They told me that they already processed the refund and to check with my bank. Huh. After you got my money, you easily dismissed me. Such scammers. I waited for over 2 months. I'm done. I will never believe in money-back guarantees anymore, maybe that doesn't apply to people from 3rd world countries.
After signing up, name, address and AmEx #, oh, no, doesn't support our 1 year old router. Really? But -- we could buy one from ExpressVPN, which we are not techy, so it would sit in box. Then comes the headache of being sure the charge is cancelled. Immediately upon cancellation, our inbox is flooded daily with spam emails -- going on from December 2020 to May 2021, seriously endless.
Expressvpn is horrible. It slows your internet down about 59 percent and puts you in a buffering hell. Turn off the VPN and the Mbps shoots back up where you can watch it. That's why these thieves nail you for a year. I have eleven months left and they won't refund.
Went from 450 to 65. Are you kidding me? They don't tell you that you slow down more than a 80 y/o w/o the blue pills. Really. Test it and dump it. All VPN's slow you down 4 x.
Can't fix webrtc leak test page, search on support page is broken, can't fix linux issue I have, support help is about worthless. And there is nobody is charge to complain to. Never had a problem until a couple of months ago and now I'm leaving
Purchased a month to see if it would work for me, it didn't so I immediately logged onto the website (not the app) and clicked the ‘Turn off Automatic Renewal' on Your Account. I clicked it twice, then a message came up that said to make sure I updated my payment information if I wanted to continue my subscription. THIS is where you need to click the green ‘Turn off the automatic renewal' a THIRD time. If you don't do this, you are still not canceling your automatic subscription and it is still active.
Don't do business with Express VPN! Their service is horrible and the app and VPN are difficult to use. When a problem exists for you or for the company, they take an aggressive approach towards the customer and open a "case" on then and "escalate" it. In other words, they blame you!
The billing and security departments are not keeping the customer's experience in mind; they are making their own needs more important than the customers who are paying the bill and trying to stay anonymous. When a billing question exists, they want all your personal information. In essence, your anonymity is blown. When most companies simply accept or deny a charge based on pre-determined specifications, Express VPN makes an interrogation of it.
Choose another VPN for the list. Some such as Tunnel Bear are affordable and easy to use.
Best Regards,
Fredo
That sh*t just doesn't work, not in and not out of China. In China it keeps reloading and out of China there is never connection when using this bad example of a product! In my honest opinion, Waste Of Your Money!
Other than the fact that Express VPN prevented me from printing to my wireless connected HP Envy printer, and prevented me from sending emails from my Samsung Galaxy 7 cell phone, it was great. I spent nearly 2 hours with their online help, and they weren't any help. The benefit is less than the cost... in terms of AGGRIVATION.
I used another vpn for years and never got targeted ads. After a few days on expressvpn i started getting the same targeted ads on multiple devices. Yes i used all the tricks and settings to block tracking cookies (hence no targeted ads under previous vpn which i dropped due to wifi connectivity issues). The ecpressvpn response bot assumes you are an idiot.
Over priced and somewhat buggy. On my PC it seems to work fine with a few exceptions. First, the kill switch feature only works when the VPN inadvertently loses the connection from the server. Unlike other VPNs that disable the internet anytime the VPN is not connected. I think this is a security issue. Second, on the interface, it shows the previous two server locations you have used. Clicking on either one is supposed to switch you to the server you clicked. It doesn't. The VPN just disconnects and doesn't reconnect to the changed server. You have to click connect again. Third, the speed test "feature" simply doesn't work. Every time I have tried to use it to find the fastest server, the same thing happens. The test starts, measures three or four sites, then locks up. The app needs to be killed in the task manager and restarted in order to regain control. It was reported SIX updates back, but they have yet to address it, Speeds are okay. Connection stability is average. They claim to unlock Netflix if you're trying to watch the USA version from another country. Nope. All are blocked.
Now the real annoyance... My MacBook Pro. OpenVPN won't even connect. The app says it can't find an internet connection, but other apps can, When you set the protocol to automatic, there are constant disconnects. So bad that I've ditched using ExpressVPN on my Mac and I'm using a different provider. Zero problems since I switched. Yes, I have reported these problems to the support department. They claim to be working on a solution, but haven't contacted me in 3 months. They need to just rewrite the app for the Mac. Big Sur brought even more changes and the current app has even more issues with Big Sur.
