Beware of these people. As stated by others they will continue to charge you forever even if you downgrade and/or cancel. DO NOT USE THE SERVICES OF THIS COMPANY!
Ya want to enter the rabbit hole simply try to unsubscribe from an unsolicited e mail. I called and got caught up in an unbelievable twisted queue... all the while the recording says 'WE CARE ABOUT YOU'. If they can only do this well with their website I would NEVER trust their service.
I bought a 3-month subscription for myself because I wanted to try it out before buying a gift subscription for a friend who is expecting. The first box was OK, but the second box arrived with one item damaged, and I received NO response from customer service despite two attempts to contact them to request a replacement item.
I would NOT recommend this service.
I have been on care for over 3 years. I never had a real issue besides the fact of gettin any reasons after forgetting I was on the site for over a year I used it again when I moved. I started getting responses and everything was goin well until I met a family from hell! After working for this family for 2 months and being beat on and treated like trash by her kids, I started looking for more work. One day I come to work and she lies and says I physically abused her children. Strange, because I have glowing references. She then asked did I still want my job. That same day she have me a one star review and told care I abused the kids. Care. Terminated my account and refuses to actually talk to me and tell me why this has happened. They also will not remove her account either but they have chosen to take her word for me. I was a featured babysitter/nanny and everything. I had great reviews and clearly her story wa a lie. I still cannot get in contact with anybody from care and its pissing me off. The fact they will remove an account with actually talking to the people is ludacris. They also let EVERYBODY you have contacted know that your account is terminated as well. It's absolutely horrible. I will never join care ever again in my life
I had a profile on care.com for a year. I hadn't actually gotten a job through them, but i kept up my profile just in case. I got a text from a family requesting my resume be sent to their email. I sent it and we communicated back and forth. She claimed she was deaf and couldn't speak on the phone. Long story short she sent me a check for my services and the check was fraudulent. I worked 40 hours for this women and she owed me almost $400 for the week. I was unaware the check was bad until i had a hold on my account. I tried to call her and let her know and her number turns out was a google+ phone number, in other words, a fake. I sent a complaint to care.com and all they had to say was that it was my choice in adding my number to my profile. I was not trying to place blame i was just warning them so it didn't happen to future members. I asked if they background checked the families like they do the babysitters and they never responded. It is a poorly run company and they have no desire to help keep their babysitters safe.
I thank everyone for their reviews on this site. I will never use it! I was tempted to use it but when I read all the negative reviews this stopped me from making a huge mistake. I will tel everyone I know to stay away from this company!
Hi Tonya, We are very sorry to hear that you have been discouraged from using Care.com. It is a great site where you can search for care or jobs in your area. We do everything we can to make the Care.com experience a positive one for all of our members, and genuinely apologize when this is not the case. I would encourage you to give us a call or send us an email with any questions or concerns you have about using the site, and we would be more than happy to walk you through all of our features and policies. We wish you all the best, and hope you are able to find the jobs or the care that you are looking for!
So here is a very interesting story that transpired over 3/19/14 and 3/20/14. This is directly related to care.com. I had a would be housecleaner, Justine Schoman, set up to interview and cancelled 3/19/14 in the morning at 0830 for a 12pm interview time saying we were sick. She was unhappy I cancelled and proceeded to tell me how unhappy she was and demanded to know when she could reschedule (5 texts). I didn't respond. She kept pressing. I have 10 or so invasive, rude texts from her. I finally texted that she was unprofessional and rude and would never have her and if she continued to contact me that I would post a review of her behavior on their website. She again texted back and said go ahead... you're the one that's done me wrong. (So I'm guessing a HS Diploma never happened with this one). She then called 2x, I blocked her number, then called and left a voicemail from a landline so I now know her address. This morning, an email from care.com saying they terminated my membership and stated "Under our terms of service, Care.com has the right, among other things and in its sole discretion, to terminate your membership for any reason or no reason, with or without notice." So all I can assume, after nearly 3 years with them as good customers, is care.com decided to be judge and jury based on the statements of some psychotic freak of nature. We live in American right, not Russia? Just checking. I called to ask about things and explain scenario and the company customer service representative just kept repeating their policy like a parrot. I saved all of the psycho's texts and voicemail. Very disappointing and a total lack of any value for customer service to not even try to hear full story. This is a pitiful excuse for a company.
