I needed to mitigate Radon in my home so I got on Home Advisor. Only one contractor called me immediately. Since I was not sure anyone else would call, I negotiated with this contractor. Turns out he was great. Two others called later on in the day. I would have liked to have seen a list of potential contractors that I could have called myself instead of having them call me. With your current system, I never know who will call or if anyone will call at all. It is not a good system. For example, two months ago I asked for hardwood floor refinisher and all I got was a fence contractor who said they were not available until March. No flooring contractors called. More recently, I put in a request for contractors who might be able to replace a clay lining in my chimney. All I got was contractors who said they didn't do that kind of work. You need to break out more categories when it comes to chimney work.

Your crew was thorough, professional and resourceful, successfully overcoming some set backs which cropped up along the way. The crew also has my respect for managing to maneuver the boom truck and chipper into some incredibly tight spaces in order to complete the work. I'm happy to recommend Moores Tree Service to anyone needing tree trimming and tree removal service. We know that you have a very busy schedule at this time of the year and the fact that you actually made way in your schedule to do this job within a few short days of our request, has been a huge relief to us.
While your pricing was fair I expected a good job, instead I got a excellent job.

We tried Home advisor, and they promised us the world. We did everything they asked and recommended for our profile, and yet they still screwed up our account. Our services were input wrong, our service areas kept getting changed, and we weren't getting notified of clients even though we had all the preferences turned on. We called multiple times, and they kept apologizing and saying that they were going to fix the issues.

We were going to cancel, and they returned us credits, and promised that the issues would be rectified if we gave them another chance. We had given them chance after chance. Then when we finally do decide that enough is enough, and cancel, they refuse to refund us our money stating that we are outside the time available for a refund. We were only outside of that time frame due to their tactics, and the way they would word things. IE "we'll credit that back to your account." apparently meaning only to their service, not to our actual payment account.

The latest referral was a client that stated he did not go on Home Advisor for any pest control, and he was confused as to why we were contacting him.

If you use them, be aware that they will promise you everything, and you will get next to nothing but a headache.

I was overwhelmed with emails and phone calls from Home Advisor. I also received a VERY odd call shortly after posting my job. The woman identified herself as calling from HA but the caller ID said something about a marketing firm. She asked me all sorts of questions that I'd already answered in the HA post. It made me feel like it was a scam so I ended the call.
I guess I didn't stop to think about how HA makes money. I don't like that contractors are charged a lot for the leads they get - especially for small jobs. This cost is of course passed onto the consumer. I'd rather pay a small fee for the HA service like the original business model of Angie's List. I likely won't be using HA again.
