I tried other meal delivery services, including Blue Apron and Sun Basket, but Freshly beats them all! I'm only home a few nights a week and although I love to cook, I don't have much time. With delivery services that require preparation I found myself frustrated and backed up on meals. The goal in meal delivery for me was to save time and provide convenience. Freshly's precooked meals were just the ticket! I can use them for lunch or dinner, so I'm never backed up and I hardly ever have to go to the grocery store. The selection of options is varied and they do a good job of rotating meals in & out. I'm very pleased!
I was really hoping this would work b/c it would have been a huge time saver. The first meal my family tried was the seafood risotto! Disgusting! Nobody in my family of 4 could even stomach it. The BBQ chicken was bland and boring, plus the potatoes had a weird taste. The parm. Chicken wasn't bad. But, overall the food is almost worse than frozen meals from the grocery store and a whole lot more expensive. Not to mention the small portion sizes, even for my young children, the portion sizes were too small. Don't waste your money!
I love Freshly. After trying other services that mailed ingredients, I finally came across Freshly. It's a much better match for me since he food is actually prepared, saving me time.
I never understood the business model of the other companies. If I don't have time to grocery shop, why would I have the spare time to cook a complex meal?
Freshly taste restaurant quality and much better than frozen TV dinners.
I really want to like Freshly, and was enticed by their slick website. Unfortunately, despite saying that they deliver to my state, they don't deliver to my ZIP code. Which is odd - I live in an urban area and in the largest city in my state - which is the main hub for UPS Airlines, so I've never been told by any vendor that they can't deliver to my ZIP code. When I emailed the company to inquire as to why they wouldn't, and when we would expect to be able to receive Freshly via delivery, I got some canned, yet perky and hip answer saying to check back with their Facebook page in September when their new kitchen facility would be opening in the Northeast... which is great since I live in the Southeast - and every state around me gets the service.
So I responded that if I have nothing better to do in September, am still alive and can remember to check their Facebook page in September, I would certainly check back in.
In reality, Freshly (if you guys do check these reviews), you should have taken down my info and let us know that you would be in touch as soon as your product was available in our area. I have no clue what hillbilly parts of my state you do deliver to, but you should be clear on your website where you deliver to before teasing us with your pictures and information.
Hi Sandra--I'm curious about this. Typically if we deliver to a state overall, it's the more rural areas that we can't deliver to.
There are a couple of states, however, where we can only reach a small area of it. I'm going to reach out via a private message to clarify, and assist if possible!
I signed up to try their food... I immediately "paused" the subscription upon signing up... just wanted one week of food to try it out. The food was mediocre tasting, but then I got an email saying another shipment was going to be sent out the next week. I immediately contacted customer support and told them I wasn't interested in anymore food (and told them I had already paused their subscription stuff as well). They said it was too late for me to cancel the order (even though the food hadn't shipped yet - I told them on Friday morning, and the food wasn't scheduled to ship until Monday afternoon). I told them I would even initiate a chargeback if they continued to process my order. They acted like they didn't care. This business is absolutely horrible. Stay far far far far away from Freshly!
We're so sorry to hear of any confusion with the service - if a subscription is paused by the deadline and confirmed on the Meal Planner pages to be paused, there would never be any additional charges, unless it was unpaused. Our system doesn't have the ability to process an order if a subscription is successfully paused by the weekly deadline.
We don't mean to be difficult by sticking to our deadlines, we simply need to maintain the most efficient production process that we can, since we prepare and ship tens of thousands of meals each week. Since we cook the meals fresh and need to be sure we have the necessary ingredients as well as appropriate staffing, we do require the advance notice for canceling/skipping/pausing.
Absolutely a scam. They charged my card before I could eat my first meal from my initial order. They charged me 59 bucks and used the same order as the first. SO now I will have 12 disgusting repetitive meals. I called to complain and they said the FROZEN HIGH SODIUM MEALS were already "in production". I will just dispute this with my bank.
