I had bought from Gurney's previously and was happy with the product quality. I did not know about their customer service as I had no need to contact them. This time around, though, I placed an order in late March and was charged for it two days later. The promised ship date range was March 30 to April 13, come and gone now without a shipment. The only way to contact them is (1) by phone, on your dime as they don't have an 800 number or (2) by sending them an e-mail. (The chat line on their website does not work). Because I got two conflicting e-mails from them following my order placement, one confirming the order and a second saying I had left the item in my shopping cart, I tried both methods. My e-mail resulted in an eventual response, OVER A WEEK LATER. While waiting for a response I tried the phone. My call got me to an individual whom I could barely hear despite my repeated requests for him to speak louder, whose English was difficult to understand at best when I could hear him and who was unable to answer my question.
So, be smarter than I was and stay away from Gurney's.
Ordered in January. Mid April now and still waiting for most of plants to arrive.
Wait and wait and wait and go to their website every couple of days. The promised date of delivery keeps changing, but the products are never sent. Getting too warm to be planting trees now.
They delivered a dead, dry stick for a tree.
Some of their stuff has grown though, so it isn't all that bad.
Won't be buying again from them.
Placed an order on 1/6/22 for some blueberry plants, strawberry plants and two small bags of special fertilizer. They charged my AMX the next day, shipped the 2 small bags(1lb each) and never shipped the plants. I called and they made multiple promises that they never kept, Finally well past planting time and after multiple calls I cancelled order and asked for a refund. They granted the plant refund but refused to grant a refund for the 56.00 shipping for the plants I never got and cancelled before they shipped to me. This company is at best unconcerned with keeping customers. I asked to have a manager call me and that never happened. Will now go through the dispute process with AMX but keep in mind that if they string you along for more than 90 days(as they did me) the dispute process probably won't work. They have lost me as a customer for life and I suggest others look for company's that are customer focused.
Ordered tomato plants big mistake plants were very small, wilted and brown packed in sleeves that were difficult to open plants were only good for tossing in trash dumpster BIG BIG waste of money. Most awful plants I have seen. Contacted Gurneys customer service by phone and they seemed very uninterested and was no way helpful. Only offered a credit on future orders which I will lose as I will never order from gurneys again. Plants looked as if they were from discards of other companies If I could rate plants and customer service below 0 I would gurneys is a rip off company not caring about products or service SAVE YOUR TIME AND MONEY BY AVOIDING ORDERING FROM GURNEYS
Incredible incompetence! Order two items, three each. Prices not good, shipping high... but they came.
Yet only five items. Contact the site, they finally sent the last of the items. Open it up... they sent the wrong item. And you wonder why once great companies fail. This is why they fail: They spend a lot of advertisements, a lot on promo... then they don't care about the customers they lure in. It would be like ordering a can of coke and getting a half filled glass of prune juice.
Ordered seeds in packets and seed potatoes and Took a month to get them. They sent me a time schedule on when they were to be shipped. Then They lied and sent another time schedule for a month later. Contacted company twice to no avail. Never buy again from this company. So buyers Beware. Sad way to run a business..
My seed potatoes came rotten. They gave me a credit which I used fo seeds. They said they sent them February 25th still no seeds. What a crappy company.
Gurneys is truly a pathetic company! Multiple trash plants that never took even following their directions for planting and using quality dirt as well as their nutrients. What a waste of money.
They will then send you a certificate that's short for what you purchased saying I bought my items on sale and the sale is over so instead of getting say 18 trees replaced I get 12 trees with the replacement certificate. Then, On top of that, they will not honor the certificates because they sent one order to collections I never paid because the plants do not grow! So I'm out hundreds of dollars and the slime balls still expect a payment for the minimal unpaid bill. Total piss poor customer service and product!
I ordered some plants months in advance. At the time they said they where in stock and couldn't ship untill the fall. So i proceeded to order and pay for said plants. They charged my card immediately. Now lets move forward to the fall. Instead of my plants i get a card in the mail stating that my order is out of stock and i will be refunded promptly. Yes i got my money back but not until months later. I know its not a huge amount of money. But thats not the point. You take peoples money saying you have a product for sale IN STOCK and then keep the money for months before refunding it and telling them they aren't going to get what they bought. Its not right.