Their new lightway protocol isn't very efficient for throughput. I get better speeds with OpenVPN UDP. The lightway protocol connects very fast, but is unable to maintain a stable connection so there are constant interruptions. Also Lightway is closed source. Meaning security firms can't audit the code to determine it's safety and encryption efficiency. For now, you might not want to trust this new protocol.
Conclusion... If you have a Mac, look elsewhere. The headaches aren't worth the premium price. If you have a PC, it works okay, but like the Mac, you would think these issues would be addressed immediately for a product that has such a premium price tag.
It was a good service when I signed up. Now it is getting worse. As someone commented, the customer support is all canned messages. They don't reply to what you say. In a lookout for better alternative.
Once I tried to install their buggy software it then bricked my router. Trying to get support to help and I guess I hurt their feelings because they literally BLOCKED me from chat.
So to review...
1. THEIR software bricked my router
2. Tried to get support because they bricked my router
3. Blocked because I wasn't "pleasant" after repeatedly trying to tell them that I could NOT get on the internet... the "support" kept asking me to try a different server to see if I could connect.
It's a little hard to try a server at all when you have NO connection to the internet.
I generally judge a company on when things go BAD not when the go WELL.
In this case... they failed so miserably that I sincerely hope they go out of business.
Now I'm off to buy a new router so I'm out however much that costs?
The customer support is all canned messages. They don't reply to what you say. They just hit a key, and you get a message. Been trying to get help since August. It's October 30th 2020 now!
Good VPN Service before but NOW ExpressVPN …Sucks
Was a good service before but NOW SUCKS. All of the servers in Australia are now blacklisted, so don't expect to BE ABLE to watch any Aussie online streaming services like free TV or paid TV services outside of Australia.
Not sure what other countries are like but possibly just as bad.
Cancelled my membership renewal today, BYE ExpressVPN..
Unless you confuse hours of non-productive circuitous 'chats' to be customer service. I plan to leave Express VPN as soon as I find a provider where you can pick up the phone and resolve an issue in under 10 minutes. But with Express VPN, you can waste hours on these idiotic chats, and still have the ongoing problem. Worthless!
I don't have anyone to complain to other than writing something on this site. And the reason I renew this every year is I don't have better options and I don't want to pay new ones to find out, VPN good or not, it's all about connection and how long you stay connected.
I'm a user from China, joined Express 5 yrs ago from another brand (Vxxx), this is because back then Vxxx can't even access their website or download the app without logging on a VPN first, how ironic. Anyway...
PRO: Buy one then you can use it on your PC, phone, laptop, 5 devices total. For a single user like me it's more than enough.
You can access the update page even if your country blocked the main site. But this is only for PCs, for phone it's extremely challenging, I'm sure other users know what I'm talking about.
If the connection is good, then the speed is fast enough to stream videos on some of the big sites.
Actually I can't think of other good things to say.
CONS:
The connection on the phone is very unstable, when you needed it the most it disconnects 20 times within the hour, however on my PC it's still connected. I don't think there's anything wrong with my iphone, plus I talked to the service guy and he can't seem to find anything to blaim on either according to my log. So I'm trying to connect, ALL THE TIME, I'm a pathetic loser trying to work like this everyday!
This started in 2019 and all I see is "Attention users in China, government escalated this, that, we're working on...". Today, 2 years later I realized, if they want to block you, they block you good and there's nothing you can do but wait it out. Sometimes I think they release emergency updates just to let you know they're working on it, but the results are the same, still can't connect.
To my surprise the service is very average and had constant intermittent breaks. Also to cancel the service was walk through mirrored maze. I thought I had cancelled based on screen messages, however when I was charged again, I see I needed to press the cancel button at least 3 times. Why trick your customers!
Since late 2019, ExpressVPN has not only started to slow but also started to disconnect then reconnect randomly but frequently throughout the day. The worst performance I would get is between 5pm to midnight EST. I'd connect usually to their North American Eastern sites in both Canada and the US. Lately, in the last week the best latency I could get was 24 milliseconds where my local ISP clocks in at 3 milliseconds using speedtest.net with servers in those same locations. I'm using a fiber optic gigabit line as well but ExpressVPN speeds are half or less even in their best of times.
ExpressVPN one of the best VPN services I've used. Big list of countries, good connection and affordable price. Even though there many cheaper services I'm going continue using ExpressVPN.
Answer: If you subscribe for ExpressVPN services they will bill you for their services not for Netflix subscription.
