Too many additional charge options for things as basic as customer support if luggage is lost. Seems excessive to me. Plus no carry on availability is surprising.

I couldn't select the seats, whereas on Expedia, for the exact same flights, I could. Plus, American charges an additional fee just to TRY to seat us together, per leg of the trip!
And, the price went up while I was purchasing the tickets.

It is ridiculous to offer a fare that does not include a seat! As far as I can tell, there is no standing option. I had to pay another $30 for a required seat. That is at least misleading to publish fares and predatory at worst.

Pretty bummed about how cheap the flight looks until you add all the seat and carryon fees. Then it comes about the same as other airline costs. Good that it's direct.
