I ordered ExpressVPN. The next day, I wanted to cancel ExpressVPN. The chat service is not available.
I wrote emails. No reply jet.
They are located in the British Virgin Islands.
Beware. Stay away from this VPN
I cannot print when Express VPN is turned on. The only solution provided is to enable the "allow access to devices on the local network)" which does not solve the problem. I was told to turn off VPN when I need to print. I was also told they would not inform me when a solution is found.
I had ExpressVPN previously and tried NordVPN due to a promotion through my credit card. NordVPN was absolutely awful. ExpressVPN is so much easier and reliable to use. I switched back and will happily pay more to use ExpressVPN.
I got Express VPN to evade a (very stupid/insane) Reddit IP ban that I did not deserve. Express VPN did absolutely nothing, it didn't hide my IP address at all. Went to my account page to cancel at least twice, but it would keep appearing in my bank statement. They've made it purposefully deceptive when you go to cancel to make it look like you have, when there's actually apparently 2-3 more steps. Garbage product, scam company, stay away.
I signed up for a 7-day free trial. The service caused so many problems that I decided to cancel after 2 days. Then I noticed I had a month's charge pending on my credit card. So, I emailed "support" and received a response saying that I first had to cancel auto-renewal before the subscription could be cancelled. Why? I did that, and the onscreen notification said I did it properly. Then I received a follow-up email saying that I hadn't cancelled auto-renewal. Rubbish, but I did it again, and got a notification saying that my subscription was cancelled, but no mention in any of the several support emails about the billing charge for a "free trial." So, it looks like I have to dispute the charge. So far as I'm concerned this is a racket.
Eventually I received an email which says, "I'd like to let you know that we don't have a free trial." That is a blatant lie. After I emailed by screen shots promoting the free trial, the charge disappeared from my card. But I will be vigilant in looking for future charges to appear. (Unfortunately, the charge has returned and I'm disputing it.)
Same issue experienced by other users. I cancelled the auto-renewal before the end of the free trial. Express VPN kept billing me regardless. No refund issued for the two years for which I was billed fraudulently.
I signed up for this because I was going to Italy for a few weeks and wanted to be protected on my phone when using wifi. Honestly, it just made using the internet a pain. Everything I googled it deemed suspicious and then made me do one of those 'click all the boxes that show traffic lights' things, over and over for weeks. I have no idea if it saved me from any cyber attacks. I then got home, went into my account and turned off auto-renewal. A week later, charged for the next month. I did a chat with the company, who told me it was my fault and that auto-renewal had not been turned of 'completely' and that there were more steps involved. I got no email or direction from from them on these illusive next steps to 'completely' turn off the auto renewal. Dishonest business practices. They refused to refund my money and reiterated that it was my fault that they got away with scamming me. Never again will I use this company and suggest you don't either.
After messaging to cancel my subscription they tried to get me to keep it. I said no cancel it. They said they would cancel. A few months later my husband said we were still getting charged. I messaged them again asking them to refund and cancel. They said they would. They didn't. I took screenshots of my conversation. When I messaged again I explained I have tried to cancel twice and I wanted a refund and I have the screenshot. They requested my screenshots. I emailed them. Then I asked if they record the chats. They said yes they save the chats. I requested copies of all the chats and they refused. She said she could only send her chat with me. She promised they will take care of everything with billing. I am still waiting. Horrible and dishonest company
Went to their website to get a deal they were advertising. The promotion was 49% off of a 12 month subscription PLUS another 3 months for free. They showed the regular price as $12.95 and the discounted price as $6.67 (which is not 49% off). When I went to the payment form I saw in small, faded type that they will bill once for the 15 months at an average rate of $6.67 for each of the 15 months. So the "3 Free Months" are not free at all. You don't see a total cost until you get to this payment form, and it equates to more than $6.67/mo for 12 months. I'm betting they are counting on people not noticing the higher price before they hit the buy button. I will not be purchasing from them.
I signed up for their service while I was on a monthlong trip through South America and I was having trouble accessing all the various SFTP sites I needed for work. The service worked well for me for the most part. However, like so many others on here, I experienced massive amounts of trouble trying to cancel. There is no clear way to simply "cancel." The only option you have is to turn off automatic renewal payments. However, as another reviewer said, their site is deliberately misleading. You have to select the option several times to finally get the cancellation to go through, but there are not prompts telling you you have to do that or that your initial click of the option was not enough. It's straight up fraud. I chatted with support who offered zero help. They offered to refund one month and then said they will "escalate" my claim for further refunds. I'm 100% sure that the escalation will lead to nothing, so have challenged the charges with the credit card company. I have never been so angry with a company in all my life. 100% do not recommend. Would love to see someone bring a class action lawsuit against them for their fraudulent billing practices.
