They overcharge to duties and taxes and for the exchange rate. Essentially charging more than twice the normal rate for both. I know what the taxes are for importation of consumer goods into Canada and they have overcharged me for taxes and duties on every order from Sephora (who no longer uses them, thank goodness) and for Nordstrom (who unfortunately will not ship without borderfree). They also are a hassle to deal with in general. I also find that their packages seem to take MUCH longer to clear customs than packages sent from other shipping companies. Not sure why this is.
I would pay extra to have another shipping option with duties and taxes paid on delivery as borderfree is not worth the headache or the extra fees.
I am really hoping with the move of some Nordstrom stores into Canada that they will stop using borderfree and offer a ship from store or Canadian warehouse option.

This company is a scam. They hold my money since August 2017. They have canceled shipments and 'Partially Shipped' items that have never been shipped in reality. They promise refunds and lie for months.
I would advise to avoid them no matter what SALE they have.
Ordered from Ulta and Borderfree sent me a confirmation email they were going to ship my stuff but they never did. Im still waiting! I emailed them but got no answers, worst company.
I had a great experience with them. Items shipped in a reasonable time, shipping costs minimal, and an issue with the origin company missing an item was rectified quickly and politely. They even refunded the shipping cost for that error (they should have, but lets be honest, many companies wouldnt). I purchased about $150 in items and there were no crazy fees. Really I have no complaints and I think I experienced everything one could have experienced.
After 2 weeks i finally got my stuff from elf in good condition. Shipping to the Philippines door to door was free of charge and smooth all the way. Happy customer here :)
About 6 months ago I had considered using Borderfree (and other similar companies) to get an item shipped from the US to Canada, but because the reviews for these companies were so bad I decided against it. Then last week I ordered a Halloween costume from Partycity.ca and after I had placed my order I realized the item was being delivered from the US by Borderfree. I went and re-read the reviews (hoping my memory was wrong!) but they were all still as bad as before. I truly didn't expect to receive my package.
The costume was ordered on the afternoon of October 14th. The estimated shipping time given was 10-20 days. On the same day I received shipping notification from Borderfree.
Today (Oct 18) I clicked the link in the email to check the shipping status. It said "Oct 17 out for delivery" and the etd was Oct 19th. I went for a walk to my mailbox and the package had already been delivered.
So I don't know what to say. My experience was excellent and trouble free, however due to so many other people having issues with them I would still likely hesitate before using them again.
We had some items sent from target. One arrives and four went missing. They lost the items. And it was impossible to contact them. They don't answer emails. Finally after 2 months we saw refund but still haven't gotten any reply from them. Companies shiuld choose another provider for shipping.
Placed my order in early September for 4 items. All 4 items shipped in separate shipments, with 1 item being out of stock and me never even receiving it. On top of that they charged me for that item too. The whole shipment took more than a month to get here. Never using them again. Avoid at all costs!
Shortly after placing my order through Target and discovering BorderFree, a company I have not ever heard, was going to be in charge of the contents and delivery, I decided to look them up. Initially I was shocked by all of the negative reviews and at the same time concerned with my purchase. However, as it was already too late for me to opt out from my order, I decided I'd just wait and see for myself. Fortunately my experience was quite the opposite the majority these people had as I had a positive experience with BorderFree. They surrendered my package across the American/Canadian border in which from there I knew I was in good hands.
When the package arrived I found it was packaged in a stiff and safe manner. The only downfall of BorderFree is that internationally they take quite a while to process and send out your order. Also, their tracking service and ETA's are off by many days. If you're upset that they denied your order, grow up, stop complaining, and read their Consumer Terms & Conditions of Use as everything is clearly stated right then and there as to what to expect when trusting them with your content(s).
Overall I had a positive experience. But like I did myself, read their conditions beforehand and give them a try and very likely you'll have an average experience.
Got my item 6 days after getting shipping confirmation from Borderfree. Item sat on Borderfree side for 4 days. Will I buy through Borderfree again, I don't know. Maybe until the Order Status section is fixed... There's no way to track the orders after it reaches Borderfree. Order details are not showing any details!
I made an order with ULTA Canada, only to find out after I made the transaction it was thru this third party company, known as BORDERFREE. This has been the worst experience ever. I love ULTA but for them to be working with this scum of a company makes me just want to take my business elsewhere. I spent a pretty penny for them to not have any answers. I was given a tracking number which didn't even work. Whenever I called customer service the first time I was told that it was sitting at customs and that it could possibly sit there for another 3 weeks (mind you it's been a month), which sounds like total BS. This last time they said it was actually sitting in the borderfree warehouse, and didn't know how long it was going to stay there... REALLY?! I am so disappointed in ULTA because they're usually pretty good about keeping their customers happy but in this case, their representatives seemed to not know what to do because " I don't really deal with calls from Canada" I feel as though they should be well rounded in their business and give me better options. The last call I've made since I don't want to take my chances in wether or not I'll get my money back said they couldn't offer me a store credit via my email with the CAD to USD exchange rates applied, since I'll be travelling to the states in the next week. I will never order from ULTA as long as they are still working with this scam of a company "Borderfree", they have no sense of integrity.

THEY SUCK BIG TIME! BECAUSE OF THEM CANNOT BUY ANYTHING! SAKS CHARGED MY CREDIT CARD, BUT THEY JUSTRETURNED MONEY AND SAID TO CONTACT THE BANK BECAUSE THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH MY VISA. TRIED TO USE PAYPAL, BUT THE SAME STORY. USE MY VISA WITHOUT ANY PROBLEM EVERYWHERE ELSE AND THE SAME WITH PAYPAL. BORDERFREE PROMISED TO SEND AN EMAIL, BUT NEVER DID. WHEN I WAS ON HOLD FOR A LONG TIME JUST GET DISCONNECTED.
So I've been quite reading a lot of reviews regarding about the Borderfree. I ordered a pair of shoes from the Under Armour website which was the Curry 2. I must say that it only took 2 weeks to arrive my order. The shoes were in excellent condition as well and i'm very satisfied. So i was really terrified when I heard that Borderfree is a terrible company, turns out it wasn't. Thanks Borderfree, I'm looking forward to work with you again.

Takes weeks to ship out, takes long time to receive. The tracking is faulty and often does not show up. I hate that many brands I like (Carters, Janie and Jack, Loft...) started using this service. :( It is expensive, slow and very bad service. I hope brands using this service will listen to their international customers and stay away from this horrible horrible service.

Borderfree cancelled my orders after I've received a DHL tracking number.
Of course they didn't forget to charge my credit card and the refund appeared multiple days after the cancellation email (WTF?).
Customer service does not answer emails and isn't helpful when you phone them.
Why would you go with a company that treats it's customers like that?
If you cannot handle the free shipping offer you started then at least hire customer service representatives to handle your customers in a reasonable way.
Oh, and I forgot, lot's of email offers - irritating!

After a month of consistent emails and notified delays without promising an exact date, I finally received the Dakine Gemini 28L from eBags thru Borderfree (FREE SHIPPING). The item is in excellent condition. Very satisfied. I'd say I will take another risk if they will offer another free shipping option. I live in the Philippines and it's very expensive to ship from the States, so 1 month waiting time is still acceptable.
