The company exhibits a mixed reputation, with notable strengths in customer satisfaction when it comes to specific contractors and service providers, who are often praised for professionalism and quality work. However, significant concerns arise regarding the lead generation service, with numerous customers expressing frustration over poor-quality leads, lack of refunds for invalid contacts, and overwhelming solicitations. Many reviews indicate a decline in service quality following the merger with Angie's List, leading to a perception of the company as unreliable. Overall, while individual service experiences can be positive, systemic issues with lead handling and customer support remain prevalent.

I contracted for a "pro" to trim my 2 citrus trees. They sent a man without the proper equiptment and no truck to haul away the branches he trimmed. My 2 trees are completely butchered. I'm not sure they will recover. He left all the cuttings, telling me my gardener could clean it up... Seriously?! Home advisor then gave me a credit to pay for most of the fee to clean up the mess. The man they sent rescheduled the first appointment and was almost an hour late for the second one. When he came he was driving a short bed truck and claimed he had made 3 trips to empty the truck bed then said he couldn't do more because he was losing money. I still have all the trimmings from the second tree in my yard. I'm a 73 year old widow and if I had a truck, I'd do it myself, but I don't. The man that contracted this job was told it would all be in trash bags and Home Advicors knew that wasn't true. The villain in this is Home Advisor. They lie to both the customer and contractors. Don't hire through them if you want a decent job done.
They are complete crap. You get charged for leads are not even a true lead. You basically being charged for speaking to voice mails. Complete waste of money. You ur looking for your money to just disappear sign up. If you want to be a successful company tell them no and find other ways to advertise
This company is nothing but a scam. I just started my window treatment business in South Florida and they really gave me a song and dance and told me to get ready for all the leads that will start coming in and to make sure I answer them. My origional sales guy Angel is no longer there and is all fraud

They just help you go out of business. I was told the avaerage lead was $25.00 but was actuall double and the most criminal part is once you click on the lead you get billed as you don't know how much the lead will be untill you click on lead. 99% of leads dis not even pertain to my offerings
Plausible deniability is the standard. Make money at all costs is the way. THAT is HomeAdvisor, need a company that understands customer care to replace them.
This company sends you leads that most of the time the homeowner doesn't even know they are requesting a quote! The issue I have is having to constantly fight them for credit. I have had one declined for credit today where the lady I tried to contact sent me a text back angry that I called her in the first place! She stated in her text "I was only looking for a list of contractors, NOT TO BE CALLED!" (caps were from her) Tried to get a credit for an obvious bad lead and was declined! The only reason I keep this service is so potential customers can see my reviews. I have lowered my monthly budget as low as I can go.
****WARNING****
WASTE OF TIME, MOST OF YOUR MONEY WILL GO TO BOGUS LEADS, 80% DON'T EVEN ANSWER THE PHONE OR RETURN YOUR CALLS, THEY'RE ALREADY DOING THE JOB WHEN YOU JUST GOT THE LEAD? HOW IS THIS POSSIBLE?, PEOPLE WERE JUST WONDERING IF THERE WERE CONTRACTORS IN THEIR AREA, STOP CALLING US BECAUSE THEY CLAIM THEY'VE BEEN CALLED BY 5-6 DIFF CONTRACTORS, WE CHANGED OUR MINDS, WE CAN'T AFFORD IT NOW, NOT THE HOME OWNERS BUT WERE WONDERING, THE $#*!TIEST LEADS I'VE EVER HEARD, NO WONDER THEY ONLY HAVE BAD REVIEWS (THERE SHOULD BE A NEGATIVE START BECAUSE ONE IS LESS THEN WHAT THEY DESERVE) YOU HAVE TO WORK FOR HOMEADVISOR TO MAKE MONEY OFF YOUR FAKE LEADS!
HORRIBLE FOR CONTRACTORS, DO NOT USE!