You would think, like with most companies, you could go to your subscription settings, hit cancel and refund.
But nooooooo, you have to open the chat window and they try to talk you out of it. And the lag time for their replies is excruciating. I should have just done a chargeback. It would have been simpler. Not everyone would know what the little icon on the bottom right is.
They continue charging you even if you cancel, need to get on a chat to manage to cancel it. If you hit cancel you will see the subscription is still ON!
Netflix and Hulu blocked me because i had a VPN. Express VPN cancelled my renewal but would not refund the 8 months i still had paid for. It took forever to cancel and there is no one you can call. I needed a VPN because my internet provider was throttling my internet speed because i stream instead of cable.l i kept my cache emptied on all apps and used smart locations. I even matched my zip but still couldn't get firestick apps to stream. If streaming sources wont stream while i have a VPN then how is it helpful? The shady reactions you get when you try to cancel the subscription isn't a plus either. Will not do business with them again.
I'm impressed. I've used the free trial once whilst in Lanzarote, again I paid £10.99 to watch in Majorca. It's easy to download and follow instructions. Just remember to cancel if you dont want to get charged monthly if you only use for a short time. Customer service staff are knowledgable and helpful. My only gripe this time around is I cannot connect to the 9Now app in Australia with the VPN as i'm in the UK. I'm going to get a refund. I don't think they'll be an issue.
I contacted ExpressVPN customer service because it blocked and diverted to voicemail many perfectly legitimate incoming local phone calls. Also, their software prevented me from emailing large attachments like short videos (everything worked with Exprss VPN disabled).
They sent me some canned "fixes" that were totally wrong; for example, they listed a sequence of steps i was to follow in their own software's setup, except that such sequences were simply not available. Time and again. AS a minimum they should know what their own software allows a user to do.
When I asked them to call me for a person-to-person tech support, to get some usable fixes to the problem, they flatly refused and I have their emails that say so.
I therefore give them "one star" for their having no viable customer service and for being aloof and unwilling (technically uninformed and inept)) to answer basic questions correctly.
STAY AWAY FROM THIS VPN.
I have an annual subscription to Express VPN as I am currently in China. The service has not worked for several months and even though I have complained and asked for my money back they said unfortunately is not possible. I don't know any other service in the world that you pay for and then don't get it. Let's say I pay for my electricity annually but I don't get electricity or for my education but I have no classes. I understand there must be difficulties trying to get connected in China but if you are unable to provide the service then you should not charge for it and should give the money back to the customers otherwise is called a SCAM. I had to pay for another service to ASTRILL at the same time which by the way works! I am aware this problem with EXPRESS VPN is not happening only to me as many of my friends had the same issues. For me is not even a matter of money, is a matter of being cheated and that's why I am writing this review I hope other people under the same circumstances join to complain.
Best regards

I won't speak to the quality of the VPN service itself because I did not use it that much. What I will comment upon is their cancellation process which is so misleading that I think it must be deliberate. You are required to click on a button that says "Turn Off Automatic Renewal" 4 times in order to actually cancel your payments. After checking my credit card statement, I noticed that my subscription was not cancelled months after the fact.
Each click of the button takes you to a separate screen. The third screen strongly implies that you successfully disabled automatic payments by stating "Be sure to make a payment by #date to keep your subscription active". It also notes you will receive an email reminder before your subscription expires. In reality, you have to click the same button you just clicked again in order to actually cancel. It's so bizarre that I believe it is deliberately misleading.
I've included images of the process. Honestly f these guys.
This VPN does not work in China, one of the main regions where it is required. The VPN own customer care tells you that it is blocked by Great fire wall in China but they tell you this only after you have bought and paid for the VPN. Do not use.

After dozens of emails where i told them i was not going to renew and turning autorenew off. They turned it back on, talked to my CC company and got a new number. They renewed against probably a dozen refusals to them that i had no intention of staying with their product.
What is this shady behavior? Very bizarre, their emails told me they 'were sorry i was confused' and that i really wanted to renew. I was perfectly clear. Had to dispute the charge
Answer: If you subscribe for ExpressVPN services they will bill you for their services not for Netflix subscription.