I ordered two jujube trees from Gurney's on 11/14/20 and none of them are growing leaves until today, I have contacted the company two time via E-mail and never got a reply.
I originally order the 10 pack of bare root strawberrys. I got 1 out of 10. I contacted cs and they said they were issue a credit and I asked why they couldn't just send me the other 9. The dude, sounded like he didn't want to but did anyways. I got them and planted them. They were doing really well and then all of a sudden just died. I emailed them again and they said they'd mail them out and then I get another email stating they weren't going to and they issued me 2 credit totalling $30 but the 2nd credit I can't use cause their website site says there's a 0 balance on it. I contacted them again and they told me to call them as someone had to apply it manually to my order. But I already used the $20 for seeds. Shipping is 5.99. So, half that $10 certificate is useless. At this point in the year, anything I want is either out of stock or wayyy too much and it's just not worth it.
The tracking number they issued me is a recycled tracking number from someone else's order and says it was delivered in April to a different state than where I live. So, tracking the delivery of this order is not happening. I contacted cs and they told me what I just said.
I will be be using a different online nursery for any future orders.
I am so so sorry I didn't read the reviews before ordering from these losers. I usually order from Plant Delights Nursery and should have stuck with them this year…Plant Delights Nursery actually delivers items quickly - because they know they are dealing with live plants that need sunlight, water, and TLC, plus they actually CARE about the living products they sell, unlike Gurneys which must be a company of morons or plant haters. I am so furious! I ordered a cherry tree and the poor thing is in some hot warehouse somewhere, with no sunlight and no water. Gurney's Phillipino "customer service" dude was kind but useless…he wasn't able to tell me any more than I already knew; my poor cherry tree is dying in transit. I hate this company and truly wish I had read all these other reviews before I ordered from them. Lesson learned the hard way.
I have ordered from gurneys for my significant garden for years now but the last 2 years they have been awful. I placed my order at the beginning of the year so I could have everything I needed for my spring crop and haven't received anything in time to plant on schedule. I did get a couple partial deliveries for my winter crop but they shorted me multiple items. Still waiting for some of the spring order to ship. I've emailed and asked for updates or a credit and got no response... ever. Then I sat on hold forever to get someone who barely speaks English to tell me it's all on the way. That was months ago, still shows ready to ship. $200 down the drain. I'll never use them again.
First time Gurney's shopper. Bought 5 orders of 6454 TOMATO DEFIANT HYBRID PLTS. They were dead on arrival. Replacement order is too late to plant. Customer service argued and refused my request for a full refund on these plants. Will be filing complaint with the Better Business Bureau.
This is one of the worst companies that I have ever dealt with. By the time you get your order, the season is over. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! I have had several orders and they are all months late, and they have never shipped when they say they will.
Ordered 5 tomato plants. I planted them as soon as they arrived. They all look pitiful but a couple look just awful. I'm not sure how long it will take them to recover- if they ever do. Had several items canceled by Gurneys and I finally canceled the last 3 items because I'm done planting my garden with no news from Gurneys. Took 2 phone calls to get it done.
I ordered 4 tomatoe plants 2 pepper plants just got here all dead will never order anything from them again
I will never ever ever order from gurney's again. All 3 tomato plants arrived dead. They arrived today and I carefully unpackaged them and I've included a photo of how they look. Pathetic!
Website says they have things in stock, only to find out they are "backordered" after waiting 2 months and then calling them to get an update. All customer service can do is say "sorry". You may eventually get you stuff but you will definitely miss that growing year.
Just received my tomato plants today and they are in terrible shape, out of 8 plants only one might have a chance, this is the second order in a month that has been bad, the first was strawberry plants that were all dead but on plant out of ten, which they did make right and send another offer but only 6 were good out of ten and now these tomato plants, when you call you get a non English speaker customer representative and it's had to communicate! Will not order from them again! Very dissatisfied
Answer: Phone call the wait is moderate. However they just read from a script so are not helpful. I requested to speak to a manager. One wasnt available so the rep said one would call me by end oaf day. Of course I never got a call back from a manager.
Answer: It use to be a good company, now it seems like they don't care about quality.
Answer: Johnny's Selected Seeds is great for seeds. They are always tested for viability and the company is employee-owned. https://www.johnnyseeds.com/
