To Whoever created ALKES,

You are the equivalent to Hitler and Kim Jon Un. Not a single soul who uses the program likes you. What you have created is an enormous killing machine.

I hope you lose sleep for a solid 6 months.

I have had to use ALEKS for both math and chemistry classes to do homework. The way it works is you are given a number of "topics" to complete. To complete these topics you need to answer a certain number of questions. There are 5 bars that fill as you answer questions. On your first right answer it fills one bar. If you answer a second question correctly it will fill 2 more in, totaling 3. If you answer a third question correctly it will fill the rest of the bars and you can progress. The issue is when you get a question wrong. If you answer a question incorrectly it punishes you by taking away one of the bars and ending your streak, meaning you now have to answer at least another 2 questions before you can move on to the next topic. I can not put in to words how infuriating and discouraging it is when your answer is technically correct but you forgot to put a decimal point on the end so now it's considered wrong because it's not enough significant figures. So now I need to do 2 more questions to progress, but I better not be off by a fraction of a percentage or else I'll need to do another question or 2. This system of punishment is not conducive to learning at all.

This company praise on students failure in effort to produce sales and profit. The explanations are not helpful, especially when every question is has extra tricks. Maybe if there were video explanations, students would do well on these courses.

ALEKS IS HORRIBLE
July 30, 2021

Have to do ALEKS for my college math class. It is EXTREMELY frustrating. The software teaches NOTHING then expects you just to magically understand the problem, so you can pass. Wouldn't recommend to my worst enemy. It wastes a lot of your time, and if you pay, your money too.

Seriously, It shows you absolutely nothing, the "explanation" when you miss something isn't even an explanation, it skips a ton of steps in explaining things to a point where it's not understandable and then it just gives you the exact same question format again. For you to fail. Again.

I had only heard good things about ALEKS from different people, but I couldn't retain any of the information given in the textbook that my class uses OR the homework (both on ALEKS)

I was genuinely starting to get concerned about my own cognitive function because of how freaking TERRIBLE this course is.

Just use khan academy. God knows that's what I'm using instead of that useless textbook that I paid for for some reason.

Aleks does not teach you anything only tests you on the things you already learned in the subject and it's a waste of time students cannot do more than 7 to 8 topics a day without falling behind and if you get a question wrong you fall behind as well plus the knowledge check questions are different from what you learned so you fail and you fall behind this is not worth it for any student I recommend edgenuity better than this schools if someone is reading this do not do this program ever.

So if I get a bunch of questions right, and then just one wrong, I end up losing progress and it takes twice as long to finish. Which isn't fair, sometimes it is just a typo or something. But, if I just click the idk button, I don't lose any progress. Basically, if you try and get it wrong, you get penalized. But, if you don't try, your good. That doesn't follow any logic of teaching at all. Also, they suck.

It just discourages our children from learning and advancing. It should be taken out of schools and colleges. I would like to know how many people had to drop classes, because of this software and not ruin their GPA. Is there a civil lawsuit for people to get their money back?

If you get a problem wrong, It removes the previous progress and can make you REDO lessons that you have already done. So throw out any time "prediction" for how long you think it is going to take. The most useless and infuriating feature of this is the "knowledge check" that it forces you to do, and if you blow it. BOOM, 5 lessons come right back that you have previously done, It is a completely abusive system, you should NEVER be able to REMOVE/UNDO progress that a student has already done. Another thing to mention is most quizzes are only 5 questions, the problem is that if you get a problem wrong it deletes the progress from the previous problem, THAT YOU GOT RIGHT, So you could easily be answering 20 plus questions on a quiz that is only meant to be 5 questions, im not joking. Absolute abuse NEVER have any student try this if they value hours of pointless lost time from ALEKS undoing your progress.

