No communication
April 7, 2020

I bought privet hedges in 9/2019. They were guaranteed for a year or your money back. I planted, watered and fertilized them.It is now April 2020 and not even a bud. Tried calling and emailing no one answers. I think this is a scan to rip you off

I ordered several trees and plants that should have been shipped immediately, as I live in southeast Virginia. I waited a month and called their so-called customer service and was to told to read their shipping policy. They pretend to ship according to the planting zones. My sister ordered her trees from one of the companies who are serviced by Direct Gardening. She received her trees in two weeks and all were healthy.

I ordered a few different plants, including 2 small trees. They did come fast BUT the quality is not good. The clematis are pitiful, the perennials do not inspire confidence and I have no idea if the tress (or maybe I should call them *tree sticks*) are alive or not. Yes, they were cheap but still not worth it.

Dead plants
March 24, 2020

Why would you send Hydrangea trees in Sept? They were like dead twigs and i called them up... no problem just send the label back to us circled with what is the problem and we will resend... GOT NOTHING in the spring. I spent good money and that was only 1 of a two part order... Obviously they don't follow through... and Obviously unlike other companies that reply to bad reviews and those companies send a message of... I am sorry you had a problem... we will reach out to you and try to help... that is the kind of customer service they should have. It is very clear they don't care. They just open a new business and call it house of or another name sell the same thing and just keep going and making money with no consequence. Must be nice... sounds as bad as a Ponzi Scheme.

Shipped plants
March 22, 2020

I ordered some ice plants in the fall that were to be delivered in the spring. I was told that they had been delivered to my front door on a day and time when I was out in the front yard. There was no delivery. I tried calling and emailing customer service and thus far have not heard anything concrete other than a "we'll try to look into it". Very disappointed and will not use this site again

Calla/ canna lillies
March 20, 2020

I ordered calla lilies and canna lillies and all came up, but the calla lillies don't seem extremely healthy at this point and are not but two colors, one isn't even producing color at all, it might not be a calla. Both canna lillies came in out, but the WRONG ones. One is tiny and not healthy, and the other large and healthy but the complete wrong color blooms, it's a common yellow I could've gotten at local store. It was supposed to be a Picasso canna lily. And the other was supposed to be a large Inferno canna. It came out with small red flowers and a dwarf. I ordered March 2020 and I'm now updating my review which was at first 5 stars for delivering within two weeks and plants popping up. But all seem wrong.

Calla lily?
Notice the “inferno canna lily” much smaller than the larger yellow canna lily
“Inferno” is some kind of unhealthy dwarf with small red flowers
Large common yellow canna, NOT a Picasso like I ordered

Not a drawf iris
November 27, 2019

I ordered a set off 3 mixed reblooming drawf breaded iris. What I got was not an iris. I emailed them and sent pictures of what they sent me. They replied about a week or so later. They say they was sorry for taking so long and that I was right, what they had sent me was the wrong plants. They said they where investigating it and would be contacting the grow. Still haven't heard back from them. So I called yesterday and asked what was the hold up for an answer. They told me that they couldn't do anything unless I sent them back the shipping label that was on the bag that the plants came in. I was floored. How can you say to me that you know you sent me the wrong item but will not fix it till I send you the shipping label. So I will never order anything else from them. Can't understand why you would run a company like a scam. Anyone can see from the pictures I have attached that they're not breaded iris.

Worst of all nurseries
November 19, 2019

I wanted to rate this as ZERO. I ordered my plants and within 15 hours I called to cancel the order. They said that they can't cancel the order over the phone, I have to send them cancellation request via email. I did so. I remember that it said processing time is around 2 weeks. But all on a sudden, 2 days later I received an email that mentioned my order is been shipped. Surprisingly I received my order within very short time. Both of the plants were tiny dried broken sticks with fragile/brittle roots. They came in a plastic bag without any hard box, without any stick to protect the stem from breaking. I thought their plants are comparatively cheaper than others. But what ever I spent is a total wastage of money and time.

Be aware of return policy!
I receive my order November 5,2019. I live in zone 9 and was excited about my Yukon gold potato seeds for fall planting. Seeds came molded and dead (see picture). When I called customer service at direct gardening they told me shipments no longer going out as of October 31 and will resume in March of 2020 I can send label back and get my seed replaced in March 2020 or I can send them bad seeds I received and get a refund of $5.99. Either way I'm at loss. I can't get seeds now and most likely will spend more money sending molded seeds back then what they cost me to start with. Awful! I will never order from direct gardening again!