Hi Jessica, I do apologize for the experience you had with Justine. We take all safety issues very seriously, and if you spoke to a representative your report would be immediately sent out to our Safety Team to investigate further. Per the Care.com Terms of Use, we reserve the right to close an account for any reason or no reason with or without notice. While we have no obligation to notify you of the reason for your termination and generally do not provide this information, if you send us a message with the email associated with your account, we would be happy to look into it and see if there is anything further we would be able to do.
This company is awful. After not realizing that the subscription was recurring (I do not recall seeing that when I signed up) I went online to cancel. I received my cancellation confirmation and assumed I was all set. Checked my email today and noticed new emails from Care.com. I logged on and found that I was no longer set to cancel, they showed my subscription as still active, and set to charge my account again in a few days. After a lot of searching on their website I finally found a phone number to call to confirm I was in fact cancelled. Don't even bother attempting to do that. The "customer service" is AWFUL. I spent 20 minutes navigating through the phone menu trying to get a live person, to only be disconnected 3 times. I finally made it into a queue to get an actual person. I was originally told by the auto attendant that I was # 4 in line, then she came back on and said #3. Then, somehow I made it to #5 in line. The next time she came on I was #7. How does happen? How can I start out at #4, then get put down to #7? After 35 minutes I gave up and disconnected. I ended up going to my bank to have a new debit card issued to me and my one on file cancelled. I figured that was better than finding that I was again un-cancelled. WORST COMPANY EVER! I would never recommend to anyone.
Hi Kelly, If you have received a confirmation email that your subscription is set to cancel then you will be all set. With the basic membership, you are still able to receive job applicants and search for caregivers in your area. You would also continue to receive emails from Care.com depending on your personal email settings. I'm very sorry to hear about your experience in trying to reach our Customer Service department. We offer a thorough Help section, as well as 24 hour email support in case you have any questions in the future. If you would like us to confirm that your subscription will cancel, feel free to send us a message and we will be happy to look in to this for you.
I was charged for a year and a half before I noticed. They prey on busy moms who don't have time to check their credit card statements. They refused to refund me even though I only logged on 1.5 years ago. TOTAL SCAM. ZERO STARS. WE SHOULD DO A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT!
Hi Sheila, Our Auto Renewal policy is clearly stated twice on the page when you had initially selected a subscription. We apologize if you were not aware of this, but it is a policy that you had agreed to upon enrolling on the site. Ultimately, it is up to our members to cancel the service when they are done using it. You can cancel your subscription at any point through your Account & Settings page, or by contacting out Member Care team via email or phone. We do apologize if you were unaware of our policies, and wish you and your family the best.
I closed my account in December of 2013 and I just saw on my credit card account that they have been charging me for the past two months and somehow in Feburary I was sent an email thanking me for applying to the premium membership and I havent been on their website since I closed it in December. The only emai lI received from them is a survey on how to make the experience better. I see that this is a habit that their company does. I have closed my account for a second time and will be giving them a call. I am going to assume they will not be giving me my money back just like everyone else. What a bunch of crap. I hope they continue to get horrible review and it reflects on their company. Only then will they realize that “Hey, maybe we should refund the people we continue to take their money from and not screw our customers so we don’t look like a horrible service.” And I am NOT spam.
Hi Samantha, I hope you were able to reach our Member Care team and resolve the issue. I am very sorry about the experience. If you had closed the account in December we will absolutely look in to it and see what might have happened. I would be happy to look in to the account further for you as well and see what we can do. Thanks for the feedback, and I hope we can fix the issue!
I'm a pet sitter and tried to sign up w/care.com Useless! I have much better luck with sittercity or just direct advertising. I spoke with someone at care.com and was less than impressed w/the attitude.
