My mom, who is 90, lives with me and my husband (who actually lives in LA during the week and drives south for 2 hours to come home for weekends). I was in Maryland recently and bought these meals so my mom would not need to cook for the few days I was away, and they were great! I had one myself when I got back home (pork chop with sweet potato hash) and it was very good. Not only was the food good, but a 90-year old was able to manage the packaging which was an additional plus. So, that made all of us happy! Thank you for taking the time to consider these details - it makes a difference.
I has never ordered prepared food before. The meals were really fresh and, tasty. Even my husband really liked them, and that says alot. I love the convenience and the fact you can pause and in pause your subscription wirh one click.
The meals are delicious but I need to lose 50lbs and just started an Atkins style diet (keto) and found there to be too much sugar in the meals I chose.
This company is UNETHICAL. They charged me for second delivery within 24 hours of receiving the trial order, before I've even had a chance to try the food. I would not have minded if the food was edible. I ordered all seafood dishes. They all smelled RANCID we ended up throwing away most of it. It's worse than frozen food you would get from a grocery store. Contacted the company the following day and they REFUSED to make any adjustments or refund my money. I will be filing complaints with the BBB, and state consumer protection.
All the positive reviews on this site by first time reviewers all on same days are highly doubtful as legitimate reviews.
This concept may sound nice and convenient, but PLEASE think about what you are doing and why. First of all, the food is in plastic packaging just like any frozen dinner. Second, it tastes no better than a standard frozen dinner. Yes, the ingredients may be healthier, but look at the next point. I ordered SIX meals. They came in a huge 2' x 2' x 2' box filled with cold packs and an enormous amount of insulation. The packaging alone is about 15 pounds. AND THAT WAS ONLY FOR 6 MEALS! Think of all the waste that would be generated if everyone used this service. Are people really that lazy that they need to have sub-par food delivered to their door in packaging that would overfill their curbside garbage can? Ridiculous. I'm appalled by this company. I hope there are people who are more concerned about limiting landfill overcrowding than they are about a small bit of "convenience."
I'm so sorry to hear that you weren't satisfied with the meals themselves or the service.
Shipping meals safely does require some packaging materials to be used, of course, but we take care to lessen our impact on the environment as much and as often as we can, which is why everything in our packaging is either recyclable or biodegradable. The recycled denim insulation is biodegradable, the non-toxic gel in the ice packs is water-soluble and safe to dispose of in the sink, while everything else is recyclable.
I signed up because one of my coworker's loves the service. My first weeks order was an entire day late, they claim they give you tracking info, but it just links to their site with "your order has shipped" and no actual information.
When I realized my order was late on Thursday, I hopped online to make sure I wasn't going to be charged for my second week before I even got to try the food. It said I had until Sunday to make changes. My food arrived on Friday (a day late) while i was at work. And they charged me at 5pm on Friday, before I had even gotten home to TRY their food, and 2 days before the promised day to make changes (Sunday). Their phone customer service is only 9-3 M-F, which was useless. And when I emailed they didn't seem to care that they charged me without telling me. They basically told me I'm SOL. The food wasn't even that good.
I would have cancelled before Sunday, if I had gotten the chance. I certainly am not okay with paying $55 for it. And I don't want to do business with a company that cares so little about customer service. Shady. And since they did not inform me that they were charging me Friday, I consider it a fraudulent charge. You can't just take money from people's accounts whenever you please.
UPDATE: I appreciate that they are aware of their shipping tracking issues. Aside from the fact that their shipping is TERRIBLE since everyone I have talked to seems to have issues. Also the policy in their terms about refunding you if the shipment is late, is false.
As for the charge. I still have not gotten a refund, and the meals that the charge was FOR, did not ship. They should have shipped yesterday, to arrive tomorrow. So they took my money and have not even sent the product it was supposed to pay for. Yet they refuse to give me my money back either. This company is shady AF.
We wholeheartedly apologize for any confusion and inconveniences caused. Regarding the tracking information, that is something our web team is working to integrate on the Meal Planner page. We hope to have it updated sooner rather than later, as we fully understand the inconvenience caused currently.
Our billing process is outlined in our Terms & Conditions--it is certainly not our intention or desire to take money without notice or acknowledgment of doing so. We are so sorry that we weren't able to accommodate you as desired.
