I thought that I would be able to sign up to make some money while I looked for another job. I filled out the profile, and then couldn't even get messages from possible employers without paying $30 a month. It basically defeats the purpose of trying to make money. I can't paying for a subscription of that size just to TRY and find jobs. Completely ridiculous. Do not recommend.
I have never dealt with such an unprofessional organization as Care.com. They cancelled my subscription for absolutely no reason and gave no reason for the cancellation. They did it without consulting me or emailing me their reasons. I signed up looking for help and support for my quadrapalegic sister. This organization should be banned from operating a business in this country. I never even contacted one person. It is a really bad company.
Highly recommend staying away from this company.
A few years ago I signed up for care.com and had several job offers and interviews for babysitting/nannying positions. I eventually got another non- caretaking job for a few years, and just recently logged back on an updated my profile to find out I they now charge $30 CAD to "upgrade" your profile JUST TO BE ABLE TO MESSAGE CARE SEEKERS INTERESTED IN YOUR PROFILE! I'm not about to spend money I don't have to message care seekers back and potentially not get the job... And from the honest reviews I've read many care seekers have no idea why they don't get responses to their job postings! Also all of the reviews on their site are 4 and 5 star only; very shady if you ask me! Try any other site first!
Thank you for sharing your account concerns! Please know that Care.com has always required one member to be premium for communications beyond the initial job post and caregiver application. If a family sends you a message you will be able to reply as a free member. However, if you are seeing a message indicating to upgrade to send a message this means that the family is also a free basic member. We allow you the option to upgrade so that all families can send you messages regardless of their membership status and this is just one of the many Premium Membership benefits! Please feel free to contact us at [email protected] to discuss your job search needs further.
I downgraded to the free plan and received an email that I wouldn't be charged anymore after October and November would start my free use period... it's January and I'm still being charged! I contacted customer service because online it said that my billing history ended in October but I got no response then magically I was locked out of my account! Bank says I'll have to get a new card :( I would rate them zero stars if I could!
Here is simple response from care.com the teacher.
Christina T. CareCheck As of 09/12/2019 (0) review
Year exp.$16-21 Hourly rate.
THIS IS HER RESPONSE TO MY EMAIL..."As I am a certified teacher, I charge $70/hr. Please contact me for your 3rd grader if you're interested."
That is 350% more than her highest asking price. She has no experience, no review, yet she is asking for $70 an hour while she can advertise $16 an hour.on care. Com. Does CARE.COM TRULY CARE? NO THERE ARE 100'S OF CON LIKE THIS ON HER WEBSITE
CARE. COME SIMPLY DOESN'T CARE THEY SHOULD CHANGE THEIR NAME TO "NO-CARE.COM
Hi, I am so sorry to hear about your experience. Care.com offers pay-rate calculator to assist when determining hourly rates. We are so sorry to hear that you are having issues discussing pay rates with tutors that you found. Typically, we recommend posting a job with specific job details to reach tutors in your area who are able to meet your families needs. Please contact us at [email protected] with your account information for further assistance with your account/ search!
Care.com manipulates reviews by preventing negative posts that otherwise meet their Terms of Service.
This is why you won't find any one star reviews of providers-they prevent them. I did an inventory, and found only 4 & 5 star reviews. What, with >9million uses to date no one has ever had a neutral or negative experience? Really?
Reviews are one of the most important aspects of a hiring consideration, and yeah they get faked on Amazon, Ebay, Yelp-et etc... but at least every review is not a 4-5 Star Polyanna Piece.
So here is the business model: desperate overworked parent with no time tries to find a care provider... reviews are used for fast evaluation... and the reviews are only conducive to making the hire... never any bad reviews to dissuade.
That is fraud.
And that is not at all in line with their marketed message of "Care".
Here is the kicker from their Terms of Service:
"By using the Site and/or Services, you agree that Care.com may assess, and you will be obligated to pay, $10,000 per each day that you: (i) maintain Care Provider or Care Seeker information (including but not limited to, names, addresses, phone numbers, or email addresses)"
Say what?!
They should rename the site:
WeDon'tCare.com
Ps: tip, if you sign up for a premium (paid) account, cancel it same month-and they will change the $39./mo to $5. On the spot for 6 mo. If you are going to use the lousy site, it should at least not be pricey! :)
Bought month subscription, they changed my profile information, cutting out appropriate important bits. I had the driving and background checks done because they wouldnt let me upload my own and the background check came up with another alias name (first and last) that I have NEVER been associated with. There is no way to contact to ask questions or give feedback to them.
Thank you for the review and I am so sorry to hear about your profile concerns. Please feel free to contact us at [email protected] with your account information for further assistance!
We had their service for 2 months. Sent out multiple jobs for babysitting but no one was interested. Offered $25/hr for a babysitter but the best response was "I just got a puppy for Christmas so I don't have time anymore".
Asked for our yearly membership to be canceled. They took back half of the amount for 1 month.
Boooooo!
