Caveat emptor
In addition to what others have already noted, know that there is a major disconnect between what Fabric.com offers on its site and what goes on in their warehouse. Their customer service rep explained (and I quote), "that Fabric.com has been attempting to go live since 1999 but it hasn't happened yet." Seriously? Yes, in other words, it has been over a decade and these major problems continue to exist between online orders and their warehouse. For example, a customer places an order in good faith and pays for it with a credit card. Sometime later, the order may or may not arrive in a timely manner, and if something is missing, then and only then, you will discover the distinct possibility that the item you ordered and paid for was in reality--available. Fabric.com offers little, if anything in a way of compensation for the time you wasted in placing your order, and you will continue to waste even more time as you attempt to reconcile your billing statement with the credit card company. While the phone reps at Fabric.com seem amiable, the old adage "let the buyer beware" still rings true, especially if you or anyone you know is currently considering placing an order with them.
I have you all beat- this is my worst experience with any vendor, ever. I have placed the charges in dispute with my credit card company and am filing a complaint with the BBB.
I ordered 15 yards of fabric that was advertised at $5.58 per yard. I received only 10 yards. When I contacted them, I spoke to Natasha who informed me that the fabric was sold per PANEL (the repeat length) which is 24".
I had the item up on my computer screen and it clearly showed the price was per YARD. I told her I was looking at it RIGHT NOW and it shows the price is per yard. She said to refresh my browser, and when I did, the price magically changed to PER PANEL.
YES- they changed the pricing on their website WHILE I was on the phone with them to justify short-shipping my order. Talk about fraud!
I told Natasha I had two different screenshots of that page that I had (thankfully!) taken previously that proved the item was originally advertised per YARD. She didn't care. Told her I was reporting them to the BBB and Natasha said, "Go ahead, I don't care!"
Best part is that she refused to allow me to speak to her supervisor, even though I could clearly hear the supervisor in the background telling her what to say.
I have been a long-time customer but have not used them since they were bought by Amazon. Will never shop at either Fabric.com or Amazon again.
My credit card company and the BBB are both fighting this as I have the documentation to prove that they did not give me what they advertised. They will spend more money and time fighting this than it would have taken to just give me the missing 5 yards of fabric or a credit for what I didn't receive.
LOSERS, LIARS AND THIEVES
I'm shocked by all the bad reviews. I looked them up to give them a good review, but now I think I was very lucky. I ordered 5 types of fabric, and received all but one of them promptly with confirmation emails and shipping notifications.
And while one of the fabrics was different than what I ordered, I was pleased that they responded so quickly to my email. I got a new beautiful fabric as well as the one they mistakenly sent. The thing that I liked most was there customer service. The email was courteous, and they were very quick to remedy my problem.
My first order was some faux fur that said there were 20 yards left in stock. The site says they ship in 24-48 hours, this is not true. I waited 4 days then tried customer service on chat, and they told me it would ship that same day I asked. Then later my order was cancelled because the items were out of stock.
I just started sewing and I was keen on continuing so I immediately order more fur. Then I read all these reviews and got nervous. My order came through fine and it was beautiful material.
I ordered again. This time one of the fabrics had a giant foot long rent in it, and instead of sending me some very pretty flannel I ordered, I received some crappy thin cotton floral print instead, which had the flannel label on it for some reason. Think muslim quality.
So instead of preparing for more clothing projects, I have 1.5 yards of something you can get at walmart for 5 dollars while being charged 14 bucks, and another piece I can use maybe half of because of the rent. Not happy and not using this site again, especially considering all the reviews saying the exact same thing.
Fabric.com employees are extremely slow when it comes to the the packing for shipping! I think that they believe if you order over $35.00 and they ship for free that we shouldn't have a right to complain. If you order on a Monday and it is not shipped out until10 days later, on the following next Thursday something is definitely wrong. They ship via UPS, but it is not UPS it is them getting around to sending out your order.
If I could give 1/2 of a star I would have, very frustrated! Do not even get me started on them having fabric listed and then it is not even in-stock :(
I'm a seamstress and have order from fabric.com numerous times. All of the fabrics have been very nice and high quality. I've never had a single problem with any of my orders! The staff is nice and if you have any questions they return emails fast! Highly recommend fabric.com!
After reading all the negative reviews, I consider myself blessed that I didn't have any problems. I ordered for the first time over the weekend and by Tuesday my order had arrived. Very pleased with the quality of fabric. Pleased with the service. But having read of all the various problems, I am hesitant to order again. Will watch to see if reviews improve any.
I love this site and shop there a lot (A LOT), but a few things you guys from Fabric.com should improve:
1. When you sending email to costumer with noticing that this item available in cuts and customers answers you that DO NOT want it in cuts and you still sending it, it's horrible.
