At first paying about $10 a meal (on my Freshly food plan) seemed expensive for my budget. What I found, though, it that the quality of the meals. For the most part, were far beyond what I made and less expensive than buying food from many fast food restaurants!

I have found them flexible and very responsive. I love their customer service staff.

You have to pay attention to the cutoff deadlines, which I think are liberal. You can change your plan at any time. Each week you are offered a variety of meals. These are fresh, but can be frozen.

They are many dishes to choose from. You can select your dietary restrictions. The only reason I haven't given them at 5 star rating is that there is always one new item that isn't that so great. When you leave feedback, however (which they encourage per every meal), that item doesn't show up on your menu choices again, unless they have improved it.

I receive delivery every other week. It has helped me lose weight! I don't 'graze" after their filling and nourishing meals.

The meals taste good and I love the convenience. It is hard to find gluten free meals that taste this good. I was a little nervous to order after reading negative reviews. I am glad that I did not listen to them as these meals earn 5 stars in my book. I will continue to order these meals each week.

I like how freshly has given me back my life. I rarely go to the grocery store, don't cook, or clean really. I've lost 30 pounds. I have all this free time! I like the way the food tastes. I don't crave sugar anymore. Sometimes, they will get my order wrong, but I haven't been delivered anything I didn't actually like. I look at it like, "Hey, I know these are actual people making and packaging my food." I would love an easy way to be notified if the menu changes besides me needing to log on each week. I'm super happy with my experience and totally recommend Freshly!

I have ordered from several premade meal services and none compare to the quality of Freshly. I have no clue what these reviews are about, the food is unbelievable! And SUPER healthy. Highly recommend!

Love it
September 29, 2016

Freshly has helped me keep on top of eating relatively healthily while I balance a ton of other life stuff--school, work, extracurricular activities. It tastes great, and their customer service is top notch--they're very responsive to emails. I didn't think I'd keep this up for more than a month or two, but I'm going on doing this for a year now, and I can't imagine getting through the week without it.

I was impressed by Freshly's sleek website and easy ordering process. The meals showed up in nice refrigerated packaging. Unfortunately, the actual meals were terrible. Soggy, over cooked vegetables, too much salt, watery sauce, and measly portions. There are definitely better TV dinners available at the grocery store, and they aren't any where near $10/each.

Overall, very good options and food is rather good. As a single guy I find it often hard cook for one or always eat healthy, these give me the ability to do both. If I go out for lunch it cost me at least $8 and often unhealthy. You might be able to buy food for cheaper but time spent; shopping, cooking and cleaning up I would argue you are losing money.

I would give it a shot and try to really consider the cost after you have given it a week.

Waste of time and money.
September 25, 2016

Signed up for a trial offer. Tried the mac and cheese. Absolutely disgusting. Raw Onion. Gross. There is no RAW onion or bell pepper in a mac and cheese unless you are mentally disturbed.
Less than 24 hours later, I received an email stating that my next weeks "order" was on the way. I never placed an order. I contact them to tell them I didn't place an order and anything they had coming to me needed to be cancelled as I didn't place an order. They told me too bad and proceeded to charge my credit card.
This service amounts to thieves with your credit card. I'm off to contact my credit card company.
How can they send me an order when I didn't order anything?
DO NOT sign up for any no obligation trial offer unless you like spending your time writing emails and making phone calls to keep this company from taking your money/charging your credit card without permission.

Apologies for any confusion regarding how our service works - all of our plans are set up as weekly subscriptions, as outlined during ordering, at checkout, in the Terms, and in the confirmation email. Customers can skip weeks as needed, pause indefinitely, or cancel permanently, as long as they do so by their weekly deadline.

We outline the weekly deadline (to cancel/pause/skip) in the confirmation email and weekly reminder emails. It is typically 5-6 days before the next scheduled delivery, quite soon after the first delivery. The meals for any future orders are selected based on the initial selections, save for any potential overall menu changes or shortages.

PLEASE READ

If you think this plan is a good idea for "time saving lunch meals" or "easy last minute eats" and you would possibly order them for 5-9 meals a week experience...
THINK AGAIN
Please listen to my ACTUAL experience.

