HomeAdvisor (Powered by Angi) Reviews Summary

The company exhibits a mixed reputation, with notable strengths in customer satisfaction when it comes to specific contractors and service providers, who are often praised for professionalism and quality work. However, significant concerns arise regarding the lead generation service, with numerous customers expressing frustration over poor-quality leads, lack of refunds for invalid contacts, and overwhelming solicitations. Many reviews indicate a decline in service quality following the merger with Angie's List, leading to a perception of the company as unreliable. Overall, while individual service experiences can be positive, systemic issues with lead handling and customer support remain prevalent.

We are a renovation company that have used HomeAdvisor off and on for several years. Once you set up an account with HomeAdvisor, they make it very difficult to cancel your account. You have to pause your account if you do not want to receive leads and they only allow you to pause your account for up to 2 weeks at a time. The account automatically turns on after the pause date and they start sending you bogus leads again, which are ridiculously priced around $125 per lead. We had our account paused and they sent us $1900 in leads. We called regarding the leads we should have never received and they claimed it was a mistake. They won't credit the money back to your credit card once they charge you, instead they credit you for more bogus leads. This company is very corrupt and should be out of business considering they are ripping contractors off everyday and sending consumers non qualified and unverified contractor who in turn rip off the consumer. Our government needs to shut this corrupt company down immediately and convict the criminals running this crooked company!

If you are a contractor, do not do any business with Homeadvisor! They charge top, top, top dollears for the leads that they send you which can add up to easily $1000. 00 per month. Remember, you need to receive alot of leads... just to land one job, and that one job that you do land was also sent to several other Homeadvisor contractors as well; because Homeadvisor sends the same leads to several other contractors, as well as to you, you will all be bidding against each other; lowest bidder wins the job. Also, there is a 50% chance that any lead that is sent to you will be from a "phantom"; no answer. Ever, no call back, and no one ever home. But you will still be charged as much as $100.00 or more for that lead. Is it any wonder that Homeadvisor is begging for new contractors since the one's that have used Homeadvisor in the past are leaving in droves?

I logged onto Home Advisor 6 days ago. I requested a quote for my gutters to be cleaned. I clearly stated what I wanted, the size, and height of my house. I have received 37 calls in the past 6 days from various "gutter" businesses. Some of the calls are repeated calls from a business. I actually thought I would get a price estimate on the site or by email. I do understand they may have to look at the house and gutters before giving me an exact price. But I had no idea that I would be getting 37 calls in 6 days. Some of them let messages that said something similar to "call us back to set up an inspection." I do not want in inspection! I just want my gutters cleaned! This is ridiculous. I even deleted my profile on Home Advisor, but I know these people now have my phone number so they can continue to call.

I am now on Day 2 of a Pro No Show. This is the most frustrating experience. I have company coming this weekend and due to my work schedule, I do not have time to clean myself. I was hoping to set up a Monthly Cleaning. DO NOT CHOOSE THIS COMPANY. It is important to trust that a job will be completed on the day set up. I wanted to choose NO Stars, but the Review wouldn't send without at least 1 Star.

Avoid Like the Plague
January 8, 2020

We requested a repair estimate from a HomeAdvisor recommended roofing company, Fiddlers Roofing. We later provided HomeAdvisor a review informing them that we received no response to two requests for their estimate and that the roofing rep that did the inspection claimed that our insurance would pay for a new roof since it was over 10 years old, whether or not it had storm damage, and that we would not even pay a deductible. We advised him that this was not the case and he said that he was told to say this.

HomeAdvisor did not post the review or contact us.

Promoting Scammers
January 7, 2020

Home Advisor recommended a contractor to us for a $650,000 job. That contractor (Villa Nova Builders and Mitch Blinco) did an abysmally poor job and took twice as long as proposed. We now have a lawsuit against the contractor to recover the almost $200,000 that they owe us for items we paid for that were either never started or were done so incredibly bad that we had to hire anither contractor to redo them. After we posted our review on Home Advisor, the contractor had 6 friends write glowing reviews that Home Advisor claims are "verified" and they now have a misleading 4.3 rating. I have reached out to Home Advisor to no avail. As far as we know, they are still recommending this awful contractor to other victims.

Horrible website
January 7, 2020

This is a scam app people who willing to grow up in the business never should not use homeadvisor. The costumer services sucks and sales managers, they send u a lead and 20 people around you will get the same lead as you and if u call the # of the lead no one answer that phone, never got something scheduled with a costumer. It's a scam they send fake lead so they can sell the same lead to 20 people and all have to pay for it and no one gets the job. I would never recommend this app to anyone

Absolute Joke!
January 6, 2020

If I could give less than 1 start, I would. I hired a "painter" to take care of some chipping and peeling paint. He showed up at the property late, looking like he had a late night and wearing the same clothes he went out to the bar in (not what I would expect a painter to wear). He quit after 3 hours because he had to run to Home Depot to pick up more rollers. He left his drop cloth and other materials behind and never came back. He hasn't been heard from since. This is the second time I've hired what I thought would be a vetted contractor from Home Advisor and twice been highly disappointed. I will never use this company again and certainly won't recommend to anyone! Stay clear!

