The company exhibits a mixed reputation, with notable strengths in customer satisfaction when it comes to specific contractors and service providers, who are often praised for professionalism and quality work. However, significant concerns arise regarding the lead generation service, with numerous customers expressing frustration over poor-quality leads, lack of refunds for invalid contacts, and overwhelming solicitations. Many reviews indicate a decline in service quality following the merger with Angie's List, leading to a perception of the company as unreliable. Overall, while individual service experiences can be positive, systemic issues with lead handling and customer support remain prevalent.

They don, t tell you everything when you sign up, like you will be auto debited ever week, you pay for leads even if you NEVER get a hold of the customer. So you pay $25 to $36 for phone numbers who never answer. You have to accept all of the crappy leads in order to get the good ones. I originally signed up and told the Guy I would be willing to pay more for only the good leads, that I didn't have time to wast calling the price shoppers and He said that would be fine. I found out Two or Three phone calls later that, s not allowed. You have to take all of them good or bad, and you will be billed for every one even if the customer never answers the phone. They want you to call these poor people continuously which is not how I do Business. If I call and leave a message I will not continue to bother someone who doesn't want to talk to me. I, m not a tele marketer which is what Home Adviser wants you to be. In the beginning they will refund some bogus leads but after the first week you will Pay for all of the leads. I was charged for around 25 leads and only talked to 4 people two of which just price shopping and I booked the other two. By the end of the month I lost money and gained a lot of stress. Oh ya you will get leads at 10 pm, Midnight and 4 am, and your supposed to call these people back immediately, now how professional does that sound. STAY AWAY
I was a Homeadvisor "Pro" for about a month, here's what I discovered: You have 72-hours to get a refund for your membership fee. Homeadvisor charges you for every lead (win or lose). If you get a wrong lead (homeowner miscategorizes their job), you will have to call in and talk to the billing department to remove the charge. I was told all leads are nonrefundable, so it is at Homeadvisor's discretion to refund you. Before you cancel your membership, make sure you talk to billing to remove any outstanding lead charges. Customer service will be much more gracious if you're still a member (you're nothing to them if you're not a member). $100 is the minimum spend target for leads. In other words, Homeadvisor wants to guarantee they take at least $100/month from you - again, there is no guarantee you will land any of these leads. Homeadvisor will tell you that they maintain a business relationship with their "Pros", but I see them as nothing more than bloodsucking leeches. If you're a new contractor, try to get customers the old fashioned way: website SEO, pass out business cards, go to homeowner events, etc. Homeadvisor preys on new contractors that want easy access to customers - you will pay dearly for this "easy access".
This is the worst experience I have ever had with-in one month H. A has charged me and billed me over $1,500 worth of leads I was NOT ever properly aware of! I wish I could screenshot my account info and from the 50 people that contacted me and I spoke to I got about 5 customers! Stay away people and do research before dealing with this crap!
I've spent over $10k in one year
Totally not worth it,
Bad customer service and they charge a lot for a good or bad lead!
I have been with home advisor for about four months and 80% to 90% of my leads are for services we do not perform. I call and have to fight to get a credit on the home advisor account, not back in my account. I have now turned off my leads for the max of 14 days. And I will have to keep doing this until my membership is up. This is a waste of time and money.
Have been signed up for home advisor for about 3 weeks. Worst nightmare ever! We got promised so much good from our sales rep. A after he got credit card info, he just disappeared for 8 days. I was unable to get in touch with him, and he never answered any of my voicemails. I spoke with 5 different people about an issue with our business name being advertised wrong. Which by the way our sales rep A. Promised would be fixed within 5 business days, and then disappeared. No one checked up on anything until I started complaining and then I got couple phone calls from them as "a nice service we want to go over how to use home advisor"... well that would have been great from start and not after 2 week of the worst membership I have ever signed up for. In the end, after more than 5 hours of phone conversations I got offered that they would pay half of my lead cost so total of 120$, until next day it changed to be 100$ credit for future leads. Might sound good - but after the worst service, why would I want to keep doing business with them?. The leads you get might seem promising in the beginning, until you figure out that it is almost impossible to get in touch with the home owner or if you do as we did, the customer ended cancelling because she had been contacted by 10 others. Which by the way home advisor promised that only 3 pros would get the lead... Also, impossible to speak with an actual manager. Do yourself a favor and NEVER sign up as a home advisor pro. Don't waste your money here!
