DO not use your credit card information even you want to buy the service ONLY for one month! They will charge you for the next month WITHOUT your permission!
Stay away!
If it isn't obvious by the amount of 1 star reviews, please stay away from this site.
I had created a free account over 1 year ago under the profile setting that I was searching for a caregiver. I logged in today wanting to switch and now become a caregiver. I was having a hard time but finally found a way to see families requesting care but could not contact them. I assumed I needed to upgrade my account so I paid over $60.
Turns out care.com has separate accounts for people that want care vs caregivers. They will make you close your account, reopen a new one under a new profile, and will make you pay the upgrade fee all over again!
They have also disabled any comments from unhappy members on their resources tab so people can't be warned. What a scam.
I signed up for one month subscription and posted one job. Then my job got "rejected" without giving a reason. Then they keep charging me monthly fee for the "one month" subscription for over half a year till I realize it. Of course you are not getting your money back, even though I never used the service for ONCE after $300+ was charged. Their membership clause is "deceiving". Stay away and use other reputable sites that's built on a honest business model for your service needs. I am going to try to dispute through my credit card company. Wish me good luck.
I am an elder law attorney. I would strongly suggest that no person use this company. They are deceptive and deceitful. They have billed my credit card for over $300 and when I explained that the "Terms of Use" were not clear, that I did not use their service except for one month (and found no credible employees) and wanted a refund. They refuse. They rely on a policy that is subject to any change they wish to make. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. They clearly only "care" about profit. You can do as well paying a small charge to other businesses, or ask your local elder care professional for a caregiver. Not this pathetic company.
Don't sign up with this company. I indicated I was JUST browsing. They haven't left me alone since. I didn't even agree to purchase anything... just BROWSING. Don't do it.
This is a complete scam. I signed up looking for a housekeeper. I received an email saying they wouldn't post the job because I had to register as a business looking for an employee. They do not have ANY way to contact them or get a refund. When I searched Google for a phone number I got a woman in India who only wanted information to send me a bogus gift card. STAY AWAY!
The automatic billing renews annually. My wife thought it was something necessary on the credit card that I was using. Low and behold we paid a $39 monthly fee for years and didn't realize it. The hemorrhaging is now ceased and lucky for us they are refunding a single $39 monthly fee along with discontinuing the agreement. I will use the refund for a bottle of whiskey to help with pain. The final insurance of never having another payment to them will be to cancel the credit card next week. The services are fine, but we unfortunately funded much more than we used.
I signed up for a paid membership after realizing that their free membership wouldn't allow anyone to contact me or me to contact them. After one client left a negative review for me that lied and said they interviewed me, which they never did and we never even spoke on the phone, I contacted the help desk at care.com to report the person for putting out fraudulent info about me and wanted it removed immediately. They emailed me and basically told me no they don't do that and I need to handle it myself by contacting the person that did it or leave a reply to their bad review. I had told them in my email that if they couldn't protect me as a paying client and take care of this client's dishonest review then I would xcel my membership immediately, which I did today, They are money hungry and will do nothing for you, Even the search results I get and the emails about new jobs are repeats of old ones. I do not trust them at all and this cinched it for me. Go elsewhere. Do not trust them with your business as they don't deserve it!
To start, the site traps you into a subscription service and then makes it difficult to cancel by subtly hiding the option which their FAQ instructions tell you is under "close account" when there is no such option. You can only downgrade your account and choosing that option doesn't really tell you if you will continue to be charged. You have to wait for their email confirming they will no longer bill you.
Second, of the many candidates contacted only one responded to say she was employed and her profile continued to appear days later as available. Clearly not a monitored or updated database.
Third, there is no clear contact information to obtain assistance or answer questions.
In all an extremely poor experience. Its unfortunate I can't give zero stars as they don't even deserve one. My recommendation: Avoid this site like the SARS COV2 virus and stick to mainstream hiring sites like Indeed or Ziprecruiter.
It doesn't get worse than Care.com. They capitalize on the vulnerability of parents looking for childcare and make them pay for a subscription/membership and trick them into thinking that they will have access to better care providers. They stick care providers in an impossible situation.
