It's been about 11 weeks now and still no seeds. I contacted Gurney's asking for a tracking number and they completely ignored me! My order just says 'shipped', they don't provide you with any other tracking info. Will not buy from here ever again!
The product is good but they do not stock everything one could want as far as seeds go. I ordered my products in January and just got an update that some of my order will not ship until July six months after I ordered. I asked for a refund if that portion and was told no. I asked where Gurneys was located and was told the Philippians. No wonder. I won't order again.
We have done business with Gurneys for 50 years. Received two packets of cucumbers that arrived with no seeds in a large order. We Asked for a replacement and they wanted to charge $5.00 to ship. They would only take a 55 cent stamp on an envelope to ship. FIVE DOLLARS, are you kidding me? Called them back and asked to be taken off their catalog list.
Ordered mid January... still no seed, and no communication... Burpees delivers within 10 business day. Covid is Gurneys excuse... I am so tired of that $#*!... I will NEVER buy from Gurneys again... ordered $150 dollars worth of seed & they do not seem to care. It's very unfortunate because the seed is good, but customer service is horrible... busiest time of their year & all they have is excuses!

I ordered three packets of seeds on November 25,2020. My credit card was charged immediately when I hit enter. Their website said all three seeds were available immediately. I called Gurneys customer service on December 4,2020 and they said they will put a "rush" on my order. It is now December 13,2020 and I have not received my seeds. I did received an email that said my seeds were shipped via Fedex with a tracking number. The tracking number did not exist with Fedex. I received another email that said it was shipped USPS. I wish I would have read these reviews before I ordered from them. Lesson learned.
I ordered several plants in July of 2020, here it is in October and I just received my first plant. The box I received was supposed to have 2 of my 4 items in it but only had 1. When I called customer service to alert them to this, they told me that it was fed ex's fault!?! How is FED EX responsible for their failure to pack a box? At first they were going to resend the missing item, then they didn't have it, then they were going to give me a credit because it was "someone else's fault". After 25 minutes I finally convinced them to give me a refund as we are now out of planting season for the item. Never buying from this company again and I will not buy this brand from the big box stores that carry them either.
Ordered a half dozen raspberry plants which arribed in very poor condition. Only 1 survived the season whereas my other half dozen raspberrys from Lowe's had survived and are thriving. They are of the same variety. Also had no luck from the seeds which I bought at a premium from them compared to the seeds I'd bought elsewhere. Every year they just keep getting worse. For what they charge they certainly fail to deliver. Just stay away.
I had ordered a large packet of the ruby red carrots to fulfill a fall order to two large restaurants, who had previously purchased products our small business made. I planted enough seed on a rainy day, and followed through with regular watering. Because this was a late summer planting with expected picking after early frost (October) which increases the sugar content, I made sure that even if there was only a 50% germination rate, it would give me enough product to make the sales. After a few weeks, less than 1% germinated! I scrabbled to find similar seed from other companies but to no avail. I communicated the problem with customer service and all they offered was credit for future purchases, yeah right! I had to contact the restaurants and they were not happy. With everything going on since Covid-19, they decided not to do any future business with my company. For a small business, the loss of an average $1,500 purchases each was a blow to me. They are well -established and were going to spread my good reputation for my 6 year old business. I'm really screwed because of the failings of this company. I even shared with customer service, the impact of these bad seeds but nothing but sorry and is there anything I needed to buy! I suggested a larger type of refund, which went nowhere. You couldn't pay me enough to ever do business with Gurney's again! Any catalog sent will be used for firewood kindling. Good riddance!
Ordered on April 1 and got my order June 15. Had to complain twice. They finally acknowledged and arbitrarily gave me a $20 credit for my next order. Which is no better than the usual catalog incentive. My sweet corn is now 4' tall and withered; no corn and no more growth. I still think highly of their seeds but their order processing this year is a complete ripoff.
Very poor products arrived months after ordering. Razmatazz grape bush for $49.99 arrived in a 4" pot. It was mostly just a twig with about 4 leaves. Customer service not good either. Long wait time and representative from India, Will not order from them again
How do these people stay in business? They have a guarentee that means nothing. I got a bare root cotinus and it didn't survive my extremely careful treatment on transplant to avoid much shock. Their customer service just said "keep watered." DUH!
