The company exhibits a mixed reputation, with notable strengths in customer satisfaction when it comes to specific contractors and service providers, who are often praised for professionalism and quality work. However, significant concerns arise regarding the lead generation service, with numerous customers expressing frustration over poor-quality leads, lack of refunds for invalid contacts, and overwhelming solicitations. Many reviews indicate a decline in service quality following the merger with Angie's List, leading to a perception of the company as unreliable. Overall, while individual service experiences can be positive, systemic issues with lead handling and customer support remain prevalent.

Coming from a customer and pro site member I can tell you than Home Advisor is one of the worst lead generation providers for pros and businesses and that on the side of the users it does a poor job at matching the right pros to users and getting users in touch with pros.
1) They sell their leads to more than one pro on theirs system at a time.
2) They provide poor, bogus, or inadequately vetted leads. Most of the time the customers either aren't reachable or are poorly matched to the job or pros capabilities and requested tasks and they still bill for the leads.
3) Their customer service is useless and unable to truly assist with anything other than going by a script. Their customer service reps purpose is not to help their customers and pros but to ensure retention of both in order to pad their numbers.
4) Their refund policies are bad and waited towards their benefit to and ensure they get to keep all the money they charge for bad leads regardless of customer satisfaction.
5) Their leads quality control is non existent as they match customers with pros inadequately and then they charge high rates for leads that should be properly vetted and are not.
All of the reasons above are due to an inadequate aging site with a poor algorithm and bad pro & business and job categorizing, bad job details gathering and project vetting, that results in poor customer job to pro matching most of the time and lack of choices for both business and customers. I suspect this is done on purpose in order to maximize their revenue without providing true value.
Ordered a chimney cleaning. First date set nobody showed and HomeAdvisor did not contact. Over the next 3 weeks they rescheduled at least 5 times and cancelled with excuses that didn't make sense. "Your pro was suddenly called to another job" was the most common. After countless cancellation without apology they just gave up and said their guy couldn't make it and finally refunded the money. Usually I had 2 people communicating with me who apparently weren't in contact with each other. The whole thing was a pain and sham. Stay away.
I am a contractor and I contemplated for weeks before signing up to home advisor. They promised there would be no more than 3 contractors who get the same lead and I was told on several occasions that 4 or 5 other contractors had contacted the same home owner. I was a member for months and pursued many of the leads that came my way, I did not get one contract through any of the home advisor leads. I found most of the leads were just home owners trying to get a basic idea of cost to MAYBE do a project in the future. I ended up spending hundreds of dollars and many, many hours on leads from home advisor and nothing ever materialized.
First guy shows up with alcohol on his breath. Said I need wiring and 2 gang boxes. I called and told HA not to
Return this man. Next week new guy comes and said I did not need those for recessed lighting. But did not have a saw to make holes in ceiling. Which I told him when he called and told me what time he would be here. So he then goes and leaves and never returns. I called and left a voice message has too when he was returning. No reply. Called HomeAdvisor and of course could not get through, so I left a e-mail to tell them
Their fired. I want my refund credited back on my card. Which is pre-paid before the work is ever done. Real
Professionals companies do not do this too there customers. Beware of HomeAdvisor in Akron, OH. The web
Site made me add a star for it to be submitted.
I would rather die and be consumed by maggots than let homeadvisor steal one more cent from me. They are crooks and i wouldnt recomend their "services" to my worst enemy
I needed a pressure wash for my hardie plank house. I purchased a membership. That is $20 I will never see again,. Anyway, All seemed fine. I thought it was all set up. Other contractors called which was a mess. The guy came a few minutes late. He didn't have a mask and had an attitude about it. He did go get a shirt and put it around his face. He acted like he had no idea what he is supposed to do. He didn't have a ladder and he didn't know how to work mine either. (really?) He was wearing flip flops. He is not going to finish which is ridiculous as my house isn't that big. Home Advisor quoted the price. This guy doesn't have a last name and a weird phone number. It says it is inactive. Just great. I tried numerous time to talk to HomeAdvisor. I hung up after 1 hour and 10 minute. The guy on the chat line even disconnected me as soon as I said I was having a problem. One person finally answered me but said he couldn't help because they didn't have any information on the fixed price department. There is no way to reach these people. If you happen to, it does you no good at all. So disappointed in the whole situation.
I signed up with HomeAdvisor for some brick repair work. Shorty after I was contacted by two contractors sent by HomeAdvisor. I made an appointment with the the first one called "Unlimited Masonry", and the guy never showed up and never responded to my call. The second one's called "Absolute Masonry", also never responded to my email. I called HomeAdvisor, they basically told me the contractors were allowed to jerk people around. Their business practice showed me that they were unreliable. If you use them you are taking a risk to get ripped off.
Armstrong Garage Door, (JEFF) arrived earlier than scheduled, went straight to work, He made no false movements. He k; new exactly what he wanted done. He brought ALL the needed tools and parts, and was done replacing two main springs, two pulleys and 10 rollers. And he was gone. Really nice to see someone work like he knows what he's doing. Thanks Jeff. Thanks Armstrong.