What a terrible experience! I booked a home cleaning with a biweekly repeat of the service. No one showed up for the very first appointment. I was not even called to inform me of the no show. Someone other than me then booked me for a SUNDAY cleaning! I emailed that I did NOT make another appointment, but no one paid attention! Continued sending the email reminders. DO NOT waste your time with this company - BAD NEWS!
I wish I didn't have to give them one star to write this review. Don't let them talk you into using they service. They got my husband and I out of 700 in something dollars. For what we don't know. They sending it to collections. Never used they service because the leads they send are not real people. I called my bank to get my money back because we noticed the numbers were not real people. One house they sent us is about 3 mins away we go over there they had no ideal what we was talking about or the lady Home advisor said lived there didn't. Please read the reviews before signing up because I wished I did. Now we owe money for what we don't know.
My husband joined HomeAdvisor mid 2018 because they really made him believe he would get a lot of work through them. But inc we noticed that wasn't the case he called to cancel his contract and pay the remaining balance they agreed but he kept getting charged. That's when I stepped in and called and they assured me that it would be taken care of. That never happened! We had to cancel our debit card so they wouldn't keep charging our account. And now his bill is in collections for over $700, we've called many times even to a supervisor and nothing has been fixed. This has hurt my husband's credit score and we just don't know what to do. If you or anyone you know considering them PLEASE DONT DOIT! They're so good with taking your money but never giving actual jobs nor helping you resolve your issues
I own a professional Handy Person business. HomeAdvisor has been reaching out to me for months trying to get me to sign on with them because they "are having problems finding handymen with a clean criminal background". I did a little research online and found many companies complaining that there is a section in the contract for homeadvisor that gives full rights of use regarding your company name, logo and information to homeadvisor allowing them to start up websites under your company name re-directing peoples calls and emails to them so they can sell the leads back to you or to your competitors.
The last time they contacted me I brought this up and the sales rep assured me that it is incorrect. So I told him if it is really incorrect send me a copy of the contract and I would sign up if he was telling the truth and the clause is not in their contract. He refused to send over the contract. To me that basically confirms that the sales reps are lying to the businesses to get them to sign the contracts hoping they won't read the fine print. That is illegal it falls under deceptive business practices.
I personally hope that someone starts a class action suit against them. I have trained sales professionals in the past and I find it repulsive that they would lie and manipulate a business so that they can use their good name to make money for themselves with no regard to the law and ethics.
I still have all the texts from the conversation with the sales rep. If i were more tech savy i would uplaod them here.
Horrible company to work with as a business. They will give you horrible leads and even when they say they changed their mind before you called they will tell you to bad it's not their fault. I even had a "lead" tell me they were looking for a different service and called. For a credit they said no that I need proof. Told them to call the customer and they denied to do that to verify.
I spent 32 minutes on the phone to completely cancel my account on Home Advisor. You cannot cancel your account on the website. You must call the phone number to completely cancel your account. You can only pause leads. Leads can cost up to $150/lead. When calling leads, over half the time nobody responds and you cannot get a refund.
Home Adviser also known as service magic. They been scamming contractors for years with their bogus leads. They charge contractors for false leads. Fastest way to get rich, it's one of the biggest frauds in USA history. When is our government putting a stop to this kind of fraudulent companies. Home Adviser is getting super rich by false leads. DO NOT FALL FOR HOME ADVISER.
I received my last 12 leads and all was scam! Stay away from this "company"! Customers don't have idea what I calling about and some numbers never answers.
We've been a contractor over 14 years with HA. 2-3 years now there are extremely long hold times, poor inefficient phone reps, no supervisors available ever, and continual bad leads that are not being refunded. It's time for a class action lawsuit
I worked with home advisor several years ago. Every year since then they call me and tell me how much better it is. Today, 1/17/20 at 4:17 PM their sales representative Anthony called me to try to get me to rejoin. He was the most rude and obnoxious salesman I ever dealt with. He told me he will stay on the phone until I hang up that's the way they do business. He refused to let me speak to a supervisor. I called several numbers to report this problem to his supervisor and couldn't get a hold of anybody. If this is the kind of problem that they say they corrected where is this company going. Years ago I decided to stay away from home advisor because of their methods of charging you for leads even though the job got canceled or the customer decided that they didn't want to do the job. At this time home advisor said they would credit us for these charges and they never did. I would advise everybody to stay away from this company especially when you have a problem and can't speak to anybody's supervisor.
