HomeAdvisor (Powered by Angi) Reviews Summary

The company exhibits a mixed reputation, with notable strengths in customer satisfaction when it comes to specific contractors and service providers, who are often praised for professionalism and quality work. However, significant concerns arise regarding the lead generation service, with numerous customers expressing frustration over poor-quality leads, lack of refunds for invalid contacts, and overwhelming solicitations. Many reviews indicate a decline in service quality following the merger with Angie's List, leading to a perception of the company as unreliable. Overall, while individual service experiences can be positive, systemic issues with lead handling and customer support remain prevalent.

Con Company
November 12, 2019

Last year they wanted me to join... I hesitated for a month.
Okay, I signed up and gave them $285 and they were supposed to give me leads.
I am a General Building Contractor for over 40 years... and I thought maybe a new idea to use this company as the Marketing Firm... to help my company with leads.
Seems that the leads were 2 hours away from my office... no way was I going to drive this far... out of my area.
I said what about the leads... so then they charged me an over the board fee for leads out of my area...
Originally the leads were supposed to be $65-70 per lead... then they charged me $130 for a lead... no way again.
I called again to their office and the woman of whom signed me up... well they would not let me talk to her... she is only the sales person of whom lies more.
I rejected all their B. S. and asked for my money back... but they said it has been a month.
What it has been 3 weeks with no leads and more money spent... I went to my bank and asked for my money back. In 3 weeks all was okay and my money was returned.
Please do not sign up with this company... bad news for Contractors.

I requested a house keeper for a monthly visit and scheduled a day and time 3 weeks in advance. Every day the week of the appointment I received a text message reminding me of my appointment at 1 pm on the day that I requested.
I took a few hours off work on that day to be there to let the housekeeper in, and 9 minutes before the appointment I received a text message and email stating that Home Advisor was re-scheduling my appointment because a professional was not available to
Clean my house. I had already pre-paid for the cleaning ad was expecting this to be done for a party the following day.
Totally unprofessional. It took 3 emails and a phone call to cancel the contract and receive a refund of he money paid. I will never use Home Advisor again, and will let everyone I know of their poor service.

I made appointment for a locksmith for a Monday since i am off that day i prepaid the full amount of service so i could make sure someone would be there that day. Instead i get a text say ing due to a pro call off that they were going to set it for the next day one sending me a text was rude someone should have called me they did not! Folks to me this was unacceptable i paid ahead of time for the service ahead of time for that Monday thats what i should get. I did this i am not off the rest of the week so it would be ext Monday before o could have them come again. I did text this back and let them know got no response. I email them with all the same info i put here i got email back saying the same thing the text said again it show they really did not listen. So i called them and at first the Agent said said the same after i explain the whole again over the phone i ask for a supervisor had to wait 20 mins to him he said he was going to call around to try get a another person to come still waiting on call said they would call in a few hrs i stress that i expect service that day if not then i expect service asap for for free or at least half cost since there guarantee would mean a whole lot. I am most upset about sending a text rather than calling me when and if i get service will update or if have to get a refund and go somewhere else i will update on that to for now i would not use there new guarantee service it is a totally does not work and is a lie

Homeadvisor took my money and then several times scheduled work and then two hours before the work was to start cancelled and rescheduled it. Obviously, they never had any commitment from anyone to do the work but were happy to have my money and mess up all my plans. Terrible! Will never use it again.

I am highly disappointed in the lack of service I have received from Home Advisor. I was supposed to have leaves removed from my front and back yard last Monday, 11/4. It is now Friday, 11/8, and the job that was supposed to take 2 hours is still not complete. Home Advisor has sent 3 different contractors who have failed to complete the job. Today the 4th contractor was supposed to come to finish the job and didn't show up. I have wasted hours on the phone this week being transferred, put on hold, told I would received calls back that never were, and been given assurances that the job would be complete. I have asked numerous times for their corporate office's direct line and email but was refused. All I am asking is for the job to be completed, but for some unknown reason this still hasn't happened. Does anyone at Home Advisor care about customer service. Obviously not.

As a contractor I have been contacted by Home Adviser sales reps on multiple occasions. Normally I've been to busy, and not looking for more work, but decided to take a minute to hear out one of the Reps about leads. The rep from H.Ad. Continued to call and pressure me to respond to jobs they had been emailing me, even though I explained I wasn't interested in any of the smaller leads they were pushing my way.

The rep continued to call, and was increasingly rude and tried to high pressure me to take their low quality leads... until I finally informed them to remove me from any and all contact lists.

Finest Buiilders
November 7, 2019

We were treated rudely and unprofessionally when we gave a courtesy call to inform him that we chose another vendor. When he asked "why" we were honest and said cost and he proceeded to expect that we discuss what the cost was with him. After declining to discuss our business and decision any further with him, he became rude and hung up the phone.