I'm an educator looking for work because schools are closed due to COVID-19. I will soon be unemployed... but just their BASIC membership is $60!? Care providers can't afford to shell out money just to find employment. I have a great resume, great work experience, im over qualified for a nanny job... but its what I can manage right now. I've sent FOURTEEN applications and have ZERO responses.
Checked my email this morning to find the attached advertisement from Care.com. "Just pay a large lump sum and you will be 7 times more likely to be hired!"
Probably because they won't let other members SEE OR RETURN YOUR APPLICATION INQUIRIES UNLESS YOU PAY!
Shame on you Care.com
A bunch of mother bloody crooks if you ask me. Its a shame. 6 years ago I used them to find the greatest family to work for, I STILL have contact with them... but that was before they monopolized and monetized the business between families and care providers.
A wolf in sheep's clothing.
I have been charging a subscription fee since 2015 without knowing, no text msg, no email confirmation. They refuse to refund the money. Very cold. Very dishonest. Disgusting behavior. This is a disgrace to the "subscription" business model.
Signed for Premium service on 11/3/17, used the service till 11/25/17 and afterwards getting charged in a regular basis without any notification. All communication goes to gmail account under "Promotion" folder. So far around $640+ being charged silently. Found out from latest credit card bill about the regular charge. Called them and response came back that they would remove the premium service and will revert back last charge. Now, my total loss is around $640 with Care.com for this carefully crafted scheme to get money from customers by the name of one month service agreement. What a shame!
This company is not only flooded with complaints similar to mine, but they also have the arrogance to bill people during these hard times for services never asked/authorized. I have contested these charges to my bank and filed a complaint to my Local District Attorney Offices, Consumer Protection Unit, about the matter. This is outrageous. I will leave reviews everywhere. If anyone wants to participate in a YouTube video about their illegal billing practices, I will start a short video soon slurpppe gmail
* Update:
(The no so caring) care.com replied to my posting and, not so surprisingly, lied. In 2018, I complained about their illegal billing practices and I received an email from one of their customer service employees stating, I quote - "I went ahead and refunded your last charge of $60.00 and your credit card will no longer be billed. Please note that the refund may take up to one week to appear on your bank or credit card statement" Yes, you read it right "your credit card will no longer be billed" I never upgraded my what became a "basic account" at this point. Yet, they started to bill my card again in April 2019! These people are deceptively lying and stealing. My local District Attorney Office, Consumer Protection Unit is on it and I will seek legal advice too on top of making a YouTube video. *, STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY.
** New update 05/22/20
My Local District Attorney Office has taken on the matter and is investigating the company. If anyone wants to participate in what could be a class-action suit, email me at slurpppe at gmail
*** New update 06/07/2020
My Local District Attorney Office has started to investigate the case. Now talking with several attorneys about filing a class action against this repulsive company.
****New Update. My Local District Attorney, Consumer Unit, has been backed-up due to COVID but now they're working on their case. 02/08/2022
I started an account recently, went through the process, got verified, applied for jobs, and then all of a sudden a get an email that my account was closed, with no reason given (just a list of possible reasons, none of which apply to me) and no recourse available. After researching on Consumerist.com, I found a lady who was kicked off while interviewing nannies. Apparently ANYONE can file a complaint and Care does not research, they just kick you off. I hadn't even had an interview yet! Really disgusted at this.
Annoying pop ups strategically placed on web page so you can never finish what you're doing without accidentally hitting one. Clients all complain about how site is not user-friendly, "care team" that responds to issues/ complaints takes 4 days to answer (scripted, robotic, worthless assistance.) Would not recommend.
We're so sorry to hear your frustrations, Lisa. I will make sure to pass your feedback along. Please send us an email at [email protected] or message us on Facebook or Twitter for any questions or concerns you may have.
Took payment but I had to go for background check, once i gave all my details they cant find the match. Now i cant access the site. They just took my $40 for nothing. Dont use this site, scam!
I'm so sorry to hear this, Jose. Please email us at [email protected] or message us on Facebook or Twitter so we could look into this for you. Looking forward to hearing from you!
Please do NOT use this website! The people we encountered were not trustworthy (and in some cases just irresponsible!)
Sorry to hear about your experience with the caregivers you've hired from the site. Please send us an email at [email protected] or message us on Facebook or Twitter with more information on this. Thanks so much for your feeedback!