Thank you for your feedback - of course, we're sorry to hear that you didn't care for the meals. They should not have arrived frozen, since we don't freeze them at any point.
So sorry for any confusion regarding our service; all of our plans are set up as weekly recurring orders, per the ordering process, checkout, Terms, and initial confirmation email. But customers can skip weeks as needed or even pause/cancel.
We simply require that these actions are taken by the weekly deadline which is outlined in the welcome email, weekly reminder emails, and on Meal Planner pages.

I would not recommend this service to anyone. The food is not what it appears in the images; it comes in deceivingly small quantities with hardly any flavor. And on top of that the customer service is extremely unaccommodating. As a first-time customer, I asked for an erroneous charge to be reversed but "there was nothing they could do about it". Typical money-hungry business set out to make profit through cunning advertising, with quality and service in the backseat.
Thank you for your feedback - of course, we're sorry to hear that you didn't care for the meals.

I hate to cook. HATE it. I will eat a pb& j sandwich every day to avoid cooking. I've been trying different meal delivery services for the past 5 years. All were okay... I saw an ad for freshly on facebook the other week and decided to try them out since they were offering a great deal for 6 meals. Best decision ever! I've had 3 of the 6 meals so far and they have all been 5 star, outstanding. Perfect portion size and they taste great - also ready in 2-3 mins in the microwave and they do not taste like they came out of a microwave. I think I could put them on a plate and fool a dinner guest into thinking that I was a good cook. This is an auto ship service, so you have to go onto the website and pause your subscription if you want to skip a week. I'm confused by the 1 star ratings that say they were tricked into buying additional weeks, freshly is pretty clear about this and it is super easy to pause or cancel (though I'll not be cancelling!) If you can't figure that out, then you must not be good at the whole interwebs world. Their website is actually one of the easiest that I have found. So any 1 star reviews saying they were shocked to be charged and shipped additional food, did not even bother looking at the website or reading any of the emails. It is all in clear (not fine) print.
And the food, back to the food... so delicious. I've tried the pasta's and the turkey chili so far and am excited to try the rest. I have to skip next week as I am out of town and was able to easily do that in about 2 seconds on the site.
If you hate cooking or cleaning up after cooking and love delicious, healthy food, this is the service for you. I haven't eaten this healthy in a long time. I'm super excited to be a new customer and looking forward to the next delivery.
We are on week 5 of Freshly. As long as they continue to add new dishes, we'll keep ordering!
Here's the thing: this is a perfect solution for people who want to eat healthy, are cool with massive amounts of packaging recycling, and don't like to cook. And if you have gluten restrictions, this is one of the very few healthy fresh options - at any price - that's available. The food is good. It's not spectacular. But that's ok. When I cook during the week, just home from work, tired, tons of things to do later... I am not looking for a gourmet meal every night. I am looking for good, fast, healthy. Freshly does that 100%.
Everyone who is complaining about the 'auto send' meals just needs to read the website. They don't hide what they do. In my case, we order on Fridays and our meals are delivered on Wednesdays. Done. One week we were planning to be out of town. There's a big button on the site that says 'skip this week'. So I did that, no charge, and next week I'm back to ordering. It's not rock science. Just follow the rules. If I don't pick new meals by Friday, then the next week I'll receive the same food as last week; it's not a tragedy.
While those services that send all the fresh ingredients look interesting, here the's thing; if I loved to cook, I would already be doing that. Maybe they are great for people just learning to cook. I already know how to do that when I want to do it. But when it's 6pm - just walking in the door to a dark kitchen, and I'm already tired and have other stuff to do, Freshly is a great alternative. Literally, we can eat 10 minutes after we get home. Gluten free, good portion - often enough for left overs, fresh, and somewhere between pretty good and great flavor - I'm a fan. Thanks Freshly.
These online companies are popping up all over the place..."Try it at a reduced cost" then next thing you know there are $100 charges on your account and these companies are sending you stuff you don't want or need. It is an unethical scam. BEWARE Freshly is on this list!
Thank you for your feedback - of course, we're sorry to hear that you didn't care for the meals.