Absolutely disappointed with "Home Advisor" and in particular the supervisor, Lillian, who oversee customer relations. FIRST I want to warn with extreme caution for everyone who is looking into this service, to BE AWARE! This is ultimately a scam and potentially a turn fall for anyone wishing to start a small business. Unfortunately I had no one tell me of the horrors before signing up, and now my business is upside down. Let me tell you why- Home Advisor offers you leads, where you are then given the option to connect with that lead (which is someone needing a service you provide)... but the TRICK is that Home Advisor takes a percentage of every lead WHETHER YOU LAND THE JOB OR NOT. So for example- they offer you a lead, you get in touch with that person and come to find out they no longer need services, was looking for something else, etc... BUT home advisor still takes a percentage EVEN if there is no actual work exchange between the business and the person needing the service. Through my experience this happened A LOT! Half of the leads home advisor would send me, would be jobs that I'm not qualified to do, and still yet Home Advisor would take a percentage and fund themselves, when the business owner didn't even get the oppourtnuty to do the actual job. I contacted them to find resolution, to find out they are very un willing to help and be transparent.
This company is severely run by demons
That have a mask and laugh while ur talking
To them for jobs - shame on you I'm a senior
Trying to stay alive for getting some work
U will suffer eternity robbers scammers
Service Providers Beware. Home Advisor will charge you $50-$100 (or more depending on your location) for the name and "phone number" of a potential lead even if you contact the lead on several occasions and they never return your phone call. In the beginning you are led to believe you can request a credit for these leads, however you later find out that unreturned calls/messages and/or a homeowner deciding that they don't want to do the project are not reasons for a refund. This is a major scam and I would highly advise any designers, engineers, architects, contractors, etc. avoid using this service. If you are looking for a good service to use I would highly recommend Houzz.
Signed into home advisor for recommendation for TV wall mount installation. If look for someone to do a professional job don't go through home advisor. The company they recommended were not pros at carrying out job. TV screen ended up busted and had to return. I would have done better to pick someone out of the directory on my own.
Answer: We had a similar experience when first trying Home advisor out. They kept taking money out of our account arbitrarily. I finally had to file stop payment forms at my bank. Then they threatened us with extra fees unless we "settled" our account. We have strict DTPA laws (deceptive trade practice act) in our state. I advised we complain to our Attorney General about this. I think home advisor should be banned in our state because of this fraud.
Answer: I didn't, they have been blowing my phone up for 6 month's now and now they act like thier desperate for me to sign with them. I have absolutely no want or will i ever sign with them after i have heard what thier doing to contractors who have a contract with them. I just signed with a family owned reality company and even they told me not to sign and even when i tell home advisor i don't want thier business they ignore my request and still call and now they act like thier a home owner requesting painting but once i get to asking where they live or information all of a sudden I'm being told to do a background check and i sign up for free! But i have to pay a percentage of my leads or size of job something of that nature where i pay them for a no guarantee of work as i see it. I can't trust handing money to a company that's being deceitful in a phone call off the rip! Just be careful i don't hear good thing's about them all over now.
Answer: Fake leads, sends email, text & calls between 20-30/day and charges for each. Even if Contractor doesn't open Or answer any calls! Will rip off contractors about $800/day until they catch it and no refunds! Do Not Use HomeAdvisor!
Answer: I don't know about the house cleaners but, I do not trust the company based on my own recent experience.
Answer: You don't know you have to call home advisor and wait on the phone for an hr until they pick up