Be Careful
January 4, 2020

Be careful when using the web service HomeAdvisor.com. If you use this site once to gain information on homes for sale, you will later find yourself enrolled in a "service" provided by someone called "propertyrecord.com." Then you will be billed $18.95 every month afterward. When seeking information on a house for sale, I gave HomeAdvisor's site what I thought was a pretty thorough scrutiny, and found no mention of enrollment in a "service." On receiving a second and third charge for $18.95, I figured I was being taken; I could only clear it up by phoning propertyrecord and asking for my "service" to be canceled. I am leery of returning to the HomeAdvisor site to try to find any small print I overlooked, so I cannot make this a more detailed warning. Still, be careful.

They made me give up all my contact information and agree to get marketed to just to find out that they had no one to help me in my area. Now they will take my contact info And sell it and make money even though they offered no value to me what so ever. THIS IS A BAIT AND SWITCH OPERATION STAY AWAY!

HOMEADVISOR IS A SCAM
January 4, 2020

HomeAdvisor employees are writing fake reviews. Any positive reviews HomeAdvisor has on Google or on ConsumerAffairs are fake. In fact, HomeAdvisor is paying big money to Google LLC and ConsumerAffairs. They are paying very big money to ConsumerAffairs to censor all their bad reviews and replace the bad reviews with fake good ones. HUGE CORRUPTION! Go to BBB or ResellerRatings if you want a more accurate picture of the reviews of HomeAdvisor (they are overwhelmingly negative). Beware, HomeAdvisor is a totally fraudulent scam company!

No call no show
January 4, 2020

I contacted homeadvisor in search of a plumbing contractor, who never showed or called. In the past I contacted homeadvisor for a chimney sweep. He showed up never went on the roof, come in and showed me pictures of someone else's home and swore he went on the roof. I watched him the whole time, he never got out his truck. Then tried to sell me a insert and never cleaned out the chimney. The last one was a contractor for a deck, never showed and gave me a estimate without coming over to anything. I suggest you never use homeadvisor, I don't know how they screen these contractor's, but they really need to do a much better job. Homeadvisor is worthless. If I could give a lower rating then zero I would. Maybe a -6

Harrassment
January 3, 2020

I decided to peek at Home Adviser website thinking it might be a way to find reputable help. As a consumer, I want to be able to research, review information and choose/decide when to approach a company. Home Adviser blew up my phone and email for a full 48 hours once they got my information. They were constantly harassing me when i never asked for it. I had to UNSUBSCRIBE several times. It was if the website is designed to book companies to come out and/or contact me without my permission. I never asked for that to happen. I was only checking it out. I immediately felt overwhelmed and not in a good way. Any company or salesperson who tries that hard to control, manipulate and oversell a customer is not a reputable company in my opinion. Beware of what they will do.

Arranged for housecleaning service on an ongoing basis and contractor failed to show for first appointment. Rescheduled and got the same no-show. Should have known better, but rescheduled one more time and guess what, much time spent waiting and no one appeared despite many assurances and excuses.

Do Not Recommend
January 3, 2020

The company I work for signed up in May 2019 and have had issue after issue with them. We wanted a basic listing with NO leads and were told we could have that - but that is not true. You can actually pause leads but they come back on in 2 weeks and usually at 2-3am and they have 'found' new leads for you before you can get there to pause again! So even if not accepting leads on regular basis it can end up costing you couple hundred a month - and if you forget to pause for a couple days, it can really hurt your budget! Plus our normal marketing spend is under $4 per job (actual jobs) so that $18-30 spend per REFERRAL is way too much for any business.

I can see a new business being ruined with this scheme! I had to keep calling and complaining (won't use that 'b' word) to finally get it cancelled out - then 2 months later a computer glitch restarted the acct! It is finally over - altho the stress of dealing with them still lingers.

Cannot warn you away fast enough!
There are so many others ways to get leads at much less money and much higher ROI.

Dont do it
January 3, 2020

They called and said they needed plumbers in the area that there are none and 9 out of 10 leads I got where taken by other plumbers in the area when there wasnt supposed to be any other plumbers. Pausing leads is bull crap and if you are unable to re pause the leads and you get leads you cant get a refund. I lost money working with these people.

We were contacted by Home Advisor asking if we would help them out in our area, their statement was they couldn't find contractors in the area to supply for their clients demands. We are a local based outfit that takes pride in helping our community. Within in less than a 30 day time frame their leads seemed to be overwhming over 90% of the leads wouldn't return calls or would come back replying they already hired someone. I was just contacted again by their establishment and was told we owe them over 10k for 3 weeks of being on their site. Now yes they do background checks on us, which shows our integrity and devotion to our clients! But however they are taking advantage of the contractors that work day in out to keep a good name! Please read the other reviews from the other pros before you donate a fee to create a financial loss for yourself!

As a contractor, using Home Advisor for leads is somewhat of a necessary evil. Leads are over $100 and I'd say 75% of the leads we get are fake. Fake in the way that the emails bounce back as invalid, we can never reach a homeowner over the phone, and the company basically has a no refund policy on leads. I live by the corporate office in Golden, CO and I see the salesman at the liquor store mid-day drunk all of the time. The liquor store clerk says they are a rowdy bunch and drink all day. No wonder customer service and the leads are so terrible.

Every time I've used HomeAdvisor, the company has either been a no-show or not called back.

It's been a complete waste of time and seems more like coming from HomeAdvisor is viewed as worthless since it's consistent

Google is a far better resource!
