have my friends the first time was for a dryer repair the person was not very knowledgable and kept raising the price the second and third time was for screen repair the people google the house to see the value and decide if you can afford them my friend who lives in a different neighborhood was quoted a price baised on the price of her house the people on this list seem more interested in the bottom line they can charge than the actual repair needed and do not seem to know how to do what they register the can do

Crooked crooks

Their leads don't turn into work. They sell the same lead to several contractors profiting 3 times for one possible lead. This has got to be illegal? The idiot reps tell you the same BS about how you are paying to advertise not guarantee any actual paying jobs. I think they should be investigated for fraud.

Before going into my complaint, I see people complaining about being bombarded with contractors immediately after putting in a request. The reason for this is that whether contractors get a bid or not, they get charged the fee. They have to jump on leads or they pay for nothing.

Now for my complaint. Over the past few months I have been attempting to cancel my account with Home Advisor. My business is closing and I do not need their services any longer and haven't needed their services since December really. I got a call from Home Advisor today with a lead, even though my account was supposed to be closed. In called them to get them to close my account. They said that I still had a balance due on my account. When the supposed balance was accrued, my account was supposed to be on standby. I told them that I would not pay, they said that they would not be able to close my account.

If I had a balance due for over 2 months, why would they keep sending me leads?

I would advise contractors to seek alternative methods of lead generation. HA does generate leads, but those leads are pretty expensive and there is no guarantee you will actually get the sale. You don't pay for sales, you pay for the leads themselves.

Thieves
April 9, 2019

I own 3 companies and I would be flat out ashamed if anyone of my companies was like this one. All they do is steal the pros money on bull$#*! leads even if you don't get to talk to the customer. I consider this company the worst kind of thief. I guess the difference in great companies and them they just run your card but I guarantee you that the owner wouldn't come or send an employee to my home or office and ask to run my card they have to do it without dealing with the pros face to face. This company is $#*! and not worth the toilet paper I wipe my $#*! with.

This is a company that only does steal money, I tried to make a subscription with them, they told me to give them my credit card number, that after doing a background check they would call me to continue with the subscription process, they were not going to load anything to the card, however 5 seconds later they took me out of the account $ 348 as soon as I realized call and cancel the subscription, I could do it within 72 hours, it was the past March 19 and today is April 4, and I still do not return the money, they are thieves, I call and I talk to a lot of people and they do not resolve and they pass it from department to department and I have to keep waiting, they are thieves. I recorded all the calls and give them to my lawyer.

I signed up with Home Advisor Pro thinking it would be a good invest for my company. I recieved leads but they were all from people that either did not own the home or people that gave false information on the site, or from scammers. When I tried to get a credit for these leads Home Advisor made it very difficult to get a credit back and most of the time I was denied. So now I owe over $1000 to Home Advisor for $0 return on my investment. This company preys on small business owners and uses their commercials to keep up a facade that they are a legitimate company. I strongly advise to STAY FAR AWAY!
