Placed a simple order for seeds on Feb 4th. Received an email on the 7th saying the ordered shipped and should arrive in 10 business days. Called today, the 27th of the month to let them know I had not gotten anything yet. They now say to wait until March 15th to see if the seeds arrive!
If they shipped on the 7th and it takes 10 business days to receive, then the order is either lost or never went out. Not hard to figure out!

No longer a real nursery
November 19, 2018

They used to be a real nursery, but have turned into some kind of aggregator or secondary shipper. They have no quality control, and absolutely no gardeners or nursery people! Customer service is overseas, and they cannot connect you to anyone who knows anything about the plants they sell. I was sold "thornless" boysenberries that are filled with thorns. When I called to ask about the plants, I was appalled that they had no way to let me speak or email anyone who even knows what a boysenberry is.

I just bought tomato and pepper plants. When they arrived after being in the mail for 9 days the peppers were needing water but still green, the tomato plants were in horrible shape and probably sick when they were shipped. Whole plant yellow, most of the leaves off or dead. I have emailed customer service twice with no answer.

I ordered 5 plants from them - they looked a little rough and dry but planted them as soon as received... seemed to do alright through summer. Come next spring a couple didn't seem to come to life so I called to get replacements like their gardening guarantee states - and the woman tells me they aren't in stock and will have to issue me a credit. Disappointing but works... until I see on the website that one of the items is still available. I call back and mention this, to be told that the replacement shipping window is closed for this season... but I can buy another one to have shipped out ($14.99 plus shipping) - I only paid $7.50 the first time using the 50% coupon. I asked how I was supposed to call when it's still dormant, stating it was dead - guess that's what you have to do - call when there is snow on the ground to be able to get a replacement. Very poor way to run a business - very poor customer service. Not worth the aggravation.

DO NOT BUY PLANTS FROM GURNEY'S! I ordered 12 tomato plants from this nursery. They arrived poorly packaged. They were not able to get fresh air. Instead of being in starter pots they were wrapped BARE ROOT in plastic... TWICE. They were yellow and limp. They were not properly hardened for zone 3. DEspite this I decided to go ahead an plant them because I am generally pretty good at bringing sad lants back to life. NOT THESE. They are all dead. It only took 3 days! STAY AWAY!

I ordered 3 tango hummingbird mint plants. They were all dried out and dead when they arrived. Even worse, when I called to report this, the customer service representative did not act like this was unusual. She was rude. Whatever happened to class? If she worked for me, I'd fire her. I got my money back, but to be honest, a simple apology should be STANDARD procedure. These plants are packaged in such a way that you have to literally tear into the hard plastic that surrounds the tiny seedlings. So even if the seedlings were alive, you'd probably kill them trying to get to them! I have dealt with mail order plants before and never had any problems.

Ordered seed that I wanted to start in doors, went past the estimated time of arrival and i called them. They told me there is a 4 week waiting period for all seeds as all seed company's do this. The other places i order from do not seem to have that policy.
Still have not shipped at all just waiting for something. Planting already past time to plant. Will not give me a date as to when they will be shipped. Terrible servicee

My husband ordered strawberry plants as they advertise we ship when you should plant in your area. What a lie. They shipped March 19th and they arrived today March 29th. We live in NE Ohio and can have killing frost or freeze into May. We had snow on the ground last week. No way to get out to plant. All the plants look dead and they were dry as a bone after 10 days in shipping mode. Why ship Fed EX if all they do is turn it over to post office? That means more of a delay. I complained and was informed if they didn't grow we had a year of customer satisfaction. How does that make up for shipping at the wrong time. NO ONE in our area can plant strawberries outside. Never will we order from them again. Will see if the corn comes up but right now not in a good mood with their system.

Unacceptable product
October 7, 2017

Extremely disappointing. Waited a long time for the order to ship and even though my money was taken, the product shipped was not complete. When I called I was informed that they could no longer fill my order (way to let me know ahead of time!), but I would get a reimbursement. This level of customer service is at the very least inadequate and at the most an insult. The bulbs were packed loose in a plastic bag and had taken quite a beating. I have ordered from other garden-supply merchants and was pleased with the results... this was practically insulting and showed the least amount of product care I have ever seen, and I spent early 25 years as a Purchasing Supervisor. Shame on you. I will not be buying from you again and will advise members in my gardening club and on-line blog to avoid your service going forward.

So disappointed
July 6, 2017

I bought seed and tomato plants from them for first time... won't do it again. The live plants didn't look robust and healthy when they arrived ( on time as promised) and now 7 weeks in the ground they haven't grown at all - still look like the day they arrived. Sweet corn, sunflower seeds have failed and the peas are sporadic. I'm an experienced country girl and will go back to the tried and true names. 2017 garden is a write off... so disappointed

What a JOKE!
May 7, 2017

I ordered seeds and strawberry roots 3months ago. I receive the seeds a month and a half later. (Three weeks late on planting.) then when I finally received the box of strawberry roots I cld not wait to get them planted seeing it was three weeks past the planting time frame. Opened the box to two AZALEA PLANTS! I called and complained stating I ordered strawberries and the order was wrong and they said oh that 's cause we ran out of strawberries... then they offered me another kind of strawberry. I said you ran out and decided to ship me azalea plants instead of a different kind of strawberry. The the hell do I want azalea plants for! Now it's almost 4 months later and still no strawberries! I will NEVER EVER USE THIS COMPANY AGAIN. Don't waste you time or money this business is a joke that send there calls over seas so you can't even understand the person who you are talking to. Had to rate them and I wld have given a zero but it was not an option!

Placed my order on 3/25/17 and it's 5/5/17 and have received 2 shipping delay notices so far (we're sorry, but...). As soon as I called today, they said they would put my order in to ship today. WTF? This is not the first time, but this is the worst, and the last!

Plantings can be time sensitive, Gurney's does not seem to care. Seed potatoes were supposed to be planted one week ago--arrived today. No tracking. Never again.

Along with many other customers, I am very upset with the poor delivery time of my order. I will never order from Gurney's again. I called three times now and still do not have my seeds. There are many other seed companies that are waiting for my business.

Don't order!
April 4, 2017

Wish I would have read reviews first. I ordered over $100 in seeds and plants. Original shipping estimate was mid march for seeds. It is now April and after 3 phone calls have not received seeds which I wanted to start inside. I asked for a refund which they told me the system wouldn't let them do until it was in shipping status? They are currently holding my money hostage...

They charge high prices for tiny inferior plants. They take MONTHS to send seeds.
The asparagus plants I bought on Amazon, 2 years in a row, were thick, juicey, with nubs started.
The ones I received from Gurneys, more expensive, were tiny and dried up
The honeyberries I bought from another company were 2 ft tall, for $15.
The Gurneys cost $30 each and were 6 inches tall!
I ordered black raspberries and they sent me BLACKBERRIES!
Don't buy from them, you'll be disapointed.

I called them 2 weeks after my order, requesting delivery, got Indian woman who said essentially nothing. Six weeks after ordering, sent them a nasty e-mail alleging fraud. The next week I received 2 different postcards that everything I ordered wouldn't be available to ship for another month. DO NOT EVER ORDER ONE SEED FROM THIS COMPANY!