I never write reviews, but this experience has been so shockingly awful that I could not, in good conscience, allow others to go through what I did without warning.
I saw the add for Freshly on Facebook and ordered my first 6 meals for $30. Five bucks a meal, sounds pretty good, right? As others have mentioned here, they WILL charge you for an ongoing subscription if you do not pause it right away. Since that scam has been around since the digital age, I paused it right away and did not get hit with the recurring charge. I had no idea it would get so much worse.
The expected delivery date came and went, and the website said my meals had been delivered when I logged in. Clearly, they had not, so I emailed their "support" email address the next day because they have NO phone number ANYWHERE on their website. Huge red flag.
Colin, "my friend at Freshly", replied to my email several hours later saying that while the order was delayed, the meals are actually good for two days plus twelve hours, so they'll be safe to eat when they do get here a day late. And since they'll still be good to eat, he's not able to give me a full refund, but he can do 50%, and would that be okay?
I said I did want the partial refund, but what kind of company refuses to refund a dissatisfied FIRST TIME customer a whopping $15? Talk about word-of-mouth suicide. I also found it disgusting that these meals that are supposed to be "fresh" but are A-OKAY to be consumed by humans 60 hours later. Vomit.
THE WORST PART OF ALL: It is now 7:30 PM on the day AFTER they were supposed to arrive, and the meals are still not here. Using the tracking information that "my friend at Freshly" gave me, I see that they have been in my city since yesterday morning. No delivery, and no anticipated time of delivery. I now have to leave for the weekend, so I will not be eating any of the meals.
By law: "If the seller is unable to ship within the promised time, it must notify you, give a revised shipping date and give you the chance to cancel for a full refund or accept the new shipping date. The seller also must give you some way to exercise the cancellation option for free."
Freshly did exactly NONE of these things. They are breaking the law with their predatory tactics. It's shameful. This company is run by dishonest thieves who use trickery and deceptive marketing to reel in unassuming, busy people just looking for a healthy, convenient meal. Not only do they not care about their customers in the slightest, but they are willing to atomic bomb potential relationships with customers to save $15. What does that tell you?
Two words: STAY AWAY!
I'm sorry to hear that you were initially upset with our customer service, but upon reviewing the communication I see that you were, in fact, fully refunded for your delivery. And also offered an additional credit if you wished to ever order again. I'm glad to see that it was resolved successfully!
I imagine you posted your review prior to receiving the final response from Colin. Apologies again for your initial dissatisfaction and frustration--from the communication it seems there was simply a misunderstanding.:-)
Awful. I ordered and received email that meals would arrive on June 2nd. They never came. I had no food in the house and a small baby. Customer service did not respond to my emails. Because I had received confirmation the day before stating that my meals WOULD arrive by June 1st, I kept checking our doorstep. I was hungry, but did not send my husband out to the store because I figured they were just late. FINALLY at 9pm he left to get me food. This morning - nothing on the doorstep and still no response from customer service. Called and spoke to JASHAUNA. She said they "should be" here today. Told her I DID NOT WANT MEALS AND WOULD SEND BACK> She told me I'm sorry I cannot issue you a refund. What kind of company does that? DONE.
Just had a baby, husband is gone on work. Freshly saved my life! I have no time to prepare or cook anything these days and this was a wonderful find. So nice that the food is fresh and much healthier than the high-sodium frozen lean meals in the stores! Love it and will definitely continue my subscription until my husband comes home again (and then maybe we will just double it!)
All that I have to do is whip up a quick side salad for my husband and me in addition to our Freshly entree, and we have a complete meal! Sure beats all of the slicing and dicing I have to do for meal prep with those OTHER food delivery companies! They tell you it takes no more than 30min to fix their meals... 90min later dinner is on the table... no thank you. I LOVE FRESHLY:-)
I love it! If was very tasty-well seasoned; within my carb count: I am a diabetic and have an intolerance to Gluten so it was just perfect! I will never cook dinner again. The only thing missing was a healthy dessert-low in carbs
I had low expectations as we had tried a healthy prepared food place that was local a few months back and the food was bland and over peppered at the same time. To my shock when we ate our first meal (Paleo Almond Chicken) we were blown away with how fresh and delicious the food tasted. The price is also a bonus, at just over $10/meal it is well worth every penny to get a healthy, fresh, good tasting meal delivered to our door.
