I ordered forsythia in mid April. I attempted to contact via email, phone, letter with only an automated response, and telephone always busy. I contacted my bank to reimburse me and they did, but giving direct 30 days to ship. 1 day before their 30 days they shipped. Piece of s()it company. Now I'm stuck with crappy plants I already replaced. I gave them a hand written letter as specified, but they did not live up to this contract. If I was a madman, I would take a trip to IL and give them some packages of my own. Trash company. DO NOT BUY FROM THESE LOSERS.

Plants arrived dead... Very deceptive photos on their website... My fault, I should have read the reviews before I ordered from this disgraceful company.

I received my order this past Tuesday 05/08/2018; the plants were shipped in a plastic bag, smashed and dead. Wow. Who ships plants like this? Why sending garbage to people? After so many years of complaints the company still has not changed their awful practices... That tells me they do not care. I am sending the bag with the smashed and dead plants back and also have already disputed the charge on my credit card. Direct gardening is a company to avoid doing business with! I will never order again from them and to be honest they don't even deserve one star. What a TERRIBLE scam!

WORST COMPANY EVER. NO STARS - SCAMMERS DON'T GET STARS.

Filing a lawsuit now. This is an TERRIBLE scam. Contact Attorney General of Illinois. This can't be allowed to happen to good honest people by scammers. Do not buy anything from these scammers. Enjoy your lawsuit Direct Gardening - would have been easier to give me my money back - but now I want you to spend thousands to represent yourselves in court.

Warranty
April 17, 2018

0 stars for this company. Offer a 1 year warranty on their products only if you have original shipping label. Who the heck keeps shipping labels. I have my receipt and bank statement showing them being paid, they have record of my order but I need the original shipping label for them to make good. Would never use again and highly suggest everyone to run from this company.

My fault, II should have read the reviews before I ordered from them. No I can see why their website does not give you the opportunity to leave any. Received my order today, they were shipped in a plastic bag, they were smashed and dead. Who ships plants like this?. One of the small pots did not even have the 4th plant I ordered. Called customer service, but they did not care. After seeing the reviews after so many years of complaints they have not changed their awful practices. I am sending my stuff back and also dispute the charge on my credit card, I do not trust them.

What a JOKE!
April 4, 2018

I am going to take part of the blame for ordering from Direct Gardening because I didn't look up their reviews BEFORE placing an order. Now that I have received, AND returned (at my expense) my joke of an order from them; I have now realized they have horrible reviews and I KNOW first hand why! My 49 plants (not seeds but plants) were shipped in a plastic bag inside the plastic bag were more plastic bags with roots---no soil, no preserving gels just roots in a plastic bag. I immediately contacted customer service asking for a return label only to find out they don't issue return labels... so if you want your refund you have to pay for the return. So shame on me for not doing my research but hopefully this review will help someone not to make the same mistake I did. DO YOUR RESEARCH BEFORE BUYING ON LINE. FYI BBB rating is D+.

Diseased roses
March 27, 2018
Previous review

I have ordered two roses. Got one late Fall 2017, it died. Had massive dieback when I received it. The second one, delivered two days ago had a massive canker between graft and root. They won't replace rose that died, and have not responded to the photos I sent of recently delivered rose with big canker bulb. Will never order from them again, and will inform every gardener I know. M. Sanshu

Simply put, I purchased 20 creeping phlox and one Cherokee Chief dogwood seedling. Thirteen of the phlox took. Seven died. The dogwood started off great, but died from the top down, no matter what I did to help it or revive it.
I sent a complaint to their "Customer Service" email address, and was told very succinctly what to do to to ask for a replacement. I did what they said, returning the original shipping label and a copy of my complaint.
I received 10 phlox, no dogwood, and no apologies. NONE of the replacement phlox survived. I went to Lowes, bought a few phlox, and they are all now doing well.
Still wondering why I did not receive a replacement tree, but I'm letting it all go. This was just a test, and I didn't spent a lot of money, but Direct Gardening failed the test. I'll never use them again.

This is a company to avoid. I ordered a couple of bulb gardens and a Pampas grass collection during the summer for early fall planting. Two months later, no word. I emailed and was told they "were oiut of stock and had no clue when they would ship". I responded that I was nearing the end of my planting window and got no response. Two weeks later, I emailed them to cancel the order because it was now too late to plant, and was immediately told that they "can't do that since the order has already been sent for fullfillment". I responded as asked when it had shipped and the response was "we don't know. Products are out of stock." Then why, exactly, wasn't canceling the order an option? Three weeks after that, a mailer shows up in my mail with SOME of the products I ordered. For things that they were out of, they subbed in live (sort of) plants. How am I expected to plant those in Colorado n November and expect them to live? Too absurd for words. $145 down the drain.

I ordered some roses for my mothers memorial garden. I received some cheaper plants, but not the roses. However, these bums charged me anyway and wont give me a refund. I would advise everyone to stay away from them.

I made my order in June. I received it on October 19th. Plants with dried out roots just thrown in a box, and they substituted other things for what I ordered. Ordered over 200 daylilys. I received something labeled ground cover. I ordered Canadian Hemlock. They sent Siberian elm. These things aren't even anything remotely similar. I demand they return all of my money. I am thoroughly disgusted with this company. Do not trust them. Do not do business with them. Ugh

All six gerbera daisies had well developed roots... reaching out of their 2.5 inch pots. But, the leaves were yellow, showing they had been shipped the slowest way possible. I have thrown away two as they were beyond help. I am a sucker... so am trying to nurse the others back to health.
Went to Home Depot and hot HUGE, Healthy, Vigorous plants for $9.00 each!

Will NEVER shop at Direct Gardening again!

They sell dead plants
October 11, 2017

Do NOT buy anything from them. They will send you some garbage. Your order will arrive dead. You can plant them as they suggest, anyway your plants will remain dead. You can ask replacement and will get one more package of garbage. All of your replacement plant will come dead. Customer service will not help you with anything. Avoid this company. You will never grow anything from their plants (trees, flowers, berries...). Lost money and time.

This company cannot talk to each other to even figure out your order status. I tried to see what pieces were holding up shipping and spent 2 weeks via email and still couldn't get an answer. The customer service call center can't see orders and are incredibly rude - even the supervisor. NEVER ORDER HERE - there should be zero stars!

I ordered strawberry plants in June. I received 25 DEAD plants. I have asked for replacement or refund since June. I mailed the shipping label, Ccard verification and at least 10 emails. I finally called the company and they could find no record of any correspondence from me. They told me the emails do not count as everything is done by mail. I'm at a complete standstill with them and have no where to turn. Do not use this company!

Crap place to get plants
September 7, 2017

I bought strawberries, blackberries and lavender from this place and all I got for my money was 3 dead sticks for my blackberries even after preparing them with the instructions they sent, never even got a leaf. Planted the strawberries like they said, not one out of 6 even got any sign of life, same with the lavender. I had to wait til the middle of spring before I even got the so called plants. So I missed out on getting any of these fruits this planting season. If your smart you will NOT EVER BUY from this company. I wasted almost 40.00 for nothing but stress and disappointment. I only gave it a 1 star and to me that's to much.