I ordered the 9 meal option@ $11.00 per meal because they were offering 50% off first order. By meal #2, I knew it was going to be a long week of forcing tasteless, over cooked food down my throat. Every bite I took, I wished I never tried Freshly at all. For $11 you are better off getting an actual fresh meal from whole foods or your local grocery store or better off with a frozen entree from the grocery store at 1/3 the price, after all, you have to microwave the meals from Freshly so that is a fair comparison.

BUYER BEWARE:
I received my first order on a Friday and by the VERY NEXT DAY, SATURDAY, after only trying ONE of the meals, they surprisingly placed an order for me, even choosing the meals for me.
You would think they would at least give you a chance to try all the meals in the first order so you can decide if you want to place another order but no, that's how they get you. Literally force feed you another week and charge you $99 before you know it, meals are on their way and you are stuck! I'm still eating the crap they sent me on week two and i'm near death lol but seriously, dont wast your money let alone your time. Thank me later.

I used a promotion to try Freshly for home delivery.

The web app is easy to use and the meal selection is good. (No mobile app is a disappointment) Delivery was on time and the meals were as described.

Quality was fine, not great, just fine. At $10+ per meal, it seems like a tough price point for glorified frozen TV dinners. Munchery is a fresher and better tasting option, without the burden of a subscription service or the need to think ahead.

Tough sell.

The credit system
September 19, 2016

So I did the Freshly thing, and I will say the food is fine, I was interested. The website says if you refer someone you get 2 free meals. Thought that was a cool thing.

This promotion is a lie, is completely false, I went out and referred 3 people to the service, it's been 2 weeks and they have charged me full price on both orders.

I email these people and they basically said OK, next order we will, apply it they didn't. I feel they are gonna say the same thing next week

So as a customer, I would say don't expect them to give you the free meals for the referral thing. I honestly don't think the meals are worth 10 bucks a piece, for me the referral thing would make it worth it, if I could get a better deal on the orders I'd do it, but the promotions are designed for you to keep ordering they're expensive food for as long as they can charge you until you are like, you're not gonna honor youre promotion ever, and you cancel.

So sorry for the trouble! With the referral system, when someone orders from your referral, you are supposed to be sent an email with a promo code to enter on your subscription.

Of course sometimes friends may order without the link on accident, or emails can get lost - we are always happy to apply the credits manually! And we are definitely always working to improve the website's usability.:-)

Some of the meals were pretty good. Some of them were really salty. No wonder--they run between 30%-60% of sodium daily allotment, which is just too high to be considered healthy at all. The body is an electrical system and sodium and potassium balances are crucial to heart health, over time and on a daily basis. Eating one Freshly meal a day mandates reducing sodium greatly in anything else you might consume on the same day. I am willing to bet those who designed this menu could reduce the sodium and sort out another way to keep the flavor up. At home, I use lemon or a salt-free seasoning mix like Spike. It's not that hard. Also, the cholesterol was surprisingly high in some foods, even things made with chicken, kale and white beans. That should be a low-cholesterol meal.

We do add a bit of sea salt to taste, but otherwise the sodium is from what is naturally occurring in the ingredients. Because we do not alter it, we've received feedback that the sodium seems higher than normal. It's largely from seasonings and marinades that we use.

If you're concerned about it for health reasons, research has shown that naturally occurring sodium isn’t necessarily bad for you. It’s the sodium that comes from chemical preservatives and the like that is harmful (one reason we don’t use chemical preservatives).:-) A good piece to check out, which explains it more detail, can be found at this link:

http://www.todayifoundout.com/index.php/2013/02/why-does-salt-raise-blood-pressure/

Keep in mind that high cholesterol has not been proven to be directly linked to heart issues. Only about 50% of heart attack victims have high cholesterol and of those who have high cholesterol about 50% do not have any heart disease. A better indication of heart disease is chronic inflammation. Chronic inflammation puts you at twice the risk of dying from cardiovascular problems as those with high cholesterol.

