Since this company shifted to a new premises all 3 of my orders have had an error (wrong fabric or amount). In the first instance customer service responded and kindly resolved the issue to my satisfaction. In the second and third instance Customer service will not respond to my emails. I can't call them because I am located in Australia. I feel that they have put me on some kind of "dodgy customer, do not respond list". Very sad about this because I love the selection, price and quality of the fabrics I have received so far (except for the lime green cotton that should have been pink!)
I have placed 5 orders with fabric.com in the past six weeks, and only received one. The other four have been placed to try to replace fabric that they don't have in stock. Customer service has been no help at all, only offering to refund the purchase (which they charged before they even found out if they had the fabric I ordered in stock), a refund which will only be issued in 7-10 days. I will never order from them again.
I have read the reviews on this company and I am shocked. I have been ordering from them for a few years and have been overwhelmingly please at their products and service. I have ordered everything from samples to 45 yards of slipcover fabric and never had a problem. I have normally received my fabric within 4-5 days after ordering. Maybe they are under new management since they moved, although I have order also from them since they moved. I hope things improve, because I pretty much stopped going into local fabric stores because they seem to have everything and at much better prices.
I placed an order with them for a few different items of fabric on 9/30
It took until 10/4 for them to let me know that they were out of stock on an item. In this notification email which came at approx the same time as the shipping notice, they do not offer a replacement fabric or tell you that they are going to refund you.
I emailed customer service the same morning, but it took them nearly two weeks to even respond (10/16). BTW - At this time the item that they were supposedly out of stock on was still listed in stock on their site.
Today, nearly a month later, I have FINALLY gotten my refund. (10/25)
I ordered some corduroy from Fabric.com for our manufacturing plant to cover tables with. Fabric.com confirmed the order, only to come back to tell me the item was out of stock. No big deal.
We were just using the material to cover tables, so were VERY flexible about what color or type of corduroy. However, after being on hold for half an hour when I tried calling to find a replacement fabric, I took their phone message's suggestion and tried the online live chat support.
It was over an hour before someone got with me, only to tell me that my order had been cancelled, and there was no way for them to check what they DID have in stock that could replace the out of stock item.
There are so many other more competent businesses to work with, it's just not worth the time and frustration to deal with a company that can't even tell you what's available to buy.
Ordered fabric that was said to be available. Was not informed of a cancellation of the order. Website was updated the day we were informed of the cancellation, so we made another order figuring that with 20+ yards we should get it. Order was cancelled less than a week before we needed it. Facebook page has a lot of bad reviews as well. I'd recommend looking elsewhere even if it means paying a little bit more...
I ordered several pieces of fabric in 1/2 and 1 yard lengths. There were several (20-40) yards of each fabric in stock when I ordered and while I saw there would be shipping delays I didn't think it would be too bad. A few days later I got a notice that one of the fabrics was out of stock, and the next day got one that told me nearly all the rest were out as well. I emailed them to ask for a cancellation, and after emailing twice and waiting a couple weeks someone finally got back to me and said they would refund me $26. My order was $30. Now $4 isn't a big deal, but I don't want to waste money when I'm not getting anything! I have yet to hear back from them and get my money back. I have ordered a couple times with no problem, but this cam as a surprise. I don't think I'll order again...
I have always liked fabric.com... until the past several months. They moved into a new warehouse a couple months ago, and I guess with the move, they got to be a horrendous mess. Fabric.com offers great sales and free shipping over $35, but I will probably never order from them again. I have been greatly disappointed with the last two orders and their customer service. They had orders backed up and weren't shipping items according to their "will ship in 48 hours." Okay, I can deal with that. A couple weeks after I ordered, I found out that one of the fabrics was no longer in stock. I emailed them, but received absolutely no response.
Ok, so that one time I will forgive them. I ordered a second time, once again buying enough to get free shipping (which is basically why I order from them in the first place) in order to replace the fabric they misplaced. This time, TWO fabrics were taken off my order. I called customer service and the lady refused to do anything for me. It is their policy that they can take whatever they want off your order and not be held accountable. Which is fine, so I ask for them to at least foot the shipping to replace the fabrics. Received a big fat no. I asked for the supervisor (the lady accidentally hangs up on me, but to her credit, she calls me back). She sends me to the supervisor's voicemail after promising that the supervisor will contact me before the end of the day. Never received a call.
I used to stand up for this company, but no longer. I will never recommend them again, and will tell my friends to beware.