Hi Laura, I'm sorry to hear if you are dissatisfied with the site. If you have any specific questions, I would be happy to look in to your account and help you out! I will be sending you a message as well, and hopefully will be able to assist you in any way I can!
Would also give a 0 if I could. Had a similar issue with being billed for more than the month I signed up for. Seems they changed their policy since I last signed up for a month in 2012. No refund, terrible customer service. Very small print on the whole "you have to cancel or we keep billing you" issue. Major scam. Stay far away!
Hi Allison, Our subscriptions have always been set up to automatically renew until cancelled. This policy is stated clearly on the upgrade page when you select a subscription option, and is also at the bottom of the page just above the "Upgrade Now" button. If you haven't done so already, I would encourage you to look through the refund policy in section 8 of our Terms of Use, or contacting us to see if you are eligible for a refund.
If I could give it 0 stars I would. I signed up for one month and was charged for a year. They would give me no refund. There appears to be no way to cancel the subscription on the site and there is no phone number to call. My credit card company had to call them. And they would give NO refund. I filed a complaint with the better business bureau since I was overcharged by $374.50 that I can't afford.
Hi Wendy, you can cancel a subscription at any point after upgrading by selecting the "Downgrade" link in your Account & Settings page, or by contacting us. As stated on the upgrade page when you had initially enrolled, all of our subscriptions will automatically renew until they are cancelled. Ultimately, Care.com is a self service website and it is the member's responsibility to cancel their account when they are done using the service. If you haven't done so already, please refer to the refund policy in our Terms of Use to see if you are eligible for any refunds on your account. We do apologize about this experience, and wish you all the best.
I was very disappointed in this site I hired a few green people but they they all had mental problems it seem they all want to work when they want to work I tryed to get help but nobody wants to work on the hours I chosen and the drama these girls got
Wow some of the girls were good two the rest is a nightmare well then they starter not feeling good and I count on them and they didn't even work!
Hi Susan, Care.com is not an agency, so the members of the site are not employees of Care.com, they are just individuals who have created accounts. I do apologize if you had met some candidates that didn't fit your needs through the site. If you had a bad experience with someone specifically, I would recommend writing a review on their profile. If you ever have any safety concerns about a member, please don't hesitate to contact us and let us know of the issue. We take all safety concerns very seriously. We do have some great resources on the site through our Safety Center and Articles and Resources pages with tips on the hiring process. I encourage you to review some of these for ideas on ways to make the best hiring decisions you can!
Care.com runs a business based on deception. Look at the multitude of reviews at the Better Business Bureau. I wish I had before I signed up for what I thought was the basic membership at Care.com. I was returning to work after a battle with cancer that I survived, but my marriage did not. I needed care for my daughters as I returned full-time to work still weak with an incurable autoimmune disease.
I had little money and would have never signed up for the platinum version of membership intentionally. Yet I was automatically billed for more than $1,000 over the months and years to come.
I never received any statement from Care.com that I was being billed monthly akin to a Pandora or other billing notice. It was only recently that I was looking at my credit card statement that is comprised primarily of health care charges that I called to clarify. I was referred to Care.com's policy. I called, I wrote emails and letters. The people who work for Care. Com should feel dirty. It's a dirty business.
I will be sharding my story broadly as I feel obligated.
Hi Jill, We are very sorry about this whole experience. We offer free basic memberships as well as premium memberships, and you can choose one of these options when first enrolling or later on in the process. We set our subscriptions to automatically renew because we wouldn't want to interrupt families and caregivers in the middle of messaging, running background checks, and the hiring process. It is stated twice on the page where you enter your credit card information that this is an auto renewing subscription, and is also stated in our Terms of Use. Ultimately, we do have a strict refund policy. We do apologize, and wish you all the best.
I suppose care.com would be OK if I wanted to be a "nanny," but what I actually want to be is a tutor. Every time I've contacted one of their clients about a tutoring opportunity, I always get a "Dear John" letter in response. This is all the more perplexing since my name is Bill.