2. You guys should check order carefully. Sometimes some items missing, but you still take the money for missing items. Than you just say, oh 30 days gone, we can't replace it...
3. Where is the super-duper sales 20%-25%-30% gone? I'm waiting many months and nothing happen. In the 2011-2012 sales as these was every two-three months. You'll lose customers...
I still vote 4 stars out of 5, just because remembering good times with fabric.com, but if those 3 points above won't be improved soon, I'll find other ways to shop for fabric.
I LOVE this site. I found it in March 2013 through a blog I discovered on Pinterest. I have ordered with them at least 3 times now and they always have great selection, prices, and are timely. The fabrics are unique and vibrant, and most of them are extremely durable! I love that if I leave the site, I can save my cart for a later date.
The one time I did have an issue was when an item I ordered was not available right away, it was on back order. The item came separately (I did not have to pay any extra S&H). Unfortunately they had sent me a mislabeled fabric, and while cute, it was not what I ordered. After e-mailing customer service, they responded within 24 hours. They sent me my correct order free of charge AND I got to keep the wrong one - which I was considering ordering anyway if they made me return it, it was so cute!
Overall, a fabulous site. I feel bad for anyone who has had troubles in the past, but I have had nothing but quality fabric and wonderful service!
Fabric.com was my worst experience with any online merchant. Over the course of one week after placing an order, I was sent three emails from Fabric.com cancelling an item I ordered. Their customer service did not respond to my emails. This was my first and last time doing business Fabric.com.
Although they have a great selection of fabrics and fair prices, what is the point of wasting my time selecting fabric that I never receive?
I had to give them one star, but they deserve a rating of zero stars.
Looks like they have a great selection of fabric... but... I have ordered twice and both times they don't have the material... UGH... I had to wait 2 weeks to get either refund... seriously. After reading these reviews, I will NEVER order from this site again... too much of a headache!
A few years ago when I started my business, Fabric.com was a wonderful company to use. They had great prices. Coupons were easily accessible. Free shipping on large orders. Fast shipping.
In the last year there's been a complete turnaround. I can't believe it's the same company. And this in the crapper service started before they made their big move.
On the 25th I placed an order, with over 160yrds in stock and 3 days later get a message that I could have in little pieces, not one continuous piece. I declined and requested a refund. It'll be 10 plus days before I get that, but oh not till later because it wasn't put in their system sooner. While I wait, stupid me, I placed another order. Once again plenty in stock at that time. Same thing, 4 days later they're out of stock, cancelled the order and now I'm waiting for a second refund.
This used to be wonderful company to work with. What happened?
Before their recent "transition", I had not had any issues with fabric.com. However, when I encountered my first problem with an order, their so-called "Stellar Customer Service" was proved to be false. The past 3 orders have all ended up being cancelled in some way due to lack of item availability. Of course, I'm sent an email of this the exact same day my card is charged for the FULL amount. Now, I can understand if someone snatches up fabric in their order which happens to be before mine to be pulled, but the company should offer more than a refund or store credit. ESPECIALLY when you want to replace the item. You won't get the discount and you won't get the free shipping. You've inconvenienced your customer and not offering anything to make up for your lack of attention and detail. At least offer them free shipping if they want to place another order to replace what THEY said they do not have in stock any longer (and then don't tell the customer until the day they are actually supposed to ship the item.) Do something for the customer. Make them happy. Or, like me, they will find another merchant to do business with. Coupons are great, but with a little searching, you can pay the same to another source and have a MUCH better experience.
Many items listed are backordered weeks or months. Very slow shipping -- like 2 weeks for a small order. Frustrating!
I ordered 6 yards of fabric. I was emailed a message stating they could only give it to me in 2,1.5, 1, 1, & 0.5 yard pieces and I had 24 hours to reply by email if I wanted a refund. I immediately replied that I wanted a refund because I can only use 6 continuous yards or 3 continuous yards x2. I got an automated message back saying they would respond to my email shortly.
A couple days later I got a shipping notification. I emailed them immediately to say I did not want them to ship. I wanted to get a refund because I could not use the pieces. They sent the same automated reply.
Now I have all these pieces of fabric I can't use and they still have not refunded my card and have yet to reply to my request for a return shipping label. I have never reviewed a sight online before, but I have never been this frustrated, either.