Hi Uriah, I am so sorry to hear that you did not find the care that you and your family needed. We do recommend posting specific details about your job needs to reach/attract applicants that are looking to fulfill those needs! We realize that finding care is not easy and we do have new members joining everyday. If we can be of further assistance with your account, please feel free to contact us at [email protected].
I was a member on this site. I was only on for 5 weeks and I had more scams than potential clients.! Some people expect you to just come to their house. No way! Public place first! Anyone can create a account and give faulty information. It's so hard to judge scam over the real thing. When you report them they believe the scammer over the Nanny. HORRIBLE customer service! Ask for management and they send you a email instead and close your account down. So much for calling the safety team for help.
BEWARE BEWARE BEWARE stay away!
Horrible useless service, did not find anyone after a long time of searching and lots of messages sent.
Moreover, cancelling your account is made so difficult that I thought I had succeeded, only to discover a few months later that I hadn't.
Far too expensive for what it is, stay away from this site.
I am so very sorry to hear that you were unable to find the care that you needed. Typically, we recommend posting a job with specific job details to reach caregivers in your area who are actively searching for a care job. Additionally, when you perform a membership downgrade your account will receive an alert message confirming the action. I apologize for any inconvenience you experienced. Please feel free to contact us at [email protected] for billing / premium membership assistance. I hope this helps!
You have to pay $20 a month to respond to messages and apply to jobs. My account was also just completely terminated for posting a picture of my sons "playroom"... and they "notified the community" that I was terminated. So now 89 people in my area probably think that I actually did something bad.
I created and closed a care.com account several years ago. I recently paid for a subscription with care.com through iTunes. I posted a job for New Years Eve. I hired a babysitter. The babysitter didn't get paid, because customer service found that I had a separate, closed account. My refund of the payment I submitted for the babysitter is now pending. I am about to get a refund through iTunes for the subscription. The representative refused to transfer me to a manager. I have to get babysitters through another medium, just because I created and closed a separate care.com account years ago. This is probably the most upsetting reason for not helping me I have ever heard from a customer service representative.
I am an owner of a Preschool in Portland Oregon. We needed temprary help and placed a nanny posting at Care.com for $39.95 for one month. One of their employees called and asked me to try their business listing which is $100 per month and was told my exposure would be better and if I am not satisfied, I could switch back. I said I will try for a few days. After one day, no one applied, I called to cancel. They would not reply back to my messages, will not return the calls. I called my credit card and put a stop on the charge. Care.com contested and said that I have signed up for three months. What a scam. Even after a month, I did not even receive single applicant. DO NOT USE CARE.COM!

This company stole 900$ from us without our knowledge.
While doing our taxes we realized that a company had taken 40$ from our account monthly for the past 2 years. We called our bank and tried to trace the company who was scamming us, however, the bank was unable to come up with an answer as the account was only named "careau" with no other information related to it.
Our bank finally suggested that it must have been care.org.au. We consequently lodged a complaint against them and they quickly told us that we were not the first to complain about this "careau" shady transaction and that the business culpable was actually Care.com.
We made a quick search and realized Care.com was the babysitting website we had BRIEFLY come across TWO YEARS prior searching for a babysitter to look after our son for ONE DATE NIGHT and which ultimately turned into a 900$ SCAM over a period of two years.
A couple of key points need to be made clear:
- The website was promoting a fee for ONE MONTH, we absolutely never signed up for a monthly subscription since we were only looking for a one-time occasion babysitter.
- NO receipt or reminder e-mails were EVER sent to notify the ongoing transactions.
- The name and account number of the company taking our money was untraceable by the bank which resulted in months of search trying to find who was taking our money while Care.com was still silently stealing from our account every month.
Stay very far away from this website, shady, unauthorized monthly subscription is the new highway robbery.
Thank you for sharing your concerns and I am so sorry to hear that you were unaware of the auto renewal policy with your premium account. The auto renew feature is indicated on our enrollment page when you first upgraded, and it's also featured in our Terms of Use, which you did agree to at the time of enrollment on Care.com. We do want members to be aware of the recurring charges when they sign up. Additionally, given we cannot know for certain which stage of the search/hiring process each customer is in, we put the control in their hands to inform us when they have fulfilled their premium needs. I hope this information was helpful and again I am sorry to hear about your frustrations.
Four years ago, I didn't have to pay for the site as a nanny seeking a job. I would get multiple interviews and jobs came easily. Now, the nanny themselves has to pay the site. The monthly payment is $20, which is honestly insane. I understand that people looking for nannies should have to make some form of payment but Care.com became cheap. There are other ways to make money, ads, money from the parents looking for a nanny, sponsors, etc. I tried Care.com in December and paid the monthly membership, messaged multiple people. No response and no one messaged me. It seems like not as many people are using it like before. Four years ago, I would've given this website five stars... today I give it a one star. I honestly have no idea what happened and I can see I'm not the only one who thinks so poorly of this company now.
