This goddamn program forces you to take an additional 1-2 questions every time you get one wrong. If you constantly make errors, or make a microscopic mistake, ALEKS gives you the stupid "Try Again" message, leaving you in an endless loop of existential dread, unfiltered anger, hardcore depression, and sheer hopelessness. I've met people who have genuinely considered hanging themselves because of ALEKS' absolutely sadistic system. This site is essentially like a slaughterhouse for students' ambitions and patience. To the teachers: if you consider using this program and still knowing it's utter garbage, every student of yours is well within their moral obligation to beat the living $#*! out of you.
Dont $#*!ing do it its that simple me and my friend hate this site it cases depression and self harm
ALEKS is such a great app. The graphing a shape with a protracter part of it is just magnificent when you try for like 30 minutes trying to figure out how to use it and then it kicks you out of it telling you to do another topic then next week you forget all your progress and you want to die in a hole and kill yourself and this repeats for weeks until you figure out how to do it. And don't even get me started with the ones that require 5 answers for a single topic, they're just WONDERFUL! Oh my god, the knowledge checks are just great. I mean like, you do 20 questions then your teacher counts the check as 5 topics and it takes you at least an hour to do. I wish my teacher would give me 100 topics per week instead of just 10. This app is just the love of my life.
Aleks is very time consuming just as a homework assignment. It takes away time from other classes and is very stressful. It does not give thorough explanations and videos. Aleks negatively affects overall grades and if teachers and Aleks want students to succeed in their math class, Aleks is not an effective way to practice math. Aleks will take me longer than two hours to complete with little to no progress in that time frame. It brings great frustration and anger when you get one answer right and when the next one is wrong it takes away all the progress of the previous problem and the explanations do not help in any way and there are many other students who I know can attest to this. Though I know I may not be the best at math this should not take up more than two hours of my study and homework time. In addition to the time consumption, it locks certain topics that cannot be completed until the other ones are completed but when those previous topics take longer than expected it won't even let you move on to another topic and if it allowed students to move on to another topic, it would save much more time. Aleks does not consider students' workload for other classes and does not provide any room for growth. I suggest Aleks should not take the student's progress when they get a question right because some problems take longer than others and when the next problem is wrong it just took away the time and progress of the previous problem that you got right. This is part of the problem why the education system in America is flawed. The education system in America does not consider the mental health of students and does not consider the work and time students put into their education. To whoever created Aleks, I hope you rot in hell you coward son of a b#$%@.
Sorry if this is a bit long and the 5 star review, I wanted to make sure fellow teachers saw. The fact of the matter is this, you cannot learn math if you never do exercises without failing. I understand a bad grade for failing and not trying but ALEKS punishes you FOR TRYING. The system will lower you progress if you get an exercise wrong. Punishing for trying and not getting things on the first try. It pushes my students to just use calculators because at least you'll get a better grade. While I cannot for the life of me figure out why it causes my students so much distress, it does. I've seen a student breakdown on a zoom call because of it (this was not my first student breakdown but this was very much unexpected). He's not too good at math but thats the student I expected ALEKS to help the most, instead he completely disengaged and gave up on trying. At first you think you have the whole thing under control and it even freed up some time! I would tell the students to do an ALEKS activity and the grading would roll in. Multiple students works did not get registered in the system and it had many bugs. But testing season comes and the topics I had trusted ALEKS with were what my students struggled with the most.
In this time of online teaching and learning as a teacher ALEKS is very appealing but it did not do what I had hoped. It's very tempting to use its pre-prepared topics but I urge you to use something more hands on. Even just having students write down exercises you did yourself and solve them helps so much. In my 5 years of teaching teenagers (known for being anxious) I have never seen so many students been so emotionally distraught over a "Try Again". No system is perfect but this is not anything close to the needed. This is only my experience with math and can't speak for other topics. I hope this helps!
Bad website because bad website because bad website because bad website bad website because bad website because bad website because bad website bad website because bad website because bad website because bad website bad website because bad website because bad website because bad website. Honetly not wworth the efffort, as a wisse man oonce sadd. Alexks can ks
Horrible interface. Absolutely no redeeming qualities. Using this website as a college student is one of the most frustrating experiences I've ever had in all my years of education. When you submit an answer, it doesn't provide you with your answer if you get it wrong, so you can't even tell what you really did wrong without attempting it more, and if you get more wrong in a row, it forces you to work on something else. It's a terrible website all around. Would give it zero stars if I could.
