Harassment!
January 30, 2020

Contacted a Retirement facility on my own. Was put immediately in touch with " Diane " What followed was a nightmare of harassing phone calls until I threatened to get authorities involved. WHY DOESN'T OUR GOVERNMENT PROTECT ITS MOST VULNERABLE, ELDERLY CITIZENS? I MIGHT BE OLD, BUT I'M READY TO TAKE THOSE MERCENARY CORPORATIONS ON! E. S.

FRAUD and HARASSMENT
December 31, 2019

OH MY THIS PLACE CALLS YOU every week; I had to block them several times; they did not assist with my parents going to an assistant living. I accessed their site while my husband was receiving chemo; I told them that I was doing research and had to put my name and number in order to review this site. It has been a nightmare since 2018. When 1 parent passed they would not let up; they still kept calling; it was down right harassment!

Hi Melissa, thanks for your review and the opportunity to respond. The goal of an APFM Advisor is to be helpful, not a nuisance. Many times the families that contact us for help are in an urgent situation. On average we respond to an inquiry in less than two minutes. We try to be proactive and responsive, but not overbearing. We honor a family’s request to stop receiving referral information and follow-up calls and to be unsubscribed in our newsletters. If you would like for A Place for Mom to stop contacting you, please write to us at [email protected].

Words cannot express how " A Place for Mom" was a answer to prayer for me and my family. My sister had been hospitalized twice and had a life- changing surgery that was going to make it impossible to return home by herself. I was given a 48 hour notice by her rehab facility to find her a new place to go. I had heard of " A Place for mom through commercials, but was not sure what services they provided. After searching for places for hours with no luck, I called " A Place for Mom". The local representative listened to all of our needs, what we could afford, etc. and immediately gave me a list of facilities that met our criteria. She was very knowledgeable about all the facilities in our area. My sister ended up at Skyline Village in Homewood, Alabama. This facility is absolutely wonderful. It is a independent living facility with services. It is aesthetically beautiful as it situated overlooking the city of Birmingham. It is a close community where the residents care for one another. The staff works tirelessly to make it like home and to make sure all the residents needs are met! Very reasonably priced with great amenities! I can't say enough to express my appreciation for the services provided by "A Place for Mom" and for my sister's new home, " Skyline Village!"

Excellent Care
December 14, 2019

One of the three recommendations that was given to us was C & J Shining Home in Aloha, OR. The care given to my mother-in-law. We are very grateful to Cecilia and her care team for their attentiveness and love given. We would highly recommend C & J Shining Home to anyone looking for a place for their loved one. CJS

Better than expected!
December 11, 2019

A Place For Mom suggested the perfect place for my Mom. I tried to provide all of the information about her and her finances and it turned out better than expected during our trying time. I highly recommend using A Place For Mom as these professionals know the right questions to ask. The follow through by the representative was speedy fast with potential places calling me within an hour. I found the perfect place within 3 days. A Place For Mom was a big stress-reliever. It's also free to the user as the chosen facility pays them.

I contacted A Place for Mom accidentally when trying to get information for my mother and honestly tried to avoid the calls. But when I spoke to Natalie, she was so helpful... she totally understood my needs and pointed me in the right direction, which I was initially resistant to because I thought I had my mind made up. She ended up telling me about a place that was right in my backyard that I didn't know existed. It turned out to be a perfect fit for my mother who has moved in and is happy there today!

American Veterans Aid
December 7, 2019

Don't use them, after paying thousands of dollars to this outfit our mother in law passed away before any benefits were paid. No refund of any kind. You can go to a Veterans representative and he well give you the paperwork and guide you on what to do. It's FREE!
Sorry we didn't do this and wish that a place for mom would investigate their places they advertise, or get paid by.

Not helpful
November 14, 2019

I would have been better off without "help" from this agency. The woman I dealt with seemed mostly focused on getting her commission. I was bombarded by calls and emails from various assisted living facilities. I am familiar with the local area (Charleston, SC) and could have done better by doing an online search myself. (I ended up choosing a place that I found on my own that is not one that gives her a commission.) The Place for Mom rep was in a different part of the state, and she referred me to places not close to me and IMHO not always suitable for my loved one. If anyone wants help in the Charleston area, there is a locally based locator for assisted living that is much more helpful. Look for them!

Hi Ann, thank you for your feedback. Families tell us consistently tell us how much local knowledgeable our Senior Living Advisors have when looking for Senior Living options. To clarify, our Advisors are paid on salary and A Place for Mom is paid by our participating providers and communities, which enables us to offer families a cost-free service with no hidden fees. There are many services online that will simply generate a list for you based on your desired care type and postal code. The majority of these lists consist of a property name, website and phone number. You still need to research each one to determine if they really offer what you need and meet your budget requirements. It can be an overwhelming and time-consuming task. The value of working with A Place for Mom is the opportunity to talk with an experienced and caring professional who can save you time by identifying and prioritize your needs and then finding the appropriate local options that are right for you and your family member.

