I was optimistic that this would be an alternative to eating out for lunch every day. I was horribly mistaken. The portions are super small and the protein tasted cheaper than an all you can eat buffet. Do not make the same mistake.

They are banking on new customers to sign up with the promotional rate. Then, they'll bill you for a second order with the normal rate the day after you receive your first order. They are taking advantage of people not unsubscribing in time.

We're so sorry for any inconvenience caused - it is not our intention to take advantage of anyone. We include the weekly deadline in the welcome email, reminder emails, and on the Meal Planner subscription management pages to do our best to make it as clear as possible.

We do not cook meals 1 week in advance of shipping them. We do have strict deadlines, typically 5-6 days before the next scheduled delivery, simply to maintain the most efficient production process that we can. We're very sorry for any inconvenience caused by this, as it is not our intention to be difficult.

I will privately message you momentarily to get your account information to see if there is something I can do to help make this right for you, since you were dissatisfied with the meals.

Great for a single girl!
November 5, 2016

I love having a healthy, home cooked tasting meal waiting for me when I get home at night. Being single it would cost so much more to make these types of meals, plus the prep time, Freshly is exactly what I needed and I'm so glad I found it! I hate hate hate frozen food, and this doesn't taste anything like a lean cuisine! The meals have arrived right on time every week, and I get an email reminding me to choose next week's menu or cancel. They are also easy to take along to work, since I end up working late some days and these meals are much healthier than fast food or vending machine options. You can always add extra veggies or a salad too. I am slightly picky, but I have yet to try a meal I didn't like. Very flavorful and the meat is always tender. I don't often leave reviews but Freshly is my new favorite thing and I can't say enough good things about it. :)

Started off at some $30 for like 8 meals or so on a special. Could have been $40. Either way the meals were alright but not worth the normal rate.

I got an email at ~7:00 PM that "your meals were going to ship" out on (date) and that day was THAT day. I tried canceling within about 45 minutes of the notice however was too late apparently. I tried messaging customer service immediately and they basically told me to pound sand.

I'd never use it again personally. Screw this company

We're sorry to hear that you weren't happy with the meals and service. It is certainly not our intention to be difficult by adhering to our strict deadlines. We try to make them as clear as possible, outlining in the welcome/confirmation email, reminder emails and on the Meal Planner pages in each account.

We simply need to stick to the deadlines to maintain the most efficient production process that we can. Again - our apologies for any inconvenience that was caused.

I signed up for 6 meals/week & have been very happy with the meals so far (3rd delivery comes tomorrow). Their website is easy to use & the food looks exactly like their online photos. I liked most of the meals, which are tasty & cooked just right. Each week they add something new & give you time to consider before making changes, otherwise the same meals will be delivered.

Since I've been pleased (gave it 5 stars), I decided to read other reviews before recommending Freshly to family & friends. Not only for themselves, but also for elderly parents who need to eat healthier, too. Much easier than buying groceries that go to waste!

I've read most all the reviews from 1 to 5 stars & just have to say I have not experienced ANY of the reasons given for negative complaints! Over 60 years of cooking for family & just myself, I've tried a LOT of recipes with varying results. This was like an adventure without having to drive anywhere to eat at a restaurant that would cost quite a lot more. I am trying most all the meals & don't expect to LIKE EVERY meal. Funny ~ one review liked the meat loaf & not the steak, but I had the opposite opinion. As for salt, do people check sodium levels at restaurants, especially fast food? It's very high!

I do understand the need for more time to change the next order, especially early on. Perhaps an extra week after the first order would give people a chance to try the meals first. Just a suggestion as I also understand the chef/cook also have to have lead time to order supplies.