American Industrial Door LLC. Installed a new garage door for us. We are very pleased with everything. Their prices are very reasonable.
Efficiency Air's proposal was the best of the 6 bids. Tim explained everything, and answered all our questions, and had the most reasonable price. They showed up on time to replace our existing HVAC in the attic. They got the job done in one day and cleaned up afterwards. He stayed later to educate us on how to operate the new HVAC. We are very pleased with the services and highly recommend Efficiency Air.
I have been using them for 4 months but I am seriously considering dropping them even tho I paid almost $300 to be a member. Their leads have been mostly good but when its a bad lead it can be costly. They seem to charge around $28 for each lead. I'm a pretty good salesman and I have quite a few stars but it still stings when you can't get a credit for a bad lead.
Recently their computer didn't register my first contact call with 3 customers. The customers are not responding and now I can't get the credit I would normally be entitled to for having been given a bad lead. I just lost $90.00. I called the company before I asked for a credit and they said they had heard from other members with a similar complaint and would make a note.
If you can't afford to loose (they call it marketing/investing) $300 or more per month I do not recommend you go this route.
I can't say I regret signing up I just wish I done a lot more research first.
Midland Maintenance Corp. did a fabulous job. Very courteous, respectful, and kept in touch at all phases of work. Nick did what he said he would do, when he said he would do it.
You will not be disappointed with the work they do!

So great salesman, he sold me temporarily. I research more and my fears where all over every review. So I call all day the following morning no answer all day, just hold, then lose call(they hung up). Finally the next morning after being on hold for 2 half hrs I call as a customer wanting to hire a pro. BOOM! Answer long story salesman said "your card wont be charged until 72 hrs later so try out a lead and see what you think".
Lie Saturday at 6 (when everyone is at dinner they sneak an email in saying I'm approved. The 299. Fee was taken off my card. Call em again they tell me 3 to 7 days you have your money 12 days later they say 30 days n no one has control over anything.
They will scam u with fake leads. They ain't even real number or names. How is it legal to do this. Saleman lie, they sell you false leads, take what they want out your account. You gotta sign up for 650$a week of leads to. "Hey u go ahead and try it out". Haha open it now they have $299+(lead)$50,+$650 hmmmm. Shame. Even managers lie and take no responsibility
Stay away from HomeAdvisor, because they charge you a lot of money and most of the times you don't get any project from them. Remove your account immediately.
HomeAdvisor, es una compania de ladrones que te roban tu dinero. Mantente lejos de ellos.
I tried to get a Drywall contractor using this site.
They send me a "contractor" who gave me the lowest price of all the ones who bid from other sites. Because, i speak Spanish language. I was able to get more information than the regular american Homeowner can get. Results/ The guy is not even legal in the USA.!
What it will happen if the guy decides to get my down payment and disappears? It is completely ridiculous that this happens in the USA. It should be a state regulation over these kind of online businesses. No wonder they want that you get the County's Construction permit. Be aware! Referral from Home Advisor doesn't mean that you are legally protected.
Okay, I got duped into using these guys. Out of 9 leads, I only got 1 job and it was for something outside of my scope of work. There is work on every corner and better ways of finding it than dealing with these vultures. I have been on it for 1 week and already I have to fight with them because they want to charge me money for leads that are bogus.
I had a plumbing need that was inside of a wall. As a matter of course if water pipe is inside of a wall I won't touch it. I see the HomeAdvisor.com ads on TV like everybody else does. I went on line and described the job. I got a great number of "Home Advisor.com Approved vendors all anxious to help immediately. I picked one with the most high ratings and called and made an appt. The "representative" from the plumbing company showed up promptly and was very polite and cordial. I showed him the task at hand. He asked about any and all plumbing issues I had, or might have? He noticed my water heater lacked an expansion tank and proceeded to tell me that "that is against the building code and that my life was in danger!" I replied, "For now, let's look at what I called you for, shall we?" He looked at the task in a pensive manner. I told him that this job is for "time and labor only and I use only Moen valves." He used some app on his phone and quoted an inclusive price that was 60 plus percent higher than what the current Means Book averages. I asked him, why his bid was as high as it was? He replied, that his bid was quite reasonable, and that he could have a plumber here in one hour to "take care of that!" (I am a licensed civil engineer and know full well the prevailing cost for this kind of work) I informed him that: " Sir, you have wasted both your time and mine would you please leave! He replied, I have to pay to be recommended by HOMEADVISOR, and it's not cheap." I did call another plumber with just a name and phone number that 4 days later did a great job at a little less than half of what this HomeAdvisor crook quoted. My advice: HomeAdvisor is a scam that at the very least victimizes honest contractors and attracts shyster contractors. I would advise all people to stay away from Home.Advisor.com vendors. Period!