I was in a coma in the hospital i wanted to thank aleks because it made me stand up, and close that $#*!ty website, much love bro. Hope ur site dies stop working <3
I just spent 2 hours doing aleks topics for school (cuz was what psycho would do it for fun). I have to do 15 topics per week. I was doing fractions and it told me to simplify it as a mixed number. I did and it told me that that was wrong, because the correct answer was 31/20. I was like WTF. The lesson is that aleks has inconsistent and glitchy software, it teaches you nothing, and it is a waste of time. Boycott it with me! Its 20% of my grade so my math grade is about to go way down but aleks is so bad that idc.
Aleks. Great site, right? Wrong. Every math site is destined to have at least a few bad reviews from people that just don't like doing it. But Aleks. Oh boy, Aleks. Close your eyes and recollect all the pain you've suffered from your life and then try out Aleks. By the end of the day when you've finally finished your grueling assignment, you'll be numb as a boulder and will require therapy to feel again.
Aleks is what teachers give students when they're too lazy to actually teach the students that material, and are perhaps feeling a bit resentful to the class. Anyone who says they like this website are either teachers, or have been numbed down by the site to the point where they can't tell their left and right. Completing topics are extremely difficult as a lot of the material is unfamiliar to the student, and the "explanation" given is terrible and only shows how to somehow come up with an answer.
Teachers: if you (for some reason) wish to assign work from this website, ASSIGN TOPICS. DO NOT ASSIGN PI GOAL PERCENTAGE.
Aleks can quite possibly be used as a torture method. If you do not complete the boatload of work given to you, you will receive bad grades -- causing you to miss out on going to college -- causing your life to be ruined and forcing you to work as the "garbage man" for a local restaurant for 28 miserable years until you die of malnutrition.
Students hate it with all their hearts. Go to a local high school and ask students their opinions of Aleks. 99% percent of the students will say they hate it (a few may burst in tears for you even bringing up the awful website) and the 1% who don't probably didn't say anything at all and just ignored you (numb brain -- too much Aleks).
If you enjoy ruining the lives of children and making them cry... -- go ahead and use Aleks.
I hate this its horrible a curse and i almost got held back by this crap
id rather have a tutor then this please delete this its pain. Please nobody likes this
Yes the program can be a bit glitchy but this math program is FAR superior to any others we have tried. My 11 year old actually looks forward to math - well nearly, instead of complaining. It's great how it adapts to where your kid is at instead of just making them redo everything
Alexs is an horrable website that trumatuzes little kids into doing math work. For example myself was correct but the alex bot said i was wrong which made me cry I HATE ALEXS AND ITS RUDE BOTS THAT DONT KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT MATH
Your children or students will hate it more that anything. From my experience anything else would be better.
First of all the problems are so hard and don't give a good explanation which makes you mad and when you think its right its not and we are forced to do it and it should me token in down if i could rate a minus 100 review i would not buy it if i were you its stupid that this should even cost money i think you should delete it now
This is a sh*t website. It's a waste of time and took me and my classmates forever to understand.
I hate it and even my classmate's hate it. So please change your bullsh#t.
When doing the ALEKS topics you only can do them a couple of times before finishing and moving on. Personally that's not enough time to actually learn a solid topic. But if you get them wrong to many times it logged you out of the topic and you have to move on to something else. How the f*ck am i supoosed to learn if it makes me do something different. What type of bullsh*t is this. ALEKS needs to f*cking fix their sh*t now.
Aleks is by far the worst ever math learning site I have ever used. I used it in a 7th Grade class for an entire year, and did not learn anything whatsoever. It didn't teach me, well to be honest, the school didn't even have qualified teachers. So I didn't expect much. Overall an absolute dog $(*5 program to learn math from. If you need help with math just go to Khan Academy, it's free and it helps..
I love this site dearly, it means the world to me. Without this i may have never made it to college and passed my classes! I highly recommend this site. 10 out of 10 love this program!
This is a stupid and neanderthal worthy site that should not exist in the modern age it should be a learning program for rocks.
Answer: Because the ALEKS program is literal hell and we people are just showing our hatred for it
Answer: Most likely.
Answer: Yes deal with it
Answer: Because people want to commit suicide in an original way, and ALEKS is the best way.
Answer: I don't think so but believe me a class action suit would be an improvement
Answer: I paid over $150 for this sumbi**h, I expect it to work
Answer: No i do not think the website owner has issued one but I think the feelings for aleks would be "down the toilet"
Answer: I realize this reply is very late but in case for anyone who needs it: -Let's say you're learning how to use long division. They have 3 questions in it. You master the first one, then go on to the next one. You get the second one wrong, guess what? They punish you and take back your first answer so now you have to answer it again. -How fun! And don't forget the useless knowledge checks!
