The company exhibits a mixed reputation, with notable strengths in customer satisfaction when it comes to specific contractors and service providers, who are often praised for professionalism and quality work. However, significant concerns arise regarding the lead generation service, with numerous customers expressing frustration over poor-quality leads, lack of refunds for invalid contacts, and overwhelming solicitations. Many reviews indicate a decline in service quality following the merger with Angie's List, leading to a perception of the company as unreliable. Overall, while individual service experiences can be positive, systemic issues with lead handling and customer support remain prevalent.

If you are a professional stay away from this scam. If a salesman calls you, hang up immediately! This is a company that takes your money and promises al lot and gives nothing. Home Advisor is truly the worst of the worst.
Of all the leads I received, 61% were unreachable. Meaning I paid for leads that I was never able to even talk to. How can you sell a service to someone when you aren't even able to get in touch with them?
The salesman that talked me into this assured me that I would be given credit when this happened. LIE!
So, like I said, if you like having your money stolen from you, join Home Advisor. If you like keeping your hard earned money, stay away. You will be sorry you joined.
This morning I connected with the company Precise Property and Maintenance recommended by Home Advisor - within ten minutes Casey the owner called and I told him what worked was needed to be done and he had mentioned he was already in the area and could be there within the hour. I was so happy and because it was for my mothers home he even gave her a senior discount. Casey and his crew were so friendly, proficient, professional and precise regarding the trees trimmed and shrubs. We were so pleased with how affordable the price was. My mom gave him a tip and told him that she will have him come again in the future when they are in need to be trimmed again. Money well spent!"
Don't hire James. His labor charges are ridiculous. He's a handyman and has a "helper" and charges hourly rates at $68-$75 for each of them. $140 an hour for handyman work is ridiculous. Quotes are always underbid but then end up costing more because of a disclaimer that says it's only an estimate. Don't hire myHandypro.
HA will charge you for leads that are non-existent. We received a lead, called it. The person on the number given had no idea what we were talking about. Requested a credit from HA and it was declined. No reason for the declination was provided, just long winded explanation about how the money spent with HA should be looked at as a total marketing budget. From the comments here; its only a matter of time before HA is facing a Class Action Lawsuit. I'm glad I'm not an investor. Revenue and profits aren't real.
When I first began to use Home Advisor I was pleasantly surprised with the efficiency of their referrals. I would post a project and several vendors would contact me and we usually did business. Then there was a phase where 1, count em, 1 vendor would contact me and Home Advisor was all proud of - nothing. I stopped using the service as it was more efficient for me to find my own people. I tried them for my vacay home for a flooring project and the 1 "pro" they sent me pretty much botched the job. Now I need an exterior door replaced with some carpentry beyond the door involved. This time Home Advisor gave me the numbers of 4 different "pros" all happy to help me out. I contacted all 4 to get a range of prices. 2 made immediate appointments with me to look at the job. One never returned my call and one had me text some information to him. The 2 that made an appointment with me never showed up, thus ruining 2 separate days for my wife and myself. The final contact never got back to me at all. A side note, the one that missed an appointment contacted me again under another company name. I recognized the name and you can imagine how far that went. Home Advisor did "follow up" by emailing me within an hour of my request and asked if I was satisfied with my contractor. Really now, an hour? After that there was no follow up so I am taking it upon myself to let anyone know how I feel. I did get a contractor by visiting another condo near mine where a contractor per was working on a project. Thanks for nothing Home Advisor. Seriously, Home Advisor, don't expect anything positive from me again.
Did a test of the HA site for a project. Got a "recommended" contractor with no real address, only a phone number and reviews that were overwhelming positive but not realistic, except for the negative reviews.
My problem was a leaky freezer and non draining dishwasher. My appliance guy shows up in a Toyota. His toolbox is a duffle bag, his pipe cleaner is a coaxial cable. His solution is a cleaning of the refrigerator. After 3 hours and $200. My dishwasher is worse, my refrigerator is clean but still leaks. There is NO home advisor screaning?
I have called & spoken to HA about a contractor they list & are referring for jobs. This person has had his license taken away for 5 years from CSLB in the past. He is now again accused by CSLB with 4 different violations as well as 3 lawsuits from clients. He even has two RO's against him for harassing & stalking prior clients. This was all brought to the attention of HA legal department. They said a 3rd party checks their contractor's background when they sign up but not after that. So in other words by using this service you could be letting criminals into your home & giving them access to your family. Please do not use this company! Word of mouth & checking with the CSLB & YELP is a much better way to go.
Poor business manners, landscapers do not return calls, or keep appointments, senipr citizen getting very fustrated with home advisors
Been with home advisor one year. I received leads that were already sent and accepted bye the customer for another company to complete the work. I received these leads more than 36 hours after the customer had already chosen a professional. Their dispute process is a joke. I turned off auto renewal twice through customer service since you cannot find the option anywhere, and I still get charged for the yearly amount. They lie and say they sent out emails that if they did they obviously forgot to hit send or typed my address in wrong cuz I did not receive them. Call them to receive my refund that at this point is now fraudulent activity and they tell me that I have to wait while they go back and see if an employee made proper notes. Absolutely ridiculous. I strongly urge you to not use HomeAdvisor. They will promise you the world and steal from you from the get-go. And the person that signs you up will ghost you after you send your payment. You are left in the Wind with your questions and when you call customer service they are clueless. Please think twice before signing on with these thieves. 714 reviews and they can't even hit two stars. Let that sink in. Many people will not leave a review regardless of their experience. If they did I am sure there would be more than 714 negative reviews and they would still be below where a company should be.
