At a time when the stress level was at it's peak, I stumbled across "A Place For Mom". I wasn't looking to place my mom as she no longer needed one. I was looking for assisted living for my son, who is wheelchair bound, and needed to be in a place. Where he would have care and assistance.

My advisor, Jennifer Paquette, was very helpful, encouraging and a good listener. She quickly found a few places for us to check out and within a month we found the perfect place. Jennifer followed up with phone calls and emails and I will always be grateful and appreciative of her humour and concern at a time when this mom needed it the most.

The people of a place for mom were sincere from the beginning and helped me in picking the facility that I ended up placing my mom in. It's been 2 months and know the decision was good!

I recently reached out to "A Place for Mom" for a place for my own mother. I received a call by a receptionist who transferred me to a representative by the name of "Bardee Johnston" when she got on the phone she immediately "Hi Liz, my name is Bardee Johnston we have places from $2500 to 5,000 is this something you're looking for?" I said actually no my mom is on SSI and doesn't make that much money do you know of any other locations that may be a little cheaper. She said "No, I'll send you a resource guide" and just HUNG UP followed by a beep. She didn't take the time to ask me about my mom or what services/amenities she was looking for, or how much my mom was looking to spend, if we had any additional financial resources or try to help out in anyway! She just hung up and sent me some generic resource list with local government agency telephone numbers. But we are not a low income family and my mom doesn't meet the criteria for the government options she sent us. But she didn't even bother to take the time out to ask those questions. It was sad to learn that a company who claims they have seniors in their best interest hire people who truly don't care about seniors or their best interests. I will be doing my own research instead.

We contacted a Place for Mom and told them what type of place we needed, with special extras like a smoking area. They sent us a list of possibilities and we went to see three places, all of which met our criteria. My mother-in-law just moved into her new home and it meets all of her needs.

They only do placements for homes that don't accept Medicaid.

If you can sell your parents home and pay $30,000 - $75,000 a year for care, go for it. If you need help locating a facility and don't have the cash, too bad for you.

We are so thankful to have found this website and service. It really was helpful, and the answer so many questions. I had one week to make a hard decision on where to place my mom for memory care. I Live out of state and needed to fly in and make my punches count. Having "A Place For Mom" And my representative, help me organize, research, and understand more what I needed to do when I got to my parents city. Couldn't have done it without them. Found a place that my parents love. Fits their requirements, and is closer to some of my other relatives. Thank you so much I really appreciate it:-)

I don't know what to do to get them to stop. I told them I can only work with them by email, I have gotten 10 calls in 2 days form different names. At this point I will never use them. I don't blame the callers, they are doing what the company tells them--read up they are now owned by investment group for-profit. No thank you.

My mother in law had a sudden illness that left her unable to take care of herself long before we expected it to happen. A Place for Mom was there for us, narrowing our options to a workable number, and advising us about how to interview a site and make an informed decision. They also provided an app that helped us compile the information so it was easier to make a decision.

My Review
July 10, 2019

We were sent to three places. As we were in a hurry we took the best of the three. All three were not up to my standards, but we were desperate. It turned out to be a disaster. Below par care, terrible food, unsanitary, mold in the bathroom, no air conditioning and 4 days above 90 degrees. I had to stay with my mother and put wet cloths on her and bring a fan from home. I found a much better place on my own and moved her after three weeks. In looking at other places I realized that A Place for Mom only refers inferior, substandard homes.

We were given numerous options and the one we decided on for our BIL, is working out well. Every place given to us, contacted us quickly and answered any questions that we had. Everyone has been kind and helpful without being pushy. I would recommend this service to anyone looking for accommodations for a loved one.

When my contact person from A Place for Mom called me, she listened to me try to explain through tears why I needed to find a place to care for my mom. She was so patient, caring while explaining to me my options. I felt like I was speaking to someone who knew me and wanted what was best for my mom. After a week, she called to check on my progress. When I told her I put it off, she offered to come with me, to ask questions, to help me make a decision. She called again two weeks later.
I had found a place and was in the process of moving my mom in. I am so grateful I called.

I was at a loss to find an appropriate home for my father. He has special circumstances and the only places available at first were triple our budget. A Place for Mom found us the perfect placement for him and I'm so relieved I contacted them. I doubt I would have found the home on my own, and I'm really busy with work. To have someone qualified do the work for me was invaluable.

My experience with a place for mom was horrible. They allow anyone to seek a referral for your family member without your permission. I never asked for it. They have no due diligence procedure to guard against this. Truthfully I don't think they care. Just want their referral fees at the expense of the family who may not even know they are referring your family member. Whats to stop them from being unethical in other areas?
My advise. Don't use them. Find another...

They show and promise they will help u find a Senior Living place for your loved one. THAT IS A LIE! They ONLY HELP people who have CASH or PRIVATE INSURANCE NOT MEDICARE, NOT MEDICAID, NOT MEDI CAL. THEY WERE RUDE, LAUGHED AS THEY DEGRADED MY ILL SENIOR MOTHER FOR NOT HAVING BETTER INSURANCE. They r suppose to be kind, helpful NOT THEY ARE IN IT TO MAKE CASH OFF OF SENIORS! ITS A DISGRACE!

Hi Kimberly - We are sorry to hear about your experience. We share a common vision with our customers: we all want what’s best for seniors and we help families with one of the most difficult decisions they will ever have to make - the process of helping an aging parent make the transition from living independently or with family to accepting outside assistance or moving to a senior living community. A Place for Mom is paid by our participating providers and communities, which enables us to offer families a cost-free service with no hidden fees. Federal law prevents us from referring families directly to senior housing communities if the family desires to use public funds like Medicaid for housing costs. We have compiled tools to assist families with conducting their own independent search for their public funding needs. There are government resources available to help with the search for options. A few are listed here: Administration on Aging (www.aoa.gov): The “Elders and Families” section of the AoA is particularly useful for accessing links to information regarding state and local services for older adults and their families; public and private benefits programs; Medicare; and long-term care planning; Eldercare.gov (www.eldercare.gov): This helpful website offers fact sheets, booklets and links to federal websites; U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (www.hud.gov/): Here you can find information on affordable housing for seniors and rental assistance; The National Council on Aging (www.ncoa.org): Provides a list of federal and state assistance programs; Department of Veterans Affairs (www.va.gov): Veteran’s benefits provide those who have served their country (some benefits extend to their spouses as well) financial assistance during their retirement years; Disability.gov (www.disabilityinfo.gov): A comprehensive guide on disability programs and services, including Social Security benefits and affordable, accessible housing. We hope this helps!
