The company exhibits a mixed reputation, with notable strengths in customer satisfaction when it comes to specific contractors and service providers, who are often praised for professionalism and quality work. However, significant concerns arise regarding the lead generation service, with numerous customers expressing frustration over poor-quality leads, lack of refunds for invalid contacts, and overwhelming solicitations. Many reviews indicate a decline in service quality following the merger with Angie's List, leading to a perception of the company as unreliable. Overall, while individual service experiences can be positive, systemic issues with lead handling and customer support remain prevalent.

OK folks, this is the way they work. The "sales person" that calls you will promise you lots of leads.
"Great!," you might think. No, it doesn't work that way in their world (despite what they tell you). The way is actually works is: They charge you for each "lead" they send you.
That means that "every" time you are sent a "lead" you are charged. It doesn't matter if the lead responds. It doesn't matter if you make a penny on the lead. It doesn't matter if the lead even exists. We received a lead that didn't even know who "Home Advisor" was. Guess what? We were still charged. It's a SCAM.
I called them to cancel. The "lady" on the phone repeated herself multiple times to try to convince me to continue the account. You may have to raise your voice to tell them "no."
If you find this comment before using them, DON'T. If you find this comment "after" signing up, well (don't be afraid to be forceful to kill the account.)
Again, this is a scam. Don't do it.
We are mid 80's and disabled. We needed a sprinkler solenoid replaced. Home Advisor sent a man out. He replaced solenoid and sprinkler worked. That should be the end. BUT he pulled out a saw and quickly sawed off a PVC pipe! Why? He said sprinkler head was cracked and needed to be replaced. (We still have the sprinkler valve and is it not cracked!)
We believed him at the time. This was a group of three and since they were so old the other two would soon be cracked and we should replace all three. He would go and get new valves and install. When he returned with 3 copper heads because he liked those Price $300, our heads were of the plastic $12 valve. I had to leave for a meeting we had to get water on the grass I reluctantly said OK. He took the check and I came home just after he left. The sprinkler system did not work. Looked in the sprinkler box and the valves were all covered in mud. He tore up some pavers and just left them laying in a pile. My wife said stop the check but he had left immediately to the bank to cash. When I complained to HA he came back and rewired the valves when I was not at home. Now one of the valves will not turn off. Did not respond--now state Contractors board and court. For a $9 solenoid and one line not working. We now out $560 + a pile of pavers to replace and one line not working. In mid 80's we have to hire it. HA says we are just a marketing agent (All guaranteed). Wait for 48 hours to see if contractor corrects--he did not. Now wait another 24 hours while we send you a form to file a complaint. Then I have to wait for a week for a specialist to contact me. I am sure will be many waits after that while my lawn dies. I asked to speak to the first person with whom I spoke and was told not one works here by that name! Probably all the names are fictitious. Appears that Stark and HA might be in collusion to scam, especially seniors.
I dont recomend home advisor to any one
The put me in debt i got home advisor thinking that i could have extra money coming in my pocket. And it was the opposite i end up owing them almost 3,000$
My sales assoc. Lied to me about fees and there method of doing so what a rip off the fees they charged me were in excess of my profit and im currently in the red because of it
Twice I requested professionals to provide estimates, once for painting my Barn, second time to pave my driveway. NOBODY CONTACTED ME.
I am over all very satisfied with Home Advisor. My husband is a General contractor and we own a remodeling business. He had back surgery around 4 months ago. We were down to starting our last job. I was scared to say the least. Long story short... He is released back to full active duty and we are as busy as we were before his back problems. I thank Home Advisor for rapid results and enough good leads to get us going strong again. The only thing I didn't care for is quite a few leads came in that were not a complete remodel or had painting cabinets and things of that nature, which we don't do small jobs like that. You can request a credit but only a certain amount. Then you will be refused. With that being said... I spent somewhere around $1500 for leads and sold somewhere around $100K in remodel jobs. So for that I am blessed and very grateful.