I tried Freshly with a discount code. I had 6 different meals. Only one of them, the Caribbean jerk chicken, would I ever care if I had again. And one of them I didn't even finish the chicken was kind of nasty. My take-away there was the grilled chicken is ok, baked not so much. The others were okay, just not "gosh, this is good." If I saw the meals in a grocery store for 2-3$ I would buy them. But a regular price of 11ish dollars apiece for somewhat better quality TV dinners is too much for me. And if I had the kind of disposable income that would make that price seem reasonable to me, I think I could find something tastier to spend it on. I think if you don't find that price out of line, it would be worth trying the service though. Maybe you will find the food better than I did. As for the recurring billing thing, I had zero issues. I paused the program right after I started it, and just left it paused instead of canceling, which is also easy and can be done online in your account.
Thank you for your feedback on the meals, we truly appreciate it! We're always working to improve as much as we can.
I signed up for the trial for 1 week and thought the food was awesome, BUT i decided that the meals were large and i wanted a "diet" plan. I canceled my subscription with NO problem at all... i'm not sure about the bad reviews saying that they got swindled. If you read the website, you know what you are getting into.
I canceled because i wanted to try the food at BistroMD.Com since they were more of a diet plan. I got my first shipment from them, the box was in perfect shape, but inside... most of the sealed meals were not sealed properly. I had frozen scrambled eggs all over the inside of the box. I PROMPTLY canceled the bistroMD and decided to re start my subscription again with Freshly. I've only tried 6 of the freshly meals, but i'm looking forwad to try them all. The BBQ Pork was a little rubbery, but it 100% better than anything that i had gotten from BistroMD.
My fist order was mahi, steak, risotto and jerk chicken. Mahi & steak were better than great. Risotto a bit gummy instead of creamy and the jerk chicken was not highly seasoned and rice too tomatoey. But the chicken was so moist. I plated the food to heat it in 2 stages instead of all at once. I did pause it because as a single I want to eat all 4 meals in 4 consecutive nights. Will keep ordering for sure. Adding Lebanese meatballs and a different chicken to my next order but repeating the steak and mahi!
I've been married for 4 yrs & literally we eat out every night & by eat out I mean Firebirds, Uncle Julio's... yummy places! Price wasn't an issue but we both realized eating out wasn't always practical. I started googling food delivery options but we don't like to cook so it didn't matter if they sent every ingredient in the store. Not interested! I saw freshly and honestly I was a total sceptic. I didn't see how it could taste good but I thought oh well worse case we try it 1 week & no biggie! Ok well we got our meals on a Saturday and immediately tried some... I could not have been more surprised! Delicious! Healthy! Easy! I mean seriously how the heck did I miss this? I'm eating veggies at 41... eating healthier than I ever have! Gluten free-protein based... amazing! My husband feels the same way & trust me we likes... to eat... ok! The ordering process is so easy a 2 yr old could do it. Im glad I'm not one to make decisions based off of any negative reviews but as a grown adult I make choices without anyone's influence.
I honestly don't see how anyone wouldn't love this service bUT to each his own. "As for me and my family we will eat freshly." I've loss 8 pds (not trying to). I have more energy. I truly thank God for putting my eyes on this company. I pray many blessings over the continuation of their services:)
Nicole
I signed up for the trial, it took almost a month and before I knew it there was an email with the FinePrint telling me the next shipment would be out for 60 bucks before I had even eaten one meal
However if you don't mind fraud and deception and you like to spend $12 apiece for a TV dinner this is the company to go with
Yes, all of our plans are set up as weekly recurring orders, per the ordering process, checkout, Terms, and initial confirmation email. But customers can skip weeks as needed or even pause/cancel. (This can be done immediately after placing the order, to stop it from auto-charging.)

Frist -- People need to know look around the web-site for more than two minutes and then you will realize that you can pause your delivery. You can pause it for the week or for as long as you need but make sure you pause it before they ship. They ship every week and bill you every week. You get a discount the first week or two but then its full price. People should not be so surprised by this model.
