I placed an order for tomato and pepper plants in early April. I live in a hot climate and HAD to get these plants in the ground ASAP, because it quickly gets so hot that nothing grows. They told me the plants were ready to ship and would do so in 2 weeks max. Well, I just today received the order nearly 2 months later!
The worst part is that they changed the expected shipping dates without a word, like others have mentioned. When I contacted support they just gave me a canned response, and said they would put a note on my order to have it shipped right away. Lies! That was weeks ago. Some rush! Now it's far too late to plant.
On top of that, the plant quality is downright awful. The plants are far too tiny for what I paid. They're all clearly nutrient deficient with yellow leaves and purple stems. One of the tomato plants was nothing but a stick! How can any company ship something that's near dead?
The roots were wrapped in tight plastic that probably starved them of air. When I unwrapped them, the dirt was dry. It's a wonder anything lived through the mail in our heat. Hopefully some of the plants can recover enough to plant in the fall, but I have little hope.
I would NEVER order from here again. The only reason I did was because they lied and said plants were ready to ship.
I have ordered from Gurneys in the past, they sent smaller than expected items but had good prices ( with a coupon). Fast forward to a Juilet cherry bush ordered 3 months ago. The estimated shipping date keeps changing. Upon contacting an employee last week, they said my order would be put on "rush". Not sure what type of rush they are in, but my order still hasn't shipped. Unfortunately the "prime" warm day/cooler night window is rapidly closing in my region. Roots need this weather to get established and I will have to work WAY harder to make sure my cherry bush stays alive (if it ever shows up). Absolutely disgusted with this company and will never order from them again.
I wish I would have seen these reviews before I ordered from Gurney!
We placed a large order thinking that they would know what grows in MN. Save your money and go to a local nursery! They will have a better idea of what grows in your area, with better quality and customer service. We ended up with little tiny things that will take years to grow, and one dead one that they can't replace for who knows how long. Waste of money! Won't be doing that again!
I have been waiting now for over a month and despite the items ordered being "available for shipping" they have yet to ship them. I plan to cancel my order week or barring that institute a chargeback. Absolutely useless customer service too.
It was a warm and sunny day in early spring when I decided to place an order for some seeds and plants from this company. I was excited to start my garden and their website had a great selection of products. I spent a good amount of time browsing and carefully selecting around 23 items, spending a total of $136.
At first, everything seemed to be going smoothly. I received an email confirmation of my order and was given an estimated delivery date. However, as the days turned into weeks, I started to become concerned. Only a few items had been shipped, and when I checked the status of the rest, they were still listed as "in stock and ready to ship."
I contacted the company several times, but each time I was given the same generic response that my order would be shipped soon. But it never was. Finally, I had enough and decided to cancel my order. It was the first week of May and I couldn't wait any longer.
When I asked for a refund, they only refunded me $75, even though I had paid $136 for the order. I felt cheated and scammed by this company. It was a disappointing experience, to say the least. I would not recommend them to anyone and advise others to avoid them at all costs.
I ordered over $100 worth of plants from Gurneys. They all came in different shipments, two of the plants (Gardenia and Honeysuckle) coming from "Southern Living" with the tags still attached. Are you kidding me?! They also advertised the plants as being much bigger than the ones that arrived, and none of them were "naked root" as the website proudly proclaims. All of them came with rootballs bunched from being started in a pot sans the pot. So weird. I'm still waiting on one plant to even be shipped to me. This is such a waste of resources and a dumb business model to be quite honest. It seems they're a third party that probably ships from other nurseries. Shop local instead, never buying plants online every again.
2 stevia plants arrived dead, they sent 2 more which also arrived dead.
They want me to plant 3" dead plants for 4-6 weeks and see if they live.
What a joke.
I placed my order January 24th 2023. I was given a shipping date of 1/30/23 with 4 weeks to deliver. I only ordered seeds ($100). My planting season for starting the seeds starts in April at the latest. By May I want a 3" to 6" plant. It is now 4/25/23 and I still do not have my seeds. They are not lost, they did not ship until the end of April. If and when I ever get my seeds, it is way too late to plant them this year.
Jan 8 0rdered5 trees all in stock.April 16 received one tree saying the other 4 out of stock. You can see from my photos how irate I am.What is their gimmick. They had guaranteed payment. Why do they do this and shamefully say sorry.Causing a loss of enjoyment.Who supervises this blatant fraud.
These people take your money with no intention of shipping your items, when you call there is no customer service available.
I was able to speak with a live person in customer service, but they did not resolve my concerns about a shipping date. I had asked that my shipment be delayed until I could possibly plant the elderberries I ordered without having to dig through three feet of snow. This conversation occurred about two weeks before the shipment was made, so I cannot understand why the shipment could not have been delayed.