Most of the meals have been great - tasty & well proportioned (helps with portion control). Adding a small salad (out of a bag) & a glass of wine, I feel like I've eaten out without having to go out. Tell your chefs & cooks to keep up the good work ~ I love them! ~ Moms

Still love Freshly
October 26, 2016

I have been ordering Freshly meals for a few months now and I still love them. Yes, I like some meals more than others but I look forward to a good no mess, no trouble meal in the evenings. I use the pause button when I have gone out to eat and have Freshly dinners that I have put in the freezer. That is so easy to do so I am not sure why anyone is complaining about that or having a problem with that Also Freshly sends you a weekly reminder before your order is due so you can order, pause or even cancel. As far as the person who liked Freshly but wanted more of a diet plan---well if you need to lose weight and you eat sensibly at your other meals you will lose weight because these meals are healthy. I tend to mostly choose the meals with lean meats and not so starchy veggies but even the meals with potatoes or rice are balanced. I love the veggies and I love knowing that I am eating a healthy meal. I also love knowing that the packaging is recyclable. As far as comparing Freshly meals to cheap frozen dinners at the grocery store-----there is no comparison at all. Freshly is never frozen---I cannot stand tv dinners. If I liked them I would be eating them but yuck! I can tell you that I save money because I just do not go to the store often anymore because I have good healthy food delivered so I am not tempted to grab this and that when I am in the store. I have also noticed that I do not go out to eat nearly as often either. Also if you consider that these meals are shipped (not frozen) with ice packs to your front door well the price is a bargain in my opinion. I got my neighbor to try Freshly and she loves them. Now we are both saving the insulation that comes in the boxes and she is going to sew covers on them to give as beds to our local animal shelter What a great idea!..

They dont let you know when you need to change your meals/pick selections/pause etc. (They SAY they do- that has yet to happen) Figured out my day was Saturday then all of a sudden it was Thursday and Im being charged $60 for meals I do not want/like. Spoke to them and "there is nothing they can do on Saturday for a Weds delivery- ALL my deliveries have been Thursdays, bit somehow that changed this week. Meals are OK- not worth $10 each OR the hassle of being stuck with meals you dont want.

Too automated
October 21, 2016

I ordered from freaky one week and the website automatically sets up your next order so be sure and double check it. I looked at my next order and modified it. Problem is, the website had set up an order after that that was even. Offer and had selections of food I can't even eat. When I saw this order was coming and Freslt had charged my card I called to tell them and get a refund. Freaky said it was too late that they were already sending it out- 5 days from now -and no refund. I liked some of the food- not so much the pasta, but cancelled since the website is something I don't wAnt to be constantly monitoring so I don't get food I can't eat.

I can't believe some of these reviews that say the food is terrible. We have ordered some that we didn't prefer as much as others, but none are terrible. I love that they give me nutrition facts and they prepare everything fresh. We have really enjoyed the convenience and knowing that it is much healthier than Frozen Foods at the store that has lots of preservatives and other chemicals

I want to like the food because I have a busy schedule and want to be able to come home and pop a healthy meal in the microwave instead of going through a drive through or coming home to cook. I can't wrap my taste buds around the flavor of these meals. They are bland with little flavor and at the same time awful. And honestly they don't taste fresh. I hope they make some changes to their meals as this type of meal service is something I am currently looking for.

I like the idea of coming home to food which is fresh and already prepared. Running our own business means we work longer than most and definitely bring the work home. With 2 workaholics in the house, who really want to break bread together, and this option worked out perfectly.

The food was tasty and healthy. I have to confess that I was/am concerned about the sodium content, but otherwise, the meal hit the spot. Most importantly I was able to feed my hubby and not worry about all of the additives and preservatives used in most restaurants and fast food joints.

Thanks Freshly family, I hope that all of the rounds of funding continue, and that you guys increase your menu options and continue to grow.

Awful
October 13, 2016

I had thought this new trend of meals delivered to the house might be a great idea. I started with the 9 meal pack at $50. I have only eaten two of these 9 meals. They taste awful. I tried the Jerk Chicken and the Chicken Livorno and they were both way over-spiced with just a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad taste. For the price of $10 or $11 each you would do much better buying from the frozen Dept of your local grocery store at 1/3 the price and way better taste. I can't believe how horrible these tasted. The other 7 are going into the garbage when I get home from work tonight.

Although the portion is kinda small, the taste is okay. With shipping and packaging cost, the cost for each meal (approx $7.00 with discount) is reasonable. The company frequently adds new meals as well as coupons to current customers. Overall, they deserve 4.5 stars for their good business.

Swanson is much better.