Second - The food is pretty good. It's not a total meal replacement so, please don't give up on cooking but it's a nice substitute if you don't want to cook but also don't want to eat fatty takeout. You have great options but look at the reviews and try them out. Also, remember that you can always add to your food (salt, pepper...).
Third - The food is healthy if you know how to pick the right food. Just because its fresh doesn't make it healthy. Pizza is fresh from oven too :).
I just tried the Mahi Mahi. Its comes with coconut rice and has about 35g of protein but it also has 6g of sat fat and 500g of sodium. Not bad but be cognizant of what you order. I workout every day and need a meal mid am. This is perfect! Its good and keep me full until lunch time. Finally, the packaging... it's crazy big for four or six meals. I mean you get a cardboard box with a omaha steaks type food box with ice and packaging.
Here is the nice part... its all environmentally friendly. Way more than say Amazon or the million plastic bags from the grocery store. Just recycle and you will be fine. Also people. Its food. It has to be packaged safely or packaging will be the least of your problems.
Enjoy and try it out. Don't worry about the people down below who one can't afford the service or don't know how to use the web-site.
I signed up for Freshly because I loved their ideas of being environmental, healthy and fresh. After I received my first delivery, I would like to say some of the dishes are nice. However, since i will be out of the country next week, I wanted to keep having the order after i come back. My next deliver is next Thursday and I contacted Freshly on Saturday morning to cancel my next week shipment. They refuse to do that because they said they are NOT ABLE to. Ironically, Freshly claimed they want to be environmental but rather shipping food to me that i cannot eat and let the food to be WASTED. There are still 3 more days before they are actually going to ship food.
My guess is either Freshly have terrible control of their supply chain, or they just short of cash, they want to get every penny from their customers with no long term plan. I don't want their business any more.

I found a lot of negative reviews for your service and most of them have very similar complains as mime. I remember when I tried to sign up your service, I have to wait for more than one week before the first available delivery date. One thing your operation team can do is forecast how many people want to cancel everyday and how many people want to add your service at the same time based on historical data. You can ship what people want to cancel to someone who wants a quick sign up. In that way, you can decrease the time for both people have to cancel and people need to wait before next delivery. Again, its problem about how good your firm manages your supply chain.
We're so sorry to hear about your negative experience, Alex. And we apologize for any inconvenience caused by our deadlines.
Our meals are perishable and require a strict production schedule that if deviated from would damage the integrity of the meals and inhibit the efficiency of the production process. We forecast our raw material purchases and procure ingredients at the peak of ripeness to meet very specific demands that fluctuate from week to week. This is why it is so critical to give ample time for changes or cancellations and why we can't pull orders from the production schedule reports after the set deadlines.
At any rate, it's certainly not our intention to be difficult or to take advantage of anyone--we simply have to have a deadline for the aforementioned reasons and try to make it as fair for our customers as possible. Of course, we are always listening to feedback and will continue to do our best to improve our service as we continue to grow.
The food is nothing special. Definitely subpar. The unbelievable amount of packaging waste is disgraceful. If you have any concern for the environment, this is a must-avoid.
Thank you for the feedback! We do our best to reduce our environmental impact as much as possible. Our boxes are recyclable, as are the plastic meal containers and cardboard sleeves. The recycled denim insulation is largely biodegradable, and the gel ice packs are non-toxic, water soluble, and the plastic bags for them are recyclable.
We are always on the lookout for new, innovative ways to reduce our carbon footprint further!
I should have read all the reviews before buying. They have this $39 one week promotion. Their promotion is a auto charge and delivery service and if you call even one day late, they will give you an excuse that they can't cancel your order that gets shipped for Friday. The food is not really fresh but it's a good way for them to pitch you fresh food delivered to your home. Their customer service is horrible. Look for another company and save your time and money dealing with this company.

