The company exhibits a mixed reputation, with notable strengths in customer satisfaction when it comes to specific contractors and service providers, who are often praised for professionalism and quality work. However, significant concerns arise regarding the lead generation service, with numerous customers expressing frustration over poor-quality leads, lack of refunds for invalid contacts, and overwhelming solicitations. Many reviews indicate a decline in service quality following the merger with Angie's List, leading to a perception of the company as unreliable. Overall, while individual service experiences can be positive, systemic issues with lead handling and customer support remain prevalent.

I needed an electrician to fix a few problems involving a circuit, wall plugs, and a garbage disposal. I have not even been able to get electricians in my area (Berkeley and other East Bay cities) to even return calls. Erick at Mendez Electric called very soon after I listed my needs and set an appointment four days later. They were on time, knowledgeable, and I was really pleased with the bill.
Home advisor set me up with handyman services for repair on my house, the repairs were done same day. Excellent workmanship.
Several of the pros did not respond at all to my request for bids. One (DreamWorx), told me they were no longer interested in doing my small project after I questioned their pricing (ex. $900 for a $150 door at Lowes) and why they added items to the bid I didn'tt need (removal and replacement of tile and a medicine cabinet).
As for the actual HomeAdvisor experience, I had requested user assistance with contacting pros as notified on text but was told by the bot there was no way to do that on a laptop. This was incredibly frustrating and non-user-friendly. Also, buttons sent via email didn't work, but they did in emails from Angi.
My biggest complaint is that after I submitted several bids through Angie and HomeAdvisor, I was inundated with spam in my emails and on my phone. Nowhere when signing up for either site's use did I find it mentioned that my information would be sold to another service (or hundred services). I thought all information would remain private. I will never use either HomeAdvisor or Angi to search for contractors again unless I am truly desperate.
Home Advisor sent my name to Ernesto and he contacted me. I almost had to do nothing except answer a text
I immediately had people contacting me and giving estimates for what I needed. Totally pleased.
I was first contacted by a contractor who tried to bully me into sending them 700 dollars on PayPal. Naturally I did not do this. Then a 2nd contractor contacted me and did the 1st job and then tried to get me to use them outside of homeadvisor, but I couldn't get any quotes or estimates in writing. So I didnt feel comfortable using them. So one of them became argumentative with us and behaved in an unprofessional manner. He made an appointment to come and get his equipment from the home that we had him working on. He never showed and would not answer the phone. We were waiting on him close to an hour. His partner rescheduled us for the following day. So most of our day was wasted. When I try to place a complaint with home advisor, the customer service people act like they don't know what I am talking about.
Very demanding I bought all the materials. Labor alone cost a lot more
We canceled our Home Advisor membership a year ago because the leads are either mostly spam or the clients who go on home advisor are a complete waist of time and money in leads. We received another surprise membership fee charge of $288 on July 30th 2021 with no notification or authorization to pull funds from our account. I called the next business day to receive a refund and I was told by Don Revero that our subscription was not canceled and that they had sent us an email of renewal to an inactive email address of an office manager that no longer works here. His response was that they can not issue a refund once the transfer has gone through, even though it has been not even 1 business day since the transaction and we haven't used their services for over a year! COMPLETE HIGHWAY ROBBERY. DO NOT use this company if you wish to hang on to your money.
The website was useful. It gives a variety of skilled talented companies that will help complete your projects
"The project was top notch. Not only did they consistently show up on time, but did a great job communicating throughout the process and changes. I started out with one thing in mind but as the project progressed I asked for changes. They were eager to accommodate and worked very hard to make sure I was pleased. Final project turned out great!" I am already getting a quote for my next project!
Only one of the 3 companies that contacted us actually did shingle roofs on mobile homes. I didn't find a way to narrow that down when picking shingle roof projects, but did definitely comment that it was a mobile home. Apparently only 1 company of 3 read the comments, wasting their time and me.
DO NOT USE HOME ADVISOR! Had broken garage door spring and used Home Advisor to book an appointment. Follow up emails from Home Advisor stated repair would take place on a Saturday, which I had plans. The email gave links to open my account, but the link did not work. Attempted to open account from the website ad said I need a password. Called customer service twice, they sent another email to reset password. The links inside the email did not work either. Called customer service again and was told someone would call me back to reset password and I had to change appointment on the website. No one called back and I rearranged my plans for scheduled Saturday repair. About 1 hour prior to scheduled time for service person to show up, received an email advising the repair person would be there and rescheduled till Monday. The reason in the email was the repair person had an emergency. Upon calling customer service I was told reason for cancellation was they were unable to locate any garage door repair persons in my area.
I received a quote from 417 Electrical - Bob Sherman. My home\s breaker box was upgraded in nine hours, and the project came in at the quoted price.
Would recommend they got me a specialist to work on my project same day and at a great price
With a few tasks that needed addressing, it wasn't initially clear how to zero in on the type of help I was looking for.it was fast once I figured out a handyman might be the right person for all the tasks. I had to try a few things on the website, but eventually got the email listing three handymen and their review summaries. I was getting ready to send a message to the third one listed, with the highest reviews, when he called me. I found the various offers, including the lump sum pricing for tasks, distracting, bit understand the need for marketing.
Answer: We had a similar experience when first trying Home advisor out. They kept taking money out of our account arbitrarily. I finally had to file stop payment forms at my bank. Then they threatened us with extra fees unless we "settled" our account. We have strict DTPA laws (deceptive trade practice act) in our state. I advised we complain to our Attorney General about this. I think home advisor should be banned in our state because of this fraud.
Answer: I didn't, they have been blowing my phone up for 6 month's now and now they act like thier desperate for me to sign with them. I have absolutely no want or will i ever sign with them after i have heard what thier doing to contractors who have a contract with them. I just signed with a family owned reality company and even they told me not to sign and even when i tell home advisor i don't want thier business they ignore my request and still call and now they act like thier a home owner requesting painting but once i get to asking where they live or information all of a sudden I'm being told to do a background check and i sign up for free! But i have to pay a percentage of my leads or size of job something of that nature where i pay them for a no guarantee of work as i see it. I can't trust handing money to a company that's being deceitful in a phone call off the rip! Just be careful i don't hear good thing's about them all over now.
Answer: Fake leads, sends email, text & calls between 20-30/day and charges for each. Even if Contractor doesn't open Or answer any calls! Will rip off contractors about $800/day until they catch it and no refunds! Do Not Use HomeAdvisor!
Answer: I don't know about the house cleaners but, I do not trust the company based on my own recent experience.
Answer: You don't know you have to call home advisor and wait on the phone for an hr until they pick up