Never again.
Earlier this year I ordered a dogwood and two gooseberry bushes, which were both 2" high; all three failed to leaf out and died. On 3/25 I ordered six each tomato and pepper plants with expected shipment in early May. They did not ship until 6/5 and did not arrive until 6/12. The tomatoes were 2" high and stunted, shriveled, and yellowed. The peppers were green stems with no leaves. I have photos. I would never purchase such poor quality plants from a nursery, but I am now housebound due to the coronavirus. I asked for a refund but have had no response. I am a lifetime gardener. Gurneys has probably taken every order they could and then shipped inferior plants to make a swift buck off of people desperate for plants to be shipped to them. Shame on them.
I placed an order early this year & they kept pushing back the ship date. Two of the items were cancelled as they were about to be sent - at the end of June! The third was sent but lost between UPS & the post office. Of course, that is now out of stock too. Same thing happened with out of stock items last fall too. Will NOT order from them again!
Back in March I ordered 2 vines, a hardy Carolina Jasmine and a Hops vine nugget. I really should have listened to the reviews, because as it turned out it was a complete waste my time and my money. In June I was advised that they didn't have the Jasmine for which I was given a refund.
I received the hops vine in May it didn't look good but I hoped it would grow, unfortunately it didn't grow. When I called customer service I was advised it was very slow growing and to wait a bit. I did further research after hanging up with customer service and read its a very fast growing vine. I called back spoke with another representative she offered me a credit which I didn't want because I will NEVER order from them again. I asked for any other vine they have in stock, the only thing this had was the hops vine so she sent me a replacement. I can't believe they sent out what they did which was a dead twig in soil. I called customer service today asking for a supervisor was advised someone would call me back. I am writing this review 6 hours after my call and no one has called me back. As a avid gardener I have always found from the many companies I have purchased soooooo many plants from lol, that they always went out of their way to resolve any issues. NOT GURNEY'S...
Don't waste your money.
I was so excited to find this particular tree altogether. It arrived broken and dried out in a plastic bag in a broken box. There was no soil, no moisture, no packing material. I tried to to bring it back to life, hoping it was only mostly dead. No luck. I will be refunded only because I used American Express. The man who answered couldn't care less about poor packaging and wanted me to take credit. Hahahahaha
I ordered a GOJI Berry plant and they delivered as dead completely.
1. They are not ready to give a replacement.
2. They given a replacement certificate which I have to pay shipping $6 again.
TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE,
Don't go with this..
I got a ga. Peach tree. A year later.it not doing anything. I email no response. Called got put on hold on how to fix the problem.and was going to buy more if did what they said it would thanks 50 dollars for a dead tree
I ordered $650 worth of arborvitae emrald green shrubs. When I received them, the were far from emerald green. They didn't come with the roots encompassed with soil and the roots were dry as hell and the branches were already Browning and wilting. I planted them anyway and have been nurturing them for about a month. They don't look like they're going to make it.
Pathetic!
Smallest, most pitiful plants I have ever bought. One of the three was dead and two were smaller than promised and in poor condition. I have grown tomato plants for years. The next time I will go to Laurel's Heirloom Tomatoes in Californiashe ships the largest, most beautiful, picture-perfect plants I have ever ordered by mail.
Gurney, you should be embarrassed for the pitiful plants you shipped to me in Kentucky!
I originally ordered raspberry plants they were rotted when they arrived. They replaced them with more rotted plants. So since they won't give your money back I ordered flowers I believe it was June never received a them until the beginning of November and the rest end of November. Needless to say no of them came up this year. I always heard that Gurneys was good. NOT! So I have nothing to show for $60 worth of plants and over $40 in shipping. It makes me sick I wasted that much money.
Answer: Phone call the wait is moderate. However they just read from a script so are not helpful. I requested to speak to a manager. One wasnt available so the rep said one would call me by end oaf day. Of course I never got a call back from a manager.
Answer: It use to be a good company, now it seems like they don't care about quality.
Answer: Johnny's Selected Seeds is great for seeds. They are always tested for viability and the company is employee-owned. https://www.johnnyseeds.com/