I was under the impression that Home Advisor was a third party to get a home owner in touch with the right professionals for the right job. I booked a house cleaning (very straightforward if you ask me) for a move out clean. Booking was very easy, however you have no idea who is coming or from what company. I followed up with Home Advisor before the cleaning date to verify time and also that the cleaners were bringing their own supplies. Communication was easy and prompt with Home Advisor.
However, on the day of cleaning, a single woman showed up with a small Walgreens bag with "all her cleaning stuff." This is a 1700 sq ft property and I had requested extensive cleaning including inside the cabinets, fridge, and oven. She did not even have a broom or a mop. Even worse, how could one person possibly do all that cleaning alone? She was allotted 5 hours for the whole job. Needless to say, she did not get to half the house. The places she completed were done well, but half the house is still dirty and I ended up finishing the job between 9pm- midnight to be able to get the house ready for a tenant to move in (and I have a full time job to go to, which is why I hired someone in the first place).
Home Advisor was prompt to address my complaint about what happened and I am satisfied with their resolution. However they made a point to tell me "we only book 1 professional so next time feel free to book 2." So... If I had requested a kitchen remodel would they send 1 person to do the whole thing? How does that make sense? Aren't you supposed to send the right people for the right job, meaning assess the project and hire out the appropriate team?
Overall I am not a fan of being in the dark of who exactly a third party is sending out to do a job. In the future I will just go directly through the vendors.
I have been on this site a total of 5 times, each time i am unable to find an individual for the proper job, and if they find an individual, they are unwilling to drive the long distance or the person does not do that particular type of work. However, my main issue, every time I have used this site I would have scam callers, who call and do not answer.
I will never use this site again.
Received call from Bode tree service. They came when they said they would and also on time. Very respectful crew and job well done. Reasonsble as well. Mrs Gonzales Harlingen Tx
It's a been a couple of times now- Home Advisor gets you sometimes the most unethical, rude, unsavory scammers. And even in cases when they are on the call along with a service provider and they witness the Service provider being very rude to the customer when discussing quotes on a given project, they stand by quietly and do absolutely nothing- they take no action. So if you want to get scammed by one of the shady providers on their website or want to verbally abused, use Home Advisor.Or else, i found it is better just to do a google search and providers pop near your current location on Google showing google reviews of each provider. Will never be back again on Home Advisor anytime soon!
"Graham Finish Carpentry's" owner Bobby Graham, designed and installed wooden shelves for me, and I was very pleased with how they came out.
Bobby was pleasant, accommodating, on time, and left things neat and clean at the end of
The day.
Answer: We had a similar experience when first trying Home advisor out. They kept taking money out of our account arbitrarily. I finally had to file stop payment forms at my bank. Then they threatened us with extra fees unless we "settled" our account. We have strict DTPA laws (deceptive trade practice act) in our state. I advised we complain to our Attorney General about this. I think home advisor should be banned in our state because of this fraud.
Answer: I didn't, they have been blowing my phone up for 6 month's now and now they act like thier desperate for me to sign with them. I have absolutely no want or will i ever sign with them after i have heard what thier doing to contractors who have a contract with them. I just signed with a family owned reality company and even they told me not to sign and even when i tell home advisor i don't want thier business they ignore my request and still call and now they act like thier a home owner requesting painting but once i get to asking where they live or information all of a sudden I'm being told to do a background check and i sign up for free! But i have to pay a percentage of my leads or size of job something of that nature where i pay them for a no guarantee of work as i see it. I can't trust handing money to a company that's being deceitful in a phone call off the rip! Just be careful i don't hear good thing's about them all over now.
Answer: Fake leads, sends email, text & calls between 20-30/day and charges for each. Even if Contractor doesn't open Or answer any calls! Will rip off contractors about $800/day until they catch it and no refunds! Do Not Use HomeAdvisor!
Answer: I don't know about the house cleaners but, I do not trust the company based on my own recent experience.
Answer: You don't know you have to call home advisor and wait on the phone for an hr until they pick up