The meals arrived on time, beautifully packaged and ready to go. All the meals were very tasty and fresh and none of the meals were like any that I had ever made before, which was a treat. I will definitely order again - try it!
I tried out freshly because it seemed interesting and the ad attracted me with a promotional rate of $30 dollars. I ordered the food, and by the time I ate 1 meal (1 day later) I had a "fresh" charge on my card for $62 or $63 dollars. I knew it was a subscription service but I did not anticipate a promotion would be processed in this fashion, or the company would literally expect you to select more meals after trying one or possibly 2 meals from them before charging you again. I contacted customer service immediately the day I identified the charge and received a response saying they were unable to stop the order from shipping, or refund the charge. That is unbelievable and unacceptable, so I wrote again. This customer service representative told me there would be no refund, do not ship the food back, as it would be spoiled, and I should share the food with my friends and family as opposed to sending the food back to them. Incredible.
Three of the six meals were enjoyable. One of the first meals I ate was a citrus salmon. Absolutely disgusting. Unfortunately I ordered two of these initially because I assumed it would be delicious. Never assume. I drown the salmon in bbq sauce and ate it anyways. The kimchi was extremely spicy and not good at all--actually it was quite bad. The salmon dishes were extremely dry and chewy, as one of my selections was a salmon dish with chimichurri. The chimichurri was good but the salmon was awful. So three of six meals were barely edible, while 3 were tasty.
Keep in mind I am being charged for another round of these meals. So I will receive three good meals and three bad meals. People have to demand better from these businesses that do not have any customer service number to call, especially if their customer service is slow to respond and does not have any flexibility or power to stop a shipment. I would have tried some other non-fish dishes if they took care of my situation like a reputable company, but unfortunately they shirked my concerns and refused to refund my money. They also wasted my time. I would not bother with this--the grocery store frozen section is right around the corner and does not require a weekly commitment. May be decent for people living in HUGE cities with no car.
Thank you for your feedback on our service and meals. I'm sorry that you weren't fully satisfied with the meals and that we weren't able to accommodate you as desired regarding the deadline and cancellation/full refund request.
It is certainly not our intention to be difficult, we simply have to have the strict deadlines to maintain the most efficient production process we can.
I'm very sorry to hear that you didn't care for those particular dishes, though the detailed feedback is very much appreciated. In light of your comments regarding that, I reached out to my supervisor and was given approval to offer you a refund for what you were charged for those dishes.
For the first delivery you paid $15 for those 3 dishes, and for this second one you paid $31.05 for them. I have processed a refund in the amount of $46.05 for you, which you should see post in roughly 3-5 business days, depending on your bank/card issuer.
I do hope that this helps to ease your frustrations a bit, Archie. Please let me know if you have any questions, and have a wonderful day!
My husband and I tried the 6 meals for $30.00 for the week. We did not care for the food we thought some of the meals were plain bad. The meat/fish would over cook or the vegetables would be under cooked. We received the meals this Friday and we canceled the subscription today but were billed already on May 29th. (Holiday Weekend) They would not refund the money for the order that had not shipped out yet and that we thought was a trial. The contract is very misleading! I would not recommend signing up!
Thank you for your feedback regarding our service--I'm so sorry that we weren't able to accommodate you as desired. It is certainly not our intention to be difficult, we simply have to have the strict deadlines to maintain the most efficient production process we can. We do our best to outline that it is a weekly service via the website, Terms & Conditions, language on checkout page, and confirmation email and to help people remember the deadline via the Meal Planner page and with the weekly email reminder.
Again, apologies for any inconvenience caused by our need for the deadlines, and thank you for your feedback. We will continue to evaluate our service and make improvements based on customer feedback.
Have a wonderful day!
I tried this and basically the food is filled with sodium. On top of the that be sure to read the fine print bc they charge you automatically then deliver your exact order again. I called to see if they would cancel the order bc I thought the food tasted terrible. Their answer was no and it was on the page when I ordered. Terrible food and customer service!
Thank you for your feedback regarding our service. I'm so sorry that we weren't able to accommodate you as desired. We do add a bit of sea salt to taste, but otherwise the sodium is from what is naturally occurring in the ingredients. Because we do not alter it, we've received feedback that the sodium seems higher than normal. It's largely from seasonings and marinades that we use.