A great link for more information is http://www.drsinatra.com/the-great-cholesterol-myth/

Of course we understand that there is a LOT of varying research and we always recommend that anyone with health concerns speak to their doctor!:-)

Sodium!
September 19, 2016

While you will find ranges on recommended sodium intake daily, most ranges are 1500-2300, the meals I ordered ranged from 1100-1600! In just one meal!

Most of the meals were tasty and I thought the portion size was fine. I increased my workouts to help compensate for the increased sodium. A few days of increased sodium should not have extreme long term effects but ordering these on a regular basis... that could have serious long term health effects, especially if you are eating these twice a day! I limited mine to once a day.

Literally meh
September 19, 2016

I signed up based on a half off offer running on Facebook, and I'm glad I only paid half price. The food arrived timely, no issue there. However, it literally looks like a box of frozen dinners that aren't yet frozen. They even come in the tell-tale black plastic of a frozen dinner. The food was not terribly flavorful, it reheated very unevenly, and was not filling at all. I would prefer just getting a frozen meal from Trader Joes--more filling and tastier.

Like the concept, menu, delivery, ingredients, packaging, website! Love the healthy paleo cuisine. But my wife and I couldn't handle the saltiness--tasted like someone stood over it shaking a saltshaker for 30 seconds. I'm guessing they hope the salt will preserve the food.

Dogs wouldn't even eat it
September 18, 2016

I ordered the special introductory offer of 9 for $49, I received Wens, had the breakfast not bad but not $11.50 worth, had flat Iron steak for lunch, it was the toughest piece of meat I ever tried couldn't eat it, that night had french onion steak even worse fed it dogs, the the Brussell sprouts were even so tough and old, the dogs wouldn't eat it, if you have chefs you better send them to school and quit buying old nag horses for the meat

Good stuff so far!
September 18, 2016

I've tried about 4 meals so far and have enjoyed them all! They do taste as if some just cooked them. I haven't had an after tastes or that bland packaged taste. NOTHING like regular TV dinners. Everything has been well seasoned (although I prefer a little more personally.) loved the wide variety of entrees and look forward to trying more. Price is the only thing keeping this from regular rotation at my house since there are 2 adults to feed and almost $10 per meal is a little pricey for a regular Tuesday night dinner at home. Would definitely eat again though.

I am reading this reviews and I have to disagree, for me all tasted great! Although I was very disappointed that the food takes so long to come. Then, they don't keep customers updated on when to expect the delivery and yes, if your not home ( which I wasn't) it will sit on you porch without notification of delivery as well. I ended up "pausing" my subscription because it wasn't ideal delivery wise, or financially. I looked at the expiration date and still had a few days. The expenses are equivalent to eating out every night/day. Based on this pricing, I would hate to have multiple people eating these meals, I'd go bankrupt. This means I would have to microwave my food and still cook for everyone else. I don't eat like that now, so I think its worth it to cook appropriately or find something local. Additionally, my husband and I agreed, it wasn't enough food. I ordered 9 "meals" ( I use that term lightly), I would find myself hungry shortly after causing me to want to eat more, not less. Maybe something good for a quick breakfast or snack but, definitely not dinner. I DO LIKE that Freshly is very environmentally friendly in all packaging, including the little ice box its shipped in.

The meals are awful. They all have a strange taste and it is not freshness. Their customers service is not helpful at all. After my first order came on schedule, and I accidentally missed the cut off to cancel for the next, the second week was 2 days late and they tried to tell me the meals would still be good! Sure I'm going to eat 9 questionable meals in 2 days, since that's how long the expiration is good for now. Crazy! Horrible food and customer relations!

So sorry for any confusion, Misti--when you emailed your meals were going to be 1 day late, not 2. The notification email you receive tells the shipment day, rather than delivery day. Since your meals were scheduled to arrive Wednesday and were only in transit 1 day at that time, you had that additional day buffer. So if they had actually arrived on Thursday they would still be safe, since they were just 1 day late & our packaging is tested to be safe for that amount of time.

However, when your meals did not actually arrive on Thursday either, I see that we refunded your entire charge for that second order. I'm glad it was taken care of for you!
