I bought many packets and I took great care w them. I live in south Florida so warmth, sunlight and rain isl not an issue. I checked on them 2-3 times a day, used very good soil and compost and yet almost nothing sprouted. I will NEVER buy from Gurneys again. What a joke! I wasted nearly two months growing time waiting for these seeds to sprout!
Absolute worst customer service. Instead of assisting to resolved the issue. All I've heard from them "was we can't and we don't". No accountability whatsoever. Blamed fed ex and made it sound like it was my fault. Company is a fraud!
I will NEVER order from this company again. Product (if they can even fill the order) is subpar. 1/3 or what they sent did not grow and I grow a wide variety of fruits and vegetables so I'm not a novice gardner. I placed my order and paid the amount indicated. They were unable to fill several items then kept sending me a bill wanting MORE money for the crap they did send. I've called twice now to get it taken care of. Absolutely absurd way of doing business.
Ordered fountain grass on May 16 and it's now July 20. I have called several times and always assured " two more weeks". Today I call and I'm told late September. I canceled my order and hope I get my refund in 5 business days like they promised. If not I'll dispute the charge with my credit card company.
I bought some plants from Gurney's during a sale on their website and checked out. Paid by credit card, standard website checkout process where they determine the total due and you pay it.
I never received part of the order, and the plants I did receive took 1 month to arrive and one of them was dead. But the real kicker is that 2 months later I got a paper bill in the mail for a balance due of $8. I actually thought it was a scam at first, because there's no way for a customer to pay anything other than the total due at checkout on a website. I contacted support and they said $8 is the difference between what I paid at checkout on the website and the full cost of the plants.
Turns out it's Gurney's itself that is the scam.
I ordered a lily and received a bag of dirt, no bulb, no seeds, nothing! When I called customer service they would not refund my money, just give me a certificate to purchase something from them, another bag of dirt I guess. Not impressed nor will I buy from this company again. Very disappointed.
Shipping was delayed for 15 days although at the end of the shipping window for the region. Then 10 days shipping from Ohio to Connecticut. Minute tomato plants - 1 inch plugs - no leaves - a few white tomatoes on them from the extreme stress. Their policy is to give a credit for a future order. No refunds. Stay away folks. Try White Flower Farm and Territorial Seed. Great plants.
Not sure how they stay in business. Do not order from them. Go to Burpee or Bonnie. Horrible plants
DO NOT ORDER FROM THIS COMPANY!
I've placed (3) orders for both seeds and live plants for my garden. Two out of the three plants arrived DEAD and their customer service 'offering' of compensation didn't even cover my shipping costs. THE WORST customer service is terrible... it's taken me several attempts to get a reasonable 'credit" of ($10.00) AND THEN after trying to place another order the 'gift certificate' expired within 34 minutes of receiving in my email. TERRIBLE, TERRIBLE! I spent well over $100 with their company. NEVER AGAIN!
I was a long time customer of Gurneys and was always happy with the seeds and service however over the years I seen a constant drop on product quality and service my latest and last transaction ever was placed in March 2022 we are now June 20th and I'm still waiting on my last plant to arrive, seeds are non consistent at germinating (probably old) and to add insult to injury when some of my plants arrived yesterday the substituted one bell pepper. Enjoy Gurney Seed and Nursery that's the last dollar you get from me
Every time I have ordered from here my order is always delayed or I do not receive it at all, they just keep changing the shipping date without any explanation
Orders placed and confirmed are cancelled with explanations such as "system glitches" etc.
Orders actually processed and received are sub-par compared to other sources.
I would not recommend this company.
Like others - ordered plants April 1. Plants shipped 4/20 arrived 4/28 afternoon, all dried, damaged, and DOA. (A few dried pieces of newsprint amongst the dried roots was the haphazard effort to preserve moisture during the mule-train shipping.) Telephone service subcontracted to far-east promised replacement by 6/3. Never arrived. So, Gurneys has my $210, I have no plants, and I have 8 2-foot deep hopes in my backyard. These guys are fraudulent - steer clear!
Not only did they delay my muhly grass order numerous times but the ones they sent were DEAD.
They had the audacity to add shipping charges to a " replacement " order that wasn't even what I originally ordered and now I have to wait for that.
