Birchbox does a good job sending incentives to people (points that can go towards purchases) for reviews on the samples that they receive. This makes reviewing totally worth it and the site has so many reviews you really feel like you can get a better sense of most of their products. Anything you receive in your Bircbox you can buy through the website.
The site is easy to use, simple, not too flashy, and they keep it clean. Customer support is awesome. Anytime I received something broken, they send a new box immediately.
I've come to find the experience rewarding and has exposed me to new products and brands that I wouldn't normally find.
Birch box is a joke, you must fill out a questionnaire so they can personalise your box, which they don't they toss anything on hand in your box half the crap they sent went in the trash! If you don't wear lipstick you definitely don't want bright pink lipstick! And I think they make the perfume is grandmas basement! Birch box good idea just not exacuded!
Birchbox is such a cool idea! I love it for myself and gifts for friends. Their website doesn't do them justice. My friends actually sold me on the idea. You complete your profile (hair type, skin type, style, etc) and they send you samples every month for only $10! That includes shipping! You can choose what type of samples you want - makeup, skin care, fragrances, etc. Great gift idea to get a friend a year subscription.
First of all it took almost a month for my first box to come, when it did all but 1 sample was only good for 1 use. All samples very small. I read there would be at least 1 full size product and a free gift, there were none! I will give it one more try but not a happy customer at all big rip off!
I was gifted a subscription by my wife, so I tried not to be too negative about it, but it's really just a scam. They charge you almost $20 a month for a few tiny sample size products that the companies would otherwise just give away for free to try to entice you to buy from them. The pictures on the site lead you to believe that the samples are bigger than they are, but they are usually 1-3 uses. They also send out emails promising the ability to add bonus items to your box, but even if you click through immediately, everything will already be "sold out." They are basically selling you free stuff at a massive markup to try to entice you to spend even more money with them. The one good thing is it's kind of fun to get a box each month and open it up to see what's inside. Also, they charge men double what they charge women - I guess it's payback for women's haircuts etc. historically costing more than men's. Overall, though, I would describe it as a complete waste of money.
To appreciate birchbox, you have to look into their rewards system. For every 100 points you receive $10 off a purchase. Points are acquired through rating products in your box, usually 10 points per product. This could potentially be 70 points! Or $7 towards a future purchase! Products are all high quality, although small at times, some are full size. If you want to try birchbox, feel free to click on this link :) https://www.birchbox.com/invite/h2fvz
I have been using Birchbox for two years now, and I have to say, I still really like it.
The samples are hit or miss, and some months are pretty crappy. They are also REALLY in to sending me anti-wrinkle serums, and even though I'm 31 and all, acne is still a much bigger problem for me. But, I just set them aside and give them as gifts to my mom. I have put other stuff I can't use aside and also given those as little bonus gifts for friends, too.
There have been a few times where they've really hit it out of the park and sent me a sample of something at just the right time, and I've found a new product I'm really in love with. Sometimes, I find out that product is nine million dollars which is of course a bummer! But, sometimes I'm willing to spend 4.5 million dollars, because at least I know something works.
I have had to contact them twice; one time for a box I never received, and another time for a sample that wasn't in the box. They seem to never have samples/boxes left, but both times they sent me 100 points. There was another time that I didn't receive a box and didn't contact them. I suspect someone stole the package from my building, so I felt guilty, especially since I'd JUST gotten 100 points and didn't want to look like I was "taking advantage," but I suspect if it happened again, they'd still give me the points, especially since I've been with them two years.
There was another time where they straight up sent me the wrong thing. But I decided to just keep it since it was twice the price of what I ordered in the first place. If they screw up, I won't feel bad about it. Other mistakes have also worked out in my favor, like putting two samples in my box. The prices on the site are fairly competitive; really overpriced on some stuff, but then there are some very strange things (especially home goods) that are much cheaper than even Amazon. Keep an eye out on the home goods.