Hi William, If you would like to privately message us the email on your account, I would be happy to look in to your profile, give you some advice, and see what might be going on! You can also contact our Member Care department with any questions you may have about ways to improve your profile and help you to stand out. If something is going on with the account, we would be more than happy to help troubleshoot and fix whatever might be happening! I do hope this helps, and wish you all the best in your job search!
I would rate it 0 if I could as contacted 5 different housekeepers and made appointments for them to come round and they never turn up, nice to waste my time, Im sure the site is a total scam to rip you off for a monthly subscription.Ive just cancelled my membership which isnt clear how to do but you have to click alter membership level to stop.( lets see if it works or they try and rip me off even more) Cant express how bad it is
Hi rh f! Have you tried posting a job yet? It is a great way to reach out to and get in touch with more caregivers through the site! When you post a job it will get sent out to all of the housekeepers in your area, and they will then be able to message you directly if they are interested and available! By sending direct messages AND posting a job, you can get connected with even more members.
If you aren't sure if you have successfully cancelled your subscription or not, you can always check in your "Account & Settings" page under Membership Information, and you will see if your subscription is set to Downgrade or set to Renew at the end of your billing cycle. If you have any questions about the status of your account, feel free to contact us to look in to it for you!
What a complete waste of everyones time! What exactly do you get with the free service? If you want to make any contact with anyone, you have to pay! There is no free service! What a rip off! Stay away and save your time and energy, both of which you don't have otherwise you wouldn't need their 'services'!
Hi Joanna, I would be happy to explain our membership options for some clarification! As an individual care giver, you can create an account for free, build your profile, search for, and apply to jobs on the site. We also have the option of upgrading to a Featured membership. With this, you will show up as "Featured", get a preliminary background check for free, and are able to contact families outside of their job postings.
If you are looking for care for yourself or your family, you can also create and build a profile for free. You are also able to post a job and search for care providers in your area. People can see, and respond to, your job posting as well. You are right that in order to contact anyone back you would need to upgrade the account. The free membership is a great way to see if there are care givers in your area who are going to be interested and available before deciding to upgrade the account.
I really hope this helps to clear up any confusion and answer any questions you may have about our subscription options! Best wishes!
Unethical and nontransparent business practice!
They kept charging my card for 5 months straight and I was not brought to awareness until my husband asked me about the monthly charge. I subcribed for 1 month and canceled the next month but never got any confirmation email. They said because of that they could not refund/credit my account.
I believe they make money by charging people like this, not because of their services/products. They took $120 from me without any receipt/notice! Imagine $120 x thousand of members who also get charged without a clue? They can not survive long with this dirty and unethical way of doing business.
Awful company!
Hi Percy, It is stated on the upgrade page and in our Terms of Use that all of our subscriptions automatically renew until cancelled. Any time a cancellation occurs on an account, you will receive a confirmation message both to your personal email, and to your Care.com inbox. If for some reason you haven't gotten that email, you can always contact us to make sure the cancellation has gone through. Please refer to our Terms of Use to review our Auto Renewal and Refund policies for more information. We apologize for your experience, but do hope you were able to find the care you were looking for!
This worked for us to find an excellent home health caregiver BUT you need to really do screening work yourself to make sure the person is suitable AND unfortunately like many on-line vendors, figuring out how to actually cancel your auto-renew subscription requires much clicking and reading of squinty-tiny print. Once you select cancel on one screen you are auto redirected to another screen where it is very easy to undo the cancellation if you are not careful. If a company offers a good membership subscription service, they should not have to stoop to making it challenging to cancel in order to maintain revenue.
Hi Diane! We're happy to hear you were able to find a caregiver using our site! While we do some background checks, we always recommend families do their own screening as well. We have great resources on our Safety Center that you can check out for tips and suggestions to help with the screening process!
We appreciate your feedback about the cancellation procedure, and would be happy to pass it on to our team. It's important to make sure you always get a confirmation after cancelling the subscription - otherwise, you can always call or email us to make sure it works!