I employed an HVAC man from Home Advisor and he was the worst ever. He charged me too much and didn't fix my AC. I found someone else (recommended by my son) and they did a great job at less than half the price. Thumbs down times ten
Had a project involving removal of cabinets and shelves from a wall. It's clearly a handyman job. I checked the boxes and HA sent me 7 contractors, no handymen. Of course these "contractors" (some claiming "no job too small") were not interested, but all but one wouldn't admit it. I asked all of them do they actually do the work. All but one said no - they hire somebody. The other one wanted to do some totally unnecessary tearing out of the wall, despite my clear explanation of how that wall would get refinished (way easier, way less mess, way less cost). He balked, and ran.
A contractor sits at a computer and cranks out an estimate, calls up guys to do the work, and, naturally (since he tools around in a $50,000 pick up truck) wants big jobs, preferably for someone who is planning on flipping for a $100,000 profit. It was a waste of my time and a waste of their time.
I finally attacked the job myself despite my physical disability. Took less time than I or any of these guys HA sent thought it would. I saved $1200 at least.
HA is not tuned in to anything except HGTV-style mega remodels, apparently.
I signed up for home advisor and the representative told me several times we'd only be charged for "sold" leads. That was a lie, they charge $60 for EVERY lead. I called to cancel and they wanted to charge me for leads I never saw. I had to get angry and they relented. I then asked for a refund of the subscription fee, they told me I had to wait to 14-30 days! I asked to speak to a supervisor, they said no. I told the operator to refund my money or transfer me to a supervisor and he said no but I was welcome to wait on hold for several hours, then he put me on hold. I've called back several times and have waited on hold a ton. They claim to have no supervisors available to make these decisions. These people are dishonest crooks. Don't give them your money, don't support them by requesting service from their contractors. Waiting 14-30 days for a refund is ridiculous. 3-5 business days max is the most anyone should have to wait for a refund.
Made appointment for a housecleaner on a Sat.@ 1100 Paid in advance. Was the cheapest quote. Homeadvisor texted me the day before to confirm... Great... Sat at 1000 get a text... due to last minute Pro call off my appointment was rescheduled to Monday@ 11 am. Good thing my husband was off work on Monday but OK. My event is not until Tues. SO I was feeling a little uneasy when it was close to 11 am and no one had arrived. Also wasn't worried when the housekeeping "Professional" called to say she was stick in traffic but will be there in 10 mins. An hour and a half later. I had to call HomeAdvisor to be told my Professional had an emergency and couldn't make it. Were they even going to tell me? There response we hire independent contractors and if they don't show up we can only give you your money back as we don't have our own staff just independent contractors. They have flakey contractors that don't show up and the consumer has no recourse for wasting time... Leaving me with no time for me to find a replacement. Go to a real company that has their own staff if you need to get something done in a certain time frame. Or if you want to be sure you can have a real person guarantee the work.
Criminal company, They simply piss on you and your business. And when you try to talk to them they piss to your face. I traveled a lot, worked in a lot of countries, but NEVER IN MY LIFE meet such bastards.
Question to manager: why this leads is credit ineligible? We call him few days, sent tons of messages without answer.
Answer: this lead is ineligible for credit because we also can't talk with him.
Question to manager: what we pay for?
Answer: contact information.
Question: why you block our account?
Answer: In conversation with manager you told that you probably want to close account.
Facepalm!
Burn in hell bastards
HomeAdvisor posted the following five (5) star review using my name -
"Project: Install or Replace an Asphalt Shingle Roof
They worked with my insurance and helped me to get my roof replacement covered. They worked fast and were professional. They actually upgraded my roof and gave me a great warranty along with it. My experience with them is one of the best experiences I have had with a contractor. It was easy, fast and everything looks great. They paid close attention to detail and everyone cleaned up very well after everything was completed."
The problem? I did NOT write the review. Five stars for a professional' whose idea of unloading sheeting is to raise the front of the trailer and slamming dozens of 4 x 8 boards into our garage door?
Conclusions: HomeAdvisor does NOT verify reviews!
Any 5 star review of a 'pro' posted on/by HomeAdvisor is most likely a fraud!
