I find books, that are normally not sold to me through the US here. I have to purchase certain espionage books from the UK, EU (Germany), Russia, Ukraine, India, Pakistan. Often these are books containing cases that directly have affected me -- not necessarily negatively.

In this particular case, I'd found out about "Baseball in the Garden of Eden" from a short article in the "Prologue" section of a recent issue of Smithsonian. I found no local B&N had it in stock, and that to obtain a presentable copy in time for Father's Day, Alibris would be both cost-effective and socially responsible.
In general, whether it's a book, or a CD, or a DVD, and it's not current enough to be found locally, Alibris is my go-to source, both because of the prices and because of what I understand to be its business model and organizational structure. And I've never been disappointed with an Alibris purchase: descriptions of condition are truthful, in my experience, even tending to err on the side of under-promising and over-delivering.
This is my favorite bookstore. I always check here before purchasing anywhere else.