Answer: Hello, I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and they are currently investigating Care.com. This is important enough to me that they have scammed me out of 6 months of payments and I had to close my credit card for Fraud. If you have had a bad experience with Care.com, I would encourage you to file a complaint with BBB. If enough people complain, then they will take more serious action. Here is the website. It is a short process to submit a complaint. https://www.bbb.org/consumer-complaints/file-a-complaint/get-started
Answer: Steer clear from Care.com or what we prefer to call Care-aless. Com! They are only about profit for them. The site is for trollers that prey on innocent families. You'd be better off putting an ad in your local newspaper. Most local newspapers also have online readership too!
Answer: I am determined to shut this site down. I am contacting news programs, The Today Show, Good Morning America and any and all others. Shut them down!
Answer: This is so sad! I have been on both sides as I have an assisted living home in Pensacola Florida. I used care.com to staff my home; awful. Then when I had myself on as a provider they suspended me for a 14 year old non viloent misdemeanor, and they did not even have my permission to check past 7. They want you to get crappy providers, the good ones are kicked off because once ya get a good one, you no longer need them. Cash cow corrupt company who makes rules up as they go along, I heard 20/20 is doing a special. I plan to contact them, as I am verifiably the best care coordinator hands down, extremely good with direct care. You will only ever be returned 1 month contact the Federal Trade Commission file a complaint that's what I did, the more problems the better the case against care, com
Answer: I would be cautious. I hope she is not moving for the job, as that is NOT a good idea. I get text messages daily from people asking me to email them (often for a friend), or someone coming from out of town or whatever. I delete these right away. First of all, they should go through the regular website and email you. No one would hire anyone without first meeting them, checking references, etc. I am sitting at the home of someone I took with through the Care site. I first communicated via email, then set up a face to face and met the kids. If it seems too good to be true, it is. USE COMMON SENSE! Seriously, if you don't have common sense you really shouldn't be taking care of kids, pets or anyone else!
Answer: Your guess is as good as mine. Maybe they have a big money backer and can screw people of their money and lack of customer service? They should be called, I don't care.com
Answer: If I were you I'd choose another site. Care.com is terrible.
Answer: Some of the clients are looking for cheap labor through the internet for housekeeping. I usually tell the person to call me back for interview finish. Then I would tell them that I am self-employed and they would need to file a 1099 for taxes to IRS.
Answer: Care.com is set up for parents that pay for the service... Parents can enroll for free and place and add. However, If they do not forward their credit card any messages from caregivers will have a blocked phone number. The babysitter cam also enroll for free and make a profile for her services. However if she does nor forward her credit card she can only apply to 8 jobs every 28 days and only the ads from parents that have paid for an account will be able to contact her. DO NOT respond to anyone contacting you on your phone that did not contact through Care.com first... This is always a scam... The message will look like this: I am moving to your area soon and need car for my son/daughter. Kindly respond to my email.(They are looking to scam you for money.)
Answer: Sitter city.com could help you. I have honestly had nothing but problems with care.com. They make up rules as they decide not how things are written and do not follow their own privacy policy. They feed on single moms and dads. As well as children providing for aging parents You can place an add on Craigslist as well, for free and your prospective employee provides their own background check as it can be a most recent one and obtained by themselves at 5 to 10 dollars

Hi Taylor, We would never want any of our members to have this experience, and do everything we can to ensure the safety of all of our members on the site. We always appreciate feedback and any receiving any safety complaints, to make sure that we can keep our members as safe as possible on the site. We have a number of Safety tips on the site that we always recommend reading through when started the job search process. We do apologize if you were not satisfied with your customer service experience, and can guarantee that your report was taken very seriously and passed on to our Safety Team for a further investigation. We run verifications on all members of the site based on the information provided in enrollment, and would recommend again reviewing our Safety Center, as well as our Terms of Use for more information on these verifications. We again apologize for this experience, and we do wish you all the best in your job search.