Homeadvisor is a money-hungry company with no morals. The value that my company has received has been very little, and yet homeadvisor feels it necessary to charge $1,000-$2,000 per month. Half of the "leads" i receive, if not more, are BS and I am not able to communicate with the "customer" at all. Homeadvisor says that they will compensate you for bad leads, however, when you call them to request a credit they deny the request and charge you anyways. I once had a "lead" tell me to put them on the do not call list, so I called homeadvisor and their representative said "This is not a bad lead so we will not refund your money. That is the name of the game, if the customer is not ready to talk to you then it is not our fault."
I have never been more unsatisfied by a company, Homeadvisor is the worst of the worst.
Doug Raabes from Full House Handyman Inc located in Montgomery, NY is responsible for chipping my new refinished tub. He is careless and unprofessional! He definitely overcharged!
I used HomeAdvisor for first time. Need a simple electrical repair to change a light outlet. App recommended a company and I scheduled an appointment which was said to be available according to app. The company called and said they had no availability that day or the next. The company said they did their own scheduling and could not accommodate my needs. Either the app or the company is misrepresenting the appointments that are offered on the site. This will be my once and only time I use this app unless someone has a better explanation.
I had a bad experience with a contractor referred by homeadvisor.com. A landscaper who made an appointment for a quote, but never showed up or contacted me again. I found that I was not allowed by homeadvisor to leave a review which would be posted because the contractor was not "hired" by me. They would only share my review with the specific contractor in order to improve his business practice. Being able to leave a review of a hired contractor is important, but there may be many valid reasons the contractor was never hired.
What is even the point of this site? They send your project out to all these "pros" and none of them reply. So, then you modify your request and try again - and maybe someone will reply once but never again. Try changing your name from a male to female sounding name and then you'll get a bunch more replies (gross but true - I heard this in another article & tried it - it IS true) - however even that still leaves you with unreliable people who do not come through. Why are there commercials for this crappy site on TV nonstop? It is literally the WORST possible recommendation site - just use Yelp!
This website pops up when you ask for someone to do home repairs. Not satisfied at all.One company comes gives estimate and never comes back. Another comes when they want and doesn't do everything their asked to do. Just wants to make enough $ for the week end.And another job I had to have done guess there's lazy landscapers in this area put in for one Monday no call back yet. 4 days later.
When I called Home Advisor to report the fact I had some jewelry stolen from their recommendation, I was "advised" to "report it to the police".
I said "I can get someone off the street corner with the same result."
I highly DO NOT recommend them... for your own safety.
P.s. The house cleaner had ruined another person's tiles and stole hundreds of dollars of coins... do you know, when is just checked to see, THIS person was STILL BEING RECOMMENDED...
I give them 5 star rating Work was fast and professional. I will use them again. They added Gutters. And cleaned out them.
Answer: We had a similar experience when first trying Home advisor out. They kept taking money out of our account arbitrarily. I finally had to file stop payment forms at my bank. Then they threatened us with extra fees unless we "settled" our account. We have strict DTPA laws (deceptive trade practice act) in our state. I advised we complain to our Attorney General about this. I think home advisor should be banned in our state because of this fraud.
Answer: I didn't, they have been blowing my phone up for 6 month's now and now they act like thier desperate for me to sign with them. I have absolutely no want or will i ever sign with them after i have heard what thier doing to contractors who have a contract with them. I just signed with a family owned reality company and even they told me not to sign and even when i tell home advisor i don't want thier business they ignore my request and still call and now they act like thier a home owner requesting painting but once i get to asking where they live or information all of a sudden I'm being told to do a background check and i sign up for free! But i have to pay a percentage of my leads or size of job something of that nature where i pay them for a no guarantee of work as i see it. I can't trust handing money to a company that's being deceitful in a phone call off the rip! Just be careful i don't hear good thing's about them all over now.
Answer: Fake leads, sends email, text & calls between 20-30/day and charges for each. Even if Contractor doesn't open Or answer any calls! Will rip off contractors about $800/day until they catch it and no refunds! Do Not Use HomeAdvisor!
Answer: I don't know about the house cleaners but, I do not trust the company based on my own recent experience.
Answer: You don't know you have to call home advisor and wait on the phone for an hr until they pick up
