Home Advisor offers "Fixed Pricing" for your project. You describe the job and they bid it. They strongly and frequently repeat that the price is final, you will not pay more. They do not tell you that this price is for labor only! Their serviceman arrived at my job, said he had to go to buy parts and would be back very soon. Two hours later he called to tell me he had found the parts and I needed to drive to his location to purchase the parts! Either he did not have $30 cash nor credit in order to buy the parts himself or he did not trust HomeAdvisor to reimburse him the parts cost. HomeAdvisor had not told me it was the fixed price PLUS cost of materials so I was somewhat surprised. I do not know if there were other hidden fees involved or not, like mileage, time spent trying to locate the parts etc. The serviceman never did return from his parts run. I went to the store the next day and the parts he was attempting to purchase would not have been able to be used to repair this problem. They were totally wrong item. Save your self time and money and look elsewhere for your needs. HomeAdvisor assured me that the serviceman they would send was "a qualified window specialist" that would be able to repair the egress window repair I required. The guy they sent was just a self proclaimed "Handyman" working with one tool box out of the trunk of his car. He was not even familiar with the descriptive term "egress"!
Of the 5 companies I requested bids for tree removal, only one called me. Haven't heard from the others for over a week since I requested bids.
Got a list with several companies. Brian called first said could come TODAY. Worked for me.

I contacted Home Advisor about plumbing issues- slow drains in the bathroom and kitchen sink. Home Advisor connected us with two plumbing companies. Once contacted me right away, so I arranged for them to come out that afternoon. The second company contacted me hours later but since I had already committed to the first guy, I stayed with him. The first company canceled their appointment but came the next day. The guy did a great job, although the price was a little high. I recommend both HomeAdvisor and the plumbing company.

I have tried two fixed price offers on Home Advisor and both did not deliver as promised. Both service pros did not provide the service and I paid ahead of time. It seems that Home Advisor does not have this program set up very well. I will NOT be using this service again!

A week ago I booked a housecleaning for today, and 2 hours before the appointment I got a message that they just rescheduled it to two days from now. When I called, I discovered that service doesn't actually reserve anything you book through it at the time of booking. Apparently, they wait until the day of, and then try to find someone to do it. Probably because they keep much of the fee for themselves, and then throw it out for the lowest bidder who is available that day.
I canceled the cleaning and the membership to this stupid service on-the-spot (and now I have to clean the house myself, as I needed it cleaned for an event happening today.
Total fail.
They gave me 3 pros to call for each project. Only 1 out of three called me back. They sent me some other pros via text. When I clicked on the text, the pros list in the text were not in the link. That was disappointing. Therefore, I was only left with one pro as an option.
Last year when I used Home Advisor I paid Home Advisor and you paid the contractor. This time the contractor billed me directly. Who do I pay? Is there a phone number for Home Advisor?
We had four small home repairs done. The team was prompt, professional, courteous and excellent at doing repairs in a timely manner. We were very pleased with the results and definitely would hire them again.
I had to have a set of stairs replaced in my garage due to a terrible job that was done previously. The old ones were crooked, awful lumber was used, the steps were not level, the entire staircase and landing creaked. Now, I have the most beautiful stairs! I don't feel like I'm going to fall sideways like I did with the old ones as they were so unlevel. I am totally impressed and will use them again!