This site provides no value except a platform. You may as well use Instagram or craigslist. Both parties pay to join, pay for background checks, etc. The only thing care.com does is... nothing, they advertise on TV. So that's where your fees go.
This is the worst waist of money every. They charge you $60 every month weather or not you find someone that fits for you or not. I thought I had cancelled my subscription 9 months ago, as it turns out I did not so an even bigger waste of money!
I applied with experience for the housekeeper position but was targeted for discrimination due to the sound of my name.
It's hard to find a good flexible job but to wrestle with a company policy without meeting them is disgraceful. They refused to hire me and never explained why nevertheless the position is still available on indeed. I'm a God fearing woman that feel when something is not right. My Lord told me they racist. I hope this company turn from their evil ways and help people earn a living no matter what.
The Earth belongs to God and technically his children should live comfortable without problems.
Care.com discriminates against people based on their name and nationality even though we all human beings.
The Holy Bible instructed me to have compassion and use wisdom to help make life better but Care.com was not concerned because of my name causing confusion, the bible warn me and proves that hatred still exist, woe unto this company!
Answer: Hello, I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and they are currently investigating Care.com. This is important enough to me that they have scammed me out of 6 months of payments and I had to close my credit card for Fraud. If you have had a bad experience with Care.com, I would encourage you to file a complaint with BBB. If enough people complain, then they will take more serious action. Here is the website. It is a short process to submit a complaint. https://www.bbb.org/consumer-complaints/file-a-complaint/get-started
Answer: Steer clear from Care.com or what we prefer to call Care-aless. Com! They are only about profit for them. The site is for trollers that prey on innocent families. You'd be better off putting an ad in your local newspaper. Most local newspapers also have online readership too!
Answer: I am determined to shut this site down. I am contacting news programs, The Today Show, Good Morning America and any and all others. Shut them down!
Answer: This is so sad! I have been on both sides as I have an assisted living home in Pensacola Florida. I used care.com to staff my home; awful. Then when I had myself on as a provider they suspended me for a 14 year old non viloent misdemeanor, and they did not even have my permission to check past 7. They want you to get crappy providers, the good ones are kicked off because once ya get a good one, you no longer need them. Cash cow corrupt company who makes rules up as they go along, I heard 20/20 is doing a special. I plan to contact them, as I am verifiably the best care coordinator hands down, extremely good with direct care. You will only ever be returned 1 month contact the Federal Trade Commission file a complaint that's what I did, the more problems the better the case against care, com
Answer: I would be cautious. I hope she is not moving for the job, as that is NOT a good idea. I get text messages daily from people asking me to email them (often for a friend), or someone coming from out of town or whatever. I delete these right away. First of all, they should go through the regular website and email you. No one would hire anyone without first meeting them, checking references, etc. I am sitting at the home of someone I took with through the Care site. I first communicated via email, then set up a face to face and met the kids. If it seems too good to be true, it is. USE COMMON SENSE! Seriously, if you don't have common sense you really shouldn't be taking care of kids, pets or anyone else!
Answer: Your guess is as good as mine. Maybe they have a big money backer and can screw people of their money and lack of customer service? They should be called, I don't care.com
Answer: If I were you I'd choose another site. Care.com is terrible.
Answer: Some of the clients are looking for cheap labor through the internet for housekeeping. I usually tell the person to call me back for interview finish. Then I would tell them that I am self-employed and they would need to file a 1099 for taxes to IRS.
Answer: Care.com is set up for parents that pay for the service... Parents can enroll for free and place and add. However, If they do not forward their credit card any messages from caregivers will have a blocked phone number. The babysitter cam also enroll for free and make a profile for her services. However if she does nor forward her credit card she can only apply to 8 jobs every 28 days and only the ads from parents that have paid for an account will be able to contact her. DO NOT respond to anyone contacting you on your phone that did not contact through Care.com first... This is always a scam... The message will look like this: I am moving to your area soon and need car for my son/daughter. Kindly respond to my email.(They are looking to scam you for money.)
Answer: Sitter city.com could help you. I have honestly had nothing but problems with care.com. They make up rules as they decide not how things are written and do not follow their own privacy policy. They feed on single moms and dads. As well as children providing for aging parents You can place an add on Craigslist as well, for free and your prospective employee provides their own background check as it can be a most recent one and obtained by themselves at 5 to 10 dollars
