I used Bark to find a land surveyor for a boundary wall issue. Slightly disappointed that only one surveyor responded (we normally like to get three quotes) but that's not necessarily a bad reflection on Bark.

My mother, now in her 80's, chose a 'professional' roofer using Bark.com- she believed Bark to a trustworthy filter for selecting from a sea of potential cowboy builders, as she had no personal 'safe' direct recommendations.
She is sharp and far from a typical old lady. Her major concern was that she would be overcharged and taken advantage of because she is elderly.
Choosing Bark made her feel safer.
Sadly she has put herself in a very vulnerable situation no thanks to Bark.com
She has now been conned out of £6700 and had signed up to have anther £4000 of work carried out at the roofer's suggestion- for jobs that didn't exist.
She was lied to as the roofing team lied throughout their time at her property and had the audacity to go through her home and into her loft. The work undertaken still isn't finished. These men were criminals and both
Trading standards and the Police are now involved. We have told them about Bark's part in this miserable situation and I hope they close this extremely poor platform down. I also hope no one in their right mind chooses to use them.
Without assessing the professionals they advertise, or the fake reviews- what actually is their purpose. They no value whatsoever.

The overwhelming majority of customers' experiences on Bark are positive, but we recognise that with such a large volume of jobs being agreed on our platform, problems may arise on very rare occasions.
We do not claim to vet any tradespeople who use our site. Our role is simply to put you in touch with a professional in much the same way the Yellow Pages, Google or an advert in the paper would do. We provide public profiles on every professional and an open review system to allow all prospective customers to carry out their own due diligence before hiring any professionals.
We do however take any reports made against professionals seriously, and have flagged this tradesman with management for review when this was reported to us.

Looking for structural engineers for a build project. Only had two responses but never heard back from one after their initial clarification. That said, Sam Reiffer from Rief.co.uk was helpful with our request and quick with is response and quote. The job was completed as required and would certainly use him again.

Storm Ciara demolished the whole of my back fences, exposing the garden from the road, including the oil tank and the rear bedrooms. Within an hour I had been contacted by two good fencing firms, one of which came later that Sunday and gave me an estimate to renew the fencing as I want. The other arrived a day later but didn't send the estimate until the following Friday. As the work was urgent and both firms appeared good and professional, I gave the work to the first one (who were also a bit cheaper) as they appeared more keen to get on with it. They start tomorrow.

I find that Bark.com is a very reputable company. I am the owner of Base Mountain Renovations, I am based out of Surrey B. C. Canada.
