The company exhibits a mixed reputation, with notable strengths in customer satisfaction when it comes to specific contractors and service providers, who are often praised for professionalism and quality work. However, significant concerns arise regarding the lead generation service, with numerous customers expressing frustration over poor-quality leads, lack of refunds for invalid contacts, and overwhelming solicitations. Many reviews indicate a decline in service quality following the merger with Angie's List, leading to a perception of the company as unreliable. Overall, while individual service experiences can be positive, systemic issues with lead handling and customer support remain prevalent.

Home Advisor should be sued for this business model. My 20 yr. Old put all of her savings up to find a way to make money during the Covid-19, she started just a week ago, and discovered very quickly that what she had already paid and invested was in vein. The worst part about it, is that she called to speak with a retention specialist -these are the guys that claim to be able to assist with cancelling the account, but are actually here to negotiate these absurd lead fees they charge their home advisors for bad leads. I work from home and saw how hard she worked her leads to get a gig. Of the 21 leads she sent, she made $62 on one job to cut the lawn, need I mention the job was 30 mins away, when all was said and done Home Advisor charged her more than 50% for the lead and her hard work, time, gas. The retention specialist offered to cut her now $840 balance of the bad leads they sent her, the caveat here is that she had to remain with Home Advisor and they would in turn work to help her get better leads. This is a SCAM, 100% percent. This is a straight up money pit, don't waste your time or hard earned saving trying to the right thing, companies like Home Advisor are here to make money, at the expense of the advisor for no-end leads.
I submitted a request for a general handyman to do a couple of minor replairs in our home and got 'we do not have any providers for your request' or some such. Wow... no Handymen available from the HA site? I just checked other reviews of this site and they are generally pitiful. I understand why. Try Thumbtack or Angies List if you want this type of service.
Rep called me to get us on board with HomeAdvisor. I told him what kind of remodeling we do and he said perfect and hung up on me. Nice. Used HomeAdvisor a couple years ago, Never again! It seems they only care about your money and how to soak it out of you.
The handyman showed up 2:45 minutes late and consequently caused me to cancel a later appointment. He said that he was sent to supervise another job before heading here. If that is the case, then scheduling a time for service with Home Advisor is useless. When he got here he thought all he was supposed to do was to install two faucets despite the fact that I provided detailed information on what was needed in my appointment request. He did not have the tools needed to install the vanity and I had to go to a hardware store and purchase them. When it came time to install the first of two identical faucets, he told me they would not fit in the pre-drilled holes, which, by the way, are standard size. At that point I told him to leave. Once he left, I installed the faucet without a problem - photo attached. This "handyman" was unqualified and unequipped to complete minor projects. This was a complete waste of time and money.
Home Advisor is easily the most corrupt online presence ever. The "leads" don't respond, and if they do, they were still on the home advisor site when you get it. They charge for leads that I didn't approve, and disputing the charges is a joke. They seem to have a script that ignores anything you are trying to say, if you can contact them. I let my account go to collections, and immediately set up a payment plan. Now I simply tell everyone to avoid them. They prey on contractors through unwitting home owners. Please, just search on the web for contractors. Anybody decent has a business listing and will return calls.
The mash different license work together, so even IF the customer pics up i can not do they are looking for because my license does not allow me, but they still charge me. Now i have been able to return some but they make it really hard, only Disconnected numbers or wrong numbers, everything else you are on your own. I learned the truth about Home Advisor when i got a lead for $116 and the customer has 2 questions about what we do and then told us they were not looking to buy they just wanted to ask for a school project. I paid $116 to answer 2 questions for a school report WTF! Most of the leads no one ever picks up the phone. I monitor it everyday and out our 136 leads in the last 90 days we sold 10. SO NOT WORTH IT. I have tried to talk to customer service with ideas to make this work, but we get nothing. Worse lead source ever, your better off just walking around the mall asking people if they need your service. It wont really cost you anything (Maybe lunch) and you have the same chances of finding someone to hire you. RUN AWAY DON'T GIVE THEM YOUR MONEY. Believe me they will not fail on charging your card.
(1)Leads. The lead system is just based upon someone filling out a contact sheet on the website and then HA sends it to on a average of 8 different companies which if it even is real you have to basically bid yourself down to almost nothing to compete.
(2)Fees. Many hidden high fees that are not explained and once they send you that soooo called verified lead, just like in goodfellas, copacabana burns down FU pay them.
(3)Service. They send you fake leads, leads that other contractors beat to death etc then when you call they tell you that YOU exceeded your monthly credits, When you finally get tired and call, sit on the phone for an hour + They offer you something to reign you back in on there scam.
(4)Transparecy- Many grey areas that you don't realize or even think about until after you sign, They take your phone number and direct it to there call center and have many other technical tactics as well that I'm still learning.
For the measly opening credits they offer, Between these 4 plus the others stay away
I recommend Julio Castillo and his tree cutting services to all who all seeking a professional who gives fair estimates and completes the work he contracts to do in a timely and very professional manner. I had previously hired, Tribal Tree Care, Alfred Owle to do removing trees for me and cleaning up the debris. Alfred was paid in advance to complete the land clearing as I had to return to Florida before he completed the contracted job, Alfred and his assistant, Rachel Jewel, left the job leaving a big mess on the ground and never finishing the job they were paid in full to complete. Alfred Owle and Rachel Jewel should never be hired to complete any work as they do not finish the work they agreed to accomplish and they do not clean up their mess.