I have ordered 6.5 oz denim from them on 2 different occasions in the last 5 months where they shipped 4 oz denim claiming that it was the 6.5 oz denim (apparently hoping that I wouldn't notice) The 6.5 oz denim was in stock when I ordered it and for 2 days after I placed the order. On the 5th business day it was still showing as pending so i contacted them (at this point the stock show 0) I was told it would be overnighted to me... it was but the 4oz fabric claiming to be the 6.5 oz. When I called they said oops... we will pick it up and refund your money because it is out of stock- it was out of stock the day before as well but I wasn't told this just send replacement fabric. Now they refuse to backorder the fabric to ensure that I get it when it does come in stock in a month! They won't give me the sale price... and although the fabric has been picked up they say they dont expect to receive it til friday then it will be another 7 -10 business days before they return the money to my card. This is a very large order and now I can't get my money or the fabric that I need to fill orders for my online store! I wish I could just find someplace else to buy this fabric... they are successfully killing my business... THANKS Fabric.com for all your help!
I ordered 8 yards on clearance, and without my consent they only sent me 2 yards because that was all they had. They do not reply to emails. Very sub-standard customer service. I won't deal with them again. There are too many better sites available.
I wish I had read these reviews before placing my orders.
I must say that I really like the selection of fabrics presented on the website. They have many organic cottons, and at reasonable prices. Unfortunately, costumer service really sucks.
So far I've placed 4 orders. Every time they arrive very late, and I don't receive any confirmation or receipt online.
The first time I ordered swatches and fabrics, and after waiting a long time, I've received half of the fabrics ordered. If they had told me that some of the fabrics were out of stock, I would have replaced them with other colors.
Anyway, I wanted to believe in them, and I placed other orders after that.
I've received 2 other orders (arrived late) and the fabrics were there, but so wrinkled that I couldn't even smooth them completely with my iron.
Finally, I placed an order for faux leather in December. Again, I've never received by email and confirmation, and I found the box on my porch after coming back from vacation. I ordered 2 fabrics, a glue gun and glue sticks for the gun. When I've opened it, I've discovered that the beautiful floral chocolate faux leather that I've ordered was not there, replaced by a hideous cheap blue fleece never ordered. And the glue sticks, by Martha Stuart, were replaced by a mat pad, unsealed, basically by another random Martha Stuart's item. The receipt lists all the items I ordered, but not the ones inside the box. I've just written them and I will be waiting for a reply, but that was my last order. Such a shame for a website with apparently a very good selection of fabrics.
Answer: Hawthorne Threads is great.
Answer: Im using them for almost a year but no more... they keep sending me 25 % discount almost every week to gain me back... NO WAY! Yeah i order atleast 2,000 each order... total loss for them... until now they still awe me money for the fleece fabric i order long time ago, when i order it it has 50 yards of it, after 10 days they gonna tell me its out of stock, waited for replacement, until now no replacement... i got a lot of horrible experience with this company,,, dirty fabric that looks like somebody use it to rub on their body... really really sucks!
Answer: My business is making curtains. I have dealt with this company for the past two years and I think the customer service department is doing the best they can with trying to making it look like the company has it together. They do not have it together at all. There is no excuse with the volume of business that they do that they cannot afford a system that can tell you immediately an item is out of stock. I cannot tell you how many times I have purchased fabric from this company only to learn three days later that it is not in stock. Then they hold the rest of your order for another three to four days after you answer an email telling them to continue to ship the rest of the order. I have had fabric arrive to me balled up in a box that they didn't even bother to put in a bag, I have had fabric with shoe prints on it in the middle of the bolt or pieces of fabric missing from a ten yard order that were cut out of the middle of the ten yards. I am trying to eventually not use this company at all anymore as they don't have a clue as to how to treat customers or just don't care. The only problem is they have run all of the mom and pop online fabric stores out of business with lower prices (this was maybe two years ago) and the smaller businesses couldn't keep up with them so they closed. Now that they have the market they have raised their prices because they have very little competition out there. If you leave a good review for this company you are one in a million that have had a pleasurable experience. Just because you bought from them once and don't have a complaint means nothing, consider yourself lucky.
Answer: It's a US website, so they'll take the money in US dollars, but if they take orders from Australia your bank or payment processor will have to convert the currency according to the current exchange rate and I think they may also charge a fee for doing this.
Answer: Thank you so much for your inquiry. Please feel free to send your contact information to [email protected], and I would be more than happy to forward it to the appropriate people.
Answer: You would have been better off contacting fabric.com directly. It doesn't look like they even know about this website.
Answer: I would call or email them, including as much detail as you can... order #, what fabrics were ordered and approximately the time of the order. Have never had this happen to me from Fabric.com, have from another online site and was lucky that I got the help I needed. Good Luck.
Answer: As a customer of theirs, almost an ex-customer of theirs at this point, I can honestly say they have made absolutely no changes for the better in my case. They have paid absolutely no attention to any of my issues with them, which is why I'm about to become a former customer.
