Not happy
March 9, 2017

The food arrived with maple syrup and rice vinegar all over everything Onions were brown and other veggies were wilted. Could not use any of the ingredients. I called to cancel and they said they would issue me a credit. I checked my credit card statement today and they charged me $80.94. I called to dispute it and they refused and were very rude.

I had the same experience
February 13, 2017

You don't really get a chance to "try it" for free, because the fine print is that you have to cancel on the day you receive your first box, probably before you've even made the first meal. I was pretty unhappy. However, I called to complain and they did give me a $25 discount on the second box.

Exceptional!
February 11, 2017

I've ordered meals for a month now and am completely hooked! The produce is much better than what I can find at my grocery and appreciate the produce is organic which other similar services don't offer. I'm willing to pay extra for this and knowing I'm not putting pesticides in my body. Recipes have all been great and I've tried many new items. I find the service to be cost effective because I'm getting the portions necessary to make the recipe only so no waste. Several recipes I've made I've had more than enough food for one or two more meals. The farmers they are sourcing from really provide outstanding quality. You find out what foods really should taste like!

Updated 6/2019 as they have changed several things: I initially tried Green Chef in 2017. The food was good, but you weren't allowed to pick your own meals, they picked for you based on things you would eat such as fish or chicken. Plus the cost was about 20$ more per box than most of the other services. So I cancelled. Recently they sent an email that they had changed to allowing you to pick meals and offered a discount to come back. So I tried it again. The first box sat in a UPS warehouse for 5 days so they gave me a free replacement box. The second box was missing the shrimp meal I ordered, so they gave me a discount for a third box. The first time I tried Green Chef I liked the food. This time, not so much. And it is still more costly than most of the other services. You still get pre-made sauces and some pre-chopped vegetables, which helps cut down cooking time but means it won't last as long as ingredients in the fridge. It is still organic. They now have several different menus including gluten-free, keto, pescatarian, heart smart, vegetarian and omnivore. Each menu has 4 to 6 choices with many of the choices repeated on different menus. Unfortunately, though the meals sound good they don't taste that great- especially for the high price. And I ordered meals with chicken tenders twice- the chicken was disgusting. It didn't resemble a "tender," there were gristle tabs on all the pieces, when you take it out of the package it is so pulverized it sticks to your hands like a paste and when you cook it it seems more like chicken crumbles. They did answer emails about bad boxes, though I did have to contact them twice about the first box. So with the expense and the underwhelming flavors I wouldn't recommend Green Chef unless you just really want the lower-calorie meals with "healthy" ingredients and don't care if it tastes good. But it is okay to try if you can get a good enough discount on a box.

So many meal ingredient companies out there now. Before signing up for one, make sure you look at the meals for that shipping week and for the weeks ahead. Also check when you future meal kit (that you pay full price for) will ship. If just doing this to get the low intro initial shipment, make sure to skip the next mean delivery right after you sign up. Don't cancel--just skip that weeks delivery. If you don't, by the time you receive your first food box, the next one will be scheduled to ship. This is what they count on I believe.

If you end up liking the service, you can get that box to ship or see if you like the following shipment even better and continue like that. Always review the upcoming menu.

I loved the vegetarian meals I got and I got 3 meals for 2 for only $9.95 for my intro. If you get the right promo code, this is a super bargain! No other meal companies have that low of an initial cost. Everything was delicious and fresh! I would love to continue if I could afford it. But they do give you recipes so you can easily make them by buying ingredients at the local grocery with the exception of the Haloumi cheese which I can't find locally but was unique and sooo good.

So just read all the small print with any of these meal companies and you should enjoy some great fresh food and a feeling of accomplishment when you prepare them successfully! Kinda like a cooking lesson is included!

Terrible Service!
January 11, 2017

You have the option to cancel your subscription but the time period for doing that ends before you even get your first box. How do I know if I like the food. I don't even get to choose the recipes. Most of the food I got I don't even eat. And because I cancelled after I received the first box and they said they couldn't cancel my next order even though it doesn't ship for another week. RIP OFF! They are there to scam you and take your money! And the food is bland and terrible!

Produce is wilted when received and you do not always receive sufficient ingredients to complete the guaranteed number of servings. In addition, a week before Christmas week and New Year's week the company delayed the delivery date by one day for Christmas week and two days during New Year's week with insufficient notice. Very unreliable vendor that charges a high price. So many other options.

Best meal kit so far
January 1, 2017

I've tried seven meal kit delivery services so far. Green Chef is the best one. Better taste, ingredient quality, and portion size than any of the others. Only drawback: too much packaging (though this is a problem with all meal deliveries). Maybe Green Chef could team up with Whole Foods and offer meal kit PICK UP at the local store?

Bad Customer Service
December 27, 2016

I recommend that you all stay away from the food delivery service, Green Chef. The meals are not very good, lots of oils and small component ingredients, with bad storage/shelf life. The most annoying part is that the subscription is difficult to cancel. I was charged $230 for four boxes, and somehow the customer service representative found this justifiable. This is a rip-off company.

Healthy food should still taste good... but green chef charge $90 for 3 mediocre dishes which takes too long to prepare. For $90, I can eat a nice meal from restaurant and don't even have to lift a finger.
Don't buy from Green Chef, what a ripoff!

Awful.
September 29, 2016

My friend gave me a coupon for a green chef meal to try for free but I had to pay for shipping. The green chef meal came and I was charged $80.94. I contacted their costumer service saying I only wanted to try the 1 meal to try it and then decide later if I wanted to continue. They refused to give me my refund and said once I signed up for the free meal I automatically signed up for ongoing meals. I've asked multiple times to cancel it and they haven't and continue to charge me. What an awful way to market for a first time costumer who just wants to try it.

Good food/poor service
September 9, 2016

Enjoyed the meals but service is terrible.
Received box of food that was warm. Ice packs were not cold. The cheese was melted and chicken was warm. Notified them and were told we could have 50% off our next box. We paid 80$ for a box of food we couldn't use. The food is good but customer service is terrible

If you want organic and healthy this is for you. If you want cheap food laced with pesticides and preservatives and processed ingredients then McDonald's is the place for you.
It's Healthy restaurant quality meals for about half the price. There are some recipes that I had thought they were just OK but most of them are really delicious. Get what you pay for. It's a little bit more expensive to eat Paleo, but eating healthy is never cheap.
P.S. To the person that complained about pricing, why did you sign up in the first place if you didn't like the price!?

I bought a Groupon and the signed me up for auto renewal, there is not even a place on the website to cancel your enrollment in the auto renewal. There are better ways to waste your money and the products are outrageously overpriced

Supposed to be food for 6 meals... not. 3 meals for light eaters. My husband laughed. Wtf is Chorizo Seitan? Not meat! The ginger piece was too small to peel. The chicken thighs one weighed 2 ounces and the other weighed 3 before cooking! Flavorless. Gross.