Coupon was still valid and they did not honor pricing. The deceitfully say on top of the screen "We will apply coupons when we charge your card" My coupon was still valid and on my profile and then they charged me full price. The coupon did not give an expiration date- and why the hell would the coupon still be on my profiles if they were not valid. I check on my profile repeatedly before confirming the change on my meals- and AT NO TIME was it indicated that they were not valid. Be careful you guys.
We're very sorry for any inconvenience caused - we also have notation that coupons may not necessarily be applied, as it depends on the terms of said coupon code. These are also subject to change. Coupons will remain on the subscription settings until manually removed, even if they are no longer valid.
We do appreciate your feedback on this matter, and always take such comments into consideration as we continue to improve on our service and clarity.
Answer: Hi Marc, Thanks for your inquiry! At this time we change one meal per week, typically. We will either remove an item and replace with something new, update the recipe on a current item or just add an item without removing one. As we continue to grow we will have plans to offer even more variety as well!
Answer: Hi Steven, Thank you for your interest in Freshly! We are a weekly subscription service, so you would be charged for, and delivered meals on a weekly basis. However, you can select to skip weeks, or cancel your subscription at anytime! These changes would just need to be made prior to your weekly deadline, which is outlined in your Welcome Email, Reminder Emails, and in your Meal Planner. I hope this helps!
Answer: Our meals are prepared and shipped out from our kitchen in Phoenix.:-) For Arizona deliveries we use FedEx.
Answer: The delivery window they give us is between 9am and 9pm. We package the meals to be safe for 2 days transit time, plus safe to sit outside for up to 12 hours upon delivery.:-)
Answer: Hi Nancy! We do not cook meals based on other programs' guidelines at this time. We're not overly concerned with calorie counts, but more concerned with where calories come from. Our meals are generally high protein, high healthy fat, low carb, low sugar. We use unprocessed ingredients free from hormones or added sugars, and never use chemical preservatives. Please let me know if I can answer any other questions at this time!
Answer: Hi Shawn W, That doesn't sound right! Please reach us at [email protected] so we can take a closer look at this!
Answer: Hi Joyce, Thank you so much for reaching out to us here at Freshly! I'd like to apologize for the delayed response! First and foremost, I'd like to inform you that we're a weekly subscription service, which means you'll receive meals weekly, and get charged weekly as well. Here are the steps to follow while signing up: 1 - Add your email address and zip code in the sign-up box on our homepage. ( www.Freshly.com) 2 - Pick your meal plan. Just keep in mind that our meals have a shelf life of about 5 days unless frozen. 3 - Pick your delivery day from the available dates! The specific day of the week will be your weekly delivery day unless changed. 4 - Select your delicious meals from our 30+ selections. 5 - Add your contact info, payment details, and delivery address.
Answer: Hi Gayle, Thank you for reaching out to us here at Freshly! You can certainly reheat our meals in a conventional oven, however, our current meal containers are not safe for the oven or stove-top, so you'll have to transfer your food to heat it up. First, preheat your oven to 350° F. Transfer your food to an oven-safe dish (don't forget to scrape the sauce out of the tray!) and cover the top in tin foil. Heat for 25-35 minutes, remove foil, and let sit 3-5 minutes, then transfer to your choice of plate or bowl and enjoy! (Keep in mind, heating times are approximate. You'll want to reheat the meal to an inner temperature of 165° F.)
Answer: Hi Angela, Thank you for reaching out to us here at Freshly! We use third-party carriers for our deliveries, such as FedEx in her area! We can deliver Tuesday-Saturday in Southern Illinois--deliveries can occur between 8am-9pm depending on the carriers route for the day. While carrier delays are out of the norm, weather-related issues, road closures, driver confusion, etc. can wreak havoc. We have a dedicated delivery team that works directly with our carriers to ensure successful deliveries, and we're always sure to compensate when delays arise. We certainly hope this helps! To view a list of currently available deliveries, you can enter your zip code at www.freshly.com!
Answer: I've been getting mine in on time, but I assume as with all packages going through USPS, UPS, and FedEx right now, things have been backed up since COVID and only getting worse. So it's not Freshly's fault even if they aren't delivered on time.