I tried 4 meals at a good discount. The steak was very tough and taste free. Thechicken breast had a horrible sauce and 4 corn kernels plus 3 grape tomatos hardly makes a "side". Only the meatloaf was good. Never again!

I ordered off FB promo like many. I ordered for convenience & high protein content & 1/2 price was appealing. I DIDN'T read through Terms (order policy etc) & while I enjoyed most of the meals, as I didn't read Terms through, or check email I rec'd, I missed the "subscription policy" & the email giving me chance to cancel/pause subscription. That was on me. But I hadn't had time to try many as I delayed delivery BUT if I had read Terms, I could have Paused order soon after ordering. Upon calling I found out they wouldn't cancel or pause (I missed deadline by about 18 hrs)but I was still able to modify my meal choices (which didn't make sense that I could modify but not cancel-but at least I changed order to include/exclude meals). I. e. I really liked meatloaf dinner & several others -delicious spinich with a few meals, but not the cod so much. I ldo ike that they have all the nutrition info on meals etc. Overall, I enjoyed 2/3 of what I got but not in budget when full price. I did cancel subscription after 2nd shipment but recently rec'd another promo offer to "Get me back"... but if I do it will be sure to "pause" it on time. READ all Terms.

We ordered the 4 meal special. We have eaten two for the four, both were quite good one, especially good.
The order arrived in a large high quality cardboard box with 2 packages of plastic bag enclosed ice (ice not gel). There were two large plastic bag enclosed denim insulating cushions. The mass (in volume) of the shipping material was about 10x the delivered food. They do include information on RECYCLING... a massive contribution to what we need to take to recycling, but there is no RE-USE model which would make far more sense. Ok, I get it that return shipping would kill the advantage of reuse but that is just another reason why this is another unsustainable business model as is. Frankly, I was shocked to imagine the costs of all we bought that was not actual food.

We aren't able to offer reuse options since our packaging is used to ship food items. Due to regulations, they can't be reused. Our boxes are ineed recyclable, as are the plastic meal containers and cardboard sleeves. The recycled denim insulation is largely biodegradable, and the gel in the cooling packs are non-toxic, water soluble, and the plastic bags for them are recyclable.:-)

Good Food, High Sodium
October 10, 2016

I've ordered form Freshly once about two weeks ago and froze some of the meals to make them stretch. In fact I'm munching on the Chicken Parm right now. Overall the food is well seasoned. The chicken is (surprisingly) still juicy after heating it up. I have no complaints about the taste at all. The portions were ok. I've ordered from other meal prep services with healthy options and have gotten more food for fewer calories than Freshly.

My only serious compliant is the sodium content. Like really, most of the meals I bought has a sodium content of over 1000 mg. One had more than 1300. That's not healthy. Also, right before I ordered from Freshly, I was ordering from a local meal prep service, where the food was delivered fresh and was still warm sometimes when i received it. Freshly's meals came from Texas and I live in Georgia. The meals were left at my doorstep after two days of traveling, which actually didn't bother me because Freshly did a great job of packing the food with care and lots of insulation to keep my meals cool. However, I think my personal preference would be to get a fresh local meal with a much lower sodium count for the same price as Freshly. This just wasn't for me, but I think the product is solid -- if you're not worried about sodium.

Thank you for the feedback - we're pleased to hear that you enjoyed the meals and service in general.:-)

We do add a bit of sea salt to taste, but otherwise, the sodium is from what is naturally occurring in the ingredients.

Because we do not alter it, we've received feedback that the sodium seems higher than normal. It's largely from seasonings and marinades that we use. We have been reducing sodium content recently and working to add more "low sodium" options as well.

If you're concerned about it for health reasons, research has shown that naturally occurring sodium isn’t necessarily bad for you. It’s the sodium that comes from chemical preservatives and the like that is harmful (one reason we don’t use chemical preservatives).:-) A good piece to check out, which explains it more detail, can be found at this link:

http://www.todayifoundout.com/index.php/2013/02/why-does-salt-raise-blood-pressure/

Of course, we understand that there is a lot of varying research and we always recommend that anyone with health concerns speak to their doctor! :D
