The company exhibits a mixed reputation, with notable strengths in customer satisfaction when it comes to specific contractors and service providers, who are often praised for professionalism and quality work. However, significant concerns arise regarding the lead generation service, with numerous customers expressing frustration over poor-quality leads, lack of refunds for invalid contacts, and overwhelming solicitations. Many reviews indicate a decline in service quality following the merger with Angie's List, leading to a perception of the company as unreliable. Overall, while individual service experiences can be positive, systemic issues with lead handling and customer support remain prevalent.

I had three call offs for just an HDMI cable repair until I finally had to get a refund they even messed that up. They refunded the wrong amount I would stay away.
Where do I begin. We just had our one acre property cleaned, top soil, seeding, fertilizing and plantings done by John and Jeff of John Conservo Landscaping Company. The work they do is thorough, meticulous, focused on providing us with what we want and need and at the same time considering our budget. They offer options and cost comparisons to help keep costs down. They even go the extra mile taking care of little things which were not discussed to help improve the look of your property. When they are done, you don't even know they were there except for the beautiful work that they do. I give them 10 Stars out of 5. You will find no company better than John Conservo Landscaping.
I am giving a review about Homeadvisor because of their outrageous fees and incessant calls after I terminated my contract. I lasted a day and half with $284 leads fees before I had a chance to review the lead, let alone contact thoses leads.
As a former contractor listed on Homeadvisor, the vetting process is a joke. The fees, as stated, are outrageous high. I wrote off $952 in Homeadvisor's expenses for one small $1800 project.
My advise, never get involved with Homeadvisor from a contractor point of view, nor as a client for their lack of background checks.
I just wanted an estimate and the first guy that called me got charged $48 even though I didn't use him. This seems unfair and a real rip off
Years ago, I used Home Advisor looking for a contractor. What I dislike about the website is I had to enter my information first then my phone rang off the hook. I did it the first time because I really needed a roofer. How does this site work anyway? I'm looking for a reputable contractor but don't want to enter my information, Do the businesses have to pay if you use their services?
Scheduled a Tree Trimming Service they charged my Credit Card and never received the Service they rescheduled Appointment 3 times and still waiting! Filing a Complaint with Better Business Bureau wish I could give them 0 stars but one star was the lowest.
I used their service to clean my room. I was hospitalized for a month and need help in cleaning my room. My wallet which contain about $530 was in my room. After the cleaner left, $100 was missing from my wallet. I am sure about the amount because before coming home, I deposited my Wallet in Hospital and they have record of all my notes.
Never trust Home Advisor
They are scam artist to contractors. They send expensive leads that has no descriptions of the job to be done, no homeowners name neither address or phone number that works, and when I ask for lead credit the excuse is always the same. They think that we have money to spare to trough out the window with fake leads. Contractors and homeowners stay away from them.
These guys were fantastic, professional, and completely aware to please their customers. Their work was professionally accomplished pleasing my wife which pleased me. Our job was a complicated job and they accomplished it. Highly recommend these guys.
We had leads where the phone was invalid, ad we were treated horrible by Irena from the customer care department. She was so rude and patronizing. Why choose a career in customer service if you hate it that much? We were spending almost $2000 a month, now its $100 just to keep showing up in Google. And we switched back to Google Ads. Much better
I work for a appliance repair company that is franchised. They have a deal with the corp. office to give us a better rate on their service. The rub is that the corporation gets a kick back when the franchises use HomeAdvisor.
HomeAdvisor has probably called me 7 times. Every time they call me I say no thank you. We have built up a good business and don't need to pay them for leads.
Whenever they call they are rude and won't take no for a answer. The last time they called me they hung up on me. Please let this review and others be the reason they go out of business.
I have been trying to get my screen repaired through a company called handy that home advisor connected me with. These people have sent 2 "pros" in the last 2 weeks neither of which knew what the job was before they arrived after i put specific instructions on what needed to be done. Neither of the so called pros had the tools they needed to do the job. Not the materials the tools. The last guy showed up and didn't even have a ladder! This site is a rip off. I am out my money and the job still is not done
My wife tried to use them to help with her cleaning business. Tried to ripp her off to the tune of $2000. Luckily we canceled the credit card on these mother$#*!ers. We lost about $300. They said we had to pay for all the leads they gave us even though she said she didn't want anymore. It's a straight up scam every part if it. By the time these cocksuckers get caught they'll change their name to something else and do it again.
I'm sick to my stomach over the fact that I ever connected myself to this company. Hard earned money taken from me with nothing of substance in return$40 phone numbers with no one ever calling back, no contact, and I have to pay for it. I'm trying so hard to get my cleaning business going, and to have money taken from me that never resulted in even an opportunity for a job is disgusting. They won't refund.
I'm extremely disappointment is Home Advisor overall. We signed up several months ago because their sales representative said they made changes and are so much better now. He promised a lot of things that sounded good. They have totally let us done, we called them a over a month ago and asked them to stop our account until they could deliver on the promises the representative sold us on. They continued to charge us for leads we didn't take. We finally had enough and canceled you today. We feel they are a totally unethical company. If we could have given them less stars we would have. We gave them every opportunity to make this right with us and they just kept our money and it seems their people just read the same script and don't give a damn!