On the other hand, Julio Castillo is definitely a man to hire if you need work preformed and completed according to the estimate he gave before starting. Julio is the best at what he does and his prices are very agreeable. Julio's quality of work is the best! I will most definitely hire Julio again when I have more work for him to complete
We were with HomeAdvisor Pro for close to 8 months. We left them today. They cost us, a very small beginning company, nearly $2000 in leads. We maybe got 2 or 3 decent jobs with them through that entire period. We also came to find out that they were pulling money from our account weekly instead of monthly (as they told us in the beginning) with no notification. They were also charging us $750 a month for leads as opposed to the $350 we agreed. We paid $738 in leads in the month a June, got maybe made $300 from jobs from them that month. BS. Every rep tells you something different and it's just one issue after another. If they can charge you more, they will with any chance they get. Don't do it.
Paid by Discover card $215.50 on 6/30/20. Was told by Home Advisor work would be done on 7/10/20 at 10:00. Multi Lakes Handyman Services assured me they could do the work, but not on that date. I've texted, given the benefit of the doubt, have been told he'd call, hadn't forgotten me. We'll, I give up. Don't pay in advance to Home Advisor, they are not a responsible business. I'm still in the dark, no working yard light, UGH
Hired a pro in May that never showed up, it's now July. Tried leaving a bad review and calling homeadvisor with no success. Waste of time use Angie's list.!
They give leads that can cost from 25 to 45 dollars regardless if you get the job. They gathered contractors with one client and the lowest get the job. But in the meantime all the other contractors have to pay for services that they never got it.
Save you money and advertise local! That is the way to go.
I am very satisfied with the service I received from ALDACO Air. He was very professional, courteous and answered all my questions. L would highly recommend this company.

Don't prepay for services. Do your own homework and hire your own professional, not home advisor Took the money and ran. Service not accomplished. Contractor did not show on original appointment day or time. Bottom of the barrel rude people. Wanted extra fees. No customer service, on hold forever. Supervisors never available.
During the process of setting up accounts I kindly asked why they have changed their name and why all the bad press... she hung up on me My personal opinion SCAM stay away from this company
Courtney Watts has been cleaning my house for the past 6 month and she comes every 2 weeks. We are very satisfied and she performs her job very timely and very professional.
I used the flat rate service in june to have a new pool liner installed (by the do not use this method because it seems that the people on this only do this work as a side job not as a career). On june 29th mr tomas c showed up. I don't think he ever installed a liner before. I had to replaced 4 caps on the railing myself because because they were not put back right. The pool bottom is not smooth. The pool liner was not put in tightly enough and as a result there are large flaps of liner against the walls. I will have to have someone come in and readjust the liner. I am waiting till spring because the family is using the pool daily so I don't want to empty it with this heat wave. I don't know who I will use but i can swear on a stack of bibles it won't be from home adviser. Lois a.
I receive spam emails several times a week from them or their affiliates. No way to block, either, because they switch up the email domains regularly, so it always comes from a different email. Every time I see this company's name come up, I'm reminded of their spam and will, therefore, never use them.
You guys need to watch who you put on your site the guy you sent me ended up being a thief thanks homeadvisor
Home advisor takes money from you even if you do not take the leads. You close your business due to the Corona virus and they continue to charge your account even after you cancel your account. They give you a credit to keep you with them but actually never let you use the credit. They charge your account, put you in collections then refuse to help you with charges that THEY say you accrued even if you close your business. Contractors BEWARE! It is a scam!
Answer: We had a similar experience when first trying Home advisor out. They kept taking money out of our account arbitrarily. I finally had to file stop payment forms at my bank. Then they threatened us with extra fees unless we "settled" our account. We have strict DTPA laws (deceptive trade practice act) in our state. I advised we complain to our Attorney General about this. I think home advisor should be banned in our state because of this fraud.
Answer: I didn't, they have been blowing my phone up for 6 month's now and now they act like thier desperate for me to sign with them. I have absolutely no want or will i ever sign with them after i have heard what thier doing to contractors who have a contract with them. I just signed with a family owned reality company and even they told me not to sign and even when i tell home advisor i don't want thier business they ignore my request and still call and now they act like thier a home owner requesting painting but once i get to asking where they live or information all of a sudden I'm being told to do a background check and i sign up for free! But i have to pay a percentage of my leads or size of job something of that nature where i pay them for a no guarantee of work as i see it. I can't trust handing money to a company that's being deceitful in a phone call off the rip! Just be careful i don't hear good thing's about them all over now.
Answer: Fake leads, sends email, text & calls between 20-30/day and charges for each. Even if Contractor doesn't open Or answer any calls! Will rip off contractors about $800/day until they catch it and no refunds! Do Not Use HomeAdvisor!
Answer: I don't know about the house cleaners but, I do not trust the company based on my own recent experience.
Answer: You don't know you have to call home advisor and wait on the phone for an hr until they pick up