Once they started giving 10 points for product reviews of stuff you sampled in the month's box, it was unquestionably worth it to me. A lot of people have complaints about the fact that there's not nearly enough makeup and way too much of the following: perfume, shampoo, conditioner, wrinkle serum (or maybe that last one is just my complaint). This is a definite possibility, but I've also found some great hair products through this, and now that they are letting you pick one of your samples each month, this is definitely going to be less of a problem.
I must have caught a bad month! I have yet to receive my June 2014 box although I've paid for it. I do not find 100 points an acceptable trade when the tracking still says it's in Tennessee... but the company won't refund me! I am so annoyed that I've cancelled my monthly subscription!
As a few others already said, some months are great and some months are not. It really all depends. Overall, I'm pretty happy with their service and honestly, you cant beat $10.00 a month. This monthly box has opened me up to new products I would never have thought to try, much less purchase.
I enjoy getting my birchbox each month. I've been subscribing now for 2 years and some months I get an awesome box and some months, they honestly suck, but for $10 a month, I'm not going to cancel unless I have some big issue. I've never had any problems with my box. One month we got a survey about receiving outdated samples, so they gave us like 1,000 points towards purchasing products on their website (which I've done once). It was no big deal, and appreciated that they acknowledged and apologized for something I didn't even see! I even reuse the boxes. I have so much makeup and samples that I paint the outside of the boxes and use them to hold different makeup and samples! I also used some of them to wrap Christmas gifts :) They charge me around the 1st and I get my box around the 18th- always been the same. No complaints from me! I would recommend if you like receiving samples of products I can't afford or won't really use a lot of (like I'm not spending $30 on shaving cream, but I'll try it a few times!). Keep 'em coming!
Great concept. Sometimes boxes are less than hoped for, but over all good!
I was given this as a gift subscription and it seems they give you things every month that are just freebies and they hope you just buy more of the product. It is like a perpetual sample of grooming aids. The products they give you are very good and I think it is worth more than what my friend paid for it.
Their customer service is decent. I would say I have a very pleasant experience 4 out of 5 times I contact customer service. The rest of the time it's sort of frustrating. So that's where the minus one star comes from. Their responses are pretty quick (maybe around one day).
On the plus sides, their website is very easy to navigate. The website doesn't load well on mobile devices, so that was another check on the not too awesome list of things...
Their free shipping is awesome, if you order anything from that month's shop, you get free shipping on your entire order. If there's nothing I want I usually will just throw the cheapest free shipping item I can into my cart. Their shipping does take a while to get to Hawaii, but I can ignore that when I consider the shipping is free!
Finally gave in to subscribing to Birchbox after seeing a tie in with one of my fav television shows. So far, so good. If you're a product junkie, you will love birchbox!
Okay I also love BirchBox. For only $10 they send you this neat little box filled with goodies like lip gloss, eye liner, nail polish, and other great beauty products and fun gifts. I know BirchBox probably gets all this stuff as free samples and they just put it all together for me and it doesn't cost them anything, but I still love it because it's a nice surprise. So give BirchBox a try... I think you'll feel the same way!
Answer: I've bought a few. I've liked several more enough to buy a full size item but haven't gotten around to it yet because I have enough of a similar product on hand for now.
Answer: The issue I've had with them is that their customer service contact information was difficult to locate, so I get it. I had to contact them over Twitter to get it. The email form on the website doesn't do you much good. Try sending an email to [email protected] for a better response. If all else fails, and you can't seem to get them to stop charging you, contact your credit card company, and let them handle it for you.
Answer: I work at a credit union. What I would recommend in this instance is canceling the card and then disputing unwanted charges. There is no way for the institution to cancel the subscription for you. However, as I said, we can issue you a new card number and help you dispute the charges that you did not authorize.
Answer: You get one point per dollar when shopping in the Birchbox shop. Additionally, reviewing the items you received in your Birchbox earns 10 points per review, and sharing your box on social media also yields you 10 points.
