Avoid this company
August 7, 2017

Doesnt even deserve 1 star.
Avoid ordering from this company. Poor customer service doesnt even begin to describe it. They ship thier products in plastic bags. Sometimes jammed full of plants. They do not send shipping notifications, so my plants were sitting outside in a cold package delivery box in March in Wisconsin for who knows how long before I discovered them. I was expecting this order for spring planting, but there was still snow on the ground here when they shipped. Also they shipped from Illinois, so I know they are aware of the northern weather. Needless to say, nothing grew after I had to keep them inside under grow lights for a month before I could plant them. I had ordered online, but they insist on conducting returns or exchanges by regular mail.
Then they mailed back my return request asking for which plants died, when I specifically told them NONE of the order survived. And I had to mail everything back again, with my replacement items attached. They mailed me a gift certificate and asked that I tell them what Items I wanted them to replace it with. So I had to mail the whole thing back Again!
When I finally got my replacement plants, all the "live" plants they shipped me were clearly already dead before shipping, and they insist I wait 6 weeks to get more replacements. I even emailed photos of the obviously dead plants. It is August and my original order arrived in March, so that is how long it takes to be thoroughly screwed by this company.
F this company for sure.

Their plants show up dead and they don't honor their guarantee. It takes weeks instead of days to get a response and most of the time you can't get them on the phone. This is an awful company, one star is really too good for them.

Horrible service
July 15, 2017

I placed an order in July and after numerous phone calls promising delivery "soon", I received my order in October. Not ideal for planting in Massachusetts. NOTHING GREW! Over $100 wasted, and about $200 in aggravation!

AVOID THIS COMPANY. DONT WASTE YOUR TIME They sent me the wrong order and it is impossible to get it corrected. Their phone service consists of a busy signal. They took the money several weeks before shipping. I spent $20 and after 6 months of complaining, I receive a voucher for $5. They never shipped the correct order. I told them I would never shop there again. So what good is a voucher? It may be cheap, but it's NOT WORTH IT! It's. Not cheap when you add the inflated shipping costs. My only recourse for a refund is the Federal Trade Commission.

I ordered 16 carnation plants. They arrive in ved dormant and pretty dried out. I'm a master Gardener and I have ten green fingers and make anything grow. Not these. I wrote them and after five letters showing proof, they haven't replaced nor refunded.

DONT BUY FROM THEM!
June 29, 2017

This place is a sham and customer service is a nightmare. I bought poplars from them and they arrived bone dry. I've bought poplar saplings before via the Internet so I know how healthy saplings should arrive. These were complete dead. I contacted them. They asked that I please plant them and give them six weeks. I did as I was asked. When they remained dead, I contacted them again and they said I should have returned them within 14days.
Then I looked them up and now realize this is their scheme.
This place is a joke.

I ordered 2 Arizona red shade Gaillrda, 2 mixed Russell Lupines and 3 Tutti frutti lupines mixed last June 2016 it arrived so small then planted it as instructed. Sept I can even see the plant anymore it's all dead so I called Direct garden, talked to a certain Sandra who told me I should call back which I did. Talked to a certain Brandon same tel no. *******943 and he said it will be reshipped to me, been waiting no reshipment received. Winter comes so I thought I should call again next spring. I was able to call June 21,2017 talk to a certain Angie to ask what happen to my reshipment for plant replacement and told me I should call after 1 week, then today I just talked to Chase and she told me they could not do reshipment if I did not send the original shipping label, as I did sent them only a copy. I was able to talk previously to 3 different person on one told me to send the original copy. As I remember I did ordered also to them before I did this order and some plant are dead some are alive I did ask for replacement and I did not get it as I throw the shipping label, they said I should send them a copy of the shipping label, I understand that was my fault, now that I sent them a copy they are telling me to send the original label after talking to 3 person. You jack me around. That's okay, I will never order from you again in my entire life. No good business. You are fooling your customer.

We made a large order which we expected in 10 days, however after 3 weeks nothing. They almost never pick up the phone or respond to messages. We had to cancel as we are in the South and the planting season had gone. We did manage to cancel the order, BUT they sent the plants anyway. By the way the quality looked horrible. However despite their verbal acceptance of the cancellation they did not honor that cancellation and insist on our paying postage to return their unwanted plants. After countless calls and emails they just block us at every point. Truly terrible service, dishonorable and now we are involving lawyers.
It may not be absolutely fraudulent but its pretty close.
Do yourselves a favor and do not use them

DO NOT waste your time or money here! Shipped my first tree and it was dead on arrival. Dry as a bone in the bag. I did a scratch test and it failed so I called the same day and they said to "wait 3 weeks, if no signs of life to send back the label for a replacement tree". So i did. 2nd tree also arrives dead. Also dry as a bone in the bag. I did another scratch test and it too fails. I call them back and ask for my money back. The STUPID CUSTOMER SERVICE MORON says " no refunds after the first 2 weeks of your order". WHAT?! They told me to wait 3 weeks just to see if it was even alive! So I called my credit card and got all my money back but I cant get my time back. Don't waste your time or money. This place is a scam!

Cancelled my order and they shipped it anyway! I was told entire order was cancelled and I would receive my refund by June 1st. I received a refund for one plant. I called and was told I could return the order when it arrived at my expense to send it back. All orders must be cancelled by email and even then its didn't happen. Very poor customer service. I spoke to a Barbara, Melody, and a supervisor named Judy. The Division Manager is Grace Avery. She is in charge of the office and shipping departments. Maybe we should all give her a call! How about we all give the Better Business Bureau a call for this business. There's an office in Peoria, *******741. I've read some of the reviews and see I'm not the only one having problems.

This company has terrible reviews and I wish I would have read them. I ordered some plants that took over a month to be delivered. When they arrived half of them were dead. I contacted the company and they want ME to pay for return shipping. Yet they were the ones to ship dead plants. It seems that it is quite common for them to do this.

DO NOT SHOP THERE!

I did a scratch test and you can see they are completely dead. So now I am out of my money

They say they guarantee their plants but you have to keep the shipping label and s422nd it back to them. Plants were rotten when they arrived but no one else wants the label back - of course, since they have a record of what they shipped - it never occurred to me to keep the label and by the time they responded to my email the label was long gone. Don't buy from these terrible no good very bad people

My 11 year old son took his saved money and decided he wanted a few trees from this catalog at Direct Gardening. Of course they paint a beautiful picture of their trees so it didn't occur to me to check out reviews (my fault there I know). So we ordered my son the trees he picked out and waited.

After calling 2 times and waited over a month and a half, we finally received them... in a green garbage bag with zero protection. The Weeping Cherry was broken, the only leaves it had were broken in two pieces. The Scarlet Maples and Weeping Willows were brown sticks with roots, I have zero faith this will come bk but we'll see.

What irritates me the most is the way it was shipped. We paid $9.99 for shipping which was plenty enough for some bubble wrap or something! Maybe a box? Did they really think a live Weeping Cherry and a Pink Dogwood in a pot, would make the trip without getting broken? In the mail, not even UPS or FedEx like I thought it surly would have been delivered by. This place is a joke and I have learned my lesson, next time I'll go to a nursery.

So my son's first experience with buying live plants were shot and even though I know things can happen, sending them unprotected in the mail in a bag, any company should have known better than that. Do they care about return customers, obviously not. Save yourselves some money and time, this place sucks. Now we'll wait to see if the dead twigs with roots come to life because the Weeping Cherry is already dead. Shame on them!