This is not a business to deal with if you want your garden to grow or grow in accordance with planting times.
Throw your $$ away and save yourself the angst of dealing with them.
Horrendous experience!
When I received my peach tree from them it was a bare root 2' tree but they packed it in a 4' box. It was completely broken and dead when I got it. It looks like it was packed by a 4 year old. I will NEVER use them again and neither should anyone else reading these reviews
My first order from Gurney's will be my last. Their shipping methods assured that the plants that they DID ship would arrive gasping for life. I'm not certain how healthy they were to begin with. Hard to tell when the plants are nearly dead.
Two items still have not shipped. The original dates were approximately 2 months ago. I doubt that my tomato plants will have time to produce tomatoes and my lilac, who knows.
Expensive and unreliable. No communication. Never again. You lost a customer and I will always tell others who ask to avoid Gurneys at all costs. I have ordered from some wonderful online sources. Gurneys is NOT one of them.
If you order seeds or gardening supplies, then Gurney's can be great and fast to ship. They have serious discounts that are hard to pass up, like $100 off a $200 order. You really can't beat that deal.
However, I will never bother to order plants or bare roots from them ever again. In 2020 and 2021, Covid was creating a serious impact on shipping dates -- I get it! I was patient and understanding even though plants were being mailed out way past the initially promised ship date, during the scorching temperatures of high summer, resulting in plants arriving either dead or mostly dead. I never contacted them to complain. And even though there are still massive issues with supply chains and shipping in 2022, I don't think those are the reasons I still haven't received two items out of the three I ordered almost TWO MONTHS ago. When I ordered those items, the site clearly showed that they were in stock and would be shipped within TWO WEEKS. Nope. I suspect they oversell items like an airline overbooks seats on a plane. The estimated shipment dates in their order confirmation email quietly pass by without any follow-up from them. Then they'll eventually ship out one item at least a month late, and the estimated dates for the remaining items in the shipping notification email for the first item will show that anywhere from two weeks to a month have been added on. Even those dates are likely to get pushed back further without any word from Gurney's
Can't Gurney's computer system track the past-due dates for the items they've sold and send out emails to the waiting customers to say, "Hey, we're sorry we're late. Here's the new estimated date. Would you like to keep waiting or request a refund?" But then that would invite people to do what is well within their rights to cancel massively overdue orders and not be strung along for months as the weather continues to get hotter and hotter.
I would give Gurney's a zero if that were possible. The tomato plants were all dead when received. Called customer service to get a refund. No refund was permitted but you can have replacement plants. I was told they would prioritize the new ones. That was a lie. I called a month later and was told they still wont ship them for another month. DO NOT buy from this company.
I ordered an assortment of seeds, trees, and pepper plants in December. Most were set to be shipped by early spring. The seeds were alright. The pepper plants arrived in mid may (after being back ordered for over a month) in plastic wrapped boxes and were brown, dry, and said plant immediately. I did- planted, watered and they have yet to come back to life. Then the trees were back ordered multiple times. It is the first week of June and they've just arrived as 8 sticks (a mix of 3 tree varieties) which are all plastic wrapped together with no labels or leaves. Literally they tied the 8 sticks together, no dirt or anything and stuck a plastic bag over them. They just look like 3-4 ft long sticks with almost no roots. There were no instructions for planting in the box, but instead an email saying we've created an online video series for your convenience. Absolutely inconvenient. I will never purchase from Gurneys again. We have ordered and planted over 30 trees and 100 shrubs from other companies over the past 2 years and the quality, speed, and general aliveness of those plants is immeasurable when compared to the horrible experience with gurneys
The apple trees were only a 2 ft twig and a 3 ft twig no branches the Roma bean seeds had to be old none came up I started in the house also started half outside nothing and the sweet potatoes were half dead I'm done with gurney
Answer: Phone call the wait is moderate. However they just read from a script so are not helpful. I requested to speak to a manager. One wasnt available so the rep said one would call me by end oaf day. Of course I never got a call back from a manager.
Answer: It use to be a good company, now it seems like they don't care about quality.
Answer: Johnny's Selected Seeds is great for seeds. They are always tested for viability and the company is employee-owned. https://www.johnnyseeds.com/