To teachers: DON'T USE THIS SITE! PLEASE! There are so many things wrong with this senseless garbage, I don't even know where to start! I'd rather be exiled from from my home state with objects thrown at me! This site is the EPITOME of what can be considered abuse, because it IS abuse. ALEKS qualifies IXL to be an angel sent from the golden gates of Heaven. Whoever spends, or um, WASTES money that could be used to feed hungry children in Bangladesh, on petty bull crap like this, Jesus Christ. #ALEKSisoverparty

Okay where do I start? This site is supposed to teach people things but I feel like I have lost brain cells from it words can't even describe how $h! T this site is. The creators should've been bullied more as a kid let alone get bullied more as adults. I hope one day this site gets taken down or gets hacked and the hacker takes it down

If any hackers are out there PLEASE hack this website and add some inappropriate stuff to it to get it blocked by school laptops so we never have to use this site again

I was reading the reviews and I have NEVER seen a forum so united. Usually there are 20% of people who disagree with main stream, be it a COVID-19 vaccine or the shape of our Earth but it looks that everyone agrees on one thing; 'ALEKS SUCKS'... It is so bad that has even united both political parties against one common enemy, ALEKS. Maybe we can unit behind this cause and achieve the world peace or at least a national unity? This tool has caused so much suffering that must be banned.

God is dead.
June 14, 2021

This program is an absolute piece of garbage.
World peace will be achieved before anyone learns something from ALEKS. The existence of this program confirms that God is indeed Dead. I would rather fight omni-man and Jesus at the same time than spend another MILLISECOND doing ALEKS. If I showed the founding fathers this piece of trash, they would unfound America and commit suicide. If zombies existed, they would regain humanity if we showed them ALEKS. It stirs an animalistic rage that makes you want to jump out your window, find each and every founder of this god awful program and murder them one by one. You start to do it, but instead you force them to finish… every… single… topic to make them realize what god awful human beings they are. I 100% certifiably guarantee that Hitler and Stalin have caused less death and destruction than this glorified pile of ants.

Now if you think thats bad. We did this every year since the 6th Grade.

When I die, I will personally fight Jesus and God and make them realize that they have abandoned all since if the word Justice by letting this monstrosity go free.

TLDR: ALEKS REALLY REALLY SUCKS

Do not use, the explanations are crap, the videos make no sence, there are to many knowledge checks.
The questions are worded weirdly and make no sence. In the picture I show an explanation I know how to do it but if you don't, this explantion will make no sence, the steps they show are completely useless

Undergrad Chem student here. ALEKS could be great, but there are several things that make it miserable:

1. If your answer isn't EXACTLY correct with the correct amount of significant digits, you're marked wrong. Some of the problems require 10+ different steps to go through - imagine spending 15 minutes working through a massive problem, and then being marked wrong for putting down 16.6 instead of 17.

2. You need to get 2-3 questions correct in a row to complete a topic. If you are one question away from completion and get the next question wrong, you are moved backwards and now have to get 2 in a row correct. If you miss the next one, you are now back to square one and need 3 in a row. What this means is that it is very, very possible for you to be stuck in an endless loop of getting a correct answer, and then getting a wrong answer and being pushed backwards. Which is made even worse by my 3rd point...

3. Most of the time, the "explanations" ALEKS gives are incredibly confusing and complicated. If you can't find someone on youtube who explains a particular topic, you're gonna have a bad time.

Finally, let's imagine a scenario involving everything listed above. You're trapped in an endless cycle of spending HOURS performing calculations, getting a question right, then getting the next one wrong, etc. You spend 20 minutes trying to barely understand the explanation... finally, when you're absolutely exhausted working the same types of incredibly tedious problems, you have one left... you spend another 15 minutes calculating everything, you press "check" and... NOPE. You put down 173.84 instead of 173.8. You're stuck in the cycle.

This leaves people discouraged, unmotivated, and exhausted, while learning very little. It needs to be less punishing, more motivating, and less confusing in its explanations. Without these changes, it will continue to be a painful, disheartening experience for students.