If you're concerned about it for health reasons, research has shown that naturally occurring sodium isnt necessarily bad for you. Its the sodium that comes from chemical preservatives and the like that is harmful (one reason we dont use chemical preservatives).:-) A good article to check out, which explains it more detail, can be found at this link:

Again, I thank you for your feedback and apologize for your negative experience. I hope you have a wonderful day!
I have Celiac disease, so I am so happy I found Freshly. So far I've liked all the meals except the turkey and meatloaf. Just too bland. But I've loved everything else! Today I had meatballs for the first time. They were great! Heathy meals and pretty low calories too... and convenient delivery. Very happy so far!
Really enjoyed pulling a delicious, nutritious meal from fridge every day and in a couple of minutes I was dining!
I do have a problem recycling the packaging. How may ice packs be disposed of?
How do I recycle foam wrapping? Box I can deal with, but wish I could send pkg. Back to you to reuse. ($$$$$) My friends, who ordered at the same time I did has the same concerns.
The food is very good. I appreciated knowing that when I got home from a hard day at work I could pop one of these in the microwave and I would have a good, nutritious meal ready in less than 2 minutes. These are above and beyond the microwave dinners you buy at the grocery store. Yes, they cost more but, in my opinion, they're worth it.
The thought of eating healthy pre-made meals conjures up images of all those frozen diet meals I've eaten over they years that have the consistency and taste of cardboard (No, I have not actually eaten cardboard before, but I have a good idea it would taste like frozen diet food). Freshly is in the process of wiping out that memory completely! I am only on my second box, so some of the jury is still out, but everything I have eaten thus far is absolutely delicious! The food is cooked to perfection, well seasoned, fresh and tastes great! I look forward to my Wednesday boxes! Oh yeah, hubby and 15 year old son like them too!
Answer: Hi Marc, Thanks for your inquiry! At this time we change one meal per week, typically. We will either remove an item and replace with something new, update the recipe on a current item or just add an item without removing one. As we continue to grow we will have plans to offer even more variety as well!
Answer: Hi Steven, Thank you for your interest in Freshly! We are a weekly subscription service, so you would be charged for, and delivered meals on a weekly basis. However, you can select to skip weeks, or cancel your subscription at anytime! These changes would just need to be made prior to your weekly deadline, which is outlined in your Welcome Email, Reminder Emails, and in your Meal Planner. I hope this helps!
Answer: Our meals are prepared and shipped out from our kitchen in Phoenix.:-) For Arizona deliveries we use FedEx.

Answer: Hi Nancy! We do not cook meals based on other programs' guidelines at this time. We're not overly concerned with calorie counts, but more concerned with where calories come from. Our meals are generally high protein, high healthy fat, low carb, low sugar. We use unprocessed ingredients free from hormones or added sugars, and never use chemical preservatives. Please let me know if I can answer any other questions at this time!
Answer: Hi Shawn W, That doesn't sound right! Please reach us at [email protected] so we can take a closer look at this!

Answer: Hi Gayle, Thank you for reaching out to us here at Freshly! You can certainly reheat our meals in a conventional oven, however, our current meal containers are not safe for the oven or stove-top, so you'll have to transfer your food to heat it up. First, preheat your oven to 350° F. Transfer your food to an oven-safe dish (don't forget to scrape the sauce out of the tray!) and cover the top in tin foil. Heat for 25-35 minutes, remove foil, and let sit 3-5 minutes, then transfer to your choice of plate or bowl and enjoy! (Keep in mind, heating times are approximate. You'll want to reheat the meal to an inner temperature of 165° F.)
Answer: Hi Angela, Thank you for reaching out to us here at Freshly! We use third-party carriers for our deliveries, such as FedEx in her area! We can deliver Tuesday-Saturday in Southern Illinois--deliveries can occur between 8am-9pm depending on the carriers route for the day. While carrier delays are out of the norm, weather-related issues, road closures, driver confusion, etc. can wreak havoc. We have a dedicated delivery team that works directly with our carriers to ensure successful deliveries, and we're always sure to compensate when delays arise. We certainly hope this helps! To view a list of currently available deliveries, you can enter your zip code at www.freshly.com!
Answer: I've been getting mine in on time, but I assume as with all packages going through USPS, UPS, and FedEx right now, things have been backed up since COVID and only getting worse. So it's not Freshly's fault even if they aren't delivered on time.