The plants were a good price. I hope the quality is good.
"The message I sent to Gurney's) Received the above order #*******200 and to say the least very disappointed in the quality of not only the trees but the way they were packaged. The one tree was no bigger than a pencil diameter and the other was slightly bigger. They came wrapped in plastic and a few newspaper shreds that I guess were supposed to encase the roots. The trees were out of the plastic wrapping when I opened the box and the roots were dried out. I have ordered trees from other nurseries and they came with the roots wrapped in wet, grass like substance. For the amount I paid for these trees I would think you would take better care of shipping and handling. I took pictures of the items I am writing about but do not see where I can attach them. If this is the normal for your company this will be the last order. Jay Miller
I ordered and paid for 2 fruit trees in November 2022. I have been waiting patiently but yesterday March 23rd I emailed to check on my order. I received this email today. Thank you for contacting us regarding your order. I am sorry to inform you that the remaining items on your order *******2200 have gone out of stock and the order has been canceled. A $79.98 credit is being processed to your PayPal account.
I WILL NEVER ORDER AGAIN and now I am waiting to see if my money is returned to my account
They advertise 20, 30, 50% off. Plus free shipping. When I called to place my order, I was told the codes all have expired. I had 5 different codes. Even with the one code it came out more than the advertised price. Good thing I called to place my order. Asked to speak to the manager. There isn't one.
Very disgraceful.
I orderd 3 packs of defiant tomato seeds for almost 8 bucks each and it took 3 weeks to get them when i did get them and i was ready to pot them i found 4 seeds in one pack 9 seeds in another pack and 11 seeds in another pack. Now for 24 dollars for the order is not good.Icall them and the one i spoke to said there was nothing she could do. In short i got ripped off and they stuck it to me i don't recammend this company. Things are tuff for everyone but to take advantage of us. VERY DISAPOINTED
Seeds that I ordered online were shown as available, order confirmation showed shipping in 1 to 3 weeks, but seeds didn't arrive. Found out seeds would not be shipped until 4/21 from customer service, which is not practical since I plant tomato plants in mid-May. They never notified me of the change. Canceled my entire order.
I placed an order when they had a sale. None of my plants came. I had to reach out, after 3 months of the shipping date getting pushed over and over, to find out they had a shipping problem. So they issued me a store credit. Well of course I couldn't get as much now that the sale was over, but I gave it another shot. Again, delay after delay. Finally checked my order status and it said canceled. Without any contact. So I reach out. But they insisted I bought that order with a coupon so they refused to refund my money… DO NOT buy from this company. They scam and steal.
I placed an order in August for 3 items. First frost was last night and have not received the order. So far they have only shipped 1 item as of 10/31. Just got a note card saying part of the order was cancelled. Bad company and bad service. Will never buy from them again.
Ordered 3 momth ago July. Very disappointed at the tiny plant I just received. Refer to picture the large plant just bought in Oct is a beautiful plant through another Nursery. This tiny blackberry just received from Gurney's very disappointing.
Still waiting to receive my 2 Raspberry bushes. Preparing to be sadly disappointed
I feel a bit ripped off. So much for ordering early.
Well, here it is October 8th and I finally got the rest of my order, a diseased looking raspberry plant. Mind you, I placed my order on February 24th, and received the bulk of my order in July, when the order was supposed to be shipped in April... I received 70 strawberry crowns, 60 of which were completely DOA. The blueberry "bush," huckleberry "bush," and 3 raspberry runners were alive, but ridiculously puny considering the price i paid for them. When I emailed them about this, I was promptly sent a run of the mill response about plants being under stress during shipping. Um, I've been gardening for 13 seasons now, and I most certainly don't know it all, but I can tell the difference between a stressed plant and a dead one. I sent another email a few week later with pictures of the dead crowns and never received a response back... So for around $100, I received a scraggly blueberry bush, a 4inch huckleberry bush, 3 raspberry runners, a diseased raspberry plant and 10 strawberry crowns... Unbelievable Gurney's. You're poor customer service and horrendous product quality lost you guys a lot of business, because I've let all of my gardening friends know.
Answer: Phone call the wait is moderate. However they just read from a script so are not helpful. I requested to speak to a manager. One wasnt available so the rep said one would call me by end oaf day. Of course I never got a call back from a manager.
Answer: It use to be a good company, now it seems like they don't care about quality.
Answer: Johnny's Selected Seeds is great for seeds. They are always tested for viability and the company is employee-owned. https://www.johnnyseeds.com/
