The company exhibits a mixed reputation, with notable strengths in customer satisfaction when it comes to specific contractors and service providers, who are often praised for professionalism and quality work. However, significant concerns arise regarding the lead generation service, with numerous customers expressing frustration over poor-quality leads, lack of refunds for invalid contacts, and overwhelming solicitations. Many reviews indicate a decline in service quality following the merger with Angie's List, leading to a perception of the company as unreliable. Overall, while individual service experiences can be positive, systemic issues with lead handling and customer support remain prevalent.

Home Advisor is a complete rip off to the contractors. They charge fees for every lead, 99.9% of them are of no value. I paid them thousands and not one lead turned into a job. Most are bargain shoppers that cannot afford to hire a contractor or it is a someone looking to buy a home that needs work and wanting a source for a free estimate before they even purchase the home or if they even will purchase but the contractor is being charged.
Craig from Home Advisor called me wanting me to sign up. He repeatedly called stating that he would do everything to help my small business grow. Well that was an absolute lie. I finally gave in after the 4th call (I know I shouldn't have) He would never call me back, sent me leads in areas I didn't want and not in my field which is Design. He said the leads would only be up to $59. As soon as I signed up, my first lead was for $149 and for commercial design which I'm not. When I called to try and get help, he was suddenly unavailable, I asked for his manager which did not call either. I asked for Customer Service and got a lady that gave me the run around. I asked for her manager which was busy and would call me back. I had put the initial fee on my AMEX, they credited me back for it. Now Home Advisor is sending me to a third party collection agency; ironically, the same day Amex got the money reversed in my favor. This company is awful. I had someone from Home Advisor call me last month to find out if I would not cancel and give them another try! Really? He would talk with his advisor and see what he could do. Of course, no call backs. Stay away from this Scam Company.
I read all the reviews below and agree 150%! These guys are a joke! They take your money and never deliver. We were getting leads out of state! Got one lead 4 times! Was charged 4 times! AND the lead was bogus! DON'T DO NOT EVER USE THESE GUYS! We are trying to get our credit refunded but they don't do that of course. Call the card company, let them deal with guys. No way to do business.
Adam Corolla should drop this company like a hot cake. He is the spokesman for an organization that has essentially established a sales and marketing machine designed specifically to rape the everyday hardworking contractor. I used the service sparingly. More time was spent fighting with their agents then benefitting from any of the "services" that they provide. I bailed when their app released a string of old leads that I could not follow up on -essentially they stole 500.00 from me. Bottom line: the "leads" are not qualified; the leads are expensive; lead flow management is a game and you are guaranteed the loser; your phone will be spammed by their marketing texts; their agents are adversaries not customer service reps; you will not get your money back... ever... they made that very clear the last time I spoke with them on the phone. Also, they own Angie's list now so avoid that service as well.
I was need 2 tree stumps removing. Booking ID: *******. I paid on front and scheduled an appointment.
They rescheduled it 3 times 2 hours before the scheduled time. On the 3rd time they just made refund of my money. On the end I got 3 days loosing my work days, time, nervous and job wasn't done. Trying to speak with Customer Service - no wishing to help and solve the problem. Will never use this "service" again. Definitely not recommended.
I asked for a comparison job, but they immediately quoted one price. Then they wanted my card number. I couldn't bypass the demand for my card info. I entered 'Christmas' lights and they changed it to 'holiday' lights over and over. I had to call to ask why no comparison quotes. Plus, I complained about the word Christmas changed to holiday. The operator still called it holiday. She said that's want it's called. I told her so is the 4th of July. She also said I had to call first to get more quotes. I responded it isn't right to demand my credit/debit card info for a set price FIRST before letting me choose the price I wanted to pay for a service. Another operator called me afterwards and was nice but I explained I wanted to see my choices online instead of multiple people calling for their business.

Absolute waste of time and money these are scam artists save your money. I would have been better off having my kids make me posters posting them in the neighborhood I would have got more business from doing that, somebody should shut these people down there ripping people off and then they threaten you with their collection agencies
Signed up for Home Advisor after numerous high pressure sales calls. Immediately disabled the leads generation however before i could do this they were able to get 4-5 leads over to us charging us like 200 bucks which is purely arbitrary. You can only disable the leads for like 2 weeks at a time and again immediatley the day it expires they start flooding our emails and phones with leads. Cha ching another 350 bucks.
Their leads arent even vetted and most are bull$#*! leads we found out and believe these are generated internally. This company needs to be investigated as they are defnatley not honest and dont give a damn about the contractors or the customers.
Do not sign up for home advisor!
I am a contractor with 31 outstanding reviews. I started being flooded with worthless leads approximately 1 year ago. I keep putting the leads on hold for a 2 week period and they keep taking money out of my account. Now I am getting leads from Angie's List because the companies have merged. They stink! They are thieves.
They take money they shouldn't, takes an hour on the phone to talk to anybody! Canceled service and they still charged my account and then make it impossible to talk to anyone to get it taken care of!
When I signed up with them I was told that they will give a lead to 3 contractors and basically you have to sell yourself or services and wish for the best which I was ok with. I later found out thru customers that they were getting called from 7 to 10 contractors. So what that means is considering they charge each contractor $35 to $100 a lead they are tripling down but the contractor is getting screwed. Never mind the fact if you don't call right away the customer is sick of all the calls so you don't get anywhere with them. Another issue is I was a top rated contractor for 3 years with them had nearly a 5 rating with 90 reviews then came a day I had a wacko customer who had a problem which I fixed and they wanted to arbitrate a refund so they pursued you to use their arbitrator instead of going to court then side with the customer at your expense. I couldn't believe how I was treated when this customer complained... they actually froze my account until I rectified the issue and when I did the customer still proceeded and was awarded all the money. The customer lied and then was told by the arbitrator that if they got estimates for a replacement it would help there case... What the heck... THIS IS A JOKE FROM ALL ASPECTS... As like most other contractors state... most of the people don't hire you anyway because they are looking for the cheapest... sadly you can't leave a google review probably because they pay a lot of money so it can't happen. Hopefully contractors will see it here.