This company should be put out of business not just for lying to contractors, charging for things they shouldn't have, also after being told to stop calling dozens of times each year, they forcefully and aggressively continue to call, joke around and some harass. This used to be service magic they had to change their name after their reputation Went below grade. In contractor world they are know as scamers and deceitful organization.

Upon calling home advisor for a pressure cleaning service of drive way patio and the roof. Fantastic roofing LLC called immediately. Showing five stars... I gave him the contract to clean immediately thinking that home advisor recommendation and five stars are enough for me. Andre, the owner spoke to me and when I reached home after work and after service day 11-4-2019... the pavers were still with black spots... tried to call him he hung up on me twice... since then trying to reach home advisor customer service no response... rather they will send you more vendors to clean your house... my first ever experience and a very bad one...

I received a list of possible companies. They either didn't call or when they did they didn't do what I specifically said I needed. Rather than waste time with this company, I would advise using a simple google search.

I used to use this group a lot. But based on recent changes to their corporation, I have had to stop, fast. I attempted to hire a cleaning service on a case by case appointment basis. I didn't get anyone to respond, so I found one on my own. Later, they sent me "pro's" and set up an "auto appointment" when my online request said I could like to meet for an estimate. Well no one showed up then, and their auto system set up a new appointment, which was at a time I was not there. Then, HomeAdvisor started charging me for services at the house when my tenants were not home, and I was not present. They charged my credit card repeatedly with abandon, despite the fact that I never met with anyone about moving forward AND I already had a service I found on my own. I didn't receive a receipt for anything, just texts from a source that was unrecognizable to me, which I of course ignored, as I had not agreed to anything. I had to call several times to threaten them, and received a refund, but I certainly will never trust them again with any of my information. Sad to see this as it used to be a pretty good referral source.

I made an appointment with HA for dryer vent service. Had the appointment all set up, with text and email confirmation, but the service person never showed up. Called the two numbers that they gave me and neither one was real. Got in touch with HA and all they told me was to write a review. Lot of good that does. I told them that the company doesn't exist and they didn't care, just kept saying to give it a review. So, I go to give a review and the company doesn't show up at all. Don't ever use HA

Don't bother
November 3, 2019

We got the name of a contractor from Home Advisor, within a year seams on the ceiling were opening up again, the contractor was no longer in their list of contractors and basically were told they couldnt help us. So WHY use them. If they sent someone else to help fix the problem we would be happy, instead they gave us the telephone number to better business... what a JOKE

What a bunch of MORONS
November 2, 2019

Miller HVAC on 79th street, Chicago, couldn't find their own a** with both hands, a flashlight and friggin' GPS. They LIED and said we needed a new boiler. Apparently to scam us out of the money. Because I had someone, a friend who KNOWS his butt from a hole in the ground get it going and it worked fine. Was NOT my idea to buy a new boiler if the old one worked!

Any other company WOULD NOT have wandered off with the job NOT FINISHED. And maybe PICK UP THE PHONE after you SCREW UP ROYALLY and go FIX IT?

They put a NEW boiler on a NEW SLAB, and within one week, it doesn't work! After throwing a HUGE AMOUNT of condensation on EVERYTHING in the basement.

This is after the boiler SAT in our yard for 2 or 3 full days. New boiler, obviously not installed right.

Contract said 2 days to do it. BALONEY. That was JUST boiler-sitting-in-yard time.

12 DAYS without RELIABLE HEAT. THAT'S what these idiots get you. And condensation-ruined items.

I'd have been better off with anyone you've heard of for more money but HEAT.

My attorney will contact them shortly.

I literally have nothing decent to say here. Our entire experience was atrocious. Where to start... 1st all leads are completely unvetted. In our experience, they are mostly tire kickers unless of course you are willing to do the work for half of what its worth.
2nd issue is that leads are not exlcusive, so the same lead is dangled in front of many contractors. So it is a mad rush to bombard the enduser with correspondence (which cant be pleasant for the enduser either). To benefit from Home Advisor would actually cost you money, because you need to hire someone to monitor it constantly so that you can be the first to respond to an customer request. If you wait 3 minutes, that customer may have been contacted 3 times or more... good luck.
Then thers the referral fees. It seems noone from home advisor reviews leads or lead classifications before they are sent out. Why you ask? Because thats apparently your job, after paying handsomely for the crappy lead. So that same person you hired to respond quickly to leads has to constantly call into home advisor to request credits or re-classify a lead... Total waste of time.
I am being slightly un fair and not giving proper credit to home advisor, though. They actually do 1 thing great and thats give you plenty of attention when you inevitably call to cancel. They are incredibly persistent and are qui k to tell you that YOU are the problem with why things aren't working out and what YOU should do to fix their issues.
Home Advisor is our biggest buisiness mistake we've made in our 9 years of business. PLEASE save yourselves from this nightmare and do not give this company a dime! They deserve to fail! You work too hard for your money to hand it over to these guys!