I needed a contractor to build a deck. 4.5 STAR rating by HOMEADVISOR. The contractor came right away, set up a contract for $2200., which I gave him half $1100. Never did anything! Went to court, won, never received any money back. They use HomeAdvisor to SCAM people. Contacted HomeAdvisor who told me that they do not stand behind their advertisement. HomeAdvisor claims that they check their contractors "really". I Googled the contractor and had SCAMS of other people, including IRS, and evictions.DON"T USE HA.
HomeAdvisors referred me to many companies--most of them with poor reviews. Why would they do that? I don't get it.
Needless to say, I refused to waste my time even have most of them come give a bid. BUT there was one in the lot that was quality. And I may hire them.
On Friday, June 28,2019, a salesperson with HA told me my State appraiser License was approved. I paid the annual fee of $348 via credit card. On Monday I received a call from the same salesperson stating that they wanted me to be State Certified and that State Licensed was not going to work. She then transferred me to the refund department to explain why I wanted a refund. No refund 3 weeks later.
This company will charge you for everything, they are Angie's list too, so when you get a call for Home Advisor The tech in Angie's list got the call before you so they're doing a job while you get the call and you still have to pay for that service, what a joke never use them again
I went online, googled some landscaping companies because I need some dirt hauled to my home for a garden I am building. I found what I thought was a legit business site in my area. I submitted a request online. Quickly found out it was not the landscaping company the pretended to be, but HOME ADVISOR! I got an email from them suggesting two business. One being a home cleaning business. I got a call from one of the business they have suckered into using their services and told him exactly what happened and that I am sorry, but I don't do any business with Home Advisor in any way and I am sorry he is a victim to their con and for wasting his time. He understood and I think is equally fed up with them as well. If you own a business - DO NOT USE THEM to promote yours. If you are a home owner - DO NOT USE THEM to find companies to do your job. I don't do business with liars and cons.
They charge you an annual subscription to maintain your account and keep your listing, additionally they have two different billing schemes one for exact market match which they sale as a direct lead where they advertise a company as one of the best when in reality they are not, they feature companies with only one or two verified reviews when they have other providers with numerous positive ones which never appear. The same company the owns home advisor also owns Angie's List which double deeps, if you subscribe for a lead on Angie's List it will also push a request on Homeadvisor charging the contractor on both sites. Their leads are also incredibly expensive and range between $25 - $40 per lead.
When we were asked to sign up we were hesitant based on prior experiences, ie. Leads that were not serious or ready to have work performed. We were assured this was taken care of and no longer the case. Wanting to have faith in them we decided to try again. Still the same business practice. When you get wrong leads they do not want to give you a credit. The last example was a lead that we were given an incorrect email for contact. Our first call to the customer they hung up on us. The second call we were told not to call back. A credit for the lead was requested and denied. Upon follow up, I was told that the reason for the credit denial was that they had tried to call the client and didn't get a return call. I expressed that if they didn't get called back then that should have validated my request for credit. To be fair I was given a $15 credit, which still leaves Homeadvisor making money from me for a bad lead. Very unethical in my book.
My advice to all contractors is stay away from this company. If you look at the reviews the vast majority are not positive, that should say something. Not all of the bad reviews can be wrong.
My company has been a vendor working with Home Advisor for the last couple of years until I recently fired Home Advisor. Why might a vendor fire Home Advisor you ask?
They advertise that their service is absolutely free. This is not the case because as a vendor, my company had to pay 300-400 dollars to sign up. Then we had to pay for each lead that we received. That is far from free and people who use Home Advisor should know that it is not free as the person using the vendors on Home Advisor are footing that bill.
Secondly, Home Advisor (HA) would give me leads in towns that my company does not work in. In addition, many of the leads that we were given were not even categories within which we work. If I did not want to be charged the fees ($35.00 to $75.00 or more), I had to file a writtten complaint or call and file a complaint over the telephone. Being generous, I would say that HA would rule in their favor 75% to 85% of the time.
No one at HA has any power to correct anything. "Well, that is really not something I can help you with, etc, etc, etc." You will need to talk to Customer Service. Really? There is no customer service at HA.
If you are a vendor and thinking of signing up with HA, you better think again. Not honest people with any acceptable level of integrity as they will not even stand up and admit when they (or their company) has made a mistake.
Answer: We had a similar experience when first trying Home advisor out. They kept taking money out of our account arbitrarily. I finally had to file stop payment forms at my bank. Then they threatened us with extra fees unless we "settled" our account. We have strict DTPA laws (deceptive trade practice act) in our state. I advised we complain to our Attorney General about this. I think home advisor should be banned in our state because of this fraud.
Answer: I didn't, they have been blowing my phone up for 6 month's now and now they act like thier desperate for me to sign with them. I have absolutely no want or will i ever sign with them after i have heard what thier doing to contractors who have a contract with them. I just signed with a family owned reality company and even they told me not to sign and even when i tell home advisor i don't want thier business they ignore my request and still call and now they act like thier a home owner requesting painting but once i get to asking where they live or information all of a sudden I'm being told to do a background check and i sign up for free! But i have to pay a percentage of my leads or size of job something of that nature where i pay them for a no guarantee of work as i see it. I can't trust handing money to a company that's being deceitful in a phone call off the rip! Just be careful i don't hear good thing's about them all over now.
Answer: Fake leads, sends email, text & calls between 20-30/day and charges for each. Even if Contractor doesn't open Or answer any calls! Will rip off contractors about $800/day until they catch it and no refunds! Do Not Use HomeAdvisor!
Answer: I don't know about the house cleaners but, I do not trust the company based on my own recent experience.
Answer: You don't know you have to call home advisor and wait on the phone for an hr until they pick up