They charged me immediately, then did not ship for a week and half and then said they were out of the fabric. They will not refund my money. I have contacted them over 20 times, and it has been over a month and still no refund. I think they are just crooks. DO NOT BUY FROM THEM. Their online chat is a joke. I was on for over 2 1/2 hours and never go through. Called and was on hold for over 3 hours. Email and they never answer. So I am just out my money.
Fabric.com has terrible customer service! Twice they have waited a week to tell me they are canceling my order because of the fabric being out of stock. Never received an email asking whether I wanted a substitute (the fabric being cancelled was basic, solid flannel--easy to replace!). Fabric.com had the gall to charge my PayPal account 1.50 to cover their fees EVEN THOUGH THEY were the ones canceling my entire $175 order. Shameful!
This is the best--after I waited 40 minutes in que for the live online help and wouldn't you know, they turned off the live chat TWO PEOPLE before me. They don't give a darn--so not worth the agony! Horrible service.
There are far better companies... don't waste your money or time with fabric.com.
I used to order quite often from Fabric.com and they always had low prices, and excellent customer service. The last 2 orders I had were a terrible experience. The wrong fabric was sent, the order was delayed with no communication, and it took over a week for customer service to respond each time. The last time I didn't have to return the fabric received in error, this time I did, but they didn't give me a return label, or even a shipping address. They also have already charged me for the replacement. I used to love this store, but they have increased their prices too high, and their customer service has become horrible. I won't buy from them again."
I ordered 27 yards of fabric. It was on sale for 25% off. After the confirmation and the shipping notice, Whoops!. "We are moving our warehouse and your selection is out of stock." there were 110 yards in inventory on the day I received this on both Fabric.com and Amazon.com.
E mails to customer service are not returned. I suppose if I am willing to pay full price, they will deign to sell this fabric to me.
Stay away.
I ordered fabric on Sept 2 and as of today Sept 12 is have not heard a word from Fabric.com other than 2 emails stating that different fabrics in my order are OUT OF STOCK! So not only did the website say IN STOCK on three different fabrics it also said ships within 48 hours...
ALL LIES! I spoke to customer service on Sept 7 and was told the same thing I see several others have been told. They would send and email to the warehouse (it will take several days for the warehouse to see the email) then they would ship ASAP. REally? DO NOT USE THIS WEBSITE!
I placed an order on 9/3/12. I hadn't heard back from the company in over a week so I called to find out about my order. They didn't have more order ready, and some of my fabric turned to be out of stock. They never informed me of this or communicated that things would take over a week to be processed. I would not recommend ordering from this website. I ended up canceling my order and they didn't care in the slightest.
Like many other people, I agree their shipping is crap. 48 hours, my butt! I've ordered with them about 10 different times and have been disappointed with the arrival time almost each and every order. Luckily, I there were no pressing time issues on whether or not I got my fabric in 5 days or if I got it in 2 weeks, so I never raised much of a stink... but they definitely misrepresent when they actually ship out. And when you receive an email notification of the "shipment" it really just means they've created a packing label for it through UPS (and who knows when the warehouse dude or whoever actually turns the package over to UPS).
My very first order, I received double cuts of a few items. I have also received the wrong fabric at times, which customer service apologizes for and tells you to keep (but it's always weird prints, so it's no prize) while they slowly ship you the correct items. About a third of the time, the fabric has weird fuzz on it, likely from some fake fur that was cut before or around my order so they must to a lot of business selling that kind of stuff.
Overall, due in part to the free shipping and also to the fact I am pretty flexible on when I need my fabric... I will probably continue to occasionally order from fabric.com. I am the first person to brush off when a stranger is rude or when a waitress screws up an order, but if you are not like that... then you will likely order once and only once from this retailer, if at all.
Fabric.com is the worst online retailer I've encountered so far. I purchased a small piece of fabric on 7/31/2012 and till this day it was not shipped. They simply created a UPS label on 8/7/12 to fool me into believing that it's shipped but UPS doesn't actually possess the package.
Their customer service made the excuse that they are currently moving and therefore all shipments are delayed. They offered no solution to rectify the problem, only asking me to "understand" that they are moving and I may have to wait indefinitely until they are done.
At this point there's no estimate when my merchandise will be shipped.
My wife had her wedding dress made locally. The woman making the dress totally botched the skirt and we only had a couple of days to get more fabric. Fabric.com not only made special accommodations for us to get the fabric overnighted, they also payed for the extra shipping costs. Their customer service representatives were incredibly understanding and helpful. We will definitely be shopping with Fabric.com in the future.