I don't know why I went back to this site. Since Home Advisor bought Angie's list, there is a downgrade in quality. Home Advisor gives no choice as to who is given my contact details. Usually it is the contractor with the fewest amount of good ratings. I wouldn't even call them if I could see their write-up first. I liked Angie's List where I could peruse a list of business and chose who I liked. If I enter information on Home Advisor, I am bombarded with emails and phone calls from contractors, as well as Home Advisor itself. Too much hassle. And disappointment when I hire a contractor they recommend.
Baloney excuse for No Show,, a turkey outfit, out for profit, just B. S. No show first, changed three time, never delivered on service signed for, reluctantly rebated, They have gone way downhill from two years ago. Would never use them again.
Greatest job done by Alex Mackay, very professional, covers everything, no over spray, put everything back as is, would recommend to anyone, just a great person
Christoper Powers and assistance gave us a complete termite inspect, top to bottom and did a great service in a follow up call to control and get rid of our terminates. Very Professional and through. We have had other termite companies but Termite Science is the best. Tom Kirker, Anaheim, Ca
I hired Longhorn concrete to resurface my sidewalks as they have sunk several inches as a result of multiple floods. They came and stole a sheet of my plywood to make their forms. They had no power, so I ran a cord from my garage. They poured the sidewalks and left a mess of pulled up grass and paper. The sidewalk is so rough a
Nd wavy as to preclude comfortable walking. The surface is covered by small rocks and dust from the concrete. They didn't even sweep off the surface. They used my garbage cans for their refuse. I wanted sidewalks that were at least simi smooth. I paid them without a close inspection.
I booked a service on 08/02 and was confirmed for 08/06. The funds were withdrawn on 08/02. I was confirmed for the service at 9:42pm on the 5th. I received a text the morning of the 6th stating that they had to re-schedule for the morning of the 8th. On the 8th, I received a text that they had to re-schedule for the 10th. On the morning of the 10th, I received a text stating they were cancelling the job and funds would be deposited within 3-5 working days. This was a terrible experience and I will not recommend this JOKE site to anyone.
Miguel was very responsive and completed the task I had for him professionally and quickly. I would call him again for handyman needs.
Do not fall into this scam. Homeadvisor charged my credit card for a job that nobody showed up to. Now I am fighting with them because they want to refund only 50% because they say that nobody was here when they showed up but there were 4 people here that can testify that nobody ever showed up.
We were satisfied with Walter Remodeling. They did a good job, and cleaned up after themselves. Were professional and polite.
Appointments through homeadvisor are not linked with the professionals they recommend... which means the appointment provided is worthless.
Home Advisor is the best scam ever, Home advisor will send you every lead and charge you for every lead, most of them are not legit, wrong phone numbers, and even when you do get a customer on the phone, which is rare, They are just looking and are not interested in having the actual job completed, Yet Home Advisor will charge you for every lead, I placed my leads on hold, And then was charged for every lead, Tried to have Home Advisor give me a credit, Hope, Home advisor is just a money machine and will rip you off, STAY AWAY FROM HOME ADVISOR,
I asked RV Gaston to hang 2 bathroom mirrors.
He arrived on time and immediately assessed the job. RV was fully prepared for the job.
He hung my mirrors perfectly and cleaned up after finishing. I highly recommend this knowledgeable andprofessional handyman.
Answer: We had a similar experience when first trying Home advisor out. They kept taking money out of our account arbitrarily. I finally had to file stop payment forms at my bank. Then they threatened us with extra fees unless we "settled" our account. We have strict DTPA laws (deceptive trade practice act) in our state. I advised we complain to our Attorney General about this. I think home advisor should be banned in our state because of this fraud.
Answer: I didn't, they have been blowing my phone up for 6 month's now and now they act like thier desperate for me to sign with them. I have absolutely no want or will i ever sign with them after i have heard what thier doing to contractors who have a contract with them. I just signed with a family owned reality company and even they told me not to sign and even when i tell home advisor i don't want thier business they ignore my request and still call and now they act like thier a home owner requesting painting but once i get to asking where they live or information all of a sudden I'm being told to do a background check and i sign up for free! But i have to pay a percentage of my leads or size of job something of that nature where i pay them for a no guarantee of work as i see it. I can't trust handing money to a company that's being deceitful in a phone call off the rip! Just be careful i don't hear good thing's about them all over now.
Answer: Fake leads, sends email, text & calls between 20-30/day and charges for each. Even if Contractor doesn't open Or answer any calls! Will rip off contractors about $800/day until they catch it and no refunds! Do Not Use HomeAdvisor!
Answer: I don't know about the house cleaners but, I do not trust the company based on my own recent experience.
Answer: You don't know you have to call home advisor and wait on the phone for an hr until they pick up