Another issue is... I was asked upon signing up if I had insurance and license... so thru the years I would tell customers that needed other services to use them because they made it sound as tho they vetted the contractors to insure the home owner they received pros and were protected. I later came across a home owner that had a terrible experience and found out that the contractor wasn't insured... so they lied again...
We are spending $5000. 00 a month for leads that are no good. We called and spoke with a manager Eric. He was a complete joke and the would not refund money. This company is a complete and total rip off. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY, they will suck your company dry.
I am a professional business owner in computer services. I am very frustrated with the HomeAdvisor lead system. Many times, I have responded promptly to a lead and either been unable to contact the customer OR the customer was not asking for the correct service. I get charged many times for bad leads which I should not be charged for. HomeAdvisor is very poor at granting credit for bad leads. For these reasons, I will be not be renewing my contract with HomeAdvisor when it comes due again.
If you ever need any work done by a contractor or handy man, DO NOT USE HOME ADVISORS. I scheduled someone to come out and put up holiday lights on the top and gutter edge of my roof. I even spoke to the contractor 3 days ago and told him I have a two story house and want lights along the top of the roof and sides of roof and gutter edge of roof and garage. He did not come prepared with a ladder to complete the job. He acted as if he was scared to climb. I have a two story colonial so its not a huge mansion!
Never deal with this company. They will withdraw all the money from your card, and it will not matter which leads they sent to you, for example, for which you will never get through, but the money will still be withdrawn. Talking with them is useless. They do not want a long-term business relationship, they want fast money. You will only have one option left, ask your bank to return this money. Do not make this mistake.
Never ever! They charge you for nothing and when you call to cancel your damn account they say that you owe lots of money. Donkeys
DO NOT even think about buying. I invested 300 hundred, no sooner I was not ready to take leads. Matt siad he would hold off and help me set up a add. Big joke. They start sending me leads from 90 miles from business and charging large for the leads. The one from my office was not even real and I called no such person. But they charged me 46 dollars. I tryed to get out and sorry they kept my money. TOTAL Rip off. Once they get your money they will not work with you. I have 31 years of business and got cheated big time.
I hired a painter with positive reviews on Home Adviser thinking he had been vetted by other homeowners. The contractor showed up late every day - including for the estimate - tore a large hole in my wall while "repairing" a crack, and then demanded more money because the room was "deceptively" dark with the blinds closed when he gave his estimate. The room has no blinds, most if not all of the curtains were open, and the eight wall sconce lights and an additional lamp were on at the time he gave the estimate. The ultimate paint job was fair at best. He made a mess of my hardwood floor, with whatever substance he used to repair cracks left smeared on the floor and in between the boards. We spent hours on our hands and knees cleaning between the floor boards with thin blades, then steam cleaning and applying several coats of polish to restore the floor to a tolerable condition. I could go on, but the point I want to make is that when I wrote a lengthy negative review of this contractor on Home Adviser it was never published. That explained the contractor's other glowing reviews, which I have to believe were fake, and his 4-5 star rating. Home Adviser obviously doesn't allow negative reviews to be posted. There may be actual good contractors on the web site, but I will never know because there's absolutely no way I would ever trust a contractor from this web site.
Three times I tried to use this site. First time was to repair windows. My phone number was given out to several tele-marketing firm. All contractors that contacted me wanted to upsale windows, not repair a broken one. Second time i requested help building a shed. Again my number was given to telemarketers and i received two contractors that were on the BBB list for poor contractors. The third time I need help with a flagstone. Both contractors did not show. All this site does is gather your personal data to sell to telemarketers,,, BEWARE
Answer: We had a similar experience when first trying Home advisor out. They kept taking money out of our account arbitrarily. I finally had to file stop payment forms at my bank. Then they threatened us with extra fees unless we "settled" our account. We have strict DTPA laws (deceptive trade practice act) in our state. I advised we complain to our Attorney General about this. I think home advisor should be banned in our state because of this fraud.
Answer: I didn't, they have been blowing my phone up for 6 month's now and now they act like thier desperate for me to sign with them. I have absolutely no want or will i ever sign with them after i have heard what thier doing to contractors who have a contract with them. I just signed with a family owned reality company and even they told me not to sign and even when i tell home advisor i don't want thier business they ignore my request and still call and now they act like thier a home owner requesting painting but once i get to asking where they live or information all of a sudden I'm being told to do a background check and i sign up for free! But i have to pay a percentage of my leads or size of job something of that nature where i pay them for a no guarantee of work as i see it. I can't trust handing money to a company that's being deceitful in a phone call off the rip! Just be careful i don't hear good thing's about them all over now.
Answer: Fake leads, sends email, text & calls between 20-30/day and charges for each. Even if Contractor doesn't open Or answer any calls! Will rip off contractors about $800/day until they catch it and no refunds! Do Not Use HomeAdvisor!
Answer: I don't know about the house cleaners but, I do not trust the company based on my own recent experience.
Answer: You don't know you have to call home advisor and wait on the phone for an hr until they pick up