Tell all your fellow contractors to stop using them, if we band together maybe this will force them to change the way they treat contractors
Consumers, Please do not use Home Advisor, rather rely on the reliable. Get referrals from great and trusted contractors from your friends, family, and neighbors. HA's "vetting" of contractors and services is far less dependable because they are not in the local area where you need someone to work for you; they are outsiders with a very effective marketing scheme and scam to milk local contractors of hard-earned money by promising "leads" to them for $14.95-$25.00 per lead. I've said, "No" to them as a 22 year old inspection and consulting business having served over 10,000 clients.
Contractors and other professionals, DO NOT FALL FOR THE HOME ADVISOR SCHEME AND SCAM! They are relentless in calling you and making you feel like other companies/your competitors will beat you out of business if you do not "partner" with Home Advisor. Wrong. Build a good name with a good service over a good amount of time and you'll always be busy. Treat people right and they'll tell countless others about how they love you and what you do. Spread the word and put HA out of business. I told one HA guy, "If I get a job because of you guys, I'll pay you, otherwise, you get nothing." Then, I said, "You should be paying me to have my name on your website!" Be true to your business. Forget THE HOME ADVERSARY!
Their contractor arrived at my home and started to yell at me about the three hour yard work job I had requested. He said, "you people (home advisor customers) always request more and take advantage". When I tried to explain that I had booked a three hour "yard cleanup" service he said that he would prefer to have a job that was only ten minutes so that he could get on with his day. He then became hostile and canceled the job. I simply had a service for weed cleanup- something that should have taken less than three hours anyway. I was being reasonable with the work and willing to compromise when he stormed out of my house. I will send this story to every website for people looking for work. This was completely unacceptable. I was a paying customer and refuse to be yelled at and threatened in my own home. Now, because of this company, this man has my address and contact information. Unacceptable. I feel unsafe in my own home. My lawyer is involved at this point. Home Advisors did nothing when I sent this complaint to them. I got an automated response with a fake apology- after sending a crazy meth head to my home. Suggestion- do your own research and at least be in charge of who enters your home, instead of the people at HA. Unbelievable.
This employee was told numerous times, over the phone and by email that my company was not interested in any services or leads from Home Advisor. He continued to make contact. Even after being bluntly told to leave us alone several times. I had to call and speak with Super visitor to make the employee leave us alone. In one day he contacted us 5 times. He was very pushy and when we told him to leave us alone he just continued talking, emailing, and calling.
I originally was put off by using Home Adviser as a source for leads because of the bad reviews, but the constant harassment from this employee set it in stone!
The only thing I can say about HomeAdvisor is my account rep was great. The rest of HomeAdvisor needs fine tuning. They dont give specific enough reasons for a contractor to request a credit then lock you out from trying to complete the request leaving a charge you have to call about. They gave leads and charged me for them well outside my service area or from customers who should not have been given to me. Too small as I only do commercial size work. My account rep said I shouldnt have been charges and tried contacting customer service about it. They never answered him. I called and got someone who was rude so I just called Capitol One to refute charges. Now HomeAdvisor is turning me in to a collection agency. I'll call the collection agency once, explain the deal, and offer to provide the emails from my HomeAdvisor account manager once. I'll never pay the $385 or so bucks to them and will be filing a claim with the Washington Stste Attorney General's office. I had to do this with Sprint 6 years ago for their false advertising of coverage areas. One State Attorney General was involved Sprint had to change up their advertising. Go figure. Glad we have some consumer protection but sad we have to use it. Wouldnt advise HomeAdvisor att all.
Answer: We had a similar experience when first trying Home advisor out. They kept taking money out of our account arbitrarily. I finally had to file stop payment forms at my bank. Then they threatened us with extra fees unless we "settled" our account. We have strict DTPA laws (deceptive trade practice act) in our state. I advised we complain to our Attorney General about this. I think home advisor should be banned in our state because of this fraud.
Answer: I didn't, they have been blowing my phone up for 6 month's now and now they act like thier desperate for me to sign with them. I have absolutely no want or will i ever sign with them after i have heard what thier doing to contractors who have a contract with them. I just signed with a family owned reality company and even they told me not to sign and even when i tell home advisor i don't want thier business they ignore my request and still call and now they act like thier a home owner requesting painting but once i get to asking where they live or information all of a sudden I'm being told to do a background check and i sign up for free! But i have to pay a percentage of my leads or size of job something of that nature where i pay them for a no guarantee of work as i see it. I can't trust handing money to a company that's being deceitful in a phone call off the rip! Just be careful i don't hear good thing's about them all over now.
Answer: Fake leads, sends email, text & calls between 20-30/day and charges for each. Even if Contractor doesn't open Or answer any calls! Will rip off contractors about $800/day until they catch it and no refunds! Do Not Use HomeAdvisor!
Answer: I don't know about the house cleaners but, I do not trust the company based on my own recent experience.
Answer: You don't know you have to call home advisor and wait on the phone for an hr until they pick up