I have ordered from Fabric.com about 4 times and had great service. I placed my order on 7/9/2012 and as of today, it still had not shipped. So this morning I opened a chat with their so called customer service rep and the rep said she would send an email to the shipping dept to review and I would get an email confirmation when it shipped. Duh ya think? I said what happened to shipping within 48 hrs? Since I am in California, it will be another week before I get the fabric. She said oh no it will be 4 days. Uh hello... business days since they ship UPS. Then I said that they had no problem taking my money right away and why can't they ship like their policy. She said next time don't use Paypal because it takes the money right away. Like I am some degenerate for using Paypal. If you don't want me using Paypal, don't offer it as a payment option. Anyway, I called in and the gal said she would put my order on hold so that she could get the shipping upgraded to 3 day. She told me my order wasn't that big, but I had a lot of cuts. Yeah, I know there are quilters out there who get lots more "cuts" than I do. I make pillows for my business and $157.00 order is big to me. So now I checked my order again, still on hold... not shipped, customer service is closed. They do have a great selection and pricing, but if this is going to be my experience from here on out, I think I will look elsewhere, Might be better to pay more money and get the fabric on time instead!
I love the selection and the prices but lately the customer service has been very poor. I had to return some quilting fabric because I didn't like the color- that was no problem at all. However, their site says to give them 10-15 business days to credit the account. After waiting more than 15 days, I sent an email to them. Their reply was to give it another 7-10 days! Also, they don't ship within the time frame that is promised on the site. Will probably still order from them because the selection is good. Most times you can find a coupon code online for a discount, too. I've never paid full price.
Glad to see I'm not the only one with issues... I returned a sewing foot and was told my customer service that they credited my account on April 5th but there was no credit on my credit card statement. I've called twice for them to research and get back to me with no response. I've finally had to initiate a chargeback with my credit card. Customer service is horrible, would not recommend.
Answer: Hawthorne Threads is great.
Answer: Im using them for almost a year but no more... they keep sending me 25 % discount almost every week to gain me back... NO WAY! Yeah i order atleast 2,000 each order... total loss for them... until now they still awe me money for the fleece fabric i order long time ago, when i order it it has 50 yards of it, after 10 days they gonna tell me its out of stock, waited for replacement, until now no replacement... i got a lot of horrible experience with this company,,, dirty fabric that looks like somebody use it to rub on their body... really really sucks!
Answer: My business is making curtains. I have dealt with this company for the past two years and I think the customer service department is doing the best they can with trying to making it look like the company has it together. They do not have it together at all. There is no excuse with the volume of business that they do that they cannot afford a system that can tell you immediately an item is out of stock. I cannot tell you how many times I have purchased fabric from this company only to learn three days later that it is not in stock. Then they hold the rest of your order for another three to four days after you answer an email telling them to continue to ship the rest of the order. I have had fabric arrive to me balled up in a box that they didn't even bother to put in a bag, I have had fabric with shoe prints on it in the middle of the bolt or pieces of fabric missing from a ten yard order that were cut out of the middle of the ten yards. I am trying to eventually not use this company at all anymore as they don't have a clue as to how to treat customers or just don't care. The only problem is they have run all of the mom and pop online fabric stores out of business with lower prices (this was maybe two years ago) and the smaller businesses couldn't keep up with them so they closed. Now that they have the market they have raised their prices because they have very little competition out there. If you leave a good review for this company you are one in a million that have had a pleasurable experience. Just because you bought from them once and don't have a complaint means nothing, consider yourself lucky.
Answer: It's a US website, so they'll take the money in US dollars, but if they take orders from Australia your bank or payment processor will have to convert the currency according to the current exchange rate and I think they may also charge a fee for doing this.
Answer: Thank you so much for your inquiry. Please feel free to send your contact information to [email protected], and I would be more than happy to forward it to the appropriate people.
Answer: You would have been better off contacting fabric.com directly. It doesn't look like they even know about this website.
Answer: I would call or email them, including as much detail as you can... order #, what fabrics were ordered and approximately the time of the order. Have never had this happen to me from Fabric.com, have from another online site and was lucky that I got the help I needed. Good Luck.
Answer: As a customer of theirs, almost an ex-customer of theirs at this point, I can honestly say they have made absolutely no changes for the better in my case. They have paid absolutely no attention to any of my issues with them, which is why I'm about to become a former customer.