Thank you for your feedback and I am very sorry for any confusion you have experienced with Care.com's services. We have not changed the functionality of the site. One member needs to be premium for communications beyond the initial application. However, we have given the opportunity to our caregivers to obtain a premium membership which will increase their chances of getting a job if the family they are applying to is still a free basic member. We would be happy to discuss you job needs and review your profile(s) in more detail. Please feel free to contact us with your account information at [email protected].
This site is extremely frustrating and provides no service whatsoever. There is absolutely no screening of people they allow to use this site, we have had a couple of horrible experiences. The people who apply for jobs or have profiles often don't respond, and many have told me they actually don't get messages that I send on the site. It is a terrible experience and I have lost all confidence in care.com as a site that will provide reliable access to quality candidates. I've uses it for tutors, babysitters, nannies, and housekeepers and every experience has been a decline.
Do not join care.com.
The owner are an $#*!!
I tried to delete my profile & there's not a way to do it.
Be careful of this site. Stay away!
Signed up with this site upon finding out of my kid has special needs, wanting backup baby sitting etc. They offered a free trial, but the fine print was for a recurring payment. Of course being very busy and in desperate need of actual help and CARE, I hadn't noticed the recurring payments coming in on the 21st of the month, sneaky. Once I discovered over a year later, I immediately canceled. But their policy is to make you wait a month for cancelling too, so they can process another payment. I called, and was able to get one month back. But for the entire year (where I used the site all of 15 minutes) they have my money and are not going to refund it nearly $500 total.
If you have any type of disability that caused problems in your past please avoid these people. It just is not worth it. The ad that I had placed looking for help for my disabled son was removed because of a problem I had in my past when I was struggling with my own disability.
I signed up just to see what they offer for my sick wife. Never hired a caretaker or interviewed anyone. After a lot of research found out how to cancel. Although they cancelled in Nov they will charge $30 per month until May. What a rip-off.
Answer: Hello, I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and they are currently investigating Care.com. This is important enough to me that they have scammed me out of 6 months of payments and I had to close my credit card for Fraud. If you have had a bad experience with Care.com, I would encourage you to file a complaint with BBB. If enough people complain, then they will take more serious action. Here is the website. It is a short process to submit a complaint. https://www.bbb.org/consumer-complaints/file-a-complaint/get-started
Answer: Steer clear from Care.com or what we prefer to call Care-aless. Com! They are only about profit for them. The site is for trollers that prey on innocent families. You'd be better off putting an ad in your local newspaper. Most local newspapers also have online readership too!
Answer: I am determined to shut this site down. I am contacting news programs, The Today Show, Good Morning America and any and all others. Shut them down!
Answer: This is so sad! I have been on both sides as I have an assisted living home in Pensacola Florida. I used care.com to staff my home; awful. Then when I had myself on as a provider they suspended me for a 14 year old non viloent misdemeanor, and they did not even have my permission to check past 7. They want you to get crappy providers, the good ones are kicked off because once ya get a good one, you no longer need them. Cash cow corrupt company who makes rules up as they go along, I heard 20/20 is doing a special. I plan to contact them, as I am verifiably the best care coordinator hands down, extremely good with direct care. You will only ever be returned 1 month contact the Federal Trade Commission file a complaint that's what I did, the more problems the better the case against care, com
Answer: I would be cautious. I hope she is not moving for the job, as that is NOT a good idea. I get text messages daily from people asking me to email them (often for a friend), or someone coming from out of town or whatever. I delete these right away. First of all, they should go through the regular website and email you. No one would hire anyone without first meeting them, checking references, etc. I am sitting at the home of someone I took with through the Care site. I first communicated via email, then set up a face to face and met the kids. If it seems too good to be true, it is. USE COMMON SENSE! Seriously, if you don't have common sense you really shouldn't be taking care of kids, pets or anyone else!
Answer: Your guess is as good as mine. Maybe they have a big money backer and can screw people of their money and lack of customer service? They should be called, I don't care.com
Answer: If I were you I'd choose another site. Care.com is terrible.
Answer: Some of the clients are looking for cheap labor through the internet for housekeeping. I usually tell the person to call me back for interview finish. Then I would tell them that I am self-employed and they would need to file a 1099 for taxes to IRS.
Answer: Care.com is set up for parents that pay for the service... Parents can enroll for free and place and add. However, If they do not forward their credit card any messages from caregivers will have a blocked phone number. The babysitter cam also enroll for free and make a profile for her services. However if she does nor forward her credit card she can only apply to 8 jobs every 28 days and only the ads from parents that have paid for an account will be able to contact her. DO NOT respond to anyone contacting you on your phone that did not contact through Care.com first... This is always a scam... The message will look like this: I am moving to your area soon and need car for my son/daughter. Kindly respond to my email.(They are looking to scam you for money.)
Answer: Sitter city.com could help you. I have honestly had nothing but problems with care.com. They make up rules as they decide not how things are written and do not follow their own privacy policy. They feed on single moms and dads. As well as children providing for aging parents You can place an add on Craigslist as well, for free and your prospective employee provides their own background check as it can be a most recent one and obtained by themselves at 5 to 10 dollars