Rippoff
October 31, 2019

They would get a 0 if had could give it. Last year I ordered $500.76 of thyme. When I finally got them, they were black and smelled like mold. I called and they said they were dormant and to plant them. I paid two people to help me plant the 700 plants. Not one lived. I had taken a picture of the shipping label and all the information on the bag as it was raining and I was afraid it wouldn't survive. Of course, it got thrown out but the picture was perfect. When I called them again, they told me to wait until they had a chance to grow. Dead is dead but I waited. When I called and emailed again, they said I had to mail the original label on that nasty bag back. I sent the pictures that were very clear but they refused to give me my money back. Even after I sent pictures originally of how black and dead they were when received. I fought like hell for a year and they finally sent replacements. Guess what? Half were dead but some had green and about 87 were missing. I contacted immediately about the missing and cut the label and all information from the package and kept it. I let them know the condition was not good and how many were missing. A month later they had me mail in the label and a letter requesting replacements for the 87 and told me to wait to see if the thyme grew. It didn't. I got a replacement credit for the 87 missing plants of $53.87 but they refuse to give me the remaining credit so I can actually get something that will live. I am wondering if anything lives they send. DON'T BUY FROM this RIPOFF deceiving company.

Same as other comments, placed an order last summer took forever to receive it. Nothing survived the winter, submitted all necessary items for replacement of items, but got nothing but the runaround then no response at all. Obviously it was just a rip off. Would not recommend them ever, unless you want to just throw your money away.

Dont waist your time
October 16, 2019

Don't waist the time with them after 8 emails they finally tell me that I need to send them the original shipping label reg. Mail and refuse to take the scanned label via email. I only requested a replacement for 2 clematis plants that arrived dead, for sure, they had mold on them. So needless to say I will be letting others know about this and go back to who I bought from before.

I ordered over $130 in plants from DirectGardening, THEN saw the reviews... within a couple days of ordering, I canceled. They said they would attempt to cancel but the order was already in process... that was on 9/24. Total BS, I JUST received the order today and EXACTLY like everyone else, I got DEAD CRAP! I AM sending back AND I am disputing the charge with my bank! Everyone needs to file with Bureau of Consumer Protection/FTC, BBB, and leave reviews EVERYWHERE! Total crooks!

Do Not Order From This Site! I ordered 16 trees this spring, which might I add were barely alive when recieving them. They told me give them a chance and properly take care of them and they will thrive... 7 of which were dead brown twigs in my yard within 2 months after all the proper care needed. So I wrote them back asking for replacements of the 7 which were dead. They did send me 7 replacements which were literally dead yet again and now are brown twigs in my yard again. When I ask for my money back because this is 14 out of 23 that died im not qualified for a refund!? I need to return within 14 days. I responded how are people supposed to know their trees will die within 14 days. And no response. This place is a complete joke would never recommend buying from them to anybody! Id buy Wal-Mart trees over this place any day! Buyer beware

I ordered over 100. Worth of plants to try and save money. All I got were dormant sticks. I did everything they said and only two plants came to life. I asked for replacements or my money back. I got my written request back and the copy of the order saying I needed the shipping label. THE SHIPPING LABEL! They know darn well the dirty bag containing the SHIPPING LABEL would all be thrown away. The order sheet containing all the names and numbers and the and the invoice number and the order date and my address and their address and the payment type etc wasn't good enough! The basic plain shipping sticker would have been! This is a scam. They sell you sticks and if you don't have the shipping sticker off the bag the sticks came in you don't get a refund or replacements. This is so not right. They must sit their laughing every time they get an order. I sent money in good faith and they scammed me and every other sucker who buys from them. As far as I am concerned this is stealing. Why are they allowed to stay in business? Isn't there the BBB or some govt program for scams like these? BEWARE. All other companys work to get you a refund or new plants. Nope not here.

Don't waste your time!
September 25, 2019

Don't waste your time on this rip-off! I got my plants after waiting a month--2 bushes and 3 flowering plants. Don't believe the dormant bunk. They have not grown at all in the recommended 6 week waiting period, and when I tried to get a refund they reported they would only replace and NOT refund because contrary to the grow instructions and recommendation, a refund must be requested within 14 days of original purchase.
Now get this... replacements--additionally received "dormant" plants that don't thrive STILL only have until the 1 year date of the ORIGINAL payment. Why would anyone with a modecum of intelligence believe that any replacement plant would be any more viable than the original that never grew? I couldn't speak with a supervisor and I would advise EVERYONE STAY AWAY FROM THIS SCAM!