Why are dads not mentioned in advertising. Where are statistics and benefits for men; isn't "a place for mom" sexist? That advertisement should not allowed to be aired!

A Place for Mom uses fraudulent practices to obtain their referral fees from placement organizations. All this company cares about is their fee - even when they did absolutely nothing to facilitate a placement! I live three states away from my parents in Wichita, Kansas and used the internet to see what options they might have for local care. I was contacted by a representative who spoke with me briefly about my parents situation. I advised that I was simply looking at options and that my parents were planning on staying where they were and I did not want any further contact. A year and a half later, my mom broke her hip and my brother worked with a local person in Wichita to find an assisted living facility who said A Place for Mom would get the referral fee, even though they did no work on the placement. When I contacted Mark Werner, Midwest Regional Sales Representative, whom neither me or my family had ever spoken with asking him to waive the fee, he told me he would call the facility. Instead, that very day, he sent an email to the facility stating he had been emailing, texting and calling me with placement information which was a lie as I had no contact with him whatsoever. All to ensure his organization would get the fee. He basically perpetrated a fraud on my family to receive a commission he was not entitled to. A Place for Mom wants you to trust it - DON'T! If they do this to get a fee, what other fraudulent practices will they engage in to take advantage of elders and families?

Hi Lori, thanks for taking the time to share your experience. We share a common vision with our customers: we all want what’s best for seniors. The last thing we want to do is complicate matters for families during what can already be a stressful time. We're happy to hear that your mom found an Assisted Living community to call home despite any challenges you faced. We understand that the community your loved one moved into has an agreement with both A Place for Mom and this other agency. While we are not privilege to the information in the other agencies agreement we have connected with the community and it is our understanding that the issue was resolved between the community and the other agency per the terms of their agreement. To be removed from any future communications please email us at [email protected].

Do very little to assist families and take money from the community the resident has chosen. Families are bombarded with calls and emails. Google is enough to do the research and make the phone calls to set up tours.

Hi Stacy, we're sorry this was your experience. We share a common vision with our customers: we all want what’s best for seniors. We aim to provide families with the knowledge and confidence to allow them to move forward with good choices for aging family members and add value to our partners by helping them market their community and connect with families that are a good match. Our service helps introduce providers to families and families to providers. Without this in-depth understanding of our communities, providers and personalized expertise from our Senior Living Advisors, we would be no different than an on-line listing service, which is not our business model. The goal of an A Place For Mom (APFM) Advisor is to be helpful, not a nuisance. Many times the families that contact us for help are in an urgent situation. If you would like A Place for Mom to stop contacting you, please write to us at [email protected].

APFM has more than 18,000 partners that span a wide range of care types and price points - Nine out of the top 10 independent living companies, nine out of the top 10 assisted living companies, and five out of the top five memory care companies. Consumers are not contractually obligated to use our service nor do they pay any fees for our service. Because we are paid by our participating providers and communities, we are able to offer families a completely cost-free service. Families are welcome to do their own research to explore communities and services outside of our network, and use that information to make educated comparisons - they can also work with another referral service while they work with us, and/or stop working with us at any time.

Matt was terrific...
October 16, 2019

I submitted an online request for information and was immediately called about the request. At the time I was a little unprepared for a conversation but decided to go ahead and discuss the situation with my mom. I was pleasantly surprised with the support, professionalism, and abundance of information that was provided. Matt was familiar with my location and able to provide wonderful direction and help where needed. This was a difficult time for all in our family and we didn't utilize any facilities or services in the end but will be better prepared for the day we will need it. Thank you so much!

Excellent Experience!
October 16, 2019

Jennifer was so helpful, compassionate and very genuine! My first conversation in was late July. I had 6 places to see in my inbox within 3 days. By August 31, 2019, my uncle was moved into the setting that suits him perfectly!! He is very happy, making new friends, and participating in things like bingo, and making decorations, more than I ever expected!

I would definitely recommend Jennifer and A Place for Mom to anyone!

Hi Kelly - Thank you for your feedback and we are sorry to hear about your experience at the community. We take all accusations of substandard care seriously and we regularly monitor communities for any violations reported by the State. If there is ever an instance where one property has been found to offer substandard care, A Place for Mom will determine whether the community should be removed from its referral list. We have looked into this matter further and we have found that the community has no state violations but we've noted the issue and will monitor. Please share your feedback directly with the community so they can address your concerns and/or if you need to look for a different location for your parents please reach out to your Senior Living Advisor who can assist you further.
